Mix Album Organization

I have imported some mp3's to create a mix album on iTunes. iTunes is organising the songs alphabetically by the name of the artist. How can i change this to organise alphabetically by the track name?

Boss Hogg,
Even tho you did not exactly ask, there is one more thing that you need to know. If you want to change the sequence of songs in a playlist, first follow MK's directions and click over the track number (to the left of Name). Then it will let you adjust the position of any track by dragging upward or downward. As a serious mixer surely you want to control the flow, and not be constrained to alphabetical by name.

  • Mix albums in itunes

when i listen to mix albums in i tunes, when ever it mixes into the next track it jumps slightly and does not mix properly, does anyone know how to fix this problem.

If you are importing from CD you have to choose to join tracks. You might try searching these forums for "join tracks".

  • Tagging mixed albums

In addition to the normal Alternative bands I like to listen to on my iPod, I also listen to a lot of trance albums. One of the problems I'm having is the way mixed albums are tagged. Take for instance, Universal Religion Chapter 4 by Armin Van Buuren. When I rip that CD, iTunes fills the tag info with the original author that Armin remixed for that particular song. For example, on that album track 2 is "This Moment (Prog Mix)" and the Artist is tagged with the original artist's information, "Nic Chagall feat. Jonath Mendelson". After trasnferring the whole album to my iPod, when I go to "Artists" view, I see every song in that album (14 tracks total) listed under a different artist, 14 artists in total. After ripping or purchasing multiple albums from itunes, the list of artists basically becomes an unusable mess.
Is there a way, without changing the actual artist info, to have the artist displayed as the disc author (in this case, Armin Van Buuren) without changing the actual artist in the id3 tag?
I tried to be as clear as possible. Hopefully the question makes sense. =P

If you don't want to use crossfade playback you have to use "Join tracks" when importing from CD.

  • Downloaded mix album not all there

I've downloaded a mix album and all the tracks are there as single tracks but after downloading the actual album it was in the processing stage when my battery went dead on my laptop. I turned it back on expecting it to resume but it didn't and when I checked to see where it was it said the album had been downloaded but it wasn't there.
Have tried apple support but getting no reply , any ideas?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Trouble downloading continuous mixed albums on iTunes

I recently purchased some mixed albums, iTunes downloaded the individual tracks just fine, but when it came to the continuous mixes it came up with an error (-1450) It said to check my connection, which is fine, and try again, but still the same result?
    Can anyone offer any solutions?

For gapless playback on Windows, it's as easy as foobar2000.
It's a pity that iTunes doesn't play back albums as one would expect, and I've communicated with Apple about this in a number of ways over the years, as have countless other users. I think the thing to keep in mind is that even if Apple corrected the inherent problems in iTunes and iPod, true gapless playback could still not be achieved except for files ripped directly from audio CDs in a gapless and lossless format (AIFF, WAV, Apple Lossless), or with files encoded using LAME or Nero's AAC encoder. This also means that every single album ever sold on the iTMS will never have the possibility of playing back without encoder-introduced gaps between tracks. Somehow I think it would go over like a lead balloon if Apple put out a huge press release stating that iTunes and iPod were now gapless playback-compliant, with the exception of any music bought from the iTMS or encoded with iTunes' MP3 and AAC encoders (in other words, pretty much anything in a given user's iTunes library). Well, I'd still be happy to hear the news, as I use LAME and Nero AAC
I finally bought my first iPod the other day, and knew what to expect from it. I've spent a vast amount of time preparing my music for gapless playback on the iPod, and I have to say it was a chore. My best friends along the way were PlexTools Professional, foobar2000 + foocuesheetcreator, Nero Digital Audio Reference Quality MPEG-4 & 3GPP Audio Codec, my PowerMac G4, cuetools, and AudioBinder.
So, now I've got perfect gapless playback on my new iPod and in iTunes.
What I'm waiting for at this point is for <a href="http://music.morbo.org/wiki/dop:start"foo_dop</a> to make some more progress reading Nero chapters in MP4/M4A album images.

