Missing Sent Mail

Sent mail is not appearing in my local Mail client although it does appear on Mobile Me. Attempts to fix the problem include recreating my mail account, syncing account, reindexing my mail and reinstalling the Mail application. A sent mail folder exists locally but sent mail does not appear in the folder.
Are there any other suggestions for fixing the problem?

Based on your previous post you know you're way around the 'Mail' application, but if you can't find out where to go just post back. Now I don't know much about MobileMe and if his has any effect on this at all as well, just FYI.
Go into your mail preferences and accounts and find out what is set as your outgoing mail server. Also go to rules from preferences and see if anything is listed there.

  • Missing Sent Mail in Lion Mail

Since I upgraded to Lion a few days ago, I have not been able to view the text of recently sent messages. For replies, the reply icon shows up and a message pops up when the icon is clicked, but the body perpetually "loads" and nothing displays. This same behavior happens when I double-click a sent email - the body perpetually loads. Older sent messages load fine.
This morning I rebuilt my Sent mailbox to see if it would show my sent mail bodies. Now I am missing most of my sent mail. Oddly, a few recent sent mails show up fine.
I had thousands of sent emails from all my interaction with clients and such. I really need these back. I use an Earthlink POP account. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Update: I just replied to a new incoming email. I clicked the reply icon which brought up the message in a new window, but my reply body is perpetually loading. In went to view the message in my Sent mailbox. It is there, but I see no body preview in the list or the preview pane. I get only the spinning gear and "Loading..."
    Help.

  • Missing sent mails on ipad ios7

when i answered recvd mail in the generic email programme on ipad conventionally the BCC used to be seen in the email Inbox on sending. now this is erratic and sometimes some mails do not get sent and are nowhere to be found .. this is serious as we assume it is gone. i use gmail accounts and they worked perfect till ios7 upgrade

    Hello Ranjit68,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are getting some unexpected behaviour after your update to iOS 7.
I want to recommend these 2 steps from the article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
    Cheers,

  • Missing Sent Mail messages

This problem has plagued 2 macs and is extremely annoying OS X 10.8.2 + Mail 6.2 - and also on 10.7.4 and Mail 5.2
Sometimes, when I send email, especially if it has attachments, the send op completes, but there are no traces of the sent email in the sent mailbox on the Mail client or on the iCloud web interface.
The message itself more often than not actually reaches the intended recipient, but I have no record of it ever having been sent.
Sometimes, when there are more than one recipient, it will go to some, but not all recipients
this is now happenng almost daily and is seriously impacting my business.
I tried rebuilding the mailbox. No effect.
Has anyone experienced this? How would I go about tracing the sent op or messages? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I see that this is very annoying and for someone who sends lots of emails for work is very bad!! It happened to me sometimes, fortunately that times I was sending emails to my other email accounts to do various checks.
Mine is not an answer, but if you haven't already done it, I suggest to send a feedback to the Apple Mail team :
Mail -> Provide Mail feedback... -> choose if you want or not send information to apple and click continue and you will be sent to a page where you can describe your problem and send it to the team (probably as bug because is quite important).
You can mark the fact that this is a serious problem and maybe someone will tackle the issue to resolve it.
This is a discussion forum, not sure that experts and developers look here for the bugs!!
Because is a problem that involves theoretically both Apple Mail and eventually the servers (maybe both or maybe just one of the two) that actually handle the sending operation (Gmail,Yahoo, etc.) I would suggest to send the email both from webmail and from Apple Mail for example to one of your accounts to see if they both arrive.

  • On iOS 6, I'm unable to swith off my iPhone 4 and also missing sent mails.?

    Hi,
I updated my iOS 5.1.1. to recent iOS 6 but I'm facing many problems besides Apple Maps. I'm unable to send emails hence I was trying to swich off my iPhone 4 but that also problematic.

If you have an existing backup that was made before this happened, and if you are the original owner of the phone and know the ID and password that were used to activate it originally, you can force the phone into recovery mode (which will erase it) in order to restore it, as explained here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.  Caution: if you aren't the original owner, or don't know the ID and password that were used to activate it originally, you will not be able to reactivate the phone after restoring it.  After restoring it, you can restore your existing backup.

