However itune still refused to pik up the ipod. Wats goin on and should i restore it.
1.If i restore it will i lose the songs on itunes or the stuff on the ipod only.
2. Will i have to uninstall itunes or that program ipod before restoring. I cant uninstall ipod i lost the code thing on the CD cover(can i get a new one?)
3.How can u put your ipod into disk mode if the ipod doesnt turn on!?
4. If all else fails how do i send it to apple, how long will it take to get back and how much will it cost!
thankyou

"1.If i restore it will i lose the songs on itunes or the stuff on the ipod only."
Restore will delete everything on your iPod only. Your songs in iTunes will remain.
"2. Will i have to uninstall itunes or that program ipod before restoring. I cant uninstall ipod i lost the code thing on the CD cover(can i get a new one?)"
No need to uninstall iTunes or the iPod updater.
"3.How can u put your ipod into disk mode if the ipod doesnt turn on!?"
You can't.
"4. If all else fails how do i send it to apple, how long will it take to get back and how much will it cost!"
If your iPod is still under it's one-year warranty, you can file a claim here;
http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If your ipod is more that 6 months old, it will be about $30 for handling, if it's less than 6 months old, it's all free.

  • No More Resource problem

    Hi:
I have a J2EE application using Connection Pool and JDBC.
I am using Weblogic 6.1 and JDK 1.3.1.
I am running into a 'No More Resource' problem. I did some debugging and think the cause is due to all my 80 database connections are used up so no new connection is available. But all the 80 connections shouldn't be used up because I did the statement.close() and rs.close() in the finally{} statement in all my DAO methods. But it seems like the connections are not released back to the free pool.
I thought I read something that I might need to do a conn.close() too in order for the connections to be returned to the pool and marked as available. Don't the statement.close() do that? Thanks for any help!
    Stella

Any resolution on this? We're getting the same problem - using weblogic 6.1 and jdk131. We should never reach the max # of connections specified in the pool but periodically we do. Scraped through all the code and confirmed that for every connection we call ResultSet.close; Statement.close; Connection.Close in the finally block of the try/catch statements. But we still periodically reach the max. It's sporadic so we can't reproduce. Also, after we get the error and we check the weblogic console, we see the # of active connections drop back down below the max capacity (we have shrinking turned on). Any ideas?
    thx.

  • 1st generation nano problems....help greatly appreciated!!

i have a first generation nano, and i plugged it in to my computer last night and it said something about needed to scan for problems...then it popped up my F drive saying that i needed to insert something into the F drive....
i have tried three different cords to hook up my iPod to my pc...I tried another usb port...so i am assuming that it is either my computer, the iTunes or the iPod...regardless of what it is, my iPod wont update. and when it says it is updating it's not.
i am running a much older version of iTunes, the one that came on the cd with the first gens...i think 7.2..cant remember, and i have a Vista OS. could THAT be what causing issues? i usedto have it hooked up to an XP and it worked fine, then when I changed it over to the Vista pc, everything went to pot.
Does ANYONE know what to do?? I would appreciate any help, i really dont want to have to buy a new iPod if at all possible...

This forum is for 3rd generation nano problems, not 1st.

  • Yet more TagLibs problems

As jato2 still doesn't know about some HTML4 tags like <label>
    ex:
    <label><input type="radio" ... />TheLabel</label>
if you click on "TheLabel", it clicks on the radio button, like every

I thought I would be able use the <label for=""> as a workaround
    <input type="radio" name="choice" id="choice1" /> <label
    for="choice1">TheLabel</label>
BUT despite it generates several tags, <jato:radioButtons> sets the id
attribute to the same value for every tag :< This not only defeats my
workaround but also id main purpose to uniquely identity elements.
We really need a generic mechanism to specify attributes when jato tags
    generate multiple HTML tags.
I can still change the generated tags in endDisplay but it be neat if
the 201 taglib was a little bit more XHTML compliant and savvy ;)

Give me until monday and I'll have what you "ask" for (WML/XHTML
    Basic/Mobile as well as ViewBean).
    Following Todd advices,
for the former, I am having new tags to render the same components. I
may need to write new components but I'm not sure yet.
for the latter, 1 pagelet per "rendering" type with an inner
ContainerView when the logic is different ; the pagelet tags being
surrounded by a homemade tag that "activates" the pagelet based on the
client type. A specialized tag seems better than <jato:content> as the
    logic is wired.
Further step would be to make the tags client aware but I'm not sure
yet it is the right thing to do. Are tags "allowed" to store data in
the session (to avoid computing client type ever and ever) ?

