Monitor resoultion question.

I am stuck in a hotel in Hungary attempting to edit on my Macbook, I have connected it to the hotel LCD HD Tv in the PC input, via the correct cable and the TV has a maximum resolution of 1360x768.
My material is 1920x1080 Pro res LT and it looks brilliant when played on the Mac, but when I drag it accross to the TV it looks absolute SH** it's like my glasses prescription has gone up to severe myopia!
What monitor should I believe, I haven't been able to review my stuff on any other monitor and I am panicking that the Funai TV is the ACTUAL result of my shooting and not the Mac!!
PS I don't really understand resolutions.

Ah, I see.
The canvas is a low resolution proxy and should never be counted on as a way of judging the quality of your final image quality.
So, with that in mind, you're viewing 1920x1080 media, in a low resolution window, on an 'HD' LCD monitor that probably isn't very good.
One little thing that might make the viewing more palatable in this LCD TV is to set your Canvas window to exactly 50%, rather than Fit to Window. Images in the canvas look crisper at 100% (too big for your current job) or 50%.
As a conclusion, I wouldn't worry about your camera work, of the quality of your source media. Just don't use the LCD as a quality reference. Unfortunately, viewing your final edit on your Macbook isn't ideal, but will give you better results than a random LCD TV in a Hungarian hotel room.

  • What is the best way to make a program fit different monitor resoultions?

In our lab all our test stations have 1280x1024 resoultion monitors. In the "other lab" all the test station monitors are 1440x900 resoultion.
Now I am tasked with making my programs run on the test stations in the other lab. I have tried setting the options "maintain proportions of windows for different monitor resoultions" and "Scale all object on front panel as the windows resizes" and of course neither one of these options really does what I would expect it to do.

I resize the Front Panel when the program start to fit the monitor resolution.  After that, I use the "SBE_Determine If Screen Resized.vi" from TomBrass (http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Resizing-controls-on-a-tab-control-within-a-pane/td-p/1520244 ).  This vi is very useful if you don't want to monopolize the CPU with the "Panel Resize" event.
I don't like this function for a couple reasons.  First for the example you don't need any custom code to handle the window resizing, just use a couple splitters.  Even if you did need to handle the resize, you only resize after the mouse is up after the resize which is not how normal Windows programs work they resize as the mouse moves.  So I modified the VI to resize objects as you resize the window.  Then because doing this can generate 100 events very quickly, I use a boolean in a shift register to make sure that we only handle the resize event if there is no new resize events after 0ms.  This essentially makes a lossy queue and handles the last resize event.

  • Monitor Compatibility Question

I plan on purchasing a Mac Pro with the Radeon X1900 XT card in the near future. I have been shopping around for a good monitor, and the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP (found here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku= 320-4335) caught my eye. However, at the bottom of the tech specs, it lists only PC under "Compatibility." I know of other people who have used Dell monitors for their Macs, and this monitor does have DVI, so I don't see why it would not be compatible with the Mac Pro. Does anyone know definitively whether or not this monitor would work?

    Hello,
You should be just fine. The majority of monitors are listed as compatible with PC's only. The simple reason is that the manufacturers don't care to test them with Macs and have all their resources devoted to supporting what they know.
If they mentioned that it would work with a Mac, then they would be stuck trying to answer your questions on the phone if you needed help. Since they don't use Macs, and don't maintain a staff of Mac trained people, it is easier to just omit official support. That way they can just tell you that they don't support Macs and hang-up the phone.
I've been using PC monitors with my Macs since before Apple even supported PC monitors at all (you used to have to buy monitors with Apple specific cables). I would just use an adapter to convert the PC connector to connect to the Mac video port.
In all my years, I've never found a PC monitor that would not work with my Mac. And, that still holds true today. I've used several low-end monitors with my current machines, and all work fine.
I've even got a bargain basement DVI monitor connected right-now, and it works perfectly.
Basically, if you want official support and a guarantee, then buy a monitor that specifically lists Mac compatibility.
But, if you are willing to accept that their phone support will avoid helping you, then go with any brand you like.
Understand that Dell is primarily interested in selling and supporting Dell computers. They have no interest in fielding calls from Mac users because they are not going to be familiar with OS X. Naturally, they will list PC compatibility because they know Windows very well.
But, you should also understand that the only difference between an Intel-based Mac and an Windows PC, is that the Intel-based Mac can also run OS X. Otherwise, they are just different brands of computers that use pretty much the same hardware.
    I hope this helps.