  • IPhoto '08 album organization while network sharing

I use iPhoto to store and organize (hopefully) a University's photo archive (which is shared on a network). Would anyone happen to know why my albums do not stay organized (in alphabetical order) when I access a shared iPhoto library remotely?
Also, when I create a new folder and place albums inside of it (for further organization purposes because there are many, many albums) then try to access that folder remotely from another mac, that folder is not 'recognized' as a true folder with albums in it, instead it is treated as one big album.
Another issue is that when i try to export my iPhoto library (under file>export) it won't keep the organization structure (the separate albums). Instead, it places the entire collection of photos into one location, thus losing all those albums and hours of organization.
I'm a bit shocked that Apple hasn't found these issues and fixed them 7 releases later.
Plus, for those people on campus that need access to the University photo archive, they have to find a Mac nearby. Is there any way to share this archive with PCs using iPhoto? Or is there an Adobe product or other other product I should be using that is better designed for these purposes (organization/file structure consistency when network sharing and cross-platform compatible)??
I hope I don't have to switch to a new application, everyone in my department (and other Mac departments) are completely comfortable with iPhoto and it would be a huge learning curve for them to try a new photo database/sharing/storing/editing/organizing/etc. application!
    Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I use iPhoto to store and organize (hopefully) a University's photo archive (which is shared on a network).
This is way, way beyond the intended use of iPhoto which is personal photo organiser.
Also, when I create a new folder and place albums inside of it (for further organization purposes because there are many, many albums) then try to access that folder remotely from another mac, that folder is not 'recognized' as a true folder with albums in it, instead it is treated as one big album.
Only Albums are shared. Not events. not folders. Only Albums.
Another issue is that when i try to export my iPhoto library (under file>export) it won't keep the organization structure (the separate albums). Instead, it places the entire collection of photos into one location, thus losing all those albums and hours of organization.
If you export your Library you get the photos from your Library. If you want to export albums, then export the albums. The same happens with iTunes. Export from the Library you get the lot. Want the organisation, export playlist by playlist.
Is there any way to share this archive with PCs using iPhoto?
No. iPhoto has no cross platform capability.
There are other cross platform apps. Microsoft's Expression (http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/overview.aspx?key=web) is one but there are others. Search on MacUpdate
Bearing in mind the use you have I really don't think that iPhoto is the correct application for your needs. You need a more robust and scalable application - perhaps even a media server.

  • Album Organization Advice (warning: I come from PC Land...)

OK. Trying to organize around 50K of images coming from a PC. I am almost positive that when I run a dupe delete routine I will be down to 25K or 20K.
Right now I am plunking through a "manual" import of all my PC folders with the attendant duplicates and the ridiculous dis-organization. This means that they come into iPhoto and the /individual/ photos need to be sorted. What I mean by this is that I am doing a TON of moving just to get the database in some kind of coherent order. This all needs to happen on some level before I can even think about naming the photos. Although I'm not sure I have wrapped my head around exactly why I should name the photos just yet. I know this is important so any advice is really welcome. I'll throw some questions out and I'm very much hoping someone can hit a couple back at me so I can get a little better over here.
    1. Is there a way to create a new Album? Is there a way to move a group of photos to a new Album - say select a group of images right click and say "Move to New Album"?
    2. Is there a way to "bulk name" or "bulk tag" a group of photos? Say if I want to "prepend" the prefix "Portfolio..." to a group of photos that are otherwise named "1234567.jpg" and I want them to say "Portfolio_1234567.jpg" so I can order them better.
Right now I have ten folders that have "Portfolio..._ at the beginning. Portfolio 1, Portfolio 2 etc, etc. I am currently putting all the photos that belong to each portfolio in the correct album. The problem is that in the Photos pane it is not showing my albums in alphabetical order so this organization is troublesome. If I find a group of photos and I want to move them to "Portfolio 3" I have to scroll through about forty or fifty Albums that are not in alphabetical order. I'm wondering if it makes more sense to drop all the photos into a "Portfolio" Album and to then name them - and somehow sort them - by the photo name...
    Any help? Please and thanks...

    File menu ==> new album
    and
File menu ==> new album from selection
for existing albums you can simply select photos and drag them to the album
Or just drag a folder from the finder to the album section of the source pane - this will import the photos and create an album

Sort of - under the photos menu ==> batch change
It probably is easier to rename photos prior to importing - name mangler - http://manytricks.com/namemangler/ - is a good choice for this

  • Album Organization

This forum is great - looking over previous questions and their answers have been really helpful. I would just like to ask a question about something that still confuses me. I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. On the PC, I organized the photos in folders and labeled the folders with the date and title of an album. For instance "2001-08-11 Drew's Wedding."
When I imported the files to iPhoto, iPhoto sorted them by year, but has since mixed all of those albums together. This gets more confusing when a particular album straddles two years. Is there a way to automatically create albums based on the folder within which the orginal photo resides? Or is this a manual process?
    Thanks in advance.

at the bottom left hand corner of the window you'll see a little calendar icon. Click on it and you can select pics on a month by month basis. You can then create month by month albums very quickly.
Also check out using Keywords for making Smart albums - they really are very powerful.
All of this is done in the iPhoto Window, do not think of re-arranging folders in the iPhoto Library Folder. Remember: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.

  • Retreiving album organization

I reccently bought a new computer and the photos from Photoshop Elements 8 were transfered over, but not the albums. Is there any way to get the albums back with all my organization?