May you elaborate a little bit on complementary tags vs components ?

Until the 2.0 taglib is documented, you can use the 1.2.1 JATO

  • IPod Nano Problem with Turning On

Right I've got a bit of a problem with turning on the nano. I know it works because when its on it's fine, but if its off for a while (i.e. 30 mins or more) and I go to press play or whatever, nothing happens. But if I press any of the buttons about 100 times it will come on and work fine.
Has anyone had this problem and know if there's anything I can do about it. It seems like the buttons don't work properly, but it can't be that because they work when its on.
    Here's what I know it's not:
    Battery (its full)
In need of a restore (tried that)
    Reset (tried that)
In need of new software (just put the latest on)
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
Oh also, completely off subject just trying to kill 2 birds with one stone, how do you do backwards deletes on a mac (i.e. what the 'del' button does on a PC)?

    AliasailA, you are kidding, right??
You cannot use someone else's serial number or Apple Care Plan--it doesn't work that way.
I noticed you had another post that said the mini was given to you and has a "sad face icon" and out of warranty. Hummmm.
You really have to send that mini in for repair/replacement or consider it a lost cause. Maybe it is time to buy an iPod Nano for yourself.

  • Progressive Nano problems

I have a nano that currently as a uploading problem and an LCD screen problem.
Pertaining to the LCD problem, It's not cracked, but simply doesn't display any information and stays blank. I assume that to fix this problem would cost me too much and that apple can't fix the problem. I found a dent about 1 cm in diameter. The problem started in Feb 2006 and about 25% of the screen worked. Gradually, it worked less and less till now it displays nothing. Is there anything I can do?
Next thing is that whenever I try to upload data through software beyond a initial restore, it displays a message that the Ipod data is corrupted. But when I upload data directly to the ipod, if doesnt give me this problem.
I have brang the Ipod to a local Apple store and they said this was a problem they have never seen before. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

The Apple store clerk told me that I could send it in to be fixed, but he doubted that they would repair it and suggested I find a third party company to fix it. Well, those repair cost from a third party for a replacement LCD was more than I thought it would be worth. Personally, LCD is not really important to me aside from the battery life remaining and menu selecting. I had to estimate on where I am for both.
Regarding the second point, I can ONLY add songs if I do a complete restore of my IPod and anytime after that point does the corruption problem resurface. The corruption seems to make it unable to play songs or sync correctly. The data is still there when I check the space remaining for data. The only way I have been able to add songs is to use ipod updater and use restore function to go back to factory settings and re-add all the songs.
Anyways, if I dont add any songs and just use the USB for charging and Disk use, it seems to work fine.
Also, I might note that a friend of mine had a Nano that suffered much more damage and he brought his nano to the Apple Store and they replaced it. I personally believe that the 1 cm dent could be my fault and I am more than willing to live without a working IPod nano screen, but the uploading issue is becoming a great annoyance. I am fairly sure whatever "traumatic" damage that made the dent couldn't of caused the corruption problem.