  • LMS 4.2.3 Fault Monitor threshold question

Hello, I would like to know if anyone know how to find out which Fault Threshold group a specific interface belongs to.
The scenario is that in Fault Manager there is an alarm for which I want to change the Threshold Setting.
    Example Alarm:
    Event_Description HighUtilization
    Device IP x.x.x.x
    Device Type Routers
Fault Last Updated At 19-Mar-2013 09:44:25
    Component IF-router2.x.x/26 [Tu187] [x.x.x.x]
    Component Class Interface
    Component Event Code 1056
    Current Utilization 68.323204 %

    If Description Tunnel187
    Max Speed 100000
    Traffic Rate 8540.4 BYPS
    Type TUNNEL
    Utilization Threshold 40
If I look in Monitor > Fault  Settings > Setup > Threshold  Settings.
Then expand all groups under DFM, there is no group called "Tunnel", so the question is which group this Interface belongs to?
    BR /Crille

Its defined as an 10/100 ethernet interface " Component Class Interface"  with a 40% threshold utilization which it fell below per the event notifiation of 68.3%.

  • External monitor resolution question

Hi and sorry for any dupliation of this question
My main monitor is an Acer G246HL - it's 24" with a max resolution of 1920x1080.
Looking to run an external display mirroring the same as the master monitor.
So even if i buy a smaller screen-size, if the 2nd monitor (an Acer 21.5") is capable of
1920x1080 resolution, i shouldn't have any problem with undistorted display on both
monitors, right?  Hopefully so, since i ordered one.  (I'd be running one off the HDMI
and one off the TBolt/MiniDisplayPort) Thanks for any clarification
    Mike

Good to hear, wasn't sure if the fact the screen size was smaller would matter but thanks for confirming it'll work.

  • HD monitor resolution question

I bought an LG w2361V 23" monitor (full HD) for use with my MPB. I have it hooked up via mini to VGA adapter.
The native resolution is 1920x1080, but at that setting (via Apple, System Preferences, Displays) the right 2 inches of the monitor are not used (i.e. a black bar). At 1680 x 1050 the entire monitor space is used. The problem with 1680 x 1050 is that (in Keynote anyway) things like pie charts look stretched in stead of circular. Why will it not work at the higher resolution? What can I do?
Is there a monitor that works particularly well with Mac? (I don't want to pay the big bucks for an apple monitor).
The monitor has VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs. Is there a mini to HDMI available for mac?
    Thanks
    bob

OK, I have tried everything in
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2004318&start=0&tstart=0
with no resolution. But I do know how to frame the question better.
I am running Mac Book Pro 10.5.7 with a new external LGw2361v 23" monitor, native 1920x1080 60ghz over a mini to vga cable. The 1920x1080 has always appeared in apple's display utility, but when I choose it, I get a letter box screen image (i.e. two 1" black bars on each side or one 2" black bar on right). I would expect it to fill the entire screen.
Any other ideas how to get rid of the letterbox?
Is there a way to scale or stretch the image? I tried SwitchResX, but that did not resolve the problem.
    Thanks

  • Cs6 Monitor Issue Question

OK I just bought a new monitor and I love it however the graphics seem much darker viewing in web than in photoshop,
the monitor I got was LG IPS LED 27EA63 now my question is I have tried calibrating to no avail and I also looked on a tablet and its dark also does anyone have a profile I can use or can what is the best monitor profile right now i have it set to color match RGB but i want photoshop to be accurated

