More Safari weirdness

In addition to the bug I've chimed in on elsewhere in this forum (Bookmarks Bar doesn't appear when opening new windows), now the Tab Bar is displaying weirdness, as shown in the screenshot below.

Resetting Safari, trashing prefs and ClickToFlash (the only enhancement I've added) has no effect
Message was edited by: Dino Ilarde

Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • More reel weirdness

    Hi Everyone -
So I have a few projects that I built on one machine and now I need to move to a new machine.  Folder structure is exactly the same as it was on the original box - and preferences in terms of frame rate (everywhere you can enter frame rate) are exactly the same.
So when I open the .ircp on the new machine predicably all of my reels are offline - however when I try load from desktop I get the warning message that the frame rate of some of the reels doesn't match the current frame rate...blah blah blah.
What's even weirder is if I had the clips to a blank timeline they go in just find but if I try to rebuild or reload the reels from media thats online I get the same message.
This is extremly frustrating because I can't seem to move projects around from machine to machine.  I've verified that all media is 23.976 and that all of my projects are also 23.976.
    HELP!!!!

  • More iPod Weirdness......

    Hi,
I posted the other day concerning problems of waking the iPod. I usually have to force sleep and then wake before a selected song will play.
I did a restore and it was no avail, the problem still occurs but I have encountered further "symptoms" or clues. First it seems to only do this when using in my car with a cassette adaptor. Could this mess with it's head? I also noticed that the plug of the cassette adaptor is a a bit looser and sometimes works it's self loose resulting in lost fidelity of sound.
    Part 2 Weirdness
When I plug it into my Powerbook it used to go straight to "do not unplug" with slashed circle icon. Now it does that initially but will revert to just the large "charge" battery icon. When I "wake" it, it goes to the menu as if not plugged in. It will then go back to the charge battery then go to sleep/dark screen. iTunes recognizes and I can make changes via iTunes. Not too odd but it didn't do this till the restore.......
    Weird little gadget....
    Warren
PS ALL software is current and no issues elsewhere.

  • Macbook Pro slow start up, freezing on Safari, weird things on iTunes

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro and it's never seemed to operate optimally. It's slow to start up and sometimes freezes on Safari pages. ITunes is difficult to navigate and does weird things. I haven't done the latest update because we don't have Wi-Fi at home. Could it be that or could I have a hardware problem? Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari weird fullscreen bug

I've got a window in fullscreen mode in Safari that's causing all kinds of weirdness.
With no other windows open, whenever I use the App Switcher to go from another app to Safari, the window shows briefly, then the OS switches to System Preferences with the Desktop & Screensaver pane on display. (??)
Same behavior when I select that window from Safari's Window menu. This behavior persists even when I quit and relaunch Safari.
The problematic window doesn't stay onscreen long enough for me to click the widget to exit fullscreen mode and close the window. Anybody know *** is going on?

  • No More Safari

    Hi All
Having read many posts regarding SSS and general poor performance from Safari I have decided to download Camino as a browser. After many months of Safari Im now liberated and can expect high speed uncomplicated browsing, has anybody else used the Camino Browser ????
    Stuart

Having used Safari since its release, I have mostly found it fast and stable, especially since the 2.0 realeases. I have posted here about Safari's apparent slowness of late but I have traced my problems to service slowdowns and possibly a network issue. I use Safari at work and home and find fast and stable.
The domain forwarding issue remains but this is a provider issue not a Safari issue per se. That being said, provider issue or not, it remains a huge issue for those who host sites ( mine being on .mac ) who wish to have a business relateddomain name and use a forwarding service to do so. It is also frustrating that the issue is reported by the user base and not technically discussed at length in any of the usual forums such as McNN or MacFixIt despite being alerted to the problem. These forums seem to be putting more emphasis on Firefox issues than Safari, which is clearly the superior browser and still my browser of choice. I take comfort that the installed Safari base is small compared to the combined base of Explorer, Firefox and others but it is
an important issue which needs to be resolved.

