Monitor goes into Standby for no apparent reason

System Spec:
AMD 2800+ CPU
MSI KT6V LSR A DDR 400 Motherboard
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon Sapphire 9600XT 256MB DDR AGP
Windows XP SP2
During normal PC use, the system switches to standby mode for no apparent reason.  The leds and fans are still running on the PC.
The BIOS settings for power save are switched off.
There is no pattern, sometimes it happens quickly after boot and sometimes it takes a while.
Can anyone suggest what is wrong?

Take a look at this thread, I to had the same problem with the monitor turning off but the computer continue to run. Solved it by the introduction of the Enermax from using the ThermalTake that had 18A on the +12V rail. Hope it helps.

  • HP w/1907 monitor will go blank for no apparent reason. Turning it off/on repaetedly doesn't help

My HP w/1907 will go blank for no reason.  I have to turn it off/on repeatedly (6-7 times) to get it to stay on.  HELP!!!  I have tried to reinstall drivers only to get a error message sayingthat an the download access is denied.

    Hello sharon3,
What monitor are you using and how are you connected to the computer (e.g. vga, dvi, etc)? The problem could be:
    1. Drivers
    2. Monitor Hardware
    3. Cables
We have to start ruling things out to determine where the problem is. Try connecting this monitor to another computer or another monitor to your computer to see if the problem continues to happen. Since we are on the subject of your computer what make and model system are we using and what operating system?

  • Screen goes out sometimes for no apparent reason

Sometimes when I open my MacBook when it is in sleep mode, it comes on but the screen is dark. If I look at it from the side I can barely see my screensaver picture and desktop items. It seems like it's working normally, but I can't see anything. The brightness key (F2) doesn't do anything. I have to turn it off and on again.
This is annoying, but it's also a problem because of something else I want to ask about. I have a huge music library, which I keep on an external hard drive that I normally leave connected to the computer. If I have this screen problem, when I turn it off and on, it tells me I didn't disconnect the hard drive properly. (I can't eject it if I can't see the screen.) Once that happens, it seems like the only way I can get the hard drive to work again is to connect it to a PC -- NOT a Mac. We have a Mac desktop in the house, but it still shows it as unusable if I connect it to that Mac. But if I take it into work and connect it to a PC, it's fine and then it will work again on the Mac. This is frustrating as I need to do this about once a month for one reason or another. Is there any easier way to get the external hard drive working? Thanks for answering either of these questions.

If you cant use the F2 button, I'd suggest trying your very best to look at the screen from an angle, go into system preferences, (preferably from your dock as its a bigger icon to click) and you can adjust the brightness from there, this will save you from having to turn your MacBook off and on again and prevents corruption of your external drive.
System Preferences > Hardware Section > Displays > Brightness Bar
I'd suggest calling apple, best to be the nearest store to you.
    Hope this helps, regards.

  • Printer goes off-line for no apparent reason

<Repeat posting - I couldn't find "post new topic" links when I first put it up over the weekend - administrators please remove my post at message ID=8913195>
For about five days I have not been able to print over a home network from either an iMac (PowerMac G5, or an Intel-based MacBook Pro. My wife's WinXP PC prints no problem.
The first few times I tried, the printer progress bar would just hang at 98% complete, but now when I clear stalled jobs and try to print a new one, the printer goes offline within a couple of seconds. Clicking on "Start jobs" does no good, it just shuts off again.
I have installed security updates recently, but don't remember exactly if this was done since I last printed successfully. Can anyone tell me if the updates could be screwing with my printer connection and/or is there another explanation?
    Hardware and system information:
    1) Both Macs are running OS10.4.11 and both the PPC and the Intel machine behave the same.
    2) Both Macs are using their AirPorts to connect to the router, but when I rebooted I shut off AirPort and use ethernet for the iMac, it still goes offline as soon as I try to print.
    3) The router is an Actiontec MI424WR (from Verizon). I read some complaints about this before getting it in March, but haven't had any connection problems which I can attribute to the router.
    4) Both Macs ping the printer no problem. (Printer is configured with a static IP, and Boot IP and DHCP are turned off to keep from confusing the slow-witted Windows cousin.) System Profiler knows the printer is there (information displayed in System Profiler):
    Magicolor DL2430:
    Status: Idle
    Print Server: Local
    Driver Version: 1.3.0
    Default: Yes
    URI: lpd:///
PPD: KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2430 DL
    PPD File Version: 1.3.0
    PostScript Version:
    5) I don't regularly share files between PowerBook and iMac, so I doubt this is due to a real security issue.