Web browsers are not all properly color-managed.  Photoshop is, but your monitor color profile (associated with the monitor at the operating system level) has to match the monitor's capability.   From what I have read, that monitor has an sRGB gamut.
You don't say what browser you're using.  "Viewing in web" isn't sufficient.  They're actually all different in the way they handle color-management.
If consistency between applications is your goal, here's one possible zero-additional-cost approach you may take...
    1.  In your Windows Color Management dialog, ensure the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile, specifically, is associated with the monitor, and ensure "Windows Calibration" is disabled.  Add it and make it the default in the Devices tab to be sure.
    2.  Set your on-monitor controls generally at center-scale, but you might want to turn the brightness down.  Usually for photo work a brightness lower than default is preferable.
    3.  Go to a page like this one and use the controls for Gamma/Brightness/Contrast in your display driver to calibrate the output to get your gamma response close to the ideal value of 2.2:  http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
At this point, a browser like Internet Explorer - which always ASSUMES your monitor is displaying the sRGB color space - won't be far wrong, and images will exactly match what you see in Photoshop.
Regarding what color space to choose as your preferred setting for editing, I'd suggest using the defaults (e.g., sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for your RGB working space) until such time as you learn why you might want to edit in a color space that has a larger gamut (i.e. for printing on systems that offer a wider gamut).  I do suggest checking all the "Warn if" boxes, so you know if you're opening an image that doesn't match your preferred setting.
The above approach will net you the greatest consistency between applications, some of which are partially or not color-managed.  In short your images will stand the greatest chance of looking the same in Photoshop as they do on your web browser.
There are other possible approaches, including using a calibration and profiling device to measure the differences between ideal, accurate color and what your system actually delivers.  I encourage you to read up on color-management.  It's not a simple subject, but it's necessary if you really do care about what colors are in your work.

  • Multi Monitor Management Question

I'm running a three 30" Cinema Display config for photo editing but I don't always use all three monitors at the same time. Is there a way, or any third party software out there, that will enable me to turn off the extended desktop when I don't want to use all of my monitors, or am I forced to always plug/unplug the monitors (to force the resync) when I want to use them? System Preferences > Displays isn't much help in this regard. Thanks!

Basically to restate my question. When I decide to turn off my #1 (left) and #3 (right) monitor and just use my #2 (center), the pointer is always disappearing off the screen to the left or the right. Isn't there any multi-monitor control utility out there, or do I always have to crawl down on the floor, unplug my other monitors and restart (a real PIA).
    Thanks.

  • Card/monitor compatibility question

Hi, I have a ati radeon x 800xt mac edition card (dual link dvi-i) can i use a single link dvi-i monitor? Thanks

The DVI port can be used with a single or dual link DVI display, or with a DVI to VGA adapter, for a VGA display.
The ADC port can also be used with an ADC to DVI adapter for a single-link DVI display, or with an ADC to VGA adapter for a VGA display.

  • Final Cut Pro monitor gamma question... again!

Very confused here: can anyone tell me for sure what gamma my Cinema Display needs to be set to for work with FCP7 / Snow Leopard? I can only find contradictory information and nothing clear and conclusive from Apple.
My problem: following the latest advice, I've been using a Cinema Display calibrated to 2.2 (dual monitors on a Macbook Pro). I can export an edited file which matches FCP's canvas when viewed in QuickTime.
However, if I send to Compressor from FCP, the preview in Compressor is darker and more contrasty than FCP's canvas.
If I upload a video that looks OK in QuickTime to MobileMe it becomes dark and contrasty too.
If I convert my exported file that looked OK in QuickTime to H.264 in Mpeg Streamclip I, once again, get a version that is darker and more contrasty than in FCP or QuickTime.
I'm pulling my hair out over this, not least because it's becoming a fantastic waste of time. I would like to be concentrating on editing rather than trying to sort this out!
I had assumed that using a suite of Apple applications on an Apple computer would mean seamless and easy integration...