  • Safari weirdness: "can't connect to server", jumbled websites, no images

For the past month or so, Safari has been acting strangely.
When clicking a link on a website, when the new tab opens, I'm often given a "safari cannot connect to server message."  Sometimes reloading the page resolves the issue, other times it is impossible to get to the page. (This has happened on a variety of websites: WordPress, Amazon, Apple.) If I copy the URL and use Chrome or Firefox, the link opens. So, it doesn't seem to be associated with the website, but with the browser.
Also: I get weird website layouts, like this (notice the upper left corner, and the way the Amazon images are vertical rather than horizontal)--
This has also happened on other sites, but, again, opening the URL in a different browser works fine.
I have tried deleting cookies, cache, turned off extensions, made sure that Java/Flash are up-to-date.  I'm at a loss....
This also happens on my iPad Mini2 , though it has not happened on my iPhone5

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    2. Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Test.

  • More Safari Slowness

[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; Please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]
There is a real problem with Safari that is not just isolated to something on one machine. I have seen this issue on several Macs. It seems to have been doing this since 10.4.4, or possibly 10.4.5.
When I open a certain number of tabs, or Windows, Safari will suddenly grind to a halt. Looking at processor usage via command-line top command shows me that Safari is using upwards of 85% of processor time. The spinning beach ball and sluggish performance concur with this. Doing such things as changing tabs, changing windows, or even scrolling sends that beach ball into spinning mode.
I have done the usual things... emptied caches, dumped icons, repaired permissions, etc. This is DEFINITELY a problem that was just introduced in one of the last two updates, because it did not do this before. Furthermore, it is doing this on more than one machine.
This combination of websites opened in as a tabset is sufficient to get Safari into this crawling mode.

    Skip, et al . . .
Do you have ANY third party "Internet Enhancing" apps on there? Programs like SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer may need updating. Also Norton apps and Virex can cause havoc.
Also, here's a good list of basics:
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. You might want to check all three "auto" preferences in Safari. Sometimes those lists gets very long and need pruning. (I turned all autofill boxes off, and have no problems.)
    4. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    5. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
    Hope this helps

  • More filtering weirdness

Hi all: I am still seeing an issue on our BM3.9sp2 box running on NW6.5sp8 and eDir 8.8.5.
I have two credit card machines, one in subnet 10.1.x.x and one in subnet 10.2.x.x which is across a wan. Here are the filters I setup:
    10.1.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    10.2.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.2.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.2.1.98
The credit card machine in the 10.2.x.x subnet works fine while the machine in 10.1.x.x does not.
So I tried the old turn of ipflt and see if things work trick. Instantly both machines worked fine. So I turned ipflt back on and again only the one machine worked. For kicks I again turned of ipflt and guess what, only the one machine worked (10.2.x.x). The machine at 10.1.1.98 would not connect even with ipflt unloaded. I repeatedly retested and even with ipflt off the machine on 10.1.x.x would not connect.
    Weird. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris.

    1. If traffic is always started in one direction, then you only need one
    filter and make it stateful.
    2. Are you using imanager or filtcfg to create the filters? did you
check in filtcfg/configure interface options that the nics are correctly
    defined s public and private?
    3. If you unload ipflt and still fails, load pktscan.nlm on the server
and take a lan trace to see where the traffic fails.

  • More Sound Weirdness

I managed to connect external speakers to my MacPro (via the audio jack on the back of the machine) and finally figured out how to get them to work. And they work just fine except for this one problem.
Whenever I go to print a file, no matter what program I am printing from, I get a loud ping alert from the external speakers. It's not the sound I have selected for alerts. It's a different one. And it's obnoxiously loud. It happens for a few other computer functions as well. I'd like to turn it off - or at least dampen the volume - but I have tried every sound tweak I could find and nothing works.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Nevermind.....
I went back and noodled around some more. Turns out the problem occurrs only in Microsoft Office applications and after fussing with the Help menu for a bit I finally figured out how to turn off the sound. (But, oddly, no way to keep the sound but lower the volume.)
Just in case someone else should have this problem: In Word go to Preferences (Note: a Word file must be open in order for you to do this). Then to General. Then clear the "Provide feedback with sound" checkbox.
    Adios.

