Mimicking Smugmug features in iWeb

I'm trying to add the ability to upload pictures to my website by dragging them onto an icon on my webpage like smugmug does. Is there any way to do this? My website is hosted by godaddy.com and I upload it using Yummy FTP.

I don't see any way to do what you are talking about. You can't change anything on an iWeb site except by running iWeb on your Mac, modifying or adding a page, republishing, and reuploading.
If you have a MobileMe Gallery, you can set it to permit people to contribute photos via email or a web browser.

  • Cool features in iWeb NO LONGER work in IE8 - PLEASE ADVISE!

    There are so many things broken in IE8 now with my iWeb sites I hardly know where to begin...and I am totally freaked out about this error below. It occurs whenever one trys a photo or blog page on the mobileme servers, and then tries to see it using IE8. FF works fine. My clients are freakin, and I could have sworn this used to work...so either MS or Apple changed something in an update:(?

    Uh, not helpful, but I agree with u on getting professional help. Look, are you saying that features that iWeb crams onto a webpage and can't be displayed by IE, which has a major percentage of browser marketshare, is OK with u ?!?
    Other items not working: png transparency, a well known problem. Picture frames, probably related to previous. COuntdown widget is also throwing an error and not displaying...the list goes on...
    But perhaps there is just a problem with the script:

    It's not the hosting server, as I tried putting this iweb site on a "normal" web server, and I get the same error. So now what?
    thx!

    If I got hold of the software seperately/ independently that would enable me to have this as a feature of my future website (using iWeb)

    It's up to Apple, but I doubt it. Apple probably don't want to pay licensing to Adobe for that.
    Would I be able to include it?
    Everything is possible, the only limitation is imagination.

  • MobileMe Gallery features in iweb?

    I have started to create a Family website using iWeb and want to be able to allow family members to upload and download pictures to their own albums on the site.  It looks like a MobileMe Gallery would provide that type of functionality, but I do not have a MobileMe account and can no longer sign up for one.  Is their anything in iWeb or iCloud that would provide this same type of functionality?

    iWeb just made the layout and appears to not be expected to continue developement.
    MobileMe Gallery does not currently appear to have an equal in iCloud.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/06/12/steve-jobs-confirms-discontinuation-of-iweb- in-icloud-transition/
    Remember we are in the digital age where things constantly change. iPhoto support sharing to Facebook and Flickr directly. If I were to hazzard a guess not many people, as an average, were publishing to MobileMe, opting for the other mentioned solutions. You and I might be part of a minority that did. It is possible that a similar feature will appear down the road, but for now... don't count on it.

  • Using QuickTime Player's 'Save for Web' feature in iWeb

    I'm using iWeb (3.0.3) to create a site. I've also used the QuickTime Player (10) feature "Save for Web" command to save optimized versions (for iPhone and desktop) of a clip I'm using in my site. I want to keep the nice features of the QT Save for Web, i.e., the poster frame and the nicer QT controller.
    I've managed to get everything hooked up right (using an HTML snippet in iWeb and hand-editing the page's html file to add the lines to <head> that the Save for Web's instructions specify. Yay!
    All good so far. When I view the page in Safari, the poster frame shows up perfectly. But when I click on it, Safari swaps in a new page (frameset?), which loses all the navigational stuff I have on the "real" page. The Save for Web's instruction html page doesn't do this -- why is it happening in the iWeb page? I've tried stripping stuff out of the iWeb-generated page, but no luck.
    Please help ... I've spent HOURS trying to figure this out, and I'm at my wit's end!!
    (Additionally, if someone can tell me where I can put the 4 files that the Save for Web command creates so that iWeb doesn't wipe them everytime I publish, I would be a very happy man!!

    This demo page has instructions on how to use that feature: #18 - Adding Movie/Video File to iWeb Page via Export for Web in Quicktime Player.

  • Using Quicktime's "Export for Web" feature in iWeb?

    Greetings,
    Does anyone know if this is possible within iWeb, that is, to use movies created using Quicktime's "Export to Web" feature, which really seems to deliver superior movie quality?
    Much appreciated,
    DaveB

    Thanks, good stuff, though I'm still having a small problem with this. I'm getting a gray line around the top and left of my movie and the right side of the player is getting cut off. When I try to make the width larger, it just moves the gray line further to the left.
    Any ideas?

