Monitor Oracle instance in Enterprise Manger

Hello,
My Oracle database server is runing on Windows system. The version is Oracle 10.2.0.4 standard edition. I tried to set up the email alert when the database, listener goes down in Enterprise Manger.
The problem is I cannot receive the alerts which I am supposed to receive when the database and listener are down However, I can get these alerts immediately when I bring up the database. That does not make sense to me. Please help and let me know how I can get the alert when these critcal services are down from Enterprise Manger.
Thanks!

Need to check does your agent uploading XML files? some cases it fails to upload then you need to upload manually
emctl upload agentor reconfigure if any problem occurs still

  • Monitoring Oracle VM Without Enterprise Manager

    We're a small shop and EM is overkill for us.  We have 2 Oracle VM servers that we are about to put into production.  Each server will run one RAC 11g node.
    I come from a vSphere background where metrics and reporting / alerting is built into the console.  I've searched the internet high and dry and cannot seem to find any way to monitor these servers except for EM.
    Are there any other solutions in place?

    If you're using OVM 3.3.x and you already have Nagios monitoring/CheckMK in place, you can install the check_mk_agent on your OVS. Oracle VM Manager simply lacks those things.

  • Monitoring memory used by Oracle instance

    Hi,
    How can i check how much memory is being used and allocated by an Oracle instace? Is there any way to do?
    Ashish

    An Oracle instance is using SGA that is shared memory by all background processes and dedicated/shared server processes and PGA which is private memory used by each server process.
    For SGA you can use following queries:
    select * from v$sgastat
    In 10G, you can also use:
    select * from v$sgainfo;
    For PGA, you can use following query:
    select * from v$pgastat;

  • OEM 10.2.0.5 Errors Monitoring Oracle 11g on RHEL 5.3 64-bit

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup a grid control box to monitor two 11gR1 databases on a RAC cluster. We have Oracle CRS for the clustering software and we are using OEM GC 10.2.0.5. I have cloned 10.2.0.5 agents from the OMS install and the hosts show up in OEM.
    The listener shows as down in the EM console. The database shows down too with "Agent Connection to Instance" failed with ORA-12545. Connect failed because target host or object does not exist (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
    My emagemt_perl.trc has the following:
    has_metrics.pl: Wed Jan 27 23:38:01 2010: WARN: WARN:has::Common:: has::Common::hasGetSQLResults: Could not
    connect.
    I discovered the targets with the agent, when it was added to EM. I also set the dbsnmp password but I am still getting the error.
    Thanks for any ideas,
    Pedro B. Morales

    Hi Matt
    Till you get exact answer, try indirect approach. I did view page source and could not find the details in the source code. Then I clicked on image to show in new browser and thats when I got this link: You can dig into this imageRenderer.jsp file that can be found in one of the WAR files shown below. Look into EARs also that my have WARs with this jsp. Mostly there should be some sort of Servlet also to display the audit trail. I just checked from bpm/workspace Process Tracking Tab. I did not looked from EM Console tracking tabs though.
    beaHome\Oracle_SOA1\soa\applications\OracleBPMWorkspace.ear has a OracleBPMWorkspace.war file. See if this direction helps

  • Error when starting oracle instance

    Hi,
    today, after a lot of trouble, I was able to install oracle 10.2.0.1 on redhat as 4 upd 2 x86_64.
    This link helped me so much http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml help.
    I met a link error because of binutils version. After I installed binutils-2.15.92.0.2-15.0.0.0.2.x86_64.rpm (my version was binutils-2.15.92.0.2-15.0.0.0x86_64.rpm), I did retry and the install problem was solved.
    Then during dbca I met another error (ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact) because of libaio. I had 32 bit version instead of 64 bit. After the package update dbca run successfully.
    I'm facing the following problem during instance startup:
    "Thu Apr 19 17:40:17 2007
    Errors in file /oracle/admin/UAT/udump/uat_ora_2697.trc:
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

    ORA-36961: Oracle OLAP is not available.
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.OLAPIHISTORYRETENTION", line 1
    ORA-06512: at line 15"
    I told you those things about installation phase because maybe this error is related to the install (maybe something went wrong without I know it).
    Error in trace is:

  • Establish SSL connection to Oracle Instance w/JDBC Thin Client

    Hello all,
    I am writing a monitoring utility that will allow me to establish connections to both Oracle instances and LDAP repositories and query them to determine that they are up and running. My utility consists of a number of objects that handle connections to the LDAP and Oracle instances. I need to be able to do SSL and non-SSL connections to said instances.
    My issue is this: I am able to do SSL and non-SSL to LDAP, and non-SSL to an Oracle instance. I am having problems, though, establishing an SSL connection to an Oracle instance (I am using the thin client). Whenever I try, a SQLException is thrown that states: "Encountered a problem with the secret store. Check the wallet location for the presense of an <b>open</b> wallet (cwallet.sso) and ensure that the wallet contains the correct credentials..."
    Ok, a little background for those who may need it. Oracle uses a wallet to hold certs that allow SSL connections. I have a wallet on my box, and, from the command line, I am able to sqlplus into and tnsping the appropriate Oracle instances, so I know it is setup properly. The inability to connect only occurs in my code. My code looks like this:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Security.addProvider(new oracle.security.pki.OraclePKIProvider());
    /*Setup connection properties*/
    String connectionString = "testbox01:1000:ssl_instances_name";
    String userName = "userName";
    String pwd = "password";
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("oracle.net.ssl_version", 3.0");
    props.put("oracle.net.wallet_location", "SOURCE=(METHOD=file)(METHOD_DATA=(DIRECTORY=c:\\wallet)))");
    props.put("oracle.net.ssl_cipher_suites", "ssl cipher suites");
    props.put("oracle.net.ssl_server_dn_match", "FALSE");
    props.put("oracle.net.ssl_client_authentication", "true");
    /*Do connection and return connection object
    OracleDataSource ods = new OracleDataSource();
    ods.setUser(userName);
    ods.setPassword(pwd);
    ods.setUrl("jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + connectionString);
    ods.setConnectionProperties(props);
    Connection conn = ods.getConnection(); <---This is where code errors out with SQLException described above.
    return conn;
    And that's pretty much it. Anyone have any ideas?

    Ok, that looked horrible. Let's try this again:<br>

  • Does OEM Grid Control 10g support monitoring Oracle Portal 10g?

    Dear expert,
    It seems OEM GC 10g could monitor WebCenter, Weblogic portal and even Websphere portal, but I could not find any info for Oracle Portal. So,
    1.     Does OEM GC support to monitor Oracle Portal 10g? If not, does it support Oracle Portal 11g?
    2.     If does not support Oracle Portal, then is there any workaround for it? E.g. if it’s feasible through “web appliation”?
    Any comment and docs are welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Rob,
    Thanks for your help.
    BTW, I have another question for your reply, that what do u mean by “You can use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor and manage OracleAS Portal”?
    Do you mean OEM AS Console or OEM GC? Boz I only find these metrics from OEM AS Console, which mentioned in this doc. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b25987/oracle_portal.htm#CHDFJHDD
    If these metrics only available in AS Console, then how to let the OEM send out email notification if critical threshold is over?
    Thank you.
    Tony

  • Why do we call Enterprise Manger 10.2.0.3 "EM 10g R3" ?

    Why do we call Enterprise Manger 10.2.0.3 "EM 10g R3" ?
    I think it is ok "EM 10g R2" is Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.x. and
    "EM 10g R3" is Enterprise Manager 10.3.0.x.
    Your opinion?

    If it is a mistake/typo, then it will be Oracle's fault.
    There was Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 2 (v10.2.x). Which to me is 10g R2
    Now they are referring EMGC 10.2.0.3 as Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 3 (10.2.0.3). So that to me is 10g R3 because of the Release 3.
    If you remember, there were Oracle products named Oracle xxx 10g Release x(9.x.x). So, I think we are seing the same here.
    So, do not be surprised if you see 11g Release 1 (10.2.x.x).

  • DEV and QA within single oracle instance

    We need to have our DEV and QA in a single oracle instance. Scripts that refer to tables names in DEV will be copied over to QA for QA testing when unit testing in DEV has been completed. In DEV, we extract data from 5 source systems, one for each US state, which use the same application so the source table names are identical, and therefore in our staging area we have a schema per state such as TX, GA, MD and we extract data into staging tables that are identical to the source tables. Since we do cross state aggregation our scripts have to refer to TX.employee and GA.employee in the same sql statement.
    What is the best design for this using SCHEMAS, VIRTUAL PRIVATE DATABASES, VIEWS , SYNONYMS etc?
    Thanks in anticipation

    Just for my knowledge, if I did find myself in this situation would VIRTUAL PRIVATE DATABASES make sense here?I suppose you could potentially use VPD. But that would create major problems if you ever wanted to make schema changes-- you couldn't add a new column to a table in DEV, for example, without that column also being available in QA. You couldn't have code in DEV that didn't exist in QA. I suppose you could get really fancy and use 11g's edition-based redefinition to have a dev edition and a qa edition but I'd hate to think how you'd promote code to prod in that sort of environment. Plus, editions is an enterprise feature (at least, I'm not sure if it's an extra-cost option) which would tend to be beyond the pocketbook of a company trying to save on licensing costs by combining dev & qa in a single non-VM server (let alone in the same instance).
    You could potentially have your application use all dynamic SQL so that dev could use the DEV_TX schema while QA used the QA_TEX schema and it was just the TX schema in prod, but that obviously gets old really fast. You could create a single set of synonyms so that the TX_FOO synonym points to DEV_TX.FOO for the dev users and TEST_TX.FOO for the test users but then you'd have to remove the schema qualifiers from all your SQL statements.
    In short, an application like you describe trying to share an instance would be a rather massive undertaking.

  • SQL script with host command job in Enterprise Manger Grid Control

    I use Enterprise Manger Grid Control 10.2.0.5 and need to create SQL script job on database instance target on unix/linux platform.
    I have problem with os command inside sqlplus script.
    For example for the simple command: SQL> host ls
    I get the message in output log: SQL> SQL> SQL> SQL> SQL> SQL> /bin/bash: ls: command not found
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Make sure you have granted all necessary rights (log on as a batch job etc.) to the user used in the prefered credentials.
    Cheers,
    Kenneth
