Help creating a relational database table
Hi,
I need help creating a relational database data. I am suppose to enter the following information in the workstation:
CREATE TABLE patient (
MedRecNo number (4),
LName varchar2 (15),
FNAME varchar2 (15),
MInitial varchar2 (1),
BDate date,
Sex varchar2 (1));
3. Query (using the syntax below) the database to ensure that you have created the table:
SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES;
I entered the information in the workstation but I have no idea what to do with this command-------->SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES;
Pleaaaassssse help me.
Thanks in advance,
TanyaThanks for responding so quickly. I'm sorry if I said
it wrong, this is completely new to me. This is what
I am suppose to do:
Directions:
1. Login to the DVOLUSER (select this from the
Connection Identifier drop down window) Oracle
instance using the username and password provided to
you.
2. Use the following SQL syntax to create the patient
table in the database:
CREATE TABLE patient (
MedRecNo number (4),
LName varchar2 (15),
FNAME varchar2 (15),
MInitial varchar2 (1),
BDate date,
Sex varchar2 (1));
3. Query (using the syntax below) the database to
ensure that you have created the table:
SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES;ETA: I also do not know how to enter this into the data base. I mean I enter the following information into the database and then I click execute but once I do that, what do I do with the SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES; -
Load XML data from UNIX Server Directly into Relational Database Tables
Is there a way I can load data from an XML File into Oracle Tables , without having the Input XML file in some Oracle Server Directory. My XML File resides on UNIX Application server. And I need to directly load the data into Database tables. Without loading them into the Database Directory.
Also I am looking for a solution that would not load my Database much and effect other running processes. Can it be done using SQL Loader ?
Oracle Database Version is : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit ProductionThanks for your reply ,
Please would you quote an Example about : 'Load the file into that table using SQL*Loader' (From UNIX Server) Or instance of some existing thread that relates to my situation.
The Size of the File would be about 3 GB. For a similar requirement one of my peers Code which used XMLTABLE and XPATH Approach consumed a lot of resources while running and caused the other Database Applications to slow down. Thus those guys have come up with an approach to :
Parse XML using a C Code using some STRING Functions => For a CSV or Fixed width .dat file and then use SQL Loader to just load the file into Tables.
This approach is efficient in terms of Resources and Time(Takes 5 mins). But I am not confident about parsing XML based on String based C Functions.
Please comment about this approach . Also if possible Suggest the best efficient way of doing this. -

Mapping XML data to relational database tables
I'm writing an application that has two parts: the client part generates XML documents and sends them across the network to a server part, which parses the XML, maps the XML to various RDBMS tables and stores the data in the RDBMS.
I've got everything working using SAX, but now any change I make to the XML schema and/or the RDBMS table structures in the future will mean some serious code changes.
Has anyone worked with this scenario and developed a better method of handling this mapping? All the previous efforts in this area seem to be RDBMS to XML, which is of no use to me.
If you had to do this this, how would you approach it? I'm using XML for ease of reading, as the client has code to allow for documents to be written to the disk if no connection to the server is available, and the server does the same if no database connection is available.
Thanks in advance ...
cheers,
markOK, to reply to my own posting for future reference, I've found an open source project called Osage at http://sourceforge.net that does what I need. I'm looking at it now and can't say if it's everything I want, but it seems likely to fit the bil.

Populating 2dimentional array from database table
Hi,
I have created two dimentional array
TYPE type_DIR IS TABLE OF site_direction.site_direction_id%TYPE INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
TYPE type_DIR_LAN IS TABLE OF type_DIR INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
var_DIR_LAN type_DIR_LAN;I have to populate data into this from a relational database tables "site_direction" and "site_lanes".
I'm using cursors like below.
