Any clue what could I be doing wrong for this to happen ?

I tried to switch between all the various options (render RGB, 8bit yuv, ....) of the render. But did not notice any significant amelioration if any at all.
here's an expample of how he quicktime player renders the image as intended and fcp doesnt.

  • Motion project appears with

I'm having a problem with Motion projects imported into a Final Cut Pro timeline. A thin black bar appears over the top of the movie. This is consistent across multiple Motion and Final Cut Pro projects.
    An example is at http://homepage.mac.com/alan.stonebridge/motionfcpissue.png
    Any ideas?

If you want to use vector artwork in Motion and have it scale with continuous rasterization, create them in Illustrator, then save as .ai or .pdf.

  • Motion Project Not Working In FCP

    Here's what happens:
In FCP, I send a clip on the timeline to Motion. After I'm done with it in Motion, I save the project file and quit Motion. When I go back to FCP, the Motion project file in the timeline is unrendered (like it should be). If I put the playhead over the clip, I can see a frame from it, but when I render it, all that plays is black. Any idea why it does that? I end up having to export the video from Motion and import it into FCP, which is a real pain.

Sorry if this should be posted in the FCP forum. I figured the problem is associated with Motion.

I still hold the opinion that when trying to use an unsupported hardware/software configuration, problems will arise. From the Final Cut Studio 2 Tech Specs page:
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
While some things may work, your configuration is not officially supported. It seems that you've already discovered a work-around for your situation by exporting directly out of Motion. In my limited experience with Motion, particle generators require a lot of processing power, in this case, a hefty graphics card. Even with our ATI x1900s at work, adding particle generators can really bog that card down.

  • Corrupted Motion projects in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi.
I have just installed Final Cut Studio 2. I have opened a project I've been working on with previous version ( a DVD Studio Pro project with Motion files loaded ) and I have found that all my Motion projects appears with all the layers desplaced or just corrupted. Any solution to this? I still feel that Apple is treating us like "betatesters" instead of profesionals. Hope that some day I take something from them out of the box and it works as expected ( from the beggining, not many monthes later )...
    Hugs
    Antonio

    Antonio:
Exporting the Motion project as animation will be easier and without quality loss. You can use that moie in DVDSP or to Compressor to encode to mpeg-2.

  • Motion Project does not look good in FCP

I am using FCP 5.0 and Motion2. I made a lower third title graphic in Motion. When I embed the clips back into FCP they look pixalated. They do not look as good as they did originally. Does anyone have a solution?

    Hey,
Here's the result from last night. The quicktime file is good. It seems that Motion projects in FCP, even from rendered QT files, don't display their true image.
My output this morning for my project is flawless. Even though the timeline looks horrible.
The reason this seems to come up in this forum again and again, is probably that Boris 3D, FCP's titles, even LiveType, all display their true clean rendered image in FCP. Motion, however, doesn't seem to do that.
My guess is that it hangs on to a thumbnail representation for FCP of the rough draught render that motion must create so you can place your motion project in your FCP timeline live. (you know, you can switch back and forth and update a motion project and it updates it in FCP. )
It just doesn't say that anywhere that I was looking.
So, if anyone else is creating Motion projects and importing them into Final Cut, be aware that what you see in Final Cut is not what is going to render in your output. It will be full resolution and without the alising that appears in FCP's timeline.

  • Motion Project Rendering in FCP

I'm using FCSP 2 and trying to import a Motion project into FCP. The import works fine but it says it needs 8 hours to render a 30 second clip from motion. I know this cant be right as I have done it before without this much hassle. any help would be great...on a tight deadline.
    Thanks
    Ryan

After upgrading from FCS1 to 2, I too noticed the increased render times. I've done some testing, and found a solution that will cut your render times in half. In FCP, go to either the sequence settings or user preferences/RENDER CONTROL, and under RENDER QUALITY, uncheck "always use best" and set the render quality to normal. This is a new feature in FCP 6, your choices being "draft, normal, best."
From rendering the same motion file, as "normal" and as "best" the quality difference is negligible. In fact the "normal" rendered version actually looked sharper. The "best" version seemed to be smoothing edges so much that they appeared blurrier than the "normal" version.
FYI: I'm working in 720x480 DV-NTSC codec in FCP, with my motion files set to 720x480 DV as well. I'd imagine for mixed resolution rendering, especially for a motion file that is scaled in the FCP timeline or of higher rez than the timeline rez, that "best" quality would give better results.

