Missing PS file Icons

Recently, for no apparent reason when I went to open a psd file from Photoshop I noticed all my psd icons had been replaced by generic icons.
Raw files, jpgs, ai, etc. still retain their icons, it's only the psd files.
Everything still works normally except that the files now organize themselves differently (raw, psd and jpgs with the same name used to stay together- now the psd's go to the end of the list in the folder). Any suggestions as to what may have happened?

I'm looking in every folder where I have pictures that I took with my digital camera, worked on and saved as psd files. Yes, I used to see the little blue icons with the P. Now the psd files have generic file icons (I don't know what else to call them).
I have Windows XP and I've tried every option I can think of. The P shows up as an option I can choose but it never shows up after I choose it. Luckily everything still functions normally.
Thanks for your response. Is there any other forum that would be helpful?

  • Missing APPLICATIONS & FILE Icons and can't find my themes

Please help.  I have a 3rd party application that I downloaded as required to my computer & now I need to transfer 5 files (JAR & TAR) files to my phone.  It says to follow the path: files/media card/ Blackberry/new_phones.In the instructions it says to go to "Applications" icon and click, then "file" icon and click which will bring up ALL files, then click on "File Folders"  then Media Card, then Blackberry  then press new_phones, then click new phones again and I should see the files I need to set permissions on. I do not find a APPLICATION OR FILE ICON.  I can go to Options, then advanced options and then applications but when I get there nothing says FILE. I have already put everything back to factory settings thinking maybe they were deleted at some point but there is still NO icons for these.  I really do need some help installing these files to my phone.  I dont mind if someone wants to remote into my computer to help me even.  And since I reset everything to factory settings, I can't get to ABOUT to find out what OS that I am using or when I went to set  a new theme that I just downloaded it only has one BB theme (BB Dimension Zen), the new one I just downloaded isn't even showing up.   PLEASE help me fix my mess up and install the files to the phone. It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty.  You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod.  If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

  • Missing PDF file icons

I installed generic Microsoft drivers for a new moniter, and all of my Acrobat file icons disappeared.  Actually, all of my Adobe program icons disappeared as well, but I've been able to find some of them on my system.  But while I still have the file icons for Illustrator and Photoshop (CS2), I can't seem to find how to get the PDF file icons back.  I've tried changing the opening program to something else and changing back, that didn't help.  I even tried to change the file type in the Explorer window and that didn't help.  I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere, so I was hoping someone here knows what to do.  I'm running Acrobat 7 on WinXP SE2.

The Acrobat subscription is about $19.99 per month for Pro. You can also purchase the full product for $499. Your answer may vary depending on your OS (PC or MAC). If something just changed, you might try a repair (open Acrobat and go to Help>repair. Then do updates also.). For more help, provide info on the version of Acrobat and the OS details.

  • Illustrator File Icon missing in Vista Business? !

    Hello,
Under WinXP, the AI file type would display an orange flower icon for Illustrator files. Under Windows Vista Ultimate, the AI file icon is only a white page...
Any idea why? Can this be changed?
    Thanks,
    Luke

After months with the same problem, I just found a way that worked for me. I hope it is useful for other people having the same headache.
    1. I downloaded this program: http://defaultprogramseditor.com/ (it doesn't need to be installed, and I checked it before I clicked on it, at Virus Total (http://www.virustotal.com/).
    2. The problem I found in my case, is that both .eps and .ai were just "Illustrator Files". So I deleted both file types with "Default Programs Editor", like this:
         a. Click "File Type Settings".
         b. Click "Delete an extension".
         c. In "Search", type "ai", select it and delete it.
         d. Do the same with the "eps" extension and close the Programs Editor.
    3. Open Illustrator, and the guy will cry that the Windows Registry need to be repaired; say yes (if you want, you can create a new -blank- .ai and/or a new -blank- .eps, and save them both anywhere, only to see later how they will -finally- look to the way they should usually look. ;-))
    4. Open the program "Default Programs Editor" again and follow these steps to change to the beautiful, impossible, secrets, wonderful icons you should see instead that horrible white sheet:
         a. Click "File Type Settings".
         b. Click "Icon".
         c. In "Search", type "ai", select it and click "Next".
         d. If some s**t about AIRegtool comes, just ignore it, say OK or whatever lets you to click "Browse" in order to look for the right icon inside the Illustrator (.exe) file.
It might be different in your case, but in mine (Windows Vista Home Premium, CS4) the route was: C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS4/Support Files/Contents/Windows/Illustrator.exe and click "Open".
         e. Now -finally- you can find the most wanted icons in the world. Choose the right icon (of course you will know which one it is, since you're really missing it), click "Ok", and click "Save Icon" (or you can open the menu and choose "Save to Registry" -what I did- or "Save to .reg file".
         f. Repeat the same for the rest of the icons/file types that you were missing.
P.S.: Excuse me if my English is not perfect. ;-)) Feel free to copy and post this in other forums, I know there have been thousands of people looking for a solution to this thing.
Greetings! and enjoy your icons again!! -finally.