CURSOR lane_numbers(c_site_id NUMBER, c_direction_id NUMBER) IS
SELECT site_lane_id
FROM site_lanes
JOIN report_parameters
ON site_lane_id = report_parameter_value
WHERE site_lanes.site_id = c_site_id
AND site_lanes.site_direction_id = c_direction_id
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_id = in_report_parameter_id
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_group = 'LANE'
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_name = 'LANE'
ORDER BY site_lane_id;
CURSOR direction_id(c_site_id NUMBER) IS
SELECT site_direction_id
FROM site_direction
JOIN sites
ON site_direction.site_id = c_site_id
JOIN report_parameters
ON site_direction.site_id = report_parameter_value
WHERE report_parameters.report_parameter_id = in_report_parameter_id
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_group = 'SITE'
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_name = 'SITE_ID'
ORDER BY site_direction_id; How could I do that?
Once I got populated two dimentional array with value, how could I return that values?
Do I need one more 2 dimentional array to return or could I use sys_refcursor?
Thanks.Return the values to what? Using what version of what software?
Ideally you are using those cursors, though I can't imagine why they are necessary, to BULK COLLECT into the array. If so then just pass the array as a parameter.
If passing back to an external program like JAVA or .NET then a REF CURSOR would be appropriate. -
Urgent: Customized Routine Problem: Not updating related databse tables.
Hi Gurus,
We made some changes in customized routine of pricing condition type.
Requirement :
"A" condition type which is appearing in pricing of sales order which we want to be split into Billing document i.e.in Invoice. The amount should split as per the invoiced quantity,. Earlier it was redeterminig from condition master"
Logic in routine:
"we are checking respective sales order for Invoice. From Sales order value we are finding out document condition number in VBAK table. then in KONV table for respective value we are checking "A" condition type is available or not.
If it is available we are just copying the value and depending upon the Invoiced qty, We are passing to the same condition type.
Problem:
Value is appearing in Invoice document but it is not updating the related database tables e.g. KONV for(Invoice document condition No.)Hi Gurus,

Inheritance in a Relational Database
Hi
Now I've some problem in mapping my class hierarchy in relational database table.
How to express inheritance relationship in database?
Any advice appreciated
victorHI Victor,
This could depend on what you are inheriting. If you have a single class inheriting from an abstract super class then I would just have a single table in the database for the sub class.
If your subclasses only override the super class methods and do not add any fields (data attributes) then you should just have a database table for your superclass.
If your sub classes have additional fields that do not exist in the super class then you should have one table for your super class, and a table for any sub classes which have additional data attributes. The super class table will have a column which holds a primary key, and each sub class table will have a column holding a foreign key which is the link to the super class table.

"Economizing" in a list of maps with identical keys (like a database table)
Hi there!:
I've been checking this forum for information about something like what I state in the title of this message, but haven't found such a specific case. I'm commenting my doubt below.
I'm working with a list of maps whose keys are exactly the same in all them (they're of type String). Indeed it could be considered an extrapolation of a database table: The list contains maps which act as rows, and every map contains keys and values which represent column names and values.
However, this means to repeat the same key values on every map and this spends memory. Right, maybe it's not such a big spent, but since the list can contains thousands of maps, I think that it would be better to choose a more "economical" way to achieve the same result.
I had thought about building a class which stored everything as a list of lists and, internally, it mapped that String keys with the corresponding Integer indexes of every list. But then I realized that maybe I was re-inventing the wheel, because it's very probable that someone has already made that. Maybe is there a class on the Core API which allows that?
Thank you very much for your help.Well, after re-reading the Java tutorial which is located in the Sun website I've came to a conclusion which I should have before, when I thought about using StringBuffers as keys of the maps instead of Strings.
I'm so used to build Strings using literals instead of the "new String ()" constructor (just as everyone) that I had forgotten that, as it happens with any kind of object but not the primary data types, Strings are not passed to the methods by value, but by reference. The fact of them being immutable made me think that they were passed by value.
Apart of that, my problem also was that using literals I was creating different String objects every time, despite the fact that they were equal about their content (making 400 different keys called "name" for example)
In other words, I was doing something like this:
// It makes a list of maps which will contain maps of boy's personal data (as if they were "rows" in a table).