  • Nano problems with Alarm clocks(lik e Luna or others)

I have a new nano 4gb, and an Xtrememac Luna... My old ipod 2nd gen worked perfecly, the new nano has problems instead.. When my alarm function lit the ipod, it does not play the song, but remain in pause... The nano wakes up, but old nano started to play the song, this stands in pause. Why this? Can I hope in a fix or something? many people have this problem...
    Possible solutions?
    thanks in advance

Since there was no reply from Apple so far I called their service today.
The claimed that this problem was not known with the devices which they are selling and that they can't tell about 3rd party alarm clocks.
Big news! Who would have thought of that answer?
Well I then called the manufacturer of my alarm clock which is called "auvisio", one of these cheap copies. They knew about the problem with the nano 3G on thier device and said that they can't offer a solution so far. They offered RMA which I would say is quite nice of them but it doesn't help me much with my wake-up-problem in the morning.
I already settled with the thought that I would have to buy the more expensive Apple stuff but as I read above even Bose seems to have the problem. Complete confusion.
Hopefully firmware 1.0.3 will be released soon and can finally solve these problems. Release 1.0.2 definitely was a step into the opposite direction...

  • Nano problems - unable to update/restore

I saw a thread on a very similar topic, and I'm rather hoping someone bright like Casper could help me as well!
For some reason my Nano was showing the sad iPod icon (I'm guessing this is related to using the Logic3 speakers, as I never had any problems before). I diligently followed the instructions in the ipod/support and made the download of 28.6.06 so that I could update and restore.
Here's the problem! The updater cannot find my nano to restore - all I get is the 'unable to mount (??) ipod'.
So what do I do? I've tried resetting, updating, re-booting, different usb etc etc and nothing works. I even tried uninstalling the latest update and using the one from January as suggested by Casper, but not being a whizz on computers I couldn't work out how to uninstall them.
Help!! Like a previous subscriber I am also leaving for my holidays later this week.
Any assistance would be massively appreciated!
    Thanks

Thanks btbaz, I had been right through the various
suggestions in the web to no avail.
I tried re-formatting, but this did not work. I tried
putting my nano in 'disk mode' but it didn't want to
know. In fact I had given up on the whole thing!
Then, some six hours later, I thought I'd give it
another go, so I threw my daughter off the computer
and tried once more. I saw a reply from Casper Gemini
to another thread, and I tried once more, and yes, lo
and behold, I achieved disc mode status, and yes, I
could even format, and yes, I managed to restore, and
yes, I've just this minute re-registered the nano and
I'm in the process of copying the songs back across!
I couldn't be happier, unless of course those
professional mumpheads had actually managed to
convert a spot kick from twelve yards with no
defenders present . . . you know what I mean!
So thanks for the suggestion, and thanks to Casper on
the other thread. Fingers crossed that my Logic3
speakers don't trip the ipod up when I'm on holiday.
Perhaps I'll make some CD's, just in case.
Enjoy the rest of your evening . . me, I'm going to
indulge in a glass of wine, and maybe a small
    cake!

this is starting to make me wonder why i decided to buy an ipod. maybe it was a big mistake...

    hi Disgruntled!
can you describe your problem more precisely, please. are you getting an error message during the installation? if so, what does it say?
did you get a successful install, but now can't get itunes to launch? if so, are you getting an error message? what does it say?
is itunes just sitting there doing nothing when you try to launch it? if so, are you running Norton Internet Security 2005?

  • 16 gig nano problem- nike+ did not work when photos were loaded by iTunes.

I recently got a lovely new purple nano for my birthday which appeared to work fine right out of the box. I let iTunes fill it up with a random selection of music and then there was no room for photos, but that was fine.
I used it for 5 runs without problem, but today, every time I tried to start a workout, the nano would reset itself. Luckily I could revert to my trusty old nano.
The first 4 runs had taken place without much customisation of the nano, and then I decided to choose my own music instead of having iTunes do it for me, but I also let iTunes choose and load photos on it. The 5th run seemed to work ok after this customisation, but that was it, attempting another run made the nano reboot itself.
I have since deleted all the photos and Nike+ worked just fine again. I then chose to upload just a few photos, instead of letting iTunes fill the nano up, and again Nike + is working fine. So I've fixed my own problem, but thought I would post in case anyone else is having similar problems