  • HT201774 my SENT mail does not show up in my iphone

my SENT mail does not show up in my iphone and will not sync with the rest of my mail

IF you are talking about Exchange on Google with Gmail (ie chose exchange and using m.google.com) here is what I did to fix it.
Using your browser, sign into Gmail.  IF, NEAR THE BOTTOM of your folder lists, you have a label(folder) on the left side called "Sent Items" then delete it (mine never had anything in it and i think it's for conversations.)  BTW, I KNOW this is a Junk E-Mail (remember i already deleted my folder) but wanted to show you the drop down and Remove Label option.
Then go to your  Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Exchange -> Mail Folders to Push -> and put a checkbox next to SENT (looks like a paper airplane)
backout, go back into mail -> Exchange -> and you should then see the same paper airplane there.
What was happening with mine was it would show up and then disappear as soon as it synced.  The only thing i can think of is that GMAIL has a folder called SENT xxxxx (that I deleted above) that confused the iPhone and i believe it's for Messages not Mail (via google talk)
Once that was deleted, Voila!  No more missing sent mail.  Also, it has showed up on my iPad again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Date Sent not showing in Sent Mail

After a certain date, using Mail application, the Date (sent) is not showing in the header along with To & From & Subject. Why?
I have tried to get it to show using view prefs. Doesn't work.
I have changed to using a network time server. Doesn't work.
I've tried moving it to another folder. Doesn't work.
I need the date to show so when I print, I have proof of date and time sent...
    Anyone?

Not sure about the time stamp problem, but the missing "Sent" mails problem is not uncommon. This problem is one that a lot of people have and in my opinion, I think it's a problem with Apple's mail application, nothing at the user's end.
Does this happen only when you include an attachment or does that matter? Also, does it only happen when your outgoing message is delayed a bit? Check your junk/spam folder to see if your sent messages went in there.
This doesn't fix anything, but you might change your e-mail settings so that all new mails are automatically sent Bcc to yourself.
Sometimes the "missing" sent mails are not going in the right folder. I'm sure you probably already know, but in the left-hand column in MAIL, under Mailboxes, there is a second "sent" folder way at the bottom, depending on your other e-mail accounts, such as Yahoo or Gmail). Many people have discovered their missing "sent" e-mails in those.
It is a big hassle, for sure, and has been officially reported. Users with complaints are being told that Apple's Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems block the connection from a user's e-mail client when it attempts to store outgoing e-mails, which contain attachments, to the users'  sent folder.
This is supposedly due to the Mac OS/Mac Mail sending non-standard or erroneous commands to the server, emulating the activity which would be generated by an attacker attempting to abuse an exploit in the IMAP server. I doubt you are doing anything wrong, so it's just a matter of waiting for them to FIX this annoying issue.

  • Sent Mail Missing

MacBook Pro Laptop and .mac subscriber for years. Opened mail this evening and all sent mail messages are missing. I noticed mail was caching sent mail in Activity Window so I let it run. 1784 messages and attachments apparently were cached. I opened and closed mail and still no sent mail.
I looked at MobileMe and all my sent mail is on the server. I'm hesitant to do a sync until I know why the messages are off my laptop.

I doubt the messages are gone; Mail has probably just lost it's mind and doesn't realize they're there. So let's try rebuilding your Mail index.
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the Envelope Index file to your Desktop.
    3. Restart Mail and allow it to import your existing mailboxes; when it's done your index will have been rebuilt. Check to see whether or not your messages are back; if so, you can delete the old Envelope Index file on your Desktop.

