Monitor stopped working

I have recorded dozens of songs on GarageBand and this morning i set up my guitar to record like i usually do and the monitor gave me no sound. My speakers work because they will play back anything i play, i just cannot hear it live. This is NOT a delay issue. There is absolutely no sound. I am doing everything i should. Can anyone think of any reason why this would cease to work? It's very frustrating.

  • Mountain Lion 1.8.2 update made my dual monitor stop working on Mac Pro mid 2012

Just done Apple's update for Mac OS X Mountain Lion to 1.8.2 and after rebooting my dual monitor stopped working.
If I go on preferences -> Displays it shows me only one of my two monitors, even if I invert the connections the 2nd monitor doesn't shows up and there seems no way to enable it again.
    Any suggestion?
P.S. I already tried to set from "Best for display" to "Scaled", but after rebooting Mountain Lion 1.8.2 reset it to "Best for display"

    Ok,
did some extra test here, but first of all my configuration:
Mac Pro (Mid 2012) with ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB.
2 LCD 24" Wide-screen (1st monitor Hyundai W240D and 2nd Monitor HP w2448hc), both LCD worked perfectly until reboot after installing OS X 1.8.2
After reboot only the 1st monitor wored fine, the 2nd not even listed, so tried to invert cable connections on the 2 miniports on the ATI video card, but nothing changed, still only the 1st monitor working.
Did a second test, disconnected the 1st monitor and connected ONLY the 2nd and now the second works fine.
Tried to connect 2nd monitor on a different miniport, and i still works fine.
Updated my MacBook Pro to 1.8.2 (it as an nVidia card) and connected my 2nd monitor to it and everything works fine, both the laptop LCD and my HP LCD are working fine.
So it looks like Apple screwed up the ATI driver on the latest 1.8.2, now only ONE miniport is active.
To all users with the same Mac Pro configuration: hold to update to Mountain Lion 1.8.2 until Apple fix this driver issue.
More info are on the Console output, so will have to contact Apple on-line support to signal this bug.

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • CX623 external monitor stopped working

    Hello everyone,
we have a CX623 which has worked fine for years.   This week the external DELL monitor stopped working.  It just goes into power save mode.
The monitor and cable work if plugged into a different laptop.
A different monitor which is ok doesn't work when plugged into the CX623.
So it's 100% an issue with the laptop.   Pressing Fn+F2 to change the monitor configuration doesn't resolve the issue.
The laptop does recognise the monitor and correctly names it in the display resolution settings.
    Any suggestions please?

That really sounds strange....most likely it's something internal to the notebook. And honestly, there probably isn't any easy way to fix it other than replacing the motherboard.

  • IMac External Monitor stopped working

I have an Intel based iMac and have been running my old 17inch apple monitor as a second display for over a year now. For no apparent reason today the monitor stopped working. The screen just appears black. there is power getting to it as the power light is on and the computer detects the display fine. I can even move objets to that monitor, I just cant see anything. Any helps would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Joe

Yep, have the same problem using a 3rd party cablesson mdp-hdmi adapter. Everything worked fine until quite recently. I have tried pretty much everything to fix it but nothing seems to work. I'm almost convinced it's an OS problem, as everything works fine when I boot into my windows bootcamp partition.
Apple, please get this sorted! I'm reluctant to shell out $35 only to find that I have the exact same problem with the official adapter. Though I probably will anyway because I urgently need to get my display working again.

  • My Second Monitor stopped working in snow leopard. How do I fix it?

My Second Monitor stopped working in snow leopard. How do I fix it?
The monitor is not dead I have checked it using the the other monitor slot. The slot thats not working is the one that has the HDMI adpator on the end of the cable. Tried resetting the computer disconnecting the monitor power, trying a new cable. Nothing fix's it. I'm using snow leopard and everything has been fine. I haven't done any recent updates or changes to the system in the last 4 weeks.

