  • CREDIT REBUILD PROJECT LOG

Hey there...  I started reading this forum in June 2008 and have begun the long journey of recovering my credit.  I have decided to log my activity as I take this journey for two reasons.  First, if anyone has suggestions or critiques, I would love to hear it.  Second, if anyone is about to start a similar project, they may learn from my mistakes. So, here we go! 6-4-2008 - Denied for multiple CC apps, seeking a new gas card.  went online and pulled all 3 fico reports: EXP - 577    EQU - 530  TRANS - 542 This is when I began reading everything I could on these forums.  I found that much of my report was inaccurate or outright did not belong to me.  I began the dispute process as soon as I had a clear understanding about how it worked.

  • Credit Rebuilding Guidance

Any and all help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. As of now my Fico 8 scores are EQ 545, TU 542, EX 538 and I have just under $11K in total debt.  There are currently 4 accounts in collection for a total of $1200, I have written letters to pay off the debt for 25% of the current collection.  Almost $6k of my total debt is in a student loan. I just hit my 5th year as a teacher which allows me to apply for loan forgiveness, I have had 2 colleagues do this and both had their debt forgiven in less than 4 months. Fingers crossed on that one.  Lastly and where I need the most counseling is how to pay down my two credit cards. The first is a CapOne Premium opened in 09/12 currently with a balance of $1665, limit of $1800 and an interest rate of 22.9%.  The second card is my Credit Union card opened in 07/06 currently with a balance of $1485, limit of $3500 and an interest rate of 8.9%. I am looking to devote $300-400 per month in repayments and wondered how much I should contribute to each card. Also would you suggest alleviating some of the debt on the higher interest card with the lower one? Ideally I would like to have at least one more report to help build my credit but I am not sure I am currently ready to do that. I don't want another credit card with a low limit that I will more than likely not use long term. I guess my only other option would be a secured loan through my CU. Again I thank everyone for the help, at this point I don't really have a credit score goal, my goal is to be as close to debt free as possible by the end of the calendar year.

When its get to about $1K, thats when I would balance transfer it to your other card. Apply for a second Cap One card after you get the balance tranferred. I'd suggest the QS1 rewards card. Sure, it will be a low limit initially, but if you use it a decent amount and make good sized payments, it will grow quickly. My wifes scores are similar to yours, she got her second Cap One card (QS1) with a starting limit of $500, and got it increased to $1500 by the third statement. Credit Steps should raise that to $2K in another 2 months. A secured loan is not really going to help much, scorewise. It will help a little, but not as much as getting that third revolving account. Thats not saying don't do it, just that you really should do both for maximum score boost.

  • Fell beside the garden with the shopping cart trick. Ah well.

I had NO intention whatsoever of opening another account, as I really do have what I need for now. But all those pretty little things at VS got me and then they told me I was an Angel and offered me a preapproval when I went to pay, and from there I was shopping on the last day of the semi-annual sale with a new account to go along with deeply discounted bras and free shipping.  Granted, I did think it through when I got the pop-up, and I know this isn't a card that will get much use as I only shop there during the semi-annual or other really good deals but I think the Comenity cards grow quickly and the VS point/reward system is pretty good. Also, I don't plan on ceasing to wear nice underwear anytime soon so I didn't have to twist my arm much to accept the offer lol SN: This was my first ever pop-up as I just started my credit rebuilding journey in Jan. of this year, so it did feel really good to see that I'm making enough progress for banks to notice. I'll be paying this bill as soon as I receive my card in a week or so and heading back into the garden!'

  • Been in the garden...want some LUV!!!

Well, I have been in the garden with regards to credit card apps/CLIs since October of last year and thought it was time to see if I could get some LUV from my two main cards.  A local Credit Union Visa Platinum and my Barclay Rewards Mastercard. For local CU Visa Platinum went from a 5K limit to 10K limit.  Was happy about that.Barclay rewards mastercard went from $2750 to 4K limit (asked for 5K).  Given that I just got an auto CLI from Barclays in January, I wasn't planning on it.  Asked for LUV and got the ten day notice... called the RECON line and was asked some questions (mostly about my Ch. 7 BK back in 2013).  So, all in all, can't say I am dissapointed with these results.  So now, between Target and Amazon and these two cards, I have over 20K of credit - not too bad for less than two years post BK discharge. Just wanted to share the news!!!