  • Can changes be made to the Slideshow feature in iWeb?

    Dear Forum,
    Regarding the iWeb slide show feature.
    (1)How can I have iWeb open this slideshow in the centre of the screen as opposed to the top left?
    (2) How can I turn off the reflection?
    (3) How can I change the existing black background colour to white?
    Thanks for any advice
    Cheers,

    You can do a lot of customizing but you must know a little about html code.
    Some of the files are served from Apple (not inside your iDisk) so you would have to copy them and edit the html code to point to your edited version.
    http://www.mac.com/1/slideshow/scripts/launcher.js
    Holds the code your the display of the slide show. You can edit this file with any plain text editor.
    Not for the faint of heart and republishing or updating your iWeb pages may revert to the older files.

  • Comments feature for iweb

    I have created a website using iweb and it includes a blog page that I share with many of my friends. I was wondering if any one knows if there is a way or feature I can add to allow people to leave comments about my blog postings. Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions.
    If you publish your iWeb site to MobileMe, via iWeb's Inspector "Blog & Podcast" panel you can set up your blog page to allow comments.
    If you don't publish your iWeb site to MobileMe, iWeb's commenting feature is unavailable. Some people have managed to link their iWeb site to an independent commenting system, but with iWeb's blog being generally unreliable, I wouldn't recommend trying to do that.
    Instead, I would suggest you consider blogging using another system such as this:
    http://www.posterous.com/faq
    ...You can hyperlink to your Posterous blog from your iWeb site and Posterous allows creating a blog entry via email as well as its web interface. Plus there's the usual commenting capability and comment alerts for the account holder.

  • Does Mobile Me shut down features in iWeb 08 after it expires?

    My problem, iWeb publishes a ? mark where the video should be.
    Hi everybody. Since I quit Mobile Me ( i just had enough of the speed complaints), all my icons for each page inside iWeb are red, regardless if they were worked on or not. Also, i just tried to add a new video and when published to my ftp site, I get a Quicktime symbol with a ? mark inside of it when viewed on the net. Is the software preventing me from publishing video, or am I doing something wrong with how I compress video? I have uploaded video to this site before. Here is the link http://www.barehoof.com/Movement_Study.html Also, on i am not able to see the name of this same page on my home page and it is ticked to do so. I have to admit, I love the easy of iWeb but i am spending to much time on trying to get it to work right. Manually ftp'ing to another site, one changed file at a time is a pain. I am hoping I am showing my ignorance in how to use ftp and iWeb properly and sure could use some advice as apple care does not help in this case either.
    Happy New Year,

    iWeb only allows QuickTime file formats be used and writes page code (and folder structure) when you "Publish" to a folder. The QuickTime page elements are written to special javascript files and stored inside the Media folder.
    When I looked for your source file (based on your page code and javascript) I got a "not found" error message. Other files from your Site are found and work as intended:
    http://www.barehoof.com/Media/Lucas%20Clip.mov
    You should be aware that spaces and punctuation should not be used for Web based files. And, since all of the files are stored in the same "Media" folder, a duplicated name (two files with the same name) would upload only the newest file (erasing the first).
    Check your server and the Media folder. The file named in your linked page is:
    Movement%20Study%202.mov (which translates to Movement Study 2.mov). The %20 is Web code for the spaces in the file names.

  • The cool little features in iWeb templates

    Hi all,
    I was just wondering how to get the cool little add-ons that the iWeb templates have on my site?
    For example, iWeb has scissors on one of the sites. Their are also others like.. doodles, post its, "hello, my name is" I know I can simply cut and paste, but I'm looking for additional add ons. is there a stock pile of these somewhere on the web or maybe on my mac?

    You can add scrolling banner text, blinking text, mouse rollover, Fancy Zoom, Show and Hide text and many other enhancements.

