Monitor(s) won't work

I suspect my videocard or possibly motherboard might be going on my Mac G5.  I'm having the monitor randomly shut-off and at startup it doesn't seem to startup or receive a signal.
I tried hooking up my MacBook Pro via and Firewire and holding down the "T" button to see the G5's harddrive on my MacBook displayed (for transferring files if in fact it is dying) but it doesn't seem to show up.  Any suggestions and/or suspicions?

Hi Aaron,
Was this the t key on the G5 you were holding down at boot?
Once the G5 is booted in Target mode, did you open Disk Utility on the MBP to check if the G5's drive shows there?
We can always pull the drive easily to get files off with something like this...

  • Samsung 20" Pebble monitor - replacement won't work with Mac Mini

We had no trouble connecting a 20" Samsung SM2032BW monitor to my mum's new Mac Mini and all worked well till the monitor broke (the button fell off...). Samsung cheerfully sent a replacement monitor the next day but the new one - probably reconditioned, but that's fine - gives only the 'check cable signal' message.
Clearly the Mac Mini has no objections to this model of Samsung, what sort of freaky thing might it be? I am advising my mum by phone and have access to her Mac Mini by logmein.com. There might be some other combinations of changing the screen resolution or startup order of all the equipment (eg disconnect monitor, boot up Mac, and then connect and power up monitor). Or should I try to look at the menu on the Samsung monitor and see what options there are?
    thanks...

Hi, thanks for offering some help.
Connection is a DVI cable. I have tried getting my mum to press the menu button but it just gives a message that alternates between analog and digital. She's unable to change the setting to digital.
I have been looking at the user manual online. The monitor seems to be working fine according to the self-test procedure. My guess is that it will work using a VGA cable and I am posting my mum a VGA cable and a DVI/VGA Apple adaptor. It's a little annoying if we can't get it to work using the same cable as we used for the old and identical monitor, but hey, if it works then I should leave it that way.
I'll post again if the VGA connection works, but if you have any other suggestions, I'm interested to hear.
    THanks again...

  • Monitor Sound Won't Work - Windows 7

Hi there... just set up a new (for me, anyway) pc, and this HP w1907 Widescreen LCD Monitor was the only one I had to use, unfortunately. When everything was first installed and new, sound played just fine through the monitor speakers without issue. I was able to fully update Windows; still no problems. I was playing World of Warcraft a couple nights ago and suddenly my sound just stopped and I haven't been able to fix it.
Unfortunately, I've tried just about every solution listed for this problem (that I could find) and not one of these has worked. There are no problems with my auxilary cable; it's brand new, and I checked it with something else just in case.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks.

    Hello writkeeper,
I understand that your sound is not working anymore.
Here is a link that will walk you through the steps to trouble shoot the issue.
If it has not been to long since the problem started, you can run a system restore.
This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.
Here is a link on how to do a restore.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • Busted screen, external monitor connection won't work

My PowerBook G4 screen busted a year ago after it fell off a table. I had been successful is using an external monitor up until a couple weeks ago. I have tried a couple monitors and cannot see anything but a white screen. I know a signal is getting from the Mac to the monitor, but only a white screen.
Any ideas on how to get an external monitor connection again?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Bob.
I know a signal is getting from the Mac to the monitor...
How do you know that? Does the external monitor display something other than a white screen at any point during the startup process? In other words, can you really be sure the Mac is ever sending anything other than plain white to the monitor?
As louie says, there's almost no testing you can do without a working display.
What changed a couple of weeks ago, just before you started having this problem with the external monitor? Had you moved the computer and/or the monitor, connected any new devices, disconnected the monitor, upgraded your OS, etc.?

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!

  • 2nd Monitor won't work

I bought a Pavillion p6210f last week with Win7 loaded to replace my Dell/Vista.  I was using two monitors with a VGA port and DVI port on the old PC, so I tried plugging in the same on my new HP and the DVI would not fit.  In examining the pins I found that, althought the Manual said DVI, but the plug has the pin/bar arrangement of a DVI-D.   So, I bought a VGAto DVI-D adapter and everything plugged in snuggly.  All pins and bar appear a match.
But, it won't work.  This is what is showing
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller   HP RC Mirror Driver [Display adapter]
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100 [Display adapter]
    Acer P241W [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n LB4040014320, March 2008)the one working monitor....
After hours with the 800 support and hours of reversing the two Acer monitors, the DVI-D port is simply dead.  Anything plugged in to the VGA works fine, anything and any combination plugged into the DVI-D and cable switching etc. the 2nd monitor  is not even recoginized.  The NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize it. The amber power light just stays that way and nothing ever flashes on the 2nd screen.  That is, it is the same as not plugging in at all.
I was less than pleased when 800 tech and supervisor suggested I take it to a repair center.  A week old?  I have put way too much setup and data transfer into the new HP to go back to the retailer for a replacement.
Techs didn't know, but could there be a DVI-X with the same pins that also fits

Eldric, did you update to the latest video driver from nVidia?  It sounds to me like a driver problem.  Update and let us know if that solves your problem.