OP: That is wonderful news. Thanks for sharing! Congrats to you and much luck with your credit rebuilding endeavors!

  • Looking hopeless, 400s scores starting hopeless journey to major credit repair

Hi everyone, I'm new  to this forum and myfico. I'm 25 years old and today I decided to get serious about fixing my credit. I got tired of believing that I'll never have a 700 score in my life and have been trying to make the steps necessary to fix some major damage. I was young and stupid and let every account in my early 20s get charged off. I've never made any consistent payments and due to all that stupidity and neglect, no one will take a chance on me now. In fact, I have now been declined for multiple SECURED credit cards, including Bank of America, TOTAL Visa, Wells Fargo, and CapitalOne which I thought was impossible. In fact, I've never been approved for anything nor have I even gotten close to being prequalified for anything. I checked my scores and I'm starting at 476 TransUnion and 490 Equifax according to credit karma and 500 Equifax, 492 TransUnion, and 497 Experian according to myFico. I've even gotten declined for a car loan to try to rebuild that route despite the fact my income is great. Money isn't a huge issue any more these days seeing as I don't really owe anyone money and have been paying everything in cash. I've got 7 charge offs, 2 of which from 2008 which I'm in the process of trying to get removed from my reports. I had a car loan that I defaulted on and got repossessed last year that I was able to fully pay off the day of the repo but is recent and still a major sting on my reports. The only revolving account I have is a $500 secured credit card from a local credit union. I also bought a blender from FingerHut today and will commence payments on that from this month on. I also tried this website called SelfLender that puts money into a savings account and said that it would report and help rebuild credit but haven't seen it reported on anything yet. I applied for Crown Jeweler's and am awaiting a decision. And I have a student loan that just entered repayment this month. What else can I do? Should I open more secured credit cards? More credit rebuilder loans through credit unions? With what I have right now, do I just sit back and wait? Do I dispute everything negative on my reports even if they're accurate? Some of you guys' stories have been inspirational. But right now I feel like there's really no hope since my scores are about as bad as they can get. Getting declined for secured cards and the idea that no one will take a chance on me even if I pay them to is really making all of this seem impossible. Any input would really help!

Any input would really help!Look at it this way - there's only one direction from here, and thats UP.Realistically, rebuilding is a long term process that takes a minimum of 24 months. Take it in 6 months increments. You already have a start with the secured credit card from the credit union.  Build on that. In a few months the FH account will start to grow. Keep watching your scores, they will improve as you move out from the last derog (the repo?). Once you get into the 500's consider getting a second secured card, either Cap One, or Open Sky.  Now, the 7 Charge offs - What are they, and when did each one occur? How are they being reported? Balances?BTW, you are pretty much right where I was last August when I started this journey. After one year of *mostly* just managing and using my credit cards effectively, I've come up about a hundred points.

  • Capio showing up 3 times on my credit history

I am in the process of rebuilding my credit. I had a bankruptcy 9 years ago and a devastating divorce. Many things happened and I have been unable to get ANY type of credit whatsoever. About 7 months ago, I was reading about easy ways to start rebuilding my credit. Once suggestion was getting a Fingerhut card. I thought...what the heck. I applied and it worked! From there, I was able to add Capital One secured and a couple of other cards such as Amazon store card and a Kohl’s charge card. I have not been late at all on any of my payments. However, my score right now is 554. It went down a several points over the last few day because a company called Capio put 3 strikes on it. I am not sure what the items are, but it really made me angry. I do not know much yet about the credit-rebuilding saga, but I am reaching out to all of you in hopes that you can tell me how to get this taken care of.   Any ideas on how I can get these what it means and how I can get them removed? Thank you so much in advance for any assistance. SlippedHalo

Thank you DagsKY for the reply. I have already pulled my yearly credit report so I can't do it again (without paying). I would like to dispute them but, like I said in my original post, I really don't know how to go about doing that. I hate to sound inept, but since I have just started on this journey of cleaning up my act (credit) - any direction would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you,SlippedHalo

  • AMEX Optima "Oasis" Rebuilding Program Any experience?

I am fairly new to this community and have found the information and advice found here to be extremely helpful. This past summer, I was offered and accepted into AMEX's "Oasis" credit rebuilding program, by being given an Optima card with a $900 limit, after AMEX closed two of my longstanding credit cards with them. I had a Gold card that I fell behind on payments on, and an AMEX JetBlue card that while current, AMEX closed due to the late paymenyts on the Gold card. Anyway, I'm trying to find out information on what exactly I can expect from AMEX with this Optima card. I've read conflicting info on the internet. I'd love to hear from anyone who is currently using the credit rebuilding AMEX Optima card or who has used it in the past. I'm wondering if I can ever request a credit limit increase or expect to be given a cli, and if so, when should I request/expect one? I did notice that there is a Request Credit Limit Increase button online in my account. Does anyone know if this would be a hardpull? Also, can I apply for another AMEX product while I have this Optima card or upgrade this Optima card to another AMEX product? And when should I attempt either? Any advice, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Very cool. Thanks. Only thing I was confused by is whether you're saying I also have to wait a year to request a credit line increase. Or can I do that now (about 6 months in).The representative told me you can request a CLI and apply for another Amex product (without closing your Oasis Card) after 12 months. You may try and apply for a CLI or for another card and see what happens.  It would only cost you a SP.   Any updates on your CLI?

  • Capital one Approval!

So i'm working on rebuilding my credit after getting my chapter 7 discharge in february. I was planning on opening a second secured card next week, but decided to go ahead and try the capital one pre qualifier just for the hell of it. To my surprise they said I was pre-qualified for the Capital one Platinum, and the QuicksilerOne card. So I went ahead and applied for the platinum, instantly approved. Then I remembered someone on the forum saying that if you were approved for one card through them then you would most likely be approved for a second one, so I went ahead and applied for the quicksilver and was approved for that one as well!  Both have a $300 limit which may not seem like a lot but to someone like me who is young, in college, has 3 kids, and trying to build a credit history, it is great. So I guess now I probably won't be needing that second secured card through my credit union. It's only through using this website that ive been able to gain the knowledge to begin my credit rebuilding journey, and i am truly greatful, so thank you! Edit: Do you guys think it is worth applying for an amazon store card? or am i likely to be declined? Reason I am asking is i've had my eye on an air conditioner on there and was planning on just paying cash for it when I get payed monday.

  • Rounded Out the Comenity Lineup....

Well, I figured since Comenity was so willing to help me on my credit rebuilding journey, I'd try to round out the lineup yesterday. Landed the following: Orbitz VISA $7000FRN MC $5000Virgin America VISA $3500 All were done with the pop up and all auto approved except my last one, Virgin America, that I had to call on and the nice woman put it through for me. In the last 2 days I've added $27,500 from Commenity in the way of VISA/MC and $16150 with two retail cards.  Time to garden.