FYI - If you read through the details about troubleshooting the network, you will realize that this is not the "exact same problem" since your printer isn't recognized. Since you can print a couple of pages, I doubt it's a driver or the network, but in getting ready to call customer service at Canon, you might want to try a few of these tests:
    1) Launch System Profiler: click on the blue Apple icon in the top left corner and select "About this Mac" and then click on "More Info..." (lower button).
In the left-hand column of the System Profiler, toward the end of the Hardware list, select Printers. This should give you details of any recognized printer hardware. If it's there, the problem isn't a connection, so it ought to be due to printer setup or configuration.
(You can highlight and copy the information displayed, so you might want to save this in a text file and/or print it out. Tech support people can be remarkably resistant to recognizing information which tells them that you don't need to waste time making sure it's plugged in, checking your cables, etc.)
    2) Get your printer user manual and see how to set the network settings. Try what I did - set the IP address to a fixed number (e.g. 192.168.1.199) instead of using DHCP to dynamically reassign an IP # after reboot. Write this number down and remember it.
    3) Reboot your computer and router (some of this may be unnecessary, but we mere mortals never know which are required to get network recognition and which aren't) Now check your printing with a document with little content but which runs over 3-4 pages.
    4) Go to your Applications directory in a Finder panel and open the Utilities folder, then launch Terminal. At the prompt type:
    ping <IP number, i.e. 192.168.1.199 if that's what you set it at>
If you get a series of responses at ~ 1 sec intervals ("64 bytes from IP address..."), this confirms hardware and network connections are OK, and you should be looking at configuaration problems.
    5) Even though it's getting to seem like the sound of one hand clapping, keep checking back here. Also, try Canon if they don't want $70 an hour to tell you "Oh, we don't know much about Macs!) There may be one or two non Mac-allergic folks on their staff.
    Good luck!

  • ITunes won't import/play certain songs for no apparent reason

I have certain songs that will not play or import into iTunes for no apparent reason. I've been able to play them in QuickTime, Zune and Windows Media Player but for some reason iTunes won't even acknowledge them. When I click on the MP3 file iTunes will load up but not do anything. I've tried everything and can't figure out the issue.
I had been able to upload the songs to iTunes in the past as well with no issues until one day iTunes just decided they didn't exist anymore.
I'm really at wits end right now because i'd like to upload these songs to my iPod but can't do that now. What could the problem be?

It's probably a problem with the ID tags associated with the files. You can run this free program to fix the tags and see if that makes the tracks usable:

It seems to be linked to the sound being on. When I mute the thing, it doesn't do it. When I plug headphones into it, it does it over the headphones.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

I have a  iPad, 32g, and for no apparent reason, the screen goes black and whatever app I am using is closed on me. It seems to be happening more and more frequently, especially when loading apps, or trying to watch a YouTube video. I try to open safari or youtube again and it will often crash several times before it may or may not decide to load for me. It is extremely annoying and getting to the point where I can not use it

Standard troubleshooting steps in order are as follows:
Power the iPad off and on.
An iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPad with iTunes from your iPad's backup.
Restore your iPad with iTunes as a new iPad or not from your iPad's backup.
If no change after the last step, your iPad has a hardware problem.

i have a motion file of a countdown clock, downloaded from Industrial Revolution and adapted for my own use.
It went offline yesterday, and I figured I had done something silly in error without knowing. This morning it has just done it again twice - for no apparent reason.
I imported it into my project via the browser, dropped in the timeline, rendered, all smiles. Then within a few minutes a alert appears telling me its gone offline.
    Any ideas?

  • Crashing with Kernel Panics for no apparent reason - HELP!!

Hello - new to this forum, and I hope someone can help me resolve a problem I've been recently having with my PowerMac G5.
It all started when I installed some an additional 2GB of RAM (bought from Crucial, which is always very good and reliable) to add to my existing 2GB of Apple RAM, and soon afterwards, found the Mac crashing with the 'grey veil of death' happening quite a lot.
I ran Memtest several times, which showed n problem with the RAM, but I removed it anyway, to see if it was that which was causing it, and the Mac still keeps crashing with either a grey veil of death, or just a total freezeup, requiring a hard-reboot.
I have tried everything - removing all attached devices, resetting the PRAM, pressing the little reset button on the logic board, removing the battery and unplugging the Mac for a day, swapping the Apple RAM (which has always been fine) into different slots.... nothing seems to work.
At the weekend, the Mac wouldn't even boot up, and kept turning itself off during startup after in the grey screen with the Apple logo and spinning radar-wheel.
I got it to boot up OK from an external firewire drive I have, but Disk Utility said it couldn't fix the drive and Diskwarrior also said it was irreparable.
I did manage to get Techtool to repair it though, which took about 9 hours but it did successfully rebuild the volume structure and the Mac would then boot up fine and all seemed ok, but it still crashes randomly and for no apparent reason.
I never did put the new RAM back into the machine so it's all as it was before all this trouble started, and I have no devices attached to the Mac anymore, except the original Apple keyboard and mouse (which I don't normally use, but my wireless one doesn't let me start up from an external drive or reset PRAM or anything...).
I'm going mad trying to figure out what is wrong with this thing, and I have just read how to get a crash-report (although it means nothing to me), so am posting it here.. I hope that's OK....
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
    Thanks
    Matt

The line which starts "BSD process name corresponding to current thread...." says something different in most of the panic logs, so it doesn't seem to be constantly mentioning one app or anything....
Does any of this make sense to anyone?!

