Mirror iMac onApple TV

I have downloaded the new Mountain Lion but I don't get the icon to mirror my iMac on my Appe TV Can anyone help as they are both on the same network.

The reason is a hardware requirement of newer Intel chips since 2011.
There is a software only 3rd party solution called AirParrot:

Some people say good things about it, others don't.

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • Mirroring Imac to TV

Does someone knows if I can fully mirror (like with a cable) my Imac to the TV wirelessly?
    Thanks.

I know of a device called McTiVia.  That was introduced more than a year ago.  By now there must be others on the market but I haven't done the research as yet but googling "wireless tv connections" looks interesting.
For more links on McTiVia specifically google "McTiVia".
    Update:
Rereading your post I am confused.  Do you want to connect wirelessly or do you want to wired connection to your TV?  I answered above for wireless solutions.  But for wired everything is much simpler.  If you have a mini-displayport then get a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter and connect a HDMI cable to the TV.
As for mirroring, you don't want to do that.  The screen size when mirroring monitors is the smallest of the mirrored set.

  • Mirroring imac on TV screen

Is it possible to mirror my imac screen on my TV screen. I have an apple TV and a first generation ipad

VLC can be used to play video back at full screen on a second monitor.
This thread recounts my experience with eyeTV, CyTV and VLC.
However if you play the movie files through VLC direct, you should be able to do what you want to.

  • Can't mirror imac to apple tv ( it stopped working)

I have been mirroring my Imac for at least 1 year and now i just have sound, no image and in the airplay icon i can't change the extended or mirror option.
    Any suggestions??
    Using 10.10.1 OS

The latest recommended fix is to turn off Bluetooth on AppleTV. I haven't tried it yet.

  • HT204291 cannot mirror imac, only extend, any advice please?

Imac, when trying to mirror the screen to my apple tv, it automatically reverts back to extended desktop immediately.

Use a supported Mac on a supported OS.
If the issue persists, post to the appropriate Mac forum.  The issue is not with the ATV.

  • Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.
AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)
But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?
In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.
Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

I agree, what is the point of making an operating system compatible with a particular computer and then arbitrarily disabling the most meaningful features. It seems like Apple is once again forcing us to wastefully update equipment through less than honest means. Any update they have should have a clear list of what will not be relevant to you with te equipment you are using. I would not have purchased Mountail Lion if I had been aware that AirPlay would not work. And before someone tells me that I just needed to check to look and it was clear. I went so far as to make sure my graphics card was compatible. Which is really the only thing I can see being a reasonable excuse for disabling a feature such as this.

  • Triple display. no mirroring. imac 3 monitors. possible?

I am wanting to add a third VGA display to a media-purpose imac at my business.
    —example:
    (external 1) (internal) (external 2)
i do not want to mirror the third display.
    1. is this possible?
    2. what is the best way to accomplish it (what adapters/devices do i need)?
I already have a miniDisplay to VGA for the current external display.
I have looked at VGA splitters, but they only seem to support mirroring (external 1) and (external 2).
    All help appreciated.

  • Yosemite AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working.

I've been using AirParrot to transfer movies on my older computer to my Apple TV.   My new iMac,  using Yosemite 10.10.3, has AirPlay. However, I can't turn "mirroring" on.  Why?   New Mac specifications: 21.5" iMac, Processor 2.9GHz,  Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB.

  • MacBook to Mirror iMac

I want to reset my MacBook back to original and then have it mirror my iMac. Is there an easy, step-by-step method for this?

You could clone your iMac using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a perfect copy of your iMac by connecting your MacBook (if you have a FireWire version of the MacBook) in Terminal Mode (restart your MacBook while holding down the "T" key on your MacBook) to your iMac. Your MacBook will show the FireWire symbol on its monitor, and the MacBook will show up on your iMac monitor as an external FireWire drive. Tell the cloning program to use your iMac as the Master (original / source ) drive, and the MacBook the destination drive. You might have to tweak the MacBook a tiny bit. But that is not hard at all.

  • How to mirror imac with 1st gen apple tv

I have a new iMac and a first generation Apple TV. Imac is upstairs and Apple TV is downstairs connected by ethernet. PLaying media through iTunes is fine but how can I mirror my iMac? For example, I want to be able to watch streamed video from the internet on the TV rather than the iMac.

Unfortunately, the Apple TV 1 doesn't support AirPlay.

  • How to mirror iMac screen wirelessly through a mac mini connected to an hdmi port of HD TV?

I have a new Mac Mini connected to a Sony HD TV. On the same network but in a different room I have my iMac. I can control the iMac with wireless mouse and keyboard from the same room where the TV and Mac Mini reside. I would like to work on my iMac but use the HD TV as my monitor so I can show slideshows and iMovie projects without transferring files to the MacMini first. Is it possible, and if so, how do I go about setting it up?

Your iMac likely supports a higher resolution than the TV does. The maximum standard TVs today use is 1920x1080, and if your iMac is an Intel Core i3 or i5, its own display is at least that high of a resolution. Which model of iMac do you have?
If your iMac is running at least Leopard (10.5), then both machines have Screen Sharing built in. It can be accessed from the Finder, but as often as you would like to use it you should go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices and drag it (the icon) to your Dock. That will create the shortcut to get to it easily. As I noted before, the built in Screen Sharing VNC software doesn't do full screen, but third party VNC software can. Both machines do not need to be using the thrid party VNC software, just the one viewing - in this case your Mac mini. Chicken of the VNC is a popular free one, fairly easy to use:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
For more info about how to set up Screen Sharing and how to use the included application:
    http://mac.appstorm.net/how-to/os-x/using-screen-sharing-in-os-x-leopard/
Note that you will have to use the settings in System Preferences, regardless of what VNC software you use. Both systems will need to have Screen Sharing settings enabled.

  • Monitor Mirroring - iMac 24 with damaged LCD screen

My iMac 24 LCD screen is damaged to the point where it is basically worthless. I have attached an external monitor via a VGA adaptor. Problem...since I cannot see the screen, I cannot get into system preferences to select "detect displays". Is there any way for the computer to detect the external monitor automatically? Or other suggestions. Thanks.

  • Mirror iMac via ethernet questions

I want to play iTunes [ very few iTunes store songs], and movie/tv shows, [none purchased from iTunes] I added the origin of media because I heard it made difference [?]
I have an ethernet connection availabe for the Apple TV.
    What problems can anyone forsee?
    Thanks.
    iMac i5 2010] Mavericks

..but if I want to use VLC I'll have a problem?
So I'll have to convert all files to a iTunes 'usable' codec, then add to iTunes.
ITunes won't allow me to add an .avi file [I was going to try the 'create a new version' thing. I couldn't drag to window or use 'Add to Library'. Is this because it's not in the correct format?
Is there a general consensus as to the best video file converter to use?

  • I am unable to mirror the screen from a Mid 2011 iMac using AirPlay?

All I get is a black screen.
    I am running OS10.10.
    EVERYTHING is up to date.
Both are on the same wifi network.
iTunes WILL play to the AppleTV 3d generation.
AppleTV is up to date also.
When i open the icon on the menu bar, I can see Mirror iMac and Extend Desktop.
Only Extend Desktop can be checked.
I have restarted the Netgear R7000 router (up to date), the AppleTV, and the iMac.
    No luck.
    Thanks in advance.

Is anyone having this problem?  iTunes will play from the iMac (10.10) to the Apple TV (7.0.1) video and audio no problem  iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 (8.1) also.  I can NOT select Mirror iMac at all.