  • FCP wont open motion projects on tileline anymore

I have been using the FCP suite by creating motion projects and imoporting the project file onto my fcp timeline, I really like doing this it cuts out allot of wasted time. However I just installed the new itunes and the new quicktime update and suddenly whe i try to change a motion project in fcp via "open in editor" teh OS crashes. says I need to restart...AHHHH.
    Any ideas?
    I use FCP 5.0.4 and Motion 2.0.1

Ouch. The OS crashes? Kernel panic? Also read what TheXlab has to say about kernel panics.
It sounds like the QuickTime update might be the source of your problems. I don't know if FCP 5.0.4 and Motion 2.0.1 are friends with QuickTime 7.1.3.
I would take advantage of the $99 crosscrade offer while it's still there

  • Problem with importing a Motion project into FCP if it uses a Boris filter

Had an odd and highly frustrating experience. Was using a Boris Continuum filter (the posterizing one) on the background of a Motion project (was using it to age a background of a brick wall to age it and give it a more 'nighttime' look).
When I imported the file into FCP to use as an intro there, the background disappeared entirely. After an hour of troubleshooting, finally figured out that it was the Boris filter that was causing the problem (it also was probably responsible for the random crashing of FCP I was experiencing), as when I disabled the filter and re-saved the project, it worked beautifully.
Is this a 'normal' problem when using Boris filters? Do I have to export every Motion project into a Quicktime file before importing it to FCP (and possibly DVDSP) if it uses a Boris filter?

Thanks! Now the frustrating thing is that the client doesn't want to use what I created after all...bah humbug
It's not the RAM (which is either 8GB or 16....not sure on that computer). Got an e-mail from Boris Support that implied that this will happen all the time...that you have to export all projects before you use them in FCP or DVDSP or the Continuum filters won't work (loved how the support person suggested that I just use the filter in FCP...which defeats the purpose of creating something in Motion! But I digress...) Told me I had to buy a $500 program called Automatic Duck to get things to import properly...and that Boris filters won't work with the latest upgrade of FCP, btw.

  • Edit Motion project as Motion template in FCP timeline?

    Hi,
I'd like to know is it possible to turn basic Motion project into Motion template in Final Cut Pro timeline? If not possible I think this would be a great feature because it simply takes too much time to copy motion projects for example to 10 edits /library/motion... folder to have them accessible as templates. I know it wouldn't be possible to see preview videos this way but I wouldn't care. Motion templates are a great tool but this way a little bit too slow to use for simple text animations etc.

In FCP, right-click the Motion project and choose open in editor. In Motion, choose save as template.

  • Motion project imported into FCP looks different...

I have a Motion project that moves 17 magazine covers across a background. When I preview it in Motion it looks great, but when I import it into FCP the mags overlap and run into each other. What could be happening during import and is there a fix??

I'm posting in response to my own question because this may actually be a bug. When I import the Motion project into FCP with the Motion layers locked, the animation is altered. When I go back into Motion and unlock all the layers and import into FCP, the animation is perfect. No kidding, locked tracks and the animation is funky, unlocked and it's fine. Anyone ever stumble on this??

  • FCP opening anamorphic motion project files as 4:3

I have a 720x480 anamorphic motion template which I need to place in a 720x480 anamorphic FCP sequence. FCP is automatically distorting the template, when I open it in the viewer (prior to dropping it into the timeline). It looks 4:3.
When I drop it in the timeline, it is squished. The distort value is 33%. Anamorphic is unchecked in the browser. I know how to fix it once it's already in the sequence, but seeing as I have several hundred of these templates to use, I'd prefer to have FCP open it correctly.
It does the same thing with motion project files, not just the templates.
Anyone know a way to correct this in FCP?

Ok, but for my workflow, I need to use motion templates, not project files. There is no way to correct this in the browser for a template. I need it to just come in 16:9.
If I want SD footage in a 16:9 format (pillarboxed) what size do I make the sequence? Should it be some custom size that is not anamorphic, yet still much wider than tall?
I need to standardize all my sequences (whether they are 16:9 footage or not), so that I can use one set of motion templates, which will be 16:9. Should the motion templates then be created in this same custom size?