  • My 3050 J610 printer goes into standby or sleep mode and then I cannot print docs to it wirelessly

Everytime I do not print something for a few hours, my printer goes into standby or sleep mode.  When it does this, it cannot be used to print from my laptop or android to it.  Is there a way to set this up so that it doesn't "go to sleep" and it is always available to me to print with.  I like the printer, but it seems kind of off that you cannot print on it wirelessly and it is considered a WIRELESS printer.  That's the only reason I bought it and now I can't even use it without walking downstairs and turning the printer back on again.  If I wanted to do that every time I would just print from my main computer!
    Thanks,
    Ashley

Ok, I know this thread is a little old, but it would not allow me to start a new one, since I am new. I am having the same issues with my 3050 J610 as everyone else. It makes you think there is a wireless connection problem, but that is not the case. The printer goes into a standby mode and there is no way to bring it out of it, unless you cycle the printer. The panel buttons will still work, you just lose the ability to print wirelessly.
I have had my 3050 J610 in two different rooms, master bedroom and basement office. Both areas work well when it is connected and awake. After a while of inactivity, it goes into standby mode and cannot print wirelessly. Here are steps I have taken so far:
When the printer goes into standby and will not print wirelessly, I have check to make sure there is still a connection between the router and the printer - There is
I have set a static Id for the printer at .210
Cycling the printer brings the connection back instantly.
The front panel buttons work just fine when it does not have connectivity
In the basement, the machine has excellent signal and connection.
I have checked the recommendations in this thread, and like others, there are no options under the advanced tab of the maintenance page. The problem is a standby or sleep issue. When this arises, it has connection to the router, but the wireless computer does not have connection to the machine. I know when it was in the bedroom, the light would blink 3 or 4 times now and then throughout the night. We need a way to turn off the standby, or bring the machine out of standby mode. It is not an issue of the router, channel, interference, or software. It is the sole issue of standby or sleep modes. I have been pulling my hair out for almost two years over this issue. I swore I would not buy another HP product after the problems I had with a printer and laptop. But I thought I would give HP another chance.

  • Qosmio G20 wakes from hibernation for no apparent reason

    Greetings All,
For a while now I have noticed that my Qosmio G20 tends to wake from hibernation at random times for no apparent reason. When I place it into hibernation overnight it successfully transitions into a hibernation state but (usually) after a few hours suddenly wakes from said state for no reason.
Obviously this isn't a critical issue but I do prefer to hibernate whenever practicable (as opposed to standby) and it is rather annoying to awoken at 4:00am by the Qosmio's triumphant burst of music (still it's better than windows 'ta da!' :P)
    Any ideas?
    Kindest,
    Lee.

There is indeed such an option available on screen 1 of the BIOS setup, unfortunately it is presently set as disabled so I guess that isn't the cause of my woes. :(
Thanks for replying though, always nice to learn a new thing. ;)
    Lee.

  • Iphone 5c makes sound for no apparent reason

I am posting this on behalf of a friend. She just got a brand new iPhone 5C and she loves it, but at random times throughout the day, it plays a sound for no apparent reason. There is no notification, no email, no messages, no alarm... we've been through all the sounds and notification settings. We did identify the sound as "Popcorn", but nothing she on her phone that we can find actually uses that sound. It is driving her crazy. She has very few apps on this phone - Find My iPhone, Allrecipes, AskMD, Pandora, 70's Radio and MapMyWalk. We went into each of these apps to find sound settings and, if they had one, we turned it off. Her phone is possessed! Please help us find the source, as we are going crazy.

Try resetting your phone. Press and hold down both the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears then let go. You won't lose any data.
There are a number of things you can check to improve battery performance in this article. https://www.apple.com/ca/batteries/maximizing-performance/#ios
If none of the above help then the next step would be to Restore. Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings This will erase everything on your phone so back up your data first.

  • Ipod freezing and restoring for no apparent reason

sometimes my ipod just stops what music it's playing and for no apparent reason ,goes back to the homescreen. when i update the ipod, all the play counts from before the "crash" (not really a crash, but that's the term i'll use) are wiped clean, as if i never played them. What's going on?