You could manually copy the preferences & application support from the old  machine to the new.
Loactions are similar for mac & PC Phothsop or Elements
    /Users/(YOURNAME)/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings/

  • IPhoto - Album organization

    Hello!
I currently have about 30 folders inside the Album section of my iPhoto that I would like to alphabetize so there's some organization.  I haven't been able to find anything of any use online.  Does anyone know how to rearrange the folders so they are organized for ease of use?

Make sure you're Control (right) - clicking on the album icon so you get this contextual menu:

  • Chronological Album Organization

I like to file all my music alphabetically by artist. However, when I do that, itunes will then organize the albums of a given artist in alphabetical order. Is there a way I can continue to organize by artist, but have the albums of that given artist in order of release date?

I already have them sorted that way, but itunes took
a few random albums and threw them at the end of my
library. I found that unchecking " part of a
compolation" helped with some, and others I had to
use various Artists in the "artist Field", while on
or two, I'm still at a loss.
Keep experimenting. There's clearly a reason things are getting organized the way they are. You just need to figure out what field iTunes is using to sort things.
Alos, now that I have itunes the way I like it,
When I sync my ipod the albums are still listed
aphabetically under the artist heading. Any
    thoughts?
It appears that the only way to do a non-standard sort on the iPod is by setting up a playlist. That will be sorted the way it is on iTunes - but of course playlists only include songs, no album or artist breakdown. As soon as the iPod does its own organization, e.g., by album or artist, it goes back to the default alphabetization.
Perhaps someday all those fancy new sort fields will be available on the iPod as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case today - at least on my Nano.
hanks; you've been a great help
    You're welcome.

  • Album organization/source list question

I'm a new iPhoto user and can be somewhat 'precise' about the organization of some things. In iPhoto 4 help it tells me that I can create a new folder in the source list and that the option to do so is under the file menu. I don't see that option and would like to create folders to organize albums. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi, Jeff. It may be that you, like many other iPhoto 4 users including myself, have been inappropriately supplied (maybe by Apple's Software Update?) with the iPhoto Help file for iPhoto 5. Open iPhoto, then open iPhoto Help, and click on the "What's New in IPhoto" link. Is the blurb that appears entitled "What's new in iPhoto 5?" If so, your Help file refers to a number of features that you won't find in iPhoto 4, because they don't exist in it. One of those is the ability to organize your albums in folders. Forget it — you can't do that in iP4.
There have been quite a few posts here from people who have the wrong iPhoto Help file, and to the best of my knowledge, no one has yet figured out how it happened.

  • Images on iPad started to mix album's pages order since last sync, the names order are correct I've tried to erase and put back album's but got worse because it failed to write some. I would like to avoid to ripristinate the iPad.

ciao, I've got some problema with my Image reader app. Since last sync it started to mix pages order, pages that are correctly nominated and were dispalyed in the correct order since the last sync.  unfortunatelly I haven't a backup and I would like to avoid to ripristinate it as I would loose my App documents. I have already tried several time to erase all my albums and putting back, but it got worse and it fails to copy some albums. What can i do?

Since your intention was to sell legit software, I'm sorry that you were as much a victim as your buyers were.  I don't know what else you could do except report it as others have suggested and pay your customers back.  Companies like Adobe don't have the resources to follow up on every individual case of piracy, but they should be interested in tracking down the sources of the big professional counterfeiting rings.  Judging from your description of the packages you sold and the cost of producing such packages, I assume they come from such a source.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I'm from Seattle, so I didn't really think twice when the seller told me their source was a person who worked at Microsoft and had access to the "Microsoft store" (which is somewhat infamous here because of how cheap you can get software for if you have access).
I don't get the connection - you were selling Adobe software, not Microsoft software.

  • Photos are showing up in Places and not in my albums, organization.

I have the 3GS. I recently upgraded to the new software with the 4.0. It's really cool so far, except the fact that it took some of my photos out of already organized "albums" and put them into "places". I like the fact that they are recognized in the places section/tab. But I also would like to keep them in the album itself so I don't have to go searching for a specific picture that I know I have on the phone but can't find. It's just kinda a pain in the butt cause now my pictures are kinda all over my phone between "albums" and "places". And some of the places location are really off by saying some were taken in a different town when they weren't. Is there any way to reorganize them.

The photo streams are not available at the icloud.com site. The are only available on mobile devices or Macs with iCloud capatible iPhoto.  If you create shared photo streams they will be online but at their specifie URL and not at icloud.com.

  • How do you avoid gaps in mix albums?

When I try to put a mix cd on my iPod, during playback there is a gap between the tracks. I want to avoid the gaps but I don't want to 'join cd tracks' because then it just installs it as one long tack. Any ideas?

Good luck... I've tried too many different encoders/rippers claiming to find and remove leading and trailing blanks. And so far Itunes is the best.