  • FCP 5.0.4 won't recognise Motion projects any longer

Wierd thing - I can't import Motion project files into FCP 5 (v5.0.4).
When I try to import standard files, they are greyed out. When I try to force an import, I get the message: "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
Nor can I embed motion content if I try to send clips to Motion from within FCP.
I haven't tried this for ages (like 18 months), when it DID work on my machine.
Hmmmmm. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance!

    Yeah.
Backup what you want to keep, then install the OS using the "erase and install" feature found in the Options button once you select the drive to install the OS on.
Then run software update to get to the latest... then install the studio, and run SU again... to get to all the latest software... It's a pain, but should really be done as a routine once a year or ANYTIME you upgrade the OS, like from Panther to Tiger...
I keep two drives in my CPU, both are startup disks. That way, I can reformat the older OS once I'm sure I'm happy with the new, and have copied all the files I need to keep between them... it's easier that way, and I have the ability to reboot on another system drive if need be.

  • Motion Project clip in FCP clip does not export

    Dear All,
I edited one clip from FCP 06 sequence with Motion Project and replaced the original clip with the motion project version. I did frame blending effect on the original FCP clip, which had 25% slow motion applied (constant) through FCP. After the clip was replaced with the new one, I exported the whole sequence from FCP to a couple of formats through Compressor (a custom DVD and a custom H.264 formats), the fragment where the Motion Project clip supposed to be did not show the effect of the frame blending. However it shows fince on the timeline in FCP.
    I will appreciate any suggestions,
    Izabela

    Hi Izabela,
Did you render the Motion effects in FCP prior to sending to Compressor? Are you using the 'Send to Compressor' (Not that that is wrong, it's just so I know your workflow)?
If it's just the Frame blending that is a problem for you just check your sequence settings in FCP. With the sequence window selected do Cmd-0(zero) to open the sequence settings. In the Render Control tab under Master Templates and Motion Projects, change the Quality to Best and tick the box underneath.
Now check to see if the Motion clip has become unrendered. If not, double click it and in the viewer goto the Motion tab and change the scale then back to it's original setting (just to unrender the clip). Now rerender the clip and retry your send to compressor.

  • Rendering issues with imported Motion project in FCP

I have various titles for a DVD prepared in Motion that are imported as project files into Final Cut Pro.
When playing back the rendered timeline in FCP to a TV, the animation on these titles (scaling and moving of text and untextured, 100% opaque rectangles) looks fine. When I render the timeline to a QuickTime (DV PAL) they still look fine on a monitor, though obviously not a great test on a progressive display.
After using Compressor (and a suitable preset for PAL content) and burning to a disc from DVD Studio Pro, the animation is jumpy. Some elements in the project with a Fade In/Fade Out behaviour with Fade Out duration set to 0 suddenly disappear for a short period (looks like one frame) - these objects end on the timeline in the same frame that their Fade In/Fade Out behaviour also ends.
If I render the Motion project to a QuickTime file with transparency and overlay that in FCP then follow the same route through Compressor and DVD Studio Pro everything looks as I expected... smooth motion and no disappearing elements.
Any ideas? Should I just keep rendering Motion projects out to separate files to overlay in FCP? That seems a bit of a waste of the integration between FCP and Motion.

    This gives me pause: AEManager::scanForPluginsInDirectory(PCString) + 1011
I'd check for any third party plugins...

  • Motion projects look like VHS junk in a FCP timeline

Pro Res 422 sd FCP sequence, field dominance none. This is viewed through a Kona LHe on a Sony PVM-14M4U.
I have a bunch of Motion animations with particles and text. Video processing is set to 16-bit float to avoid banding on a bunch of gradients. When I edit the project into an FCP timeline, the result is a stair-stepping mess on every element much like VHS. If I export a self-contained movie from Motion, it looks like it should in the FCP timeline.
So the obvious answer is to export a movie for each animation from Motion and while I'm not adverse to that as an answer, I'd really like to know why a Motion project is looking so awful in FCP considering the project interchange capabilities that are supposed to be within FC Studio 2.
I am most likely missing something very simple as I am the King of User Error.