Wow...  Didn't really realize how long it had been since I updated here... Quite a bit has happened! I'm only left with 3 or 4 of the above baddies as of now and my FAKO scores have climbed from the low 500's up to 580 - 590  range. So I'm happy about that for sure. Within the last week I applied for and was approved for a Fingerhut Account ($500), and a C1 Quicksilver One Card ($300). I also have a secured Mastercard with a $500 CL . The last few CA's are proving tough to deal with and I don't think they are going to fall off any time soon (I won't give up though!!)...  So I decided since my scores were creeping up to the 600 mark I should start rebuilding with new credit as you can see above. I'm very curious what kind of ceilings my score might see with these 3 or 4 baddies staying active? I know each credit profile is different, but I have seen some folks get as high as 660 - 680 even though they still have some CA's or other derogs reporting. This has been quite a challenge and definitely takes some perservance and close monitoring. It's still awesome to see the progress every one else is making, so ya'll keep it up!!Even with numerous derogs, as long as you keep up on everything, as those derogs age and you build current credit, its possible to hit 700 in about 2 years or so.Would this hold true even if the derogs are reporting on a monthly basis? Honestly could not say for sure - but if I had to geuss I would say probably not. The baddies I have left are with places notorious for not doing any PFD or GW removal. (CapOne, LVNV, First Premier)...  Should I just bite the bullet and pay these so at a minimum they stop reporting and as they age it will improve my score slowly? DoFD on all of them is throughout 2013 so they won't age off until 2020. Most of the experienced people will say yeah, if they are updating, bite the bullet so they can age. On another note, how much new, positive credit is enough? I have Fingerhut, 2 CapOne CC's and a Secured CC as well...  Obviously on time payments and CLI's will help over time...  I don't really want to go adding store cards (via SCT) for the sake of having more postiive TL's, but I will do it if it will help. My short term goal is to do whatever I can to get my scores close to 650ish so I can look at refinancing my current auto loan, or at a minimum getting a new auto loan and rolling negative equity into it so I can get rid of this 20% interest rate auto loan I currently have... It depends on how many negative accounts you have - the rule of thumb here is that you want more positive accounts than negative accounts (aside from collections). Thanks again to the community for all the help, and Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there!

Hey everyone!!!  I thought I would essentially start my credit rebuilding process with somewhat of a journal so to speak (as many others have done here, reading the stories and the progress is very inspirational!)...   I actually began doing this over a year ago when some life circumstances got in the way.  The only positive thing I managed to get done was completely rehabbing my defaulted SL's.  Now I have an account in good standing with Great Lakes.  I want to detail out all of baddies here and the actions I plan on taking so those of you with more experience and guidance can correct me if I'm headed in the wrong direction.  Be warned... I have a lot of garbage to take care of!!! First...  The Good: Auto Loan with Santander in good standing since 7/2013 - Would like to refi this when my score is better.  IR is awful currentlySL's with Great Lakes in good standing since 8/2014 Now THE BAD: Capital One Auto Finance:  Charged Off from a Repo in 2/2013.  Owed: $6,000 - Will attempt a PFD then a GW with OCCapital One  CC:  Charged Off.  Owed: $600 - No CA is on record - How can I proceed?Credit One Bank CC:  Charged Off - Have a CA with LVNV for this.  Owed: $1,300 - Will attempt a PFD then a GW with OCChase CC:  Charged Off.  I was only an AU on this account and I am trying to have this deleted via dispute, otherwise I will attempt a GWUSDOE Direct Loans:  I have 3 separate accounts for my SL's.  Each of these show as closed but have LPs recorded.  My SL with Great Lakes shows positive history dating back to the beginning of this account so I am trying to have these removed via dispute.  If that fails, then I will GW since my SL's are rehabbed and in good standing. Anyone have experience with this?First Premier CC: Charged Off.  Owed: $300 -  No CA is on record - How can I proceed?Credit Collection Services:  CA for an insurance bill.  Owe: $337 - PFDSecurity Collection Services: CA for a closed checking account.  Owe: $750 - PFDCashCall: This is currently 90 days late, but will be PIF this month.  Will GW to have lates removed once PIF completeDiversified Consultants: CA for ATT bill.  Signed for account for a family member and they failed to pay.  Owe: $275 - PFD As you can see I have a lot of work ahead of me.  Are any of the actions in red above the incorrect path to take?  Obviously I can't tackle them all at once, but am wondering if I should attack the smaller ones first just to work the negative TL's off my report?  I am hoping I may be able to rebuild to the point that I can get a smallish ($5k or so) installment loan at some point to help pay off the largest amounts above.   From reading about other folks journey's I know this process is a slow one that requires patience.  Good thing currently is that I have all of my CR's in hand and think I know what actions to take.  The last SW I received from myFICO had my Equifax score at 529 around 8/2014.  I will do a full score pull sometime before the end of the year so I have an official starting point.   It's strange to say but I'm actually excited to get this moving.  Wish me luck, and thanks in advance to all those who provide support and answer questions around here.  You are all awesome!!!          CapOne Auto: I would offer PFD. Worst case we be to settle in full for less. They like to sue.
CapOne CC: Offer PFD.First Premeir: Offer PFD. They are tough to deal with. I paid them in full and they deleted. However they never would agree to.Looks like you have a good plan for the other baddies. I would suggest that you start rebuilding with a few credit cards. Maybe start with a secured one. Good Luck