  • Reference Monitor Stopped Working

While working on a project I had to use "Interpret footage" to change the frame rate and pixel aspect ratio on a clip. After making the change, my reference monitor stopped working correctly.
Prior to making the above frame rate change, I was using the reference monitor for a waveform analysis which would play smoothly on both the Program and Reference monitors. Once I made the clip change, I lost the ability for the reference monitor to play smoothly-- it only holds an image of a single frame. In order to see the clip play I have to hold down the right arrow button. The program monitor works fine. And yes, it is set to gang.
The interpret footage command screwed something up. Any ideas?
I'm using Premiere CS2 with XP Pro Service Pack 3. NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400 card, AMD Dual Opteron 254 processors on a Tyan Thunder mobo.

    Hey,
I had this exact same problem!
I know this is an old thread, but just incase someone comes along here looking for a working solution,
    Liquid80 from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/688529
    posted this answer,
"Then  for some reason I decided to click on "Window" on the menu bar without  even thinking and then clicked "Program Monitor"!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
There  are TWO different views. One called "Program Monitor" and the other  called "Reference Monitor" and the annoying thing is they look nearly  identical but function differently!!!
So all this time you had "Reference Monitor" open instead of "Program Monitor"."
    All the best

  • External monitor stopped working on Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook pro 15 with the vga adapter. I have been using it sucessfully for a month. Today it stopped working. I followed all of the suggestions online but have had no luck resolving this issue. The monitor works fine on my sony laptop but the Mac cannot see it. I have unplugged the adapter, shut down, turned on and plugged it back in as recommended. I tried a different monitor and i have simply restarted the machine with the adapter plugged in. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

  • Second monitor stopped working with MSI Cyclone OC 460GTX 1Gb

    Hi everyone!
I recently bought this card and it worked well for about a month. I woke up one morning to see my second monitor having turned black. There appears to be a signal of some sort since I don't get the "no signal/input" message, but there's no response no matter what I try. I went back to the shop and they confirmed the same error which was then believed to be a broken secondary DVI port. They tested a new card and found it to be working, but I got the same black screen when I came home and plugged it in.
I'm using a 24'' BenQ G2400WD and a Samsung SyncMaster 173T. As they worked well together for about a month and did so on my old 9800GT as well I have no reason to expect the actual monitors to be the cause. They both work fine on DVI 1, but none of them do on DVI 2.
I'm currently sitting with my second card and have tried the following things:
    - clean install of new drivers
    - uninstalling the last windows updates before the second DVI port stopped working (and then doing a clean install of drivers)
    - confirmed that both monitors work on the other port
I've talked to the shop again and they told me they got the card I handed in to work by making sure it was properly connected. I've made sure of this myself as well of course, but without any luck. The guys at this place are known for being good at what they do so I have no reason to suspect that they overlooked anything obvious. The fact that they've gotten both cards to work at their place puzzles me a bit.
My current theory is either a bad batch of cards or some sort of windows update breaking dual screen support. I would expect to have heard about it if it was a windows issue, but both cases might be underreported given that most people only use one monitor. I filled in relevant information in my signature to the best of my knowledge. Please let me know if I've missed something and I'll try to figure it out.
    Any help appreciated

OK, I will let you know. First update:
Vendor has already given me a RMA number(less than 2 hours). The VGA card should hopefully be in the snail mail process tomorrow.
One weird thing, my RMA was degraded from replace to repair. Not quite sure about that one? Not sure if that means that it will be replaced or sent to MSI from vendor for repair/or vendor will attempt repair? Only time will tell, I guess. The only great thing is that just one of these 4890 Cyclone OC cards beats out a single 3870x2 vga card hands down. And thanks to this forum, I was taking some time to read up on this forum. I must say I am impressed, keep up the good work moderators and MSI. Thanks and will keep you updated. Special thanks to Svet.

  • External monitor stopped working after 10.6.7 update

I have a MacBook Pro, model identifier MacBookPro6,2 with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M.
When I updated last night from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 I stopped being able to use my Dell S2409W external monitor.
I have tried resetting the pram, resetting the SMC, booting with extensions off.
When I plug in the cable to the external monitor the Mac screen goes blue for about 0.5 second and re-appears but nothing displays on the external monitor; a second monitor is not listed in the Display preferences and the monitor reports that it is not receiving a signal.
I don't see anything in the system.log when I plug or unplug the monitor cable (I'm not sure if I should).
At random intervals while the external monitor cable is plugged in the screen goes blue for a half second and then re-appears.
The screen does not go blue if I wiggle or flex the monitor cable.

