Missing Live Trace on CS5 top bar

HELP: Does anyone know how to recover the Live Trace button as well as the entire option on a CS5 top bar and Objects menu? Mine has vanished, and while i am still able to find Live Trace under the OBJECT section, it won't allow me to use any of the options. I've tried restarting, I've checked if my images were locked, I've opened various files hoping the outcome would be different, but nothing worked. I've even tried going to Keyboard Shortcuts and keying in a new shortcut, but it won't allow me to as no box appears for me once clicked.
Would appreciate any suggestions to solutions!

If you mean uninstall and reinstall, you should run the Cleaner Tool in between (it still works for CS5).

Live Trace Raster Preview Btn doesn't work in Ai CS5

Hello,
I'm working with tracing graphics in Illustrator CS5 (I know, that's not the newest version of the software), I came across such a problem:
Live trace mode offers 2 preview buttons: vector (white pyramid button) and raster (black pyramid button), only vector preview button works properly - the raster button doesn't respond to clicking or even mouse hovering.

it does if you turn off the vector preview (i.e. set it to 'No Tracing Result'/the top option).
or do you mean you don't even get a drop down menu?
edit: I mean set the vector option to something that doesn't obscure the image (outlines etc)

I am using Illustrator CS5, how do I remove white outline after live trace?

I am working on a image that will be used as a sticker. I did all the painting in Photshop CS5. Now I want to create a cleaner image by making it a vector. My problem is when using Live Trace it comes out amazing. But this is in Illustrator. When i go and save it as a PDF or TIFF. It has a white line surrounding all the individual vectors.
how do i remove these?
I already did the Ignore White. I did not use the expand button, which is what the saved image looks like when i do press expand. Thats a No NO!
All my settings are at 300 res. I also rasterized the image too. it still came out the same way.
The image on the left i how it looks in illustrator. The left image is how it looks when it is opened as a jpeg or saved as a adobe PDF or Tiff.

These could be
gaps due to differences in adjacent fill areas
antialaising issues across adjacent items
general trapping issues
I'm afraid you'll have to do some reading up on all of that and invest some time in manuall cleaning up your documents to fix these problems. Though I honestly don't see the relevance. Your image being quite detailed eitehr way it would be printed using inkjet or classical CMYK processes and beyond the die line for the cutout there would be no need to use any vector data.

Can I import settings from CS5's Live Trace to CS6's Image Trace?

I'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?
If not, does anyone know how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?
Images, to help define the problem: This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.

I can't show the original as it is a HUGE file, 10000 pixels wide. I scan as high as my scanner will go. And that 10000 is shrunk down already so as not to exhaust my RAM. Below is a smaller version, but yes it is a b/w drawing but on a colour scan. It's been treated using Levels in Photoshop to remove the grey/blue colour of the paper, but nothing else.
I can see round the edges of the black in Photoshop that there are bits of colour, mainly reds/yellows. What do you think I need to do to it to help it trace better?
Actually, I'll throw in my Image Trace settings too, so people can see what settings I'm currenty trying... I got the Threshold directly from Comic Art in CS5.5.

The very top bar, with mini,mize and close is missing -how can I reveal it?

I seem to be missing a top bar, with minimize, Maximize, and close -and also am missing dropdowns for "Tools" and possibly others.

Resolved -I had "overlooked" that the Menu bar was not clicked. Mea culpa.

This could be a serious issue, I would contact Apple, if the following does not work.
You can try a SMC reset:
Power off, press left side shift,control,option.
Power up and hold the keys before the start up chime, hold them till the gear stops spinning.
As you do not say which os you are running, this can only be a guess.
If you provide more detailed info, you might get a better response.

"EDIT" tab option missing from the top bar

I have a weird thing happening: Several times a day the "EDIT" tab on the top bar of the main Final Cut page disappears. This is in the top bar that normally says, "FILE EDIT VIEW MARK MODIFY" etc.
When I close Final Cut and restart, the "EDIT" option appears again.
I'm using FC Studio 6.06 with OSX Leopard.
Anyone else have this problem. It just started about a week ago.

First thing to do...
Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

Illustrator CS5 Live Trace stuck at "Tracing"

I'm trying to "Live Trace" an image and AI says "Tracing" in the layers pane and just sits there forever. See image below:

What do you expect it to do? Have you tried using Expand from the object menu?

How to display Live Trace settings in CS3?

I'm on CS3 - I remember before having a horizontal bar across the top showing the tool properties, but I can't figure out how to show that. Particularly for Live Trace - I want to have access to the different tool options - how do I show this at the top or change the settings?