List <Map <String, Object>> listData = new ArrayList <Map <String, Object>> (listBoy.size ());
// It loops over a list of Boy objects, obtained using EJB.
for (Boy boy : listBoy) {
// It makes a new map containing only the information which I'm interested on from the Boy object.
Map <String, Object> map = new HashMap <String, Object> (2);
map.put ("name", boy.getName ());
map.put ("surname", boy.getSurname ());
// It adds the map to the list of data.
listData.add (map);
}Well, the "problem" here (being too demanding, but I'm :P ) is that I was adding all the time new Strings objects as keys in every map. The key "name" in the first map was different from "name" in the second one and so on.
I guess that my knowledge got messed at certain point and thought that it was impossible to use exactly the same String object in different maps (the reference, not the same value!). Thus, my idea of using StringBuffers instead.
But thinking about it carefully, Why not to do this?:
List <Map <String, Object>> listData = new ArrayList <Map <String, Object>> (listBoy.size ());
// It makes the necessary String keys previously, instead of using literals on every loop later.
String name = "name";
String surname = "surname";
for (Boy boy : listBoy) {
// It uses references (pointers) to the same String keys, instead of new ones every time.
Map <String, Object> map = new HashMap <String, Object> (2);
map.put (name, boy.getName ());
map.put (surname, boy.getSurname ());
listData.add (map);
}Unfortunately, the "hasCode" method on String is overloaded and instead of returning the typical hash code based on the single ID of the object in memory, it returns one based on its content. That way I can't make sure that the "name" key in one map refers to the same object in memory than another one. I know, I know. The common sense and the Java documentation confirm that, but had loved having an empiric way to demonstrate it.
I guess that using "javap" and disassembling the generated bytecode is the only way to make sure that it's that way.
I believe that it's solved now :) (if no one tells me the contrary). I still am mad at myself for thinking that Strings were passed by value. Thinking about it now it had no sense!
dannyyates: It's curious because re-reading every answer I think that you maybe were pointing to this solution already. But the sentence "you put the +same+ string" was a little ambiguous for me and thought that you meant putting the same String as "putting the same text" (which I already was doing), not the same object reference (in other words, using a common variable). I wish we could have continued discussing that in depth. Thanks a lot for your help anyway :) . -
Looking for a value in a list stored in a database table field
Hello,
I have a field in a database table that contains a comma
separated list on numbers. In my CFQUERY I am attempting to extract
records from the database table where a parsed number is present in
the comma separated list. I have tried the code below, but it is
throwing an error.
variables.publicationID is the number that I am looking for
in the database table field.
publicationList is the name of the database table field
containing the comma separated list of numbers.
where <cfqueryparam value="#variables.publicationID#"
cfsqltype="cf_sql_integer"> in publicationList
Can anybody help?
Many thanks,
smnbinThe only way to do it with the data model you currently have
is as follows:
WHERE publicationList LIKE '#variables.publicationID#' OR
publicationList LIKE '#variables.publicationID#,%' OR
publicationList LIKE '%,#variables.publicationID#,%' OR
publicationList LIKE '%,#variables.publicationID#'
You need to check for 4 cases:
it's the only ID in the list
it's the first ID in the list
it's in the middle of the list
it's the last ID in the list.
The better solution would be to replace this comma-delimited
list with a mapping table, where each row in this mapping table
contains a reference to the main table as well as a single
publicationID. -
Insert XML file into Relational database model without using XMLTYPE tables
Dear all,
How can I store a known complex XML file into an existing relational database WITHOUT using xmltypes in the database ?
I read the article on DBMS_XMLSTORE. DBMS_XMLSTORE indeed partially bridges the gap between XML and RDBMS to a certain extent, namely for simply structured XML (canonical structure) and simple tables.