I see this in the windowserver.log after reboot, login with shift-key, and the external monitor connected.
There might be a clue here but I don't have anything to compare it to since I haven't collected these data when the external monitor was working.
I'd be curious to see the same data from the windowserver.log for somebody else with a MacBook Pro with an external monitor connected that does work.
You can view this log with the console application located: /Applications/Utilities/console.
If you are willing to share these data please reboot, and hold the shift-key down when logging in to disable extensions (thanks). If you look at the time just when the desktop appears when you end up looking at the windowserver.log you'll be able to see the windowserver starting up about 10 seconds prior to this time.

  • External monitor stopped working!!

My external monitor just stopped working today as soon as i upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 from 10.6.2.
When I unplug it and plug it back the screen goes blue very briefly but then nothing happens.
I tried the detect display button, I tried resetting the PRAM and nothing's working.

  • MBA 2011 Internal Monitor stopped working

    Hello Community,
"over night" the internal display of my 2011 MBA stopped working. :-( External Monitor and and all other things are okay, the background light is on too, but there is nothing on the internal display.
Are there any tipps to get this thing to work properly again?
    Thanks in advance.

Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Note: if you are using a wireless keyboard and the Hardware Test and/or Pram reset is not working, then you may need to use a USB keyboard.
Also see > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
and > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ if the Pram reset does not solve your problem.

  • Monitor stopped working on HPE460Z

I have an HP 2710M monitor that stopped working on my HPE460Z so I bought a new monitor. I connected new monitor with same HDMI cable and worked fine. I then tried a DVI connection to the HP2710M and it did not work. I connected the old(2710m) to a laptop thru hdmi and worked fine. I then took the hdmi out of laptop and placed it directly into my HPE460Z and it does not work. For some reason my desktop isnt recoginzing it. The new monitor works on it and the old monitor works on other computers? Any help is very greatly appreciated.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

  • Windows sensor button on monitor stopped working - Yoga Pro 2

I have had my Yoga Pro 2 all of 3 days, and today the sensor button located on the monitor that brings you to the windows start screen has stopped working. When I purchased the laptop, the sensor worked fine - it vibrated when touched and brought me to the start screen. Now, nothing happens. I have installed the 2 updates I was prompted to install, could this be the issue? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  • MBP - late 2007 - external monitor stopped working

I have a late 2007 MBP pro, 17" monitor.  I have been using a 30" dell monitor (3007WFP) as an external monitor for home use.  It has been working fine for 4 years.  Last night the monitor stopped waking up from sleep and now only gives a blank screen even after reboots.  The monitor seems ok ( it goes through the self-test routine normally), and I have tried different cables with no success.
I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM  on the MBP but that too did not fix it.
The monitor has an orange LED light on the power button indicating the power is connected (though it is not blue which would indicate it is receiving a signal).  It also recognizes that is has a DVI hook-up (or else it would repeat the self-test).
The MBP detects the external monitor (or at least seems to - it is listed as a display and allows me to choose a resolution, although obviously that does nothing since the monitor is completely black). I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you

Your on the right track when you said "I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.".  Also include a different cable in that scenario, if you can.
    Ciao.

  • HDMI Converter to USB 3.0 for Monitor stopped working

After upgrading to the Yosemite OS, my second monitor quit working. I use a HDMI converter to USB 3.0 adapter. I tried both USB ports. I have restarted and powered down my Mac Air book. I did have it connected to an external 4 port USB at first but now tried the direct connect to the MAC air. Now I have tried over USB devices like my external Apple Drive. It is not working either. So my guess is something is wrong with my USB ports. I am new to a MAC so I do not know how to check the drivers and see if working. Help please. yes I will google how to's. Many thanks