    Jochemd,
Since Black Monday, I have now deleted cookies, cleaned the cache and deleted all Temp Internet files 4x. I am on IE7.0.5xxx.x, on an XP-Pro SP3 laptop. All of the problems mentioned in my original post have continued, totally unabated.
If you have a suggestion for me, please share it. I will try about anything now.
Please note that, related to my OP, everything worked perfectly on Sunday PM, and well into the day on Black Monday. Since then, the issues that I outlined haver been present, and have not changed. The issue is not on my part, though I will attempt to correct anything on my end.
The pleasure of helping others in these fora has been greatly diminished. I'd guess that about 10% of my posts used to include screen-caps, to direct the various posters, to the correct Panel, switch, Tool, or fly-out menu, to solve their problem. Now, all of my screen-caps have to go to queue. I have about 1500 of them in my Adobe folder, and add more, as the questions come.
I can live with having to do Block Quotations a half-dozen times, and can Backspace out of those line breaks, but my camera icon is part of my life. Over in the PrE forum, I posted on Saturday afternoon, and that image just came out of queue tonight! Think about some poor Adobe user, lookng for the fix to their problem, with maybe a family event, at which they are hoping to present a DVD, and my answer has been in queue for 2.5 days.
We do, what we do, with little thanks, and no remuneration, and it should behove Adobe to help us, help other users - ones who have given Adobe their $, and only want their program to function. We, the forum subscribers, can often help them, and save the bacon. That is something that the current Adobe T/S cannot do. Maybe next quarter, but not yet.
Please help me to help others in the product fora.

  • One more time - problems with fans

I realize this is but one of hundreds or possibly thousands of cases of Mac users being plagued by fan noise problems, but to me it has been a long and extremely frustrating saga. I have been a Mac user since the very beginning, through different versions of Macs and iMacs, and this is the first time I ever refer to a Macintosh as a "piece of junk."
I bought my iMac G5 in August 2005, a 20-inch ALS with 250 GB hard drive and 512 MB RAM. It worked perfectly until January this year, when all of sudden it shut down by itself. Freaked me out completely. Turned out to be power supply problem (EMC 2056) which Apple never informed me about.
I brought it to a repair shop that fixed the intermittent shut-down problem. I also added 1GB memory. But then the fans started to go berserk. Before the power supply problem, I only heard the fans whenever I used a large program like Photoshop. For the most part, it was a very quiet machine. After the power supply was replaced, within minutes of turning the iMac on, I could hear the fans spinning faster and faster, stabilizing at around 4400 rpm and did not stop spinning until I put the iMac to sleep or turned it off, regardless of CPU usage or software being used.
I checked the discussions at this forum (over 500 posts, no real answer) and did every "voodoo trick" suggested: I reset the SMU dozens of time, cleaned the inside of the iMac and around the fan area, did apple hardware test (everything was fine), monitored temperature and activity with XRG (average CPU at 160F, hard drive at 113F), cleaned out caches, tested for corrupt preferences, re-installed the original OS 10.4 (which only made the fans louder), upgraded it back to OS 10.4.9. I also removed the additional 1 GB memory, thinking it might be a bad piece. It didn't help.
Finally, I requested fan replacement from Apple and got them. I installed them last Sunday and now the problem is even worse! Within SECONDS of turning it on, the CPU T- Dio soars to around 170F, even while the machine is still stone cold to the touch. The hard drive temperature now averages at 117F, CPU fan is never below 4000 rpm (4400 rpm 98% of the time), even at 5-8% CPU usage.
The fans themselves are much quieter because they're brand new. But you can still hear the hums and whirs and it drives me nuts. More seriously, my iMac is now narcoleptic. If I use it too long (a few hours on a stretch) it will put itself to sleep, apparently because it thinks it is overheated. And when I use Photoshop or Illustrator, the awake time is even shorter. Depending on the outside temperature, at the most I can only use them for about an hour at a time. Two days ago we had heat wave, and even with the air conditioner running full blast in my study, the iMac kept falling asleep within minutes of using Illustrator.
Right now I am using TextEdit and no other program is running. Uptime is 59 minutes, average CPU 9.6%. CPU T-Dio is at 168.8F, hard drive 117.5F, CPU fan at 4400 rpm. I am out of ideas and before I do something drastic to this machine, if anyone knows what's going on with my iMac (I know every case is different), please help!