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • Preview Monitor won't Work

I am using a Blackmagic card and have updated the codecs - I did a chat with Adobe and they remotely controlled my computer and still couldn't get it to work. The monitor works fine with Final Cut but won't work with Premier CC. Help.

Hmmm ...  not sure where to even start, you didn't include enough details really ...
For starters ... OS/version, which CC build you're running, some things like that? Around here this is a puzzle-out space with most of participants being "peers" in being users and not Adobe staff. Some staff post here on their own time, and are a great help. But so are many of the regular joe's and joeleen's who inhabit this space.
Not thrilled that Adobe chat & help folks couldn't find the issue, but we'll see if someone around here will take on the challenge ...

  • X200 External Monitor -- In High Resolution, Tablet Pen Won't Work

I have an X200 Tablet running Windows 7 and need everything I write on the tablet with the digital pen to be simultaneously visible on an external monitor.  The problem is that when using both monitors simultaneously, the X200 will only display on the external monitor at the X200's maximum resolution (1280x800) even though the external monitor can go to a higher resolution (1680x1050).
I've tried the Ultramon app, which allows the Tablet and external monitor to both be at their max resolution (which is my goal) but then the digital pen won't work on the Tablet.
    Any thoughts on a solution?

    • Went to Best Buy
    • Paid for a DYNEX Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ($25)
    • Came home and plugged in the adapter then the HDMI to DVI cable to the monitor. (Note: Monitor is a LG Flatron L22WTG) - DID NOT WORK
    • iMac knows monitor is plugged in and I can change the resolution on both monitors and mirror. (Note: Changed to every resolutions with/without mirror image.) - DID NOT WORK
    • Restarted computer - DID NOT WORK
    • Turned off/on LG monitor many times - DID NOT WORK
    • Unplugged/plugged back in many different ways - DID NOT WORK
    • Changed the HDMI to DVI cable with a better cable - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed BootCamp with Windows 7 - *BOTH WORK 100%*
    • Rebooted to OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed Windows XP - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Reinstalled OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Updated OS X from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 - DID NOT WORK
Seems to be a driver problem with the new update (10.6.7). I will not update again till drivers are fixed.

  • Dual monitors won't work independently

Using win 7 ATI Raedon 4200 card. My second monitor displays only the primary desktop back ground. Followed all setup correctly please help

Vnyga, thanks but that's not it. The geek squad said something about my monitor plug ins I told them my computer recognizes the dual setup but won't work independently. He said you can keep tweak it but he has 3 monitors an although they will learn his only remembers about 70% of the time. I'm going to try hooking it up toy TV as a monitor. I just want to use it for security cameras. I do have a DVR I could use but I normally just use that when I'm ghost hunting. I'm actually I union millwright and part time ghost hunter so I'm not to well versed in computers or the talkology but I'm learning. Anyway my laptop w win8 works just fine. But... I truly appreciate I taking the time to respond an at least offer a solution thanks so much an I apologize for running my mouth on an on. Take care V.

  • Card VGA Matrox G200 detected but monitor HP D2826 won't work

I have an HP Vectra, during installation of solaris 8,he detected my VGA card Matrox G200, but my monitor HP D2826 won't work???? Actually, i work with standart VGA 256 colors. Can anyone help me please?

The card I linked indicates it needs 450 watts.  This is more of a rough estimate and I'm not certain that a leeway of 50W is enough for the system.  Again, 450W is a rough estimate.  It may just need a little larger power supply, I find that unlikely since the DVI port works without issue.
I was inquiring about the motherboard to check if this particular motherboard needed to have the onboard graphics disabled for the discrete graphics card to work, but this can be safely ruled out since the DVI port worked.
Here is what can be ruled out thus far.
    1.  BIOS settings in the motherboard.  If it was a BIOS setting issue preventing the card from displaying an image, then the DVI port would have not worked.
    2.  The display port on the monitor.  If it was the monitor's display port was at fault, then it wouldn't have worked with the motherboard's display port.
    3.  For the most part, I think it is safe to rule out a weak power supply.  Generally speaking, a video card either works 100% or 0% based on whether or not it has enough power or not enough power.  Not enough power doesn't typically cause certain video ports to work and others not to work.
The one item that cannot be ruled out at this point is the display port of the video card itself.  By chance, do you have another card to test in this system or another system to test the card in that meets the requirements?  It may be worth contacting XFX as it appears that this may be an issue with the display port of the card.
Here is their link should you need it.

  • MacBook Spring 2010 Snow Leopard won't work with External Samsung Monitor

    Hi,
I have a MacBook I purchased about a month ago and it's not working with my Samsung SyncMaster 940 BW. I am using Mini DisplayPort out with a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adaptor which goes into my SyncMaster Monitor. I have tried rebooting, and also playing around with my laptop resolution, but otherwise I have no idea what to do about this.
I've read on the discussions that this is a known Snow-Leopard issue but I thought I might post to see if this has been resolved. I run all the updates but the monitor still isn't working?

A better place to post would be in the The MacBook Pro Display (2008 and Later) forum:
