Mirroring MacBook Pro?

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to mirror a MacBook Pro to Apple TV in the same way an iPad or iPod does?
I was able to find and use, as a trial, an app called AirParrot but it costs $9.99. It really is a great idea but I can't help to wonder why Apple has not already integrated this concept. I have a presentation that looks so much better on a 53 inch display rather than my 13 inch MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately, only the newer models can support it.

Is there a way to mirror macbook pro to my Ipad while using keynote presentation

There are some apps that can do this, such as this one: http://www.avatron.com/applications/air-display/.
If your Mac doesn't support AirPlay, search for remote desktops for iPad on the App Store.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • Video lags like crazy when mirroring Macbook Pro to Apple TV

So, the Apple TV is wireless, and youtube works fine, as long as i use it within the Apple Tv. However, when I mirror my Macbook Pro to the Apple TV, and play a youtube video or any other video on my computer, it lags; it lags a LOT!!!
    How do I fix this?
I've heard about configuring the internet speeds from 5ghz to 2.4ghz. Will this work? and if so, HOW to I configure these settings on my Macbook or Apple TV?
Please help! I got the Apple TV because we got rid of Foxtel, and I've got some movies on my hard drive, and TV shows, and I'd like to watch them, but the lag makes the movies and tv shows unwatchable!!
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance

Switching between 2.4 & 5 GHz may bring mixed blessings. 5 GHz will likely avoid most interference but being a higher frequency is more easily blocked by walls and other objects 2.4 GHz is able to pass straight through. It therefore depends on your location which frequency would be best for you.
Switching would be carried out in your router settings (assuming it supports both frequencies).
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • HT201343 Cannot Mirror MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I own a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and a 3rd Generation Apple TV and both have the latest software updates. I can no longer see the AirPlay icon on my computer and I can no longer select that in the display options of settings. Any help on this one??

    Hello there, tpeeler88.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some basic steps for troubleshooting your issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
    Particularly of note:
Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears
Your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra will appear.
Make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed.
Make sure you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" checked.
There are also Additional Information links with additional troubleshooting recommendations.

  • Mirroring MacBook Pro onto AppleTV

All of my computers, peripherals, etc.. are all Mac and I just recently picked up AppleTV.
One of the functions that I have been really happy with is the option to be able to mirror my phone or pad onto my tv screen.
I have been reading though that some MacBook Pro's will mirror and some won't. How do I determine if mine won't?? Just the fact that the mirror option isn't in my display options?
I purchased the Macbook in June of 2011 so about a year and a half ago.
    15-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks

I echo your question(s) and concern(s) as I find that my mid 2010 macbook pro is not supported when it comes to airplay.  If you scroll right to the bottom of the Apple TV website you find the small print with regard to mirroring.  Unfortunatally I didn't read the small print until after I purchased Apple TV.  The website graphic of a MacBook misled me to believe my less than 2 year old purchase of a macbook would work.  So, the question in my mind that remains unanswerable by Apple Support... "why can a third party (AirParrot) get a mirroring function to work, but the geniuses at Apple development can't?".  Further, It strikes me odd that my system report even shows "Mirror" as OFF.  Almost like its a variable parameter that could be turned on if Apple wanted to turn it on. I did turn the mirror function on in my Display properties.  It struck me as odd that the property says "Show mirroring options in menu bar if available".  That was my first clue that I was in for trouble.  It's not often that one finds a property that is open ended like that.
Hummm... yet another newly released so called "feature" that is not backwards compatible.   Buyer beware.  I never thought I'd have to say that about Apple products.
AirPlay is available on all devices running iOS 4.3 or later. Some features require the latest software. Second-generation Apple TV or later required.
AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later; iPhone 4S; iPhone 5; iPod touch (5th generation); and iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer) and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer) with Mountain Lion.
Dual-screen capability is available with iPad 2 or later, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation).

