Monitor: How come there is a dark spot on the screen?

When I turn on my HP touchsmart 610 monitor there is almost like a shadow on the screen. What is the cause of this?

I'm not quite sure what it is you're seeing, but if it's a Terminal window (click on the window and see if you see the "Terminal" menu at the very top left of the screen) you can close it just like any other application - go to the Terminal menu and click "Quit Terminal".
If that's not it, it's possible you're seeing a Voiceover border - go to System Preferences, Universal Access, click Voiceover and turn it off if it's on.

Weird things happen at factories. After onboxing my new phone I took the plastic off and it had a small fingerprint on the side. I didn't even touch the phone.

On an envelope, there's not supposed to be. The US Postal Serveice prefers no punctuation, which can interfere with machine sorters. USPS Address Format

  • Series of Dark Spots at the Screen Bottom

    Hi all,
Just purchased my Macbook Pro 15" w/ Anti-Glare LCD screen. This is the 4th Mac I've owned over the years so I'm familiar with them. The second time I went to use it, I noticed a series of dark spots positioned horizontally at the bottom of the screen. Each one is absolutely even in shape, size and spacing and it looks as though each spot fans out into the top of the screen, gradually decreasing in intensity.
Unless a person has a white background or black background towards the bottom of the screen, it's not as visible but it is definitely there, it looks funny and I'm wondering if that's just the way it is or is this a defect?
    Thanks,
    -Evan

I have spots at the bottom and left side of my LCD. First appeared to look as the screen was dirty (and as mentioned by another post, only really visible on light or white background). They are not the same size. Took it to Apple Authorized repair, tech said it looked like the liquid (of LCD) was "leaking." Said he needed to send photo to Apple, Apple denied repair/replacement citing abuse / environmental (excessive heat-cold). Needless to say I am not a happy camper, my MBP is a very pampered laptop, no abuse or exposure to cold/heat extremes. Tech said this could eventually "creep" across screen. On top of that, who wants a computer with a "defective" screen? I have appealed to Apple to reconsider their denial; will post here when I hear back.

  • How come there is no publishing authority on the internet?

'''Locked by a moderator with input from an admin. This is a Firefox Support forum, not a place to vent. Please find another forum to post this in.
I can go to millions of sites that have illegal and offensive content on the internet.
I feel betrayed as someone who has spent thousands of dollars on a computer and 1000s of hours working on my computer and browsing the internet because there does not exist security measures to keep dangerous content and people from providing content that I would otherwise object to on my computer.
Thus I do not understand why companies like microsoft who hold a huge share of computer industry do not take responsibility for the safety of its customers. Like wise I am sceptical of companies like google who claim to be a reputable company/corporation however they index and provide links to all these illegal sites I am talking about.
I am aware of the existence of content filters however I don't believe that having to pay for my security after I have shelled out thousands of dollars for a computer supposedly to be an expression of modern technology that does not have the capacity to maintain decency and appropriateness.
If websites were to be subject to censorship it would make the internet more useful and ultimately safe - it would be a simple task to employ a team of people to maintain a database of active websites and to review and censor material based on its content. This would make the internet much more viable as a universal tool for modern day business and communication because illegal and deviant material would not be able to be accessed beyond the regulations that need to be developed.
Google is a perfect example of indexing gone wrong - there is no censorship - any review of websites is pointless because you can toggle access easily through the browser. I believe that internet browsers should be regulated to censor the material accessed. I believe as a user that I have the right not to be subjected to the abuses of evil and degenerate people on the internet. I finally conclude that access to such disgusting content should be available through hacking out a programs default security and voiding of rights of that user to any protection from dangerous material.
I believe the internet should be censored because there is so much non-constructive material on the internet and it serves as a distraction and detriment to a person's well being.
A user has the right to their own security and dignity - such development would be worthwhile because it will help to save countless people who would otherwise have to go through disturbing experineces such as I have with internet browsers...
    Thanks for your time :)
    indexing and publishing !!!

How is that related to Firefox support?
Sorry, this is not a forum for entertaining a discussion of what is and isn't right about the internet. The tools for blocking objectionable content are out there, it is up to the individual user to use those tools, or not. Bottom line is freedom of choice, and this country defends that for all citizens - pervs included.

    ??????????

    Find a competent repair shop.
There are NO legitimate sources for iPhone parts.
Unfortunately, since you opened it yourself, you are no longer eligible for the $199 out of warranty replacement from Apple.

  • Dark spot on the apple logo

there is a dark spot on the apple logo on my macbook pro. my screen is fine and i can see clearly. im not sure what to do? will this mean something worse is going to happen on the screen?

Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you. NOTE:  If you are out of warranty and purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.  They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).  If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.

  • Two black spot in the screen

I have a Ipod video 30g. It has only 2 weeks old. I was very happy but now it does not turn on anymore. And there is 2 black spot on the screen. I do not know what to do, and I cannot talk to anyone. This website is very confusing.
Can anyone help me? I am in Brazil Sao Paulo.

    Thanks,

  • It's some time the monitor of my MacBook Pro presents dark zones at the bottom. I suppose it depends on the lamps. Do you confirm? Is there anything I should do before calling for assistance?

You can run the Apple Hardware Test.
I agree with Carolyn. If that doesn't show anything, Apple has more comprehensive tests. Call an Apple Store and make an appointment with the "genius" bar (free). I don't think an SMCReset is going to help in this situation, but if it was my Mac, I'd try it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost

  • How do I get rid of an  oval dark spot showing on screen?

A dark sport showed up in the upper right hand corner, but does not move when I rotate the unit. It seems to be getting larger. How do I get rid of it.

If I understand the concept, the screen shot will show the spot when the screen is rotated in the same location as on the screen in normal vertical position. On mine the spot does not show on the screen shot, but remains in the same location (upper right hand corner) at all times.
Are you saying the screen is going bad and needs to be replaced?

  • HT204053 how come there is another apple id appears when im about to update the applications that i have downloaded?

how come there is another apple id appears when im about to update the applications that i have downloaded?

When a stranger's Apple ID appears on your Mac in conjunction with an update for an app that you have never installed, you have a pirated app on your Mac. The pirated app is not the app calling for the update. This pirated app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from usually a free app, often Angry Birds or Twitter, acquired by the person whose Apple ID you see.
You may not have realized that it was a pirated app when you installed it. You may have believed that it was a trail version or a "free" version.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
    Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.
