More than 5 AFP clients to 10.6.4 iMac

HI,
I have the following problem.
I'd like to use an iMac with Mac OS 10.6.4 as a central Server for Time Machine Backups of 13 other computers in a little office. All computers are supposed and configured to use an USB-Hardrive coonected to the "Server"-imac as theit TM Backup destination. Everything seems to work, on the USB-TM-drive have been sparseimages created, that are used for Time Machine of the single clients. But as soon as I try to connect more than 5 clients to the Server, I get an error code that no more connections are possible. Is that a limitaion of the regular Mac OS 10.6 and could be solved by using Mac OS 10.6.server ? Or is it due to limitations of bandwidth, because the complete transfer is via a WLAN n network with approximately 130 mBit/s ?

I always thought that the limit without using OSX Server was 10 connected users. Perhaps the system treats the AFP connections differently.
The advantage to OSX Server is that you can connect as many users as your hardware will support.

Yes, you can use multiple iCloud accounts in multiple User Accounts on one computer, but, as you know not multiple iTunes Match accounts. Keep in mind that the two services are not the same.

HT201317 How do I upload photos in my iPad/iPhone 5 photostream more than 30 days old to my brand new iMac iPhoto?

I just bought a new iMac 21.5" and am uploading all my music and pics from my external, iPad and iPhone 5. My iPhoto in my iMac only uploaded the last 30 days of pictures in my photostream, and I've got like 5 months worth of pictures in there that I want on my iMac. Is there a way to load all of them at once by adjusting the time limit of how far back it loads, or do I somehow have to transfer each picture individually to my iMac from my iPhone/iPad?

I would recommend you enable Shared Photo Streams on all your devices, then on your iOS device(s), go to Photos > Camera Roll > Edit, and tap all the photos you want to send to the Mac. Then hit the Share button and choose Photo Stream. Enter in your own email address and complete the steps. Then open iPhoto on the Mac and click Photo Stream in the sidebar. You will see the album you just created appear, double click it and your photos will begin to download. Once they're all there, select them all, right click, and choose Import. All your photos are now stored locally in iPhoto, and you can delete that Shared Photo Stream.
Or you could plug your iOS into your comuter which will open iPhoto and will allow you to import the photos, if you don't mind not doing it wirelessly.

Further to requiring more than 3Gig of Memory

I thought users would find this interesting and maybe a person familiar canshed some light on this subject.
I have a 20 minute video with a combo of Pictures/ Sony HDV Video/ Shake and Motion. Producing an IDVD movie works fine however when I try to compress it to "H.264 60 minute default" there is FCP crashing and the compression terminates. In watching the RAM usage I notice a couple of things. First the Page outs are Zero until suddenly after about 6000-8000 frames the page outs grow rapidly and the Green RAM indicator shrink from 2 gigs free to virtually 30-60 megs and the page outs grow to the hunders of thousands. Sometime after this happens the FCP application will crash. Second, I have also noticed that the Compressord shows up from the time I start the process and shows red..."not responding". The Final Cut thread also moves in and out from Not responding. It almost appears as though the Compression processes faster than the computer can handle and then gives up. I Realize I require more than 3 Gigs of Ram but my previous IMAC never crashed doing a similar priocess with 2 Gig or Ram.

FCP RAM requirements, and for that matter, those of "Pro" apps, far exceed the memory needed for the likes of iMovie. All of the iLife apps are written in a way as to work across the board on Apples product line. The Pro apps are engineered to operate like they should...... capable of using a ton of memory, and expecting it. When they don't get it, they resort to paging to the hard drive. You may be able to "cripple" FCP by lowering the memory usage in Preferences, but why would you use a program with all that horsepower, and not feed it the memory it needs? If it works in iMovie, I would use it until you can add the appropriate amount of RAM the article hatter posted suggests. Just my two cents....

for this purpose let us put aside security concerns and other potential problems....
-- Get the content of a server directory with Filter and create zip file
1) create a class that implements java.io.FilenameFilter ...
2) define accept() method ...
3) call File.list() with the filter as a parameter. The returned array of strings will have all the names that passed through the accept() filter
4) use java.util.Zip to create ZIP file on the server side
-- I think it is better to create this functionality as a separate Java class, put it in required folder and after it
-- use Forms->Program->"Import Java class" to create pl/sql wrappers, than to create wrappers for all classes and code in pl/sql
5) use webutil to transfer file on the client
6) use Java on client side to unzip transferred file
if you think this is not too complicated, you should try ...

Powershell and Client Object Model - no error thrown if user is added more than once to same site or group

I am trying to add a user to a SharePoint site using PowerShell like below:-
New-SPUser -UserAlias MyDomain\jan20a -Web http://SPServer/sites/MySite
If I execute the above more than once, SharePoint does not throw that user already exists or something. This is not the same behavior in AD/Exchange PowerShell cmdlets.
Also, even the client object model behaves the same way.
Another interesting thing I noticed, I tried to remove a user from group in which the user was not part of it at all and still no error..!!
Looks like SharePoint does not care of invalid input and just ignores it.
Can anyone please confirm this and also the reason behind it ?

It's not really invalid input, since the user exists and that is how SharePoint behaves (will behave same way in browser). Try to input a user that and misspell the name, e.g. say you didn't have a MyDomain\Jan21a, then try to use same script above,
only with invalid data. It will bark at you. Or try using a web that it cannot find, one that does not exist. You'll get what I like to call, the red badge of courage if you enter invalid data.
you can test that sharepoint will let you enter a user twice in the browser, and nothing bad comes from it. Powershell is just unable to tell that the user was not in the site, when you removed it the second time.

Can a session EJB be accessed by more than one client?