  • More multicam weirdness - CC

Okay... I have an unusual multicam with an even more unusual problem.
We are making short videos for a Spanish class.  These are mostly three cameras with additional, non-sync audio for each of the main actors.  Each video is shot in short takes with a little overlap that need to be put together in a multicam sequence.
I used the new audio sync feature to (successfully!) sync up about 70 files.  They auto sorted into a dozen different multiclips and, for the most part, Premiere was close to perfect!  This is wonderful since my Spanish is "no muy buena"!
I opened each of the multiclips in the timeline.  It is important that I include the audio from each of the actors so I turned all of the relevant audio tracks on.  I selected the best take from each multiclip and pasted these into a new sequence with the intent of making that into a multicam sequence the old fashioned way.  I suspect this is my problem.
When I drag this new nest to the new item icon I get a single video and audio track and all of the audio tracks play at once (all very good).  BUT when I enable the Multi-Camera most of the audio tracks (all of the useful ones) go away even though they were happily playing muxed in the nest before I enabled Multi-Camera!
Any ideas on why this is happening or how I could proceed differently?  I'd really like to use the multi-camera feature but it will be difficult to edit each little piece and then bring it into a finished sequence.
Here are some screen grabs to help:
My original, hand-made, nest called "ALL_techshop"
The new item created when "ALL_techshop" is dragged onto the new item icon.  All of the audio channels that I have turned on paly simultaneously
Enabling the Multi-Camera turns off all of the useful channels:

There may be a new cool simple way or button to take care of this, but if I understand your post correctly...did you try option+selecting just the video tracks only and then right-clicking and selecting "nest" then right-click again and select multi-camera>enable. That is how I used to do it on CS6 and it worked recently on CC. That way your video is nested all on one track but your audio remains untouched. I don't know why when you did it some of the tracks turned off. Might be something simple that's not being toggled on or off, not sure. But you can try what I suggested for now and see if it helps.
HOWEVER...please be aware before you start your multicam edit that there is a huge, giant, ugly, ridiculously unacceptable bug with multicam in Premiere Pro CC right now that has essentially broken the multicam experience. If you don't know about it, read about it below or you may be left losing hours of editing work:

    Good luck!

  • More Safari & 10.4.7 problems

It seems to be going around.
Last Wednesday I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6. Shortly after I rebooted I did a “software update” and among the things installed was 10.4.7. Shortly after that, I found that Safari is virtually useless. I am here via Firefox.
I can’t get any jpg files, sometimes no gif, and evidently it’s not pulling down links either because half the time when I click buttons I get transported to various “not found” errors. As a matter of fact, the Safari activity window is littered with “not found”.
Safari is 2.0.4. I downloaded the 10.4.7 combo & reinstalled. I’m not having unsupported color conversion requests. The “libJPEG.dylib file” is the correct size. I repaired permissions. MIME settings are correct. I’m allowing images to open. in fact, I’m allowing anything to open; flash, pop-ups, java, etc. If I found it somewhere, it’s allowed.
I did send a bug report to Apple when it first happened and I couldn’t access my photos at Flickr, but that was before I realized how extensive the problem is.
This happens with any account with Safari. It does not happen with any account and Firefox. I never had any problems with Safari before this week.
Any other ideas, anyone, before I explode it off the dock and forget about it? I’ve been screwing with this for hours, I’ve rebooted over half a dozen times, I’m tired and I’m going to bed. See you tomorrow (or today?). Thanks.
    dual 2.5 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    “Curiouser and curiouser, . . . “
OK. I fixed it. The non-functionality of Safari was a result of an old problem I’ve just been living with.
For some reason, my Safari cannot connect to the internet without “Earthlink Total Access”. ETA was bundled with the computer when I got it last year, and since I didn’t have an ISP, I went with the free trial and stayed with it for a few months. When I got DSL and canceled Earthlink, I still had to have ETA running for Safari to work, so I still had it launch at startup. I updated ETA, reset Safari, rebooted, and now apparently it’s working fine.
This problem (ETA) is for another thread, but I’m posting this here because someone else may have an interdependent conflict of which they may be unaware, and it may give them a possible track to pursue.

No. Home computer on wireless (airport).
Just started happening yesterday... day before? Reset Safari and emptied cache. Seemed to setle down a bit, then boom de boom boom.
Of course, after I crashed this AM and went to work, came home and so far, no crashing.

  • More safari crashes

Safari is crashing at startup just like all of the other posts however none of the former answers have helped me. Here's my bug report, maybe iBod can come through once again?......Please?

    Hi MCEngineer,
Your crash log looks almost quite similar to superloaf's in this discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=255623
In their case re-applying the Security Update 2005-009 package seems to have done the trick for them. Give that a try.
I highly recommend reading the article Ferd pointed you towards as well. Crashes can be caused by a myriad of causes, so what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.
Let us know how things work out for you. Good luck!