  • Sent Mail Messages Missing

I'm trying to do some detective work. I'm not sure what could have caused this, but this morning I discovered that all email messages that I sent after February 24 have disappeared.
Yesterday evening I ran MacScan, which I have configured to scan my Home folder in search of spyware and tracking cookies. I've run it previously every month, and all it has ever reported finding were a dozen or so tracking cookies; never any spyware, and there had never been any problems. Last night, it found only 14 tracking cookies; nothing else, and I instructed MacScan to isolate them. Then I quit MacScan.
After that, I ran TechTool Pro's Protection Setup, which copies directory structure data from each of my four drives to each other for safety. Then I ran Diagnostics, which checks the drives. Protection and Diagnostics run every night, with never a problem.
After that I did my regular nightly backup using Deja Vu, which includes copying my entire Home/Library/Mail folder to an external drive.
And this morning, as I said, *+everything in Mail appears fine with the exception of the missing Sent messages after February 24+*. I realize, of course, that if this was caused by something I ran prior to the backup being done, then my backup is also missing those Sent messages.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Well, BD, this may just leave you scratching your head in wonder.
In my Home/Library/Mail folder, I located the appropriate email account folder. Inside it are the folders we're accustomed to seeing: Deleted Messages.mbox, Drafts.mbox, INBOX.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, and a file called 'MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2.'
Despite the fact that there are 986 messages showing in Mail's Inbox, the INBOX.mbox folder contains only FIVE messages (inside the INBOX 'Messages' folder). Yes, just 5. And, despite the fact that there are 15 messages showing in Mail's Drafts box, the 'Messages' folder inside the Drafts.mbox has only ONE message in it. Similarly, ... WAIT JUST A @#$%^&* MINUTE HERE....
I have just come back from running some errands. Prior to leaving, I had quit Mail and put the G4 to sleep. Now, all the previously missing messages (some 400 or so) are back. However, clicking on any of the messages composed and sent prior to running MacScan displays the following text: "*+The message... has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.+*"
But the 'Messages' folder inside the Sent Messages.mbox contains only TWO messages. And what I described two paragraphs earlier is still true. How can Mail display messages that aren't even present in the corresponding folders?
    Wow... I am stumped.

  • Sent mail delays or missing

I have seen the posts about sent mail using MobileMe. As indicated by some respondents, it seems to me that there is a problem here that has not been addressed and that it is a recent one. Although my settings have not changed at all, sent mail is either missing or very much delayed in showing up on my computer and this is a recent phenomenon. Can anyone point to an "official" response from Apple that indicates what is going on and what, if anything, we can do to fix the problem. Thanks.

I have a user that is experiencing this problem on a G5 Mac Tower. After migrating his data from a laptop, he stating that certain e-mails are not showing up in his sent mail. Recipients of said e-mails are receiving them, but this is a problem for him. I can suggest the workaround but it will add an extra step to move these e-mails to the sent mail folder. Can anyone help, please? Thanks in advance!

    @Satterp
Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1.  The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.

  • "sent" mail doesn't show up, missing reply emails, sudden "deleted" emails

I have been hving some problems with Mail recently, three issues have become major Pains in the ***:
    1. Just about every 3 or 4 emails that I send from my .mac account seem to go through but a copy or receipt of them don't show up in the "sent" mail folder/area.
    2. If I reply to an email in my in box, it will show the little "you replied to this email arrow icon" but when I click on the arrow, it will say that the message "has been deleted or missing"
    3. Lastly every 3-4 emails - As I am writing the note a window will pop up and say that the "email cannot be saved" but allows me to click "OK" and then continue typing the note and will sent it just fine.
Is there a master reset on Mail or can I reinstall just the Mail program ? ( i really don't want to do that) I ran disk utility and my drive seems to be fine, the permissions are good.
    any help would be great.
    thanks.

    MBP 15" 1.83GHz core duo 1.5GBramm   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm having the same problem, although it is not with a .mac account, it is with IMAP accounts, which to the best of my knowledge is the server type used by .mac.
The weird part about all of this is that I use several e-mail accounts on my computer... one of them is a POP3, the rest are IMAP. Historically every message I've sent, regardless of the account, has been stored in the Sent folder, now only mail being sent from the POP3 account is being stored.
After unchecking the feature to store sent mail on the server for one of the IMAP accounts and sending a test message from IMAP address to POP3 address everything seemed to be working fine.... but I don't like that I had to do that. One of the reasons I use IMAP is so that I don't have to worry about what e-mails are stored where, because I use multiple computers.... but once I start telling my portable Macbook to no longer store outgoing messages on the server.... that could become a problem for me.
I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes several times to no avail. (Although I'm not entirely sure what rebuild does, I thought it'd be worth a shot)
And yes, my network card settings are just fine.
It might be worth noting that I've done a substantial amount of software updates over the past few days, and if I knew how to get you a list of those, I would.

Using Mail 6.3 and a gmail.imap account. My sent emails are missing from my macbook pro but can view them at mail.google.com and on my iphone and ipad. How do I set up my mail account to display the missing sent emails?

    Hi APK25,
If your Sent messages aren't showing up where you expect them to, you may want to take a look at the following article:
