Mountain Lion screensaver won't start

All of a sudden, screen saver won't start (set to start in 10 minutes). The hotspot will kick it off, but not just waiting 10 minutes. I did recently create a "root" user so that I could change the default login screen saver.

Shut down and start up holding Command , Option, P, and R.
Wait for the chime to sound twice

Mountain Lion Messages won't connect / go online

For the last few days Mountain Lion Messages won't connect / go online. Prior to that it would disconnec at random and it would be difficult to make it connect again. But now it's totally refusing to go online.

I solved the problem, with the help of a friend!
Turns out, even though Messages in Mountain Lion won't prompt you about this in any way, there is a difference between your @mac.com email and your @me.com email.
Messages on Mountain Lion has an iChat built in, but is actually at the same time a new protocol which does not use AIM like iChat. So, it's both AIM iChat and something new.
As soon as I added a new account inside Messages on Mountain Lion with @me.com I could reconnect and all is fine.
Apple, this is a lot less obvious to the end user than you might think. You have switched online services a few time and it always gets better and better. But Messages in Mountain Lion should prompt the user to add the @me.com address if this is required to use the software!

How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable.

Running mountain lion, display won't sleep

Anyone else have this problem ? I don't know if its a macbook retina issue or mountain lion issue, just want to see how common it is. The screen won't turn off even after I set power preferences to turn off when idle for 2 min. When I try to force it to sleep from apple drop down menu, the screen turns black and freezes.

There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:

AFTER UPGRADING TO MOUNTAIN LION IMAC WON'T SHUT OFF

I have upgrade to mountain lion and update to 10.8.1 but it seems that sometimes (enough times to make me seek for help) safari won't respond . Moreover itunes refuses to turn its self off when I want to restart the computer. Any ideas what is going on with that upgrading that we have been waiting for so long and now is causing me troubles??

hallo, yesterday. after having installed mountain lion I had to repare the disk from a message of disk verify in disk utilities. I restarted pressig R and I repared the disk. Everythings was ok.
Today I tried to start my MacBook Pro pressing shift button but after few minutes - 2 or 3 - while about one third of the startin procedure was done, simply the Mac switced itself off.
When I tried to simply start - not switching shift - the procedure restarted with the same end. I also tried to start in repare mode with no results.

The mountain lion installer won't let me install on my Macintosh HD

I've downloaded the installer for Mountain Lion, but it won't install to my HD. I use a separate USD drive for Time Machine, which I ejected before trying the install (it wouldn't work before I restarted after trying with the USB drive attached).

Mountain Lion Upgrade Won't Recognize AOL password

I just upgraded to mountain lion and aol won't recognize my password. Gmail and iCloud no issues at all. Driving me nuts. Quit and tried again-no luck. Rebooted-no luck. Installed latest version of aol for mac-no luck. Unchecked SSL-no luck. Any suggestions

Which versions of Office? If you upgraded from Snow Leopard and you're on Office 2004, you're out of luck. If you're on a newer version of Office you should be OK.

I reallt love my lion screen saver which come with lion but they don't seem to be in Mountain lion. Is stil have lion on another machine but can't find photos there either. Can anyone help me migrate the screen saver pictures that come with lion to mountain lion. Thanks

After recent update to Mountain Lion, trash won't empty completely; says "item" inuse

After recent update to Mountain Lion, trash will not empty completely. Always an item left in trash, and I get message that the "item is in use." Right now, using app Trash it! to get rid of that left behind item.

Try rebuilding Trash and see if that sorts it...
Launch Terminal and copy & paste these commands:
Go to /Applications /Utilities/Terminal and launch it.
At the prompt, copy and paste this command
sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
Press Return.
You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will be invisible.
Enter it and press Return.
Log out and back in or restart.
Let us know.

Mountain Lion Calendar won't launch my Applescript

I've just upgraded to Mountain Lion and find that my previously automatically launched Applescripts, open but do not run.
In 10.6, to run scripts unattended, I just created an Ical event with an alert that ran the script.
This event was saved in the upgrade. My script still works, but now Calendar just *opens* the script. It doesn't run it.
So where are you supposed to schedule things like this in Mountain Lion?
For those who care - what the script does is copy text from a Safari page and save it to a text file.
I need it to run every half hour.
It doesn't run anymore, unless I am there to click the "run" button when calendar opens the script.

Installed Mountain Lion--Pages won't launch

I get an error message that says Pages failed to launch because of DIVX Decoder.component (library/quicktime/divxdecoder.component) Pages was working fine before installing Mountain Lion.
This is on my 2009 Mac mini. I just bought a new Macbook Pro that came with Mountain Lion, and Pages works fine on that, even though the divx decoder.component was copied from the Mac mini during an 18-hour Migration Assistant file transfer marathon.
I haven't got a clue on how to fix this.
Help. I've got a 52,000 word manuscript in Pages on the Mac mini.

Thanks Peggy, your suggestions worked. I used Disk Utility to repair permissions; but the repairs were to printer and frameworks items, not QuickTime Divx decoder.component. So I don't know if the permissions repairs did anything to resolve the problem.
I also removed the DivX decoder and encoders and relaunched. I suspect this was the fix.

Which versions of Office? If you upgraded from Snow Leopard and you're on Office 2004, you're out of luck. If you're on a newer version of Office you should be OK.