  • Most needed new features in iWeb

    I have been using iWeb since the beginning of it and I really didn't know a whole lot about SEO back then, etc...But now I do...I also use Rapidweaver and Wordpress.
    Knowing that, going back to iWeb, it can still make some very original and nice looking sites if you start from a blank page, one can basically do what you want. It does its own graphic design, very easy drag and drop.
    However since people LOVE blogs and make them alot, Rapidweaver and Wordpress are much better for search engines and SEO. Even sites like Blogger and Posterous are better blogging platforms than iWeb...that being said, iWeb blogs can be very nice looking. But are almost invisable to be indexed.
    Heres why...first, the main blog page in iWeb (the summary part) is in javascript _*without .xml text*_.
    This results in a search engine not seeing the actual blog entrees and therefore cannot follow the link.
    The actual page where the post is written is still in java but the text is in .xml, which is readable to search engines. One has to a massive work around to get this done for indexing.
    There are no categories, no tags, _no readable archives._ It is java also. What is readable by search engines is your RSS feed. Thats good.
    Back to my title of the topic, what is needed in iWeb for its blog is catagories, tags, indexing archive links.
    What is also needed is to re-do the html snippets to *not be an iframe*. Its not really a huge deal but has an interesting effect when building sites....I have two examples here for you.
    First I built a little search engine in iWeb and also added it to a test site in Rapidweaver for the same search which Rapiweaver site is published on Mobileme.
    When I add the code in iWeb I have to make the snippet window huge in order for the search to work on a published site, or you will just see the search box.
    In Rapidweaver or Wordpress I add the code and thats it...when a search is typed in the box the results window automatically expand or the webpage itself expands to accompany the results. It is not an iframe like iWeb.
    Also needed in iWeb are an adjustment in its URL publishing without having to go to an alternative FTP client, which takes a bit of extra time, but works. But for some can be confusing as apposed to just clicking the publish button.
    I just love iWeb...but wish it would get its internet standards up...hope its not too late.

    Heres why...first, the main blog page in iWeb (the summary part) is in javascript *_without .xml text_*
    this is incorrect, iweb has blog-main.xml for blog summary page, ajax widget fetch data from the xml files and populate summary page.
    The actual page where the post is written is still in java but the text is in .xml
    this is incorrect, the text is on the entry page.
    Back to my title of the topic, what is needed in iWeb for its blog is catagories, tags, indexing archive links.
    that can be done, but you need to know iweb widgets, google 'iweb blog tag cloud' and look for my blog.
    as for indexing, submit a site map to search engines and include iweb blog's xml files and your blog will be indexed.
    What is also needed is to re-do the html snippets to not be an iframe
    that can be done too, here is my example:

  • "Submit a review" feature on iweb site?

    Is it possible to use a service to allow a "submit your review" type of service to iWeb? I'm interested in allowing others to utilize a review-based system to build a sort of online reputation...any ideas?

    That would be something like a form asking for comments with the entries added to the page. There are many ways to add a form to get information from visitors but I'm not familiar with any that will also display the feedback.
    What comes to mind is a blog page where visitors can add comments to a subject you post. Something like a blog topic Comments. In your site ask visitors to use that blog page to comment on the service the received from you.
    If you do that you might consider using an established blogging site rather than iWeb's blog capabilities. They would be much more robust. Also if you don't publish to MobileMe the blog comments capability for iWeb are disabled. You can embed that blog site into your iWeb created site like in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page. That way the visitors would not have to leave your site to add a comment.
    I'm sure there are other ways to do what you want and other users will surely pop in and offer other possibilities.

  • I found more features for iWeb

    Here's just some of the things I've been able to do thanks to many on this forum as well as a little research of my own. All of these features are available on my website, http://www.iWebTricks.com and I even show you how you can do it on your own iWebsite:
    -Changing the color of Hyperlinks
    -Creating a rollover text info box for Hyperlinks
    -Adding a Paypal button to your site
    -Making a new window pop-up when you click a link
    -Flawlessly updating your iWebsite to .mac
    -Adding a Guestbook and Vote page w/ e-mail feedback
    -Advanced stat counter
    -Changing the size of a Slideshow window
    There's more too!
    I pretty much made this website for people on this forum who, like me, have spent too much time looking for what it is they wanted to find so I've narrowed the tips down to the most useful ones and put them on a site. Hope you likey.