  • File icons missing/slow to load in Finder

I've noticed this on both of my Macs running 10.10.2. Quite frequently, the usual icons next to files are initially missing and sometimes will eventually load.
This is true for zip files, mp3 files, and application files specific to a certain app but the issues seems random and not related to any specific file types.
Does anybody know of a fix so that the icons are immediately visible as they have been in every previous version of OS X? I'll attach an image where you can see only one .zip file icon appears, and a bunch are missing as well as a .jpg icon

    bump?

  • File icons missing in File Panel

Hi there, I have a brand new installation (demo) of Dreamweaver CS6 on a Mac and in the file panel the icons for files are not there. The icons for folders are there but where there should be an icon for a file there is empty white space. This is frustrating because it makes it harder to view the file list and work with the files.
I tried to uninstall Dreamweaver, removed the preference files and reinstall but that did nothing at all.
How can I get the file icons to show?

This is a known issue related to OSX and should be fixed with the 10.7.4 update.

  • File icons missing

    Hi everyone -
I'm using File.icon to render filesystem icons in an
ItemRenderer - this works fine, except for when the file does not
have an associated icon - for such files Windows Explorer will
normally use an icon from shell32.dll or similar, but this icon
doesn't seem to be what AIR receives from the system, instead it
gets blank BitmapData, where all pixel values are 0. Examples are
.TMP, .EXE or any file-type where there's no strict association
with a program. Any idea why this happens and whether there's a
workaround, other than testing for blank pixels and replacing with
    my own icon?

Yes I have seen this same issue. Exes and other extensions,
    don't have an associated icon.

  • Please Help - PDF File icon No longer working???

Ok this may sound a bit wierd, but bare with me.  Ok so I just got a new laptop because my old one was going a little wonky..... long story short, it's gone.  So I was transfering some pdf files that I had backed up to an external drive onto my new system.  Both systems are running on Windows 7 Ultimate.  So in a folder I have a number of PDF's stored.  When I open the folder I see all the files, but they all look the same, they all have the default Adobe reader icon.  This is fine, but I would much rather have my old view back.  I used to open the folder and see all of the Covers of the books that are in the pdf's.  How can I get the covers to show as the file icon again as oposed to the Adobe file icon?  There has to be something that I'm missing.  Sorry to have rambled on. I look forward to hearing your sugestions.

Thanx for the suggestion.  I did the steps that i found on google to create the enable/disable thumbnail option and changing it to enable, i can tell it has changed to enable because other file types show the thumbnails but the pdf files are still not showing.

  • [SOLVED] Can't get rid of a wine-polluted text file icon [KDE]

    Hello folks,
For some reason, my KDE system likes to use a Wine program based icon for all text files when I'm using a Faenza theme. The problem occurs only for my user (not root) so I think this is an user-specific issue.
I've already checked .local/share/icons folder for matching icon images. I found one which was named "text-plain.png", being equally the same "W-space" icon image as shown in the picture below. Thus I removed this png file from all necessary subfolders (22, 24, 32, 48...), so as far as I can think, there should not be any traces for the old icon image left. I've already re-checked all folders which I think are relevant to the issue. In addition, I've updated icon cache by using gtk-update-icon-cache and kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental commands. However, the system seems to disagree with me and the annoying icon appears still in text file icons.
The problem appears practically like in the following picture:
W-space icon image is very likely related to Adobe Photoshop which I've installed on my PlayonLinux installation (.PlayonLinux/wineprefix/photoshop). I still don't understand by which logic the system decides to use this W-space image for text files.
I wonder if I need to take further steps to get rid of this annoying icon. Am I missing something? All I want is that KDE would use basic Faenza icon for text files. Any hints are welcome!
    Thank you!

Allright, this was, after all, a very simple issue. As expected.
I simply removed file /var/tmp/kdecache-fincer/icon-cache.kcache, rebooted the system and all icons are fine now.
    Topic marked as solved.

  • Unable to install ituns on windows 7 64 missing .dll file

Unable to install ituns on windows 7 64. Installer states missing .dll file.

Here is a solution that worked for a user who also had a problem with iTunes Software Support. This thread was for a win32 version, but Maybe this is the problem for both of you?:
IT appears that AppleApplicationSupport.msi, is not opening and installing properly.
Download and SAVE iTunesSetup.exe, where you can find it.
    Then:
    1. Download and install WinRAR.
    2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
    3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".
    4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally.
Here is a link to that fairly lengthy thread.. http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2151777&tstart=-1

  • Windows 7 File Icons

I am very frustrated because I upgraded to CC from CS6 and now my file icons are missing AGAIN. I had this problem when I upgraded to InDesign CS6 and it consumed a significant amount of time to get the correct icons to appear (I believe I may have had to uninstall, download and reinstall the software). I know it doesn't impact functionality but it looks unattractive and it's BROKEN. I have seen a lot of people mention having this problem, especially with CS6, I can't believe an upgrade came out with the same broken functionality. It blows my mind. I really want my icons to appear as they were intended.
Is there an easy fix for this? My internet is too slow to reinstall.
As you can see, the indesign and photoshop icons are both missing... the illustrator icon is the only one appearing correctly. All programs were upgraded the same way, at the same time - through the adobe creative cloud desktop app (the icon on the bottom left, not sure how people refer to that program/app).
    please help
    thanks in advance.