  • Apple TV3 Mirroring - MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro that I just updated to OS X 10.8.5 and I want to mirror the screen to my TV using a recently purchased a black Apple TV unit. The problem is that the homeshare drop down menu at the top of my screen does not show up. I can play my iTunes music, TV shows, and Movies via Apple TV, but I can't mirror my computer screen to my TV. Advice?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring needs an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 As you have an older MacBook, you have to use an app like AirParrot or Beamer to mirror your MacBook Pro's display to the Apple TV

  • Can I mirror MacBook pro mid-10 to apple tv with something when internet in not available

I have a apple tv 3 and a MacBook pro mid -10. all I want to do is mirror to a projector, sometimes I don't have internet. I do have an airstash but the apple tv will not connect to the network, had the same problem with a wireless hot spot. What can I use to connect to the apple tv?

You are correct about mirroring upto a point.. (ref: my previous comment from the apple support engineer..  _ I will quote directly.  The Apple  operating system will support Airplay {iincluding mirroring} if it thinks the computer can perorm the task} where the software on the apple TV is version 5.x...
However I pointed out that you can still send movies..etc. to the appletv, again assuming your appletv software is 5.x..
I wish my apple tv did not upgrade.... lesson from this..  keep version 5.x on your apple TV. never upgrade.. too painfull.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25190502#25190502
Your post of a link is helpfull but for public consumption and an official statemnt from apple, not in reality for version 5.x on apple tv3.
but.. my comments for version 5.x will be mute if apple tv v 5.x is not used.
    Hope I helped somewhat.

  • Mirror macbook pro to LG smart tv

I tried to connect my macbook pro (year 2010 version) to an LG smart tv via an hdmi cable, but it doesn't detect anything. I made sure the hdmi cable works perfectly elsewhere as well as my macbook pro (ie. it connects well with my another TV using hdmi).
Does anyone know what to do? Or is connecting via an Apple TV the only solution to this? If so, if I can possibly upgrade my OS to mountain lion so that I can effect the AirPlay function? Some websites say it still won't work because the graphic sensivity is not the same.
Hope someone can help, much appreciated!!

  • Can i mirror macbook pro to Apple TV with lid shut?

I've just bought apple tv and would like to use on an external tv which has apple tv running, however it seems i can only show the display on both machines, i would like to just use the tv and close the lid on the macbook, without it sleeping!
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

    Hello 1moresolo,
One suggestion I would give you is to try pressing the key combination Control-Shift-Eject. This should turn off your MacBook Pro's display. Otherwise, try using the screen brightness keys to bring it all the way down.
On my MacBook Air, turning the brightness all the way down turns off the display.
    Best of luck!

  • HT1338 AirPlay mirroring 2012 MacBook pro

Trouble shooting AirPlay mirroring , MacBook pro AirPlay mirroring icon keeps disappearing and disconnection occurs on apple tv , need help ?

    Hi!
I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem.

  • No option for "Airplay" in "Display setting on MacBook Pro; Where else is this option?

Trying to mirror MacBook Pro to Apply TV. Under "Display" settings there is no option for "Airplay". Even after a software update, such option was not visible. Where else can I find an Airplay option on my Mac OS X version 10.7.5.
    - I set up Apply TV with my iPhone and I had no problems
    - I already turned on "Airplay" settings on Apple TV
    - However I am unable to find the "Airplay" option on my MacBook Pro
         - I opened up my "System Preferences"
         - Clicked on "Display"
              * On and Off "Airplay" option is nowhere to be found.

    Hey JenLeb16,
I am not sure what version of MacBook Pro you are running, but as long as you have a MacBook Pro that is an early 2011 as well as running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) then you should be able to do that. Take a look at the article below for more information.

My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. A while ago the computer fell down and hit the cable. How can I tell if the computer is working ok. Doesn't show mirroring any more. Was working while watching a movie but when I pulled it out from the computer and put it back in the system would no longer mirrorr the screen on the TV.

The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be for FREE!

  • How do I get mirroring enabled on my MacBook Pro - 10.7.5 OSX

I've a mid-2012 MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.5 and a new Apple TV.  All works except for mirroring on the Mac.  It works on my iPhone 4S, my iPad Mini, but when I try to hook up with the MacBook Pro, none of what is supposed to be there - icon in top menu bar and Apple TV in the System/Display tab.  I can play music etc so that part is connected. I've read through all the posts and answers which indicate this should work on this Mac but it simply doesn't show up. Any further ideas?

You need to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) to take advantage of AirPlay Mirroring