But the problem here is not simply viewing. I am also creating and then viewing and I think this is where the problem lies. A video uploaded to MobileMe is transformed in the process and it's during the transformation (whatever that might be) that the change in appearance occurs. I view a video in FCP's canvas but then it is exported before being viewed in QuickTime. Gamma levels may be set, colour profiles embedded and / or read, applications may make assumptions about viewing conditions or which of the two monitors I'm using is the principal one, who knows what... I think it's here that the problem lies...

  • Wireless Client PING-Based monitor system question

    Hi:
I joined this forums because i need to recopilate info about a monitor system.
So, i have a relative big wireless network and due to legal instances I MUST use a ping-based monitor system to see the status of my network devices and the final clients on wireless station.
We developed a php linux-based system to make pings every 5 minutes to see if there is a host UP or DOWN. Everything works fine, the server is making the pings to the clients and MRTG generates graphic statistics.
    Reference image -> http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9125/pingred0xq.jpg
The problem is now I have received a notification to make a change on this system to send the pings FROM the clients TO the server and generate statistics.
Is there any difference between making pings from the Client side to the server and viceversa? Does round-trip time is different maybe?
What are the technicals issues on this system?
I accept every critic, advice, suggestion, information, etc.
    PS: Sorry my poor english

That's interesting. It sounds as if you may have a good reason for implementing this, but it would also seem to be an inefficient monitoring scheme. A polling interval of 5 minutes does not give that much granularity for statistics even if you are able to make it work from the client side. Also, you would need to centrally collect the statistics in some way. If it were me I would stick to a centrally based monitoring system. I make heavy use of the syslog capabiliy on Cisco access points since they log just about everything. You can even have a syslog monitoring system page you for something as small as dropped wireless connection if you want to go that far.
Sorry if that's not much help, but I would definately have some people look at the big picture before implementing the proposed solution.
    Good luck with it.

  • XFCE + dual monitor setup question

    Hi,
I just used the wiki guides to install arch and xfce, the desktop is extended horizontally on my 2 monitors, I used aticonfig.
the problem is if I start a an application in 1 monitor I cannot drag it to the 2nd monitor, how do I achieve that?
    thx.

@pinkfish, re etiquette, don't worry too much about it.  I've seen worse and at least you're willing to take advice and a bit of constructive criticism.  Some people I have seen on forums immediately fire a shot over the bow, to use a naval phrase, thinking they need to defend themselves from other forum citizens.
I meant to ask, are you trying to get one big desktop then or a "true" dual monitor (separate x-session) situation?  You might want to try one then the other.  I know when I had an ATI card I found it difficult, if not impossible, to get dual monitors working properly yet the big desktop option did work on most systems.

  • Monitor RBG question

    Hi all,
I'm working on a graphic for a Flash presentation. I've been working in Windows RGB proof setup. Then I realized that when I save as a JPG, it changes color. I spent a lot of time getting the colors on this abstract piece perfect, and don't relish the thought of having to go it again using the Monitor proof setup. Is there a way to convert the way the colors look in Windows Proof to be the same as it looks in Monitor RBG proof?
    Thanks so much,
    Paul

You're fighting the color management. I'm trying to point you the right
direction, perhaps with some false assumptions on my part.
If you want your work to look good on the web, convert your image to the
sRGB profile. This will give you colors that are reasonably close to your
original on the vast majority of displays out there. This is my
    recommendation.
If you want your work to look good just on your own system, then convert
your image to your monitor profile. To do this, you'll need to locate the
name of the color profile, under the Color tab under the Display control
panel. One warning about this: it will look perfect on your own system,
and maybe not so great on other people's systems. If this is how you want
to work, type ctrl-shift-K and change Settings to "No Color Management".
If neither of these is what you want to do, explain it in more detail, and
I'll try to give you more information.

First timer here, so bear with me.  I have imported my files, but the monitor panel right side is zoomed in.  I have a feeling I just missed a setting somewhere.  Can anyone tell me what I did wrong and how do I fix it?