  • Is there a "search and replace" feature on IWeb?

    After building my entire site from scratch, I have learned many, many things that will help it load faster, etc.
    This will involve redesigning buttons, and taking some photos and manipulating them in Photoshop (rather than adding borders in IWeb, etc.), etc.
    As I have several pages that include the same items, is there a way that I can find all of the same pictures and replace them with my new edited version with a "search and replace" type of function? Or do I have to go to each page, and delete the old and add the new?
    Thanks for all the help -
    Kim

    As I have several pages that include the same items, is there a way that I can find all of the same pictures and replace them with my new edited version
    You'll have to copy an paste the new items in each page.
    I suppose you could name the new item the same as the old and replace it in the individual page folder. I think that would save you from having to edit any html pages. But if you're going to make other edits to the page which require you to open it in iWeb you might as well replace it that way. It will have to be the same pixel size as the previous file was.
    I did a file replacement for the last three tutorials button in my Old Toad's Tutorials site. Worked like a charm until I next publish.
    *HOWEVER, if you republish the site or page the files will be replaced with the originals. So unless you're not going to change it again you'll have to do the change in iWeb so they will remain changed.*
    Just changed that page from within iWeb so the demo of the process is not available any more.

  • IWeb • How Do I Make Links in an Embedded PDF Document Open in New Page?

    On this page http://ostyn-newman.com/Gov_Downloads.html I have a PDF document that is embedded.  I tried an IFrame, but everything seemed to work better for me with the "Embed" code.  I am open to changing this if it would be better.  Here's my problem.  I can get the PDF document to display fine, but when I click on the links in the PDF document, the destination page opens in the embedded window.  I want the links to open the destination in a new window.
    I created the part of the document with most of the links (Pages 8.5 - 56) in Numbers and cut and pasted the table into a Pages document to create the completed document on our site.  I exported the docuemnt from Pages as a PDF file which is what you see.  There is also a link to download the file on the same page which works just fine.
    I have tried to insert the target="_blank" code but have not been able to get it to open the destination pages in a new window.  I am inserting the code by using the Insert/Widget/HTML Snippet Feature in IWeb.  Here is the code I am using.
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" >
    </embed>
    I am not a coder and have just used Google to find the code to cut and paste and have played around with it to get to the place I am.  If anybody can tweak the code I have or offer some totally new code for me to insert that will get this to work would be greatly appreciated.
    Please keep in mind that most of the people who visit and use this page are government employees and are almost exclusivey using Explorer.

    Thank you Jeff,
    I tried your original suggestion and now my inserted html widget reads
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" target="_blank">
    </embed>
    It is live on my site.  You can see that the embedded document still opens the destination links in the embedded window.
    As for your other two suggestions, thank you as well.  I am aware of those techniques and did not use them because that is not how I want the other PDF links on the page to behave.  The catalog and autocad blocks downloads in the box at the top should simply download (or behave however the client's browser is configured to handle downloaded PDF documents or zip files.)  I don't intend to force those to open a new window.  I could also have our client click on a link to the PDF document and open it in a new page (like in your second suggestion) but I was hoping to embed the PDF and have it automatically viewable on our Download • Terms • Prices Page with all of the PDF search functions intact as well as the links be active.  My only complaint at this point is that the links in the embedded PDF document open the destination page in the embed window instead of a new window.  I only want to force a new window because the destination window doesn't behave properly when it opens in my embed window and it is difficult to figure out how to go back to the my PDF document when a destination window gets opened in the embed window.  The code you sent didn't do the trick.  Or maybe I didn't get it exactly right.  That is why I included it above.  Thanks for trying though.  I appreciate the effort.
    I would be willing to bypass the imbed/iFrame route altogether if I could just somehow drop the Pages document into the IWeb page and retain the search and link features, but I've not been able to figure out how to do that.  When I was exploring how to directly drop a Pages document into an IWeb page is when I stumbled on the method of embedding a PDF document into an IWeb page to retain the important search and link features.