However, when the XML structure will become arbitrary and rapidly evolving, surely there must be a way to map XML to a relational model more flexibly.
We work in a java/Oracle10 environment that receives very large XML documents from an independent data management source. These files comply with an XML schema. That is all we know. Still, all these data must be inserted/updated daily in an existing relational model. Quite an assignment isn't it ?
The database does and will not contain XMLTYPES, only plain RDBMS tables.
Are you aware of a framework/product or tool to do what DBMS_XMLSTORE does but with any format of XML file ? If not, I am doomed.
Constraints : Input via XML files defined by third party
Storage : relational database model with hundreds of tables and thousands of existing queries that can not be touched. The model must not be altered.
Target : get this XML into the database on a daily basis via an automated process.
Cheers.
Luc.Luc,
your Doomed !
If you would try something like DBMS_XMLSTORE, you probably would be into serious performance problems in your case, very fast, and it would be very difficult to manage.
If you would use a little bit of XMLType stuff, you would be able to shred the data into the relational model very fast and controlable. Take it from me, I am one of those old geezers like Mr. Tom Kyte way beyond 40 years (still joking). No seriously. I started out as a classical PL/SQL, Forms Guy that switched after two years to become a "DBA 1.0" and Mr Codd and Mr Date were for years my biggest hero's. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Tom Kyte for all his efforts for bringing the concepts manual into the development world. Just to name some off the names that influenced me. But you will have to work with UNSTRUCTURED data (as Mr Date would call it). 80% of the data out there exists off it. Stuff like XMLTABLE and XML VIEWs bridge the gap between that unstructured world and the relational world. It is very doable to drag and drop an XML file into the XMLDB database into a XMLtype table and or for instance via FTP. From that point on it is in the database. From there you could move into relational tables via XMLTABLE methods or XML Views.
You could see the described method as a filtering option so XML can be transformed into relational data. If you don't want any XML in your current database, then create an small Oracle database with XML DB installed (if doable 11.1.0.7 regarding the best performance --> all the new fast optimizer stuff etc). Use that database as a staging area that does all the XML shredding for you into relational components and ship the end result via database links and or materialized views or other probably known methodes into your relational database that isn't allowed to have XMLType.
This way you would keep your realtional Oracle database clean and have the Oracle XML DB staging database do all the filtering and shredding into relational components.
Throwing the XML DB option out off the window beforehand would be like replacing your Mercedes with a bicycle. With both you will be able to travel the distance from Paris to Rome, but it will take you a hell of lot longer.

List Creation From Database Table
I have a form that has two data blocks based on database tables:
Block #1 = ORDER_LINE
Block #2 = ORDER_CODE
The ORDER_LINE block has an item in it that corresponds to an item in the ORDER_CODE block. I want to create a TLIST for this item in the ORDER_LINE block that populates the list from the values for the corresponding item in the ORDER_CODE block. I know that I can use the POPULATE_LIST built in and need a record group, etc, but I have not been able to make any of this work. Can anyone provide good instructions on how to do this? I find the On Line Help within Forms to be totally useless.

List Database Table Infoprovider, InfoObject, Flag Authorization Relevant
Dear Expert,
Im working with SAP BI 2004s user management & authorization. I have several objects that Ill have check. I dont like check one by one, I like to check for the SE16 transaction, for this reason, I need to know what is the database table have content Infoprovider by InfoObject (Characteristics) which each have the flag authorization relevant.
Moreover, in the same idea, which database has content Queries by Infoprovider which authorization variable?
Thank for all,
LuisFor your first question:
In addition to be above mentioned table, RSDCUBEIOBJ will give the information about Infoprovider and all the Infoobjects within this infoprovider.
1. Find all the authorization relevant Infoobjects from RSDCHA table and copy them.
2. In the table RSDCUBEIOBJ, paste all the Infoobjects obtained from 1 in the field "Infoobject". The result will be list of Infocubes and their corresponding authorization relevant Infoobjects.