    iMacG5 ECM 2056   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   20"/2.0GHz Power PC/1.5GB DDR SDRAM/250GB

I do not have the solution... but the same problem with a nice iMac G5 purchased in July 2005.
    My Mac operated very silently untill 6 month ago;problem MAY ( I am not sure) have started when I upgraded to 10.4.10 ; even with few applications and low CPU usage (80% or more inactive), it seems that I have the following regrettable chain of events;
==> the CPU temperature is quite high ( 60°c to 72°c most of the time, ie 140-160 °F)
==> resulting in fan turning at high speed ( 2.000 for CPU and system, 2500 for HD), and changing speed all the time
==> resulting in a noisy computer
I am SURE this was not the case 6 month ago, and I suspect it is linked to my upgrade to 10.4.10.
I did all sorts of reinstall, authorization repair, SMU reset, fan clean-up with no sucess.

  • Please Help! More Capturing Problems.

I'm having some trouble capturing footage from onto Final Cut Express HD.
Whenever I try to capture, the footage plays on my screen for about a second, freezes and I get this error message,
"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and you clip has been saved."
I am left with a five second clip from my tape for my trouble. This has only started happening recently, I am using the same setup that I have done before when it was working. I can capture with no issues on imovie.
I have called tech support and they sent me a link that shows how to reinstall final cut and delete all the user preference settings. I have tried different tapes, different sources for saving footage and I still have the exact same problem.
Any more info you need please ask. Please help me, I'm pulling my hair out!
    Thanks!

Well, I've captured before when the external drives have been connected, but I disconnected them and retried after resetting everything and I still get the same error.
I've also tried resetting the settings on my XHA1 and deleting all the preferences for final cut express, all the receipts etc. And reinstalling and still I get the same error.
I am shooting in HDV and have tried capturing with both 'HD down-conv' on and off, comp out is 1080i/576i (as it's always been). Set my FCE setting correctly? I've been through preferences and system settings, apart from selecting easy setup>DV-NTSC Firewire Basic and making sure there is space on capture scratch, anything else I need to look out for?

  • 3rd Gen Nano-Problems with iPod Clock Radio.

    Hey All,
I'm having problems w/new Nano and an Alarm Clock Radio for iPods.
    1) When the alarm time is reached, the iPod display lights up like its been triggered, by the alarm clock base, but music doesn't play. The unit then reverts to the beeper.
    2) The unit is made by SDI Technologies, the same people that make the iHome models of Alarm Clock radioes. They've told me that Apple needs to come out w/an update/fix.
    3) Does that sound right to all of you?
Has anyone heard about a time frame for a revision past 1.0.1?
    Thanks, Tom

    Thanks GunnerJr,
I had an appt. at my local Apple store yesterday. The guy was helpful but felt that it indeed was a firmware issue that was occurring. He couldn't say when the next update would be rolled out but said they're pretty frequent based on prior Apple products.
Apparently the redesign of the Nano is from the ground up and very thorough. The firmware in the clock radio is probably kind of dated back to some time in '06. Hopefully the software/QA people will get wind of this issue and arite it into a future update. Certainly not the biggest issue they'll deal with but hopefully sooner rather than later.

  • Major Nano Problem - Please Help

I have a 1 GB iPod Nano that worked fine when I got it in May 2006. Now, however I have a major problem. I put my iPod on the computer to charge through USB and when it was finished I could not safely remove. Actually, the iPod was not recognized by my computer or iTunes at all and the screen keeps flashing the apple logo and will not turn off until the battery runs down.
Here is what I did to try and fix. Reset and restore. I also tried to put the iPod in disc mode. When I put in disc mode my computer recognizes the iPod and it is shown in iTunes but when I safely remove, the iPod remains in disc mode and I can't get out of disc mode unless I reset and then I am dealing with the flashing appe logo again.
    Could someone please help!

I'm thinking that the nano is the cause of the problem and so i "think" tou showld send it back for the cost of it and buy a new 2 gig one.