This happened to me, too, after I had set files to open on default with the 64-bit versions of InDesign, Photoshop, etc... I got these ugly white icons with the corresponding program icon in the middle--I hated them, they looked horrendous. I tried reinstalling the programs and deleting the icon cache file, multiple times, and none of it worked.
After weeks of searching for a fix, however, I think I finally got one that works!
    Run regedit through CMD+R
Back up your registry, just in case this doesn't work or something goes wrong (File > Export...)
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .file_extension
replace .file_extenstion with whatever file type is having a icon issue, i.e.: .indd for InDesign, .psd for PhotoShop, etc...
Under the file extension there should be a key/folder named UserChoice, delete it--this is your culprit!
Repeat steps 3-4 with each file extension that has an icon issue
    Refresh your icons by:
    restarting your computer, or
    force refreshing your icons:
Start > Default Program > Set your default programs
Select your web browser, email client or any other item in the list
Click Set this program as default
    Click OK
I hope this works for you! Good luck!

  • Missing PDFMaker Files in Acrobat 9

    Hi everyone,
I am helping someone with a problem who has received this message while he tries to create a PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9.
He clicks on create pdf from file, selects the file, and then it begins to create.  But it then gives the error message "Missing PDFMaker files" and asks to run a repair.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I have even logged in under my own profile and can make the PDFs with no issue, the error does not come up for me.  I have also tried to run the repair it asks.
Aside from re-creating his profile (last resort), what can I do to correct this?
    Thanks for your help!

    Dear Sabian:
Answering both your emails. I have no problems making PDFs. Acrobat is fully operating. It is a problem that occurs only in some of the longer documents when the pages do not break the same as in the original WORD. Pages in the WORD document consistently end at 48 pi.
I am using Acrobat Pro 9. I am using WORD in Office 10. I created the PDF by selecting it when right  clicking on the document icon. Previously I successfully changed the page trim size (originally it created the PDF in letter size – but I am using a custom 6 x 9 inch page.)
    Thanks for your help.

  • File Icons Not Appearing in Finder

Over the years I have archived projects on CDs and DVDs. I have always worked on Macs. No PC involvement. I have been doing this since 1987. Over the past couple weeks I have noticed that the icons of files (not folders) on my older disks are not appearing. I am using the latest Mac OS 10.8.3 on a MacBook Pro. However, on a friend's older Mac Pro tower (Intel), running an older OS (10.6.8), the file icons do appear. Also, it seems that all folder icons do appear on both systems. I have searched the Internet for an answer. I have a lot of old files that I currently cannot seem to access because of this issue. Can anyone shed any light on this? I think it may be an OS issue.

    Hi,
I was under the impression that the Disk Level info was the bit that had the problem.
I am not sure why I ended up with that thought as you clearly state it is contents type info such as tiffs and the like you cannot "see" for long.
The Site did help with that.
I dug out a old Mag CD with a game on in.
I do not suffer losing sight of any of the files no matter which view I adopt.
It lists the Mac OS Standard as the format and the Roman encoding your Video and pics show.
(Strangely it says it was Modified  and the date is before the listed Modified dates of the files and folder it contains).
I don't have any self created disks from that time to test.
I am at a loss myself now.
Sometimes, as in my Pic, the Applications that were written for OS 9 (Classic era) and earlier have the no entry sign over them.
Other times the items will show a generic file icon as it has "lost" which app it belongs to.  (Which the PRAM reset deals with)
Your files clearly show the icons of the apps that would normally open them.
Files or folders that are normally hidden don't get counted in Quick Look or other forms of veiwing the contents, such as the lower bar in my pic.
It would appear the OS is reading the Disk properly but  then deciding that it is not going to display all of it.
I tried viewing the files on my drive if different views - iCon and Cover Flow for certain - but did not notice any difference in what was presented.
If you have the Disk Open and in the Finder > View Menu > Show View Options and then choose Show Icon Preview do you get to see the tiff files at all ?
I would also try the Size change in the Cover Flow view just to see if it is something about the icon data that is "missing" or being mis-read.
I am clutching at straws at this point.

A system restore will not do it, you would have to do a full system
    REPAIR.
If you copy Just the keys above and past them into notepad and save them to your desktop as any name you want, just make sure they have a *.reg extension, then double click on them and the keys will be added to your regristry.  There are two keys above
    so make two *.reg files.
    This will make one file:

When the key's have been added to your registry you must reboot for them to take effect.