Hello,
I would like to have an instance of a persistent EJB which is accessible by more than one client and which will not be destroyed after usage. Apparently session beans can only be accessed by one client and are created every time they are accessed. In my case this creation is quite time and resource consuming. Is it an alternative to use an entity bean instead, even if the logic of the bean doesn't have anything to do with direct database access?

It seems to me that what you want is exactly a session bean will do. The EJB container is responsible to maintain a certain number instances (configurable) of your session bean and serve multiple clients at the same time. Session beans are not necessarily destroyed after serving a client. If you configure your ejb server to have a pool size of 2 to 100, then you will always have at least 2 instances (no more than 100 even there are a lot of client access) of this ejb ready to serve. The only thing not clear to me is that do you want to use only ONE instance of this bean or you don't care as long as multiple clients can access this bean's service? Since you mentioned that there is not a real database access, you can certainly use a Singleton but a 'regular' session bean with static fields should do it also if these fields will not be modified by clients.

Using Sharepoint Client Object Model with large libraries (more than 5000 elements)

i have issue with acccessing large list with more than 5000 elements. I use a Sharepoint Client Object Model.
It worked till yesterday when in the list was less than 5000. Now there is in the library more than 5000 elements. I have changed in the Central Administration limit for list from 5000 to 10000, but it helped only for list views. Script returns now 0 records.

How do I distribute apps to clients in house (more than a hundred)

I'm currently wanting to distribute apps that plugin to software we have developed for our clients (more than a hundred).
These apps are not for public and don't want them to be.
1. How can I distribute them?
2. Do I have to enroll in iOS Developer Program or iOS Developer Enterprise Program?
3. Do my clients need to enroll in the iOS Developer Enterprise Program?
Can somebody please help with this, it has been differcult to find infomation on this.

1.) The 100 device limit is for testing, not end-user/client distribution. As noted/linked, Apple's B2B/VPP will do what you want, but only if you and your clients are in supported countries.

I am basis person and i have installed BI 7.0 netweaver 2004s system , also business content 7.03 are done.I have given 001 client as BWMANDT field in RSADMINA table which is required for initial config. Now system is working fine for deveopers. Now i need to connect one more customer to this BI system.
And i need to provide access to them using different client apart from 001.
I wanted to know is it possible to work in more than one client in BW
If yes :---- should i add one more entry in rsadmina table , will RSA1 will work in that client too.......

what could be the reason?
secondly if i am able to do client copy from 001 to new client
do i need to add this new client to rsadmina table along with 001

How to prevent executing more than one client from a machine?

Hi all,
Currently I am doing a client server project in java. The client is java swing. There is a requirement to prevent executing more than one client from a machine.
Now I am relying on socket for this. I listen to a port, say 15000 and when the second session is started it would give an exception at the socket. I know that this a trivial method. Can anybody please suggest a better method. Also is it possible to bring focus to already executing client, if the user tries to execute the client program again in the same machine?
An early answer to this question is highly appreaciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I dont think we can use socket for this. And again if we use file for the same as you described, I think it would sometime create a some serious side effects. Suppose after one client session is invoked, the power goes off. In this case the client shut down is not in the normal sequence and hence we cannot remove the file programaticaly. This creates big problem when the user tries to run client again.
I am really interested to know, is there any standard way in java which can be used to achieve this. Also is it possible to give focus to already executing client program if the user tries to invoke the client again.

The tricky part with this is that Move-Item won't create missing folders, which you need if you want to maintain the folder structure, so you'll need to create those manually. This should do what you need.

No more than 10 client computers appear in WSUS 3.0 Admin Console

I installed WSUS 3.0 SP1 on our SBS 2003 R2 Premium server a few days ago. I've noticed that the WSUS admin console will never display more than 10 client computers at a time. In fact, I've got roughly 16 clients that get used daily.
I've used the ClientDiag.exe tool to confirm that an invisible client actually does has connectivity to the WSUS server. Group policy settings have flowed through to the clients as well. When I took a quick look at WindowsUpdate.log, it seemed to confirm connectivity to the WSUS server as well. If I run: wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow on an invisible client, the client will then show up in the admin console, but at the same time, a previously displayed client will disappear from view. 10 clients seems to be the upper limit for admin console viewing.

This is a classic symptom of duplicated SusClientIDs caused by cloning an image with an already present SusClientID.
Delete the SusClientID registry value from the registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
on EVERY PC
and reboot (or restart the Automatic Updates service)
and THEN run wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
which will force the WUA to generate a new (unique) SusClientID and reregister with the WSUS Server.

i have two VIs where one is the server and the other the client in TCP/IP. I need to send more than 2 strings to the client at the same time.i have used the XML method but then by using XML i cant send any thing else to the client because of the byte sizes. so either i need a new way to send the strings or a new way to send more data. i have attached my VIs to this post if you need to take a look.

Well, after looking at the code it is very difficult to understand what you are trying to do. Not to be nasty or anything but your code is a mess. Did you know that in both VIs you have an infinite loop? The only way to exit your VIs is to use the Abort button. This is bad since it doesn't allow you to actually perform any type of cleanup. Your wiring is very difficult to follow. You should also avoid using local variables to pass data through your application. If you need to pass data between two parallel processes use queues, notifiers or an action engine. You can get rid of all of the sequence frames that you have. They aren't really doing anything for you and are unnecessary.
As to your particular question I would have to assume that it is simply a result of bad coding that is preventing you from sending more than one string. You have logic in the second loop that appears to be impossible to get to since the conrol used to switch the case statement is placed on a hidden part of the front panel. Take a look at the TCP server example I posted in this thread. The example is on the second page of that thread.
In order to help you I think you need to provide a good description of exactly what you want your server and client to do. You also need to do some code cleanup to make it readable and easier to follow.