Working with overlapping paths created by Live Trace

Hi I am working with a live trace that has been expanded to create many paths. Some of them are compound paths, and the inner path of the compound path fits right on top of another path of the same dimensions and positioning, like a donut hole, and that inner path is filled with a different color. I want to manipulate the donut hole at the same time as the inner path of the compound path without having to select each path separately (and without having to think about making sure the path on top is is completely contained by the path underneath). Is there an easy way to select the corresponding components (anchor, segment, or even control handle) of both paths simultaneously, or at least quickly, without having to scroll through the layers panel to locate them? There are hundreds of paths so that is not practical..
For now I am selecting whatever is on top, moving it, then selecting the path that occupied the same space underneath the moved path before it was moved... it would be really cool if more than one object could be selected at the same time, or if there is some better way to do this..
Specifically, I have a 6 color leaf traced, but but since it wasn't complete due to some obstruction in the original photo, I am trying to recreate the obstructed portion. Since there are a few colors, Live Trace created several shapes (I have done what I could to minimize the number of anchors and paths using the trace options). I think at the moment that I am just stuck with some tedious work, but am asking just in case there is something I've missed TIA!

If the different-colored adjacent paths do, in fact, have perfectly aligned anchorPoints and handles you can:
1. Move an anchor of one path.
2. Select the corresponding anchor of the other path
3. Ctrl-D (Transform Again)
Or, you can use the Lasso to select the coincident anchors of both paths and move them at once.
Either way, you are probably in for some tedious work.
Since there are only six colors at work anyway, depending on the nature of the artwork, you could perhaps convert the results to a LivePaint group. Then, (again, depending on the specific artwork), when you move an anchorPoint on an edge between two adjacent different-colored regions, the fills on both sides of the altered edge update accordingly:

How to live trace since the latest download. I can't find it!

Ever since I did the update this week the live trace tool at the top is missing and I can't find it. Image trace doesn't work either.

Just let it download and then delete it afterwards! When its done touch it and hold down until it starts to shake and hit the x in the corner to delete it! Hope this helped!

How can I live trace a hand sketch line work and cut from background to apply to new coloured backgr

I placed a hand drawn scanned photo of artwork to illustrator cs4 in an attempt to trace the lines and remove from paper and add the line drawing to a brochure artwork. this to give illusion of an old artist's manuscript with drawings. first attempt with the psd file in trying to apply trace as a "hand drawn " method crashed illustrator. I tried again and used ink drawing which came out blotchy. Tried simple trace and got a warning that the file was too large. I'm thinking that the drawing itself is very soft and the paper around it is grainy and dim. I had tried to brighten and lighten in the scan mode.I did get it as far as a trace at one point and used outline stroke but then couln't fill in the lines or cut it out. I have taken it to photoshop and drew a pen selection around the soft lines and used a transparent background on it, hoping to stroke it in illustrator and drag it off over to the brochure template .But didn't try it yet. I also just made the resolution 250 and the size document to 6 x 9 in approx. But now am fearful of another experiemental attempt. Am I on the right track or is there another method to bringing in a line drawing that is not defined well and getting it to trace and remove from it's background to apply onto the illustrator document being worked on. I have done placing and tracing before but not a line work. Any suggestions that won't crash my program would be welcome. As an artist I will want to do this again and again so want to know the proper method or what I am missing. I've been using illustrator for 7 months now.

I have some suggestion one leave it as is and use a blending mode of multiply to give it a color background like this
leave it as is make it a grayscale tiff import int Illustrator and color it it in Illustrator like this
Or trace over it with the brush tool aand then give it a color ground.
Or do the original over and do a cleaner job with no tone or a minimum of tone. Then Live trace.

How to Remove maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view [MAC]?

Hi.
My Q. is pretty much as the title implies.
It's a small thing, and maybe kind of trivial,
but I'd like to know how to get rid of the maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view in Adobe Reader on the Mac.
I am definitely in fullscreen view [I hit command+L], just so you know,
but I still have that top grey bar showing with the maximize/minimize/close buttons [the red, yellow, and green].
As I said, kind of a trivial concern, but I'd like to know how to hide that in full-screen mode.
I tried searching around a few places for an answer, but there is nothing too obvious.
I can't find anything in the full-screen preferences of reader either. Maybe I'm missing something...

I think this is an application-specific problem too, because I don't encounter this in full-screen mode with other applications.

I've lost the top bar - how do i get it back?

the top bar in my itunes is gone. it had the play/pause button, the forward and back buttons, and the progress bar. that entire bar is nowhere to be found. i've tried everything i can think of and can't get it back. does anyone know how to make it re-appear? FWIW, if you click windows then zoom, that little mini-player is the stuff that's missing. thanks

* Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
* Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

A problem about Live trace

Hello, I use Adobe illustrator CS4 in MAC, I often used function of Make and convert to Live paint for my work.
But One day i found a serious problem in used this function, I really don't know cause.
Pleae look at the image under.
This gray things are problem in red circle.
I tested in another computer, Live Trace> Make and convert to live paint is worked well.
Like this.(Illustrator CS5..is it cause of program's version?)
anyway, this problem made in Just my mac. HELP ME!