  • Can't believe it happened again

Hello all!.So I've spent the last week reading the forums hoping to find some reassurance, but I haven't found any situations like mine. I'm sure I'm not alone, so I decided to reach out. After filing chapter 7 in Oct 2008 ( dc Jan '09) , I find myself facing it again next year. The reason for the first bk was basically clean-up following the end of a very bad, very long relationship where we both made terrible financial decisions while we were young. I managed to keep my head above water for a few years until I became ill. Now I'm on disability and unable to work a full-time job. I'm raising a daughter whose headed to college this fall and my ex hasn't paid support in years. Up until last summer we were "surviving", but I don't see any way out of my current debt with my limited income. I feel horrible not being able to pay the credit cards I owe, but I have to pay tuition that's not covered by my daughter's financial aid. My question is, can I rebuild the same as before or will multiple bk filings seal my financial doom?

This is something I'm certainly not proud of, but I've been in a very similar situation as you.  I filed Ch 7 in August 2006 (DC Dec 06) due to being irresponsible with credit.  My credit was already bad from not knowing how to use it properly, I had to buy cars from BHPH lots, if a car broke I just gave it back and went to the next lot.  It caught up to me eventually with a lawsuit and request to garnish, we filed BK.  We re-established had a home, cars, credit cards, very low util and very low DTI, then I lost my job.  Went from making $150K to $0 overnight.  So, here we were with crap credit again.  We started a business after my job loss which eventually went under due to the economy.  Then a lawsuit and potential garnishment from business debt drove us to Ch 7 again in Oct 14 (DC Jan 15). I can personally assure you it has been just as easy to rebuild after the second BK (both currently show on my reports, the first will fall off by next month).  As a matter of fact, it has probably been easier to rebuild this time because of this forum.  I know what to apply for and what to stay away from.  I've read BK to 700 a dozen times, and while I haven't followed it 100%, I have learned a lot about how to maximize my scores.  Six months post DC and all three scores are nearing 650. If you file, familiarize yourself with the BK to 700 thread and follow it closely, it's your credit rebuild Bible. BTW, you mention paying for your daughter's tuition, are you using Parent PLUS loans for this?  If so, you likely won't qualify for PLUS loans until two-years after DC.  However, you can get a PLUS loan with a guarantor and when the first payment comes due you consolidate the PLUS loan and the guarantor comes off (it's a loophole, guarantors aren't required for consolidation loans).  I worked in the student loan industry (this is the high paying job I lost), so I know all the tips and tricks.  LOL. Good luck!

  • Dreamweaver Templates are Locked

    CS6
I have created some .dwt. I understand that on pages I create from the template only editable regions can be edited. However I thought if I needed to make a change to the template itself in a non editable region, I could and it would update all associated pages. The problem I am having is that my dwt files won't let me edit unless it is in an editable region and then it doesn't update associated pages. I must have done something wrong??

It is a bad thing and will come back to bite you later. It's better than you should know how to do this. I'll show you the fixed code here. Save this amended file as "whatever.html" in the root of your site, i.e., outside of the Templates folder. What I did =
    1. Remove all instances of "<!-- TemplateBeginEditable..." and <!--TemplateEndEditable-->" (obviously outside of DW)
    2. Change all occurrences of "../" to null (assuming that you had saved this file as *.dwt within the /Templates folder.
    3. Fixed some minor spelling errors (e.g., 'goggle', etc.)
Let us know if my going in assumptions are not correct.

googled the company and found your website and number. I called and explained to the person that answered (Kim I think) that my friend and I had purchased the Gothic arch greenhouse from you in 1986 and still going strong! </p>
