Mountain lion will not download to my MacBook

Purchased Mountain Lion in the App store from my MacBook Pro (early '11 version).  All software was updated.  Would not download, instead got a window stating that the product distribution file could not be verified, it may be damaged or was not signed.  Tried to download it to my iMac and it worked just fine.  Also, after NEW updates on my MacBook, Safari will not open.

I have this problem also. I was able to download Mountain Lion to my daughter's Mac Mini without any trouble. However, I can't download this to my MacBook Pro. I have read other sites that suggest VirusBarrier is the problem and recommend turning it off in VirusBarrier>Preferences>Advanced. I have tried this and it still doesn't work, although some report that it has worked for them.

Mountain lion will not download thru the apps store.  It has been purchased and redeemed.  I have set my energy settings appropriately so computer will not turn off during download as Verizon offers a connection that is very slow.  I have set the display to go to sleep (which I have set so I have to sign in again).  When I sign in again, Mountain Lion OSX has disappeared from the launchpad.  I have tried this several times.  I do have Norton Internet Security on my Mac Air.  I turned off the idle time scan on the Norton and tried again.  Same results.  Anyone?

Ask anyone around here, and they will tell you quite differently. AV software will slow down your computer, can be incompatible with software you use, can cause kernel panics and other problems. It is unnecessay since OS X has it's own protection built-in. AV software can no more tell the difference between safe and unsafe sites on your browser than could an elephant.

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)

My download took many many hours.  Not sure if that is because of our ISP or load on the network.  I also thought nothing was happening for my download.  Try this:
    Open App Store,
    click on Purchased
You'll see Mountain Lion being downloaded and it will show the progress and estimated time to complete.
Take deep breaths and be patient.

    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
You need to provide more information about what happened when you tried to download it. Please provide a full description since "all grayed out" doesn't tell me anything really helpful.

  • Mountain lion will not download on mac air.

I have a late 2010 mac air, purhcased mountain lion, clicked download and all it does is show me the circling icon at the top of the app store but does not proceed to download it. I can click it as many times as I like but it will not download!! I have restarted computer!! Very frustrating!

    Figured it out. Thanks.

  • OS X Mountain Lion will not download

I'm trying to download OS X Mountian Lion update and it will not download on my Mac Book Pro. I've purchased it and it says it's "downloading" although in about and hour the download progress bar has not moved. I've tried restarting the computer, pausing and unpausing the download, and nothing seems to help. I meet all the minimum requirements. I even took a look to see if my Macbook needed any software updates, which it didn't. Anyone have any advice? I've used the App store often to buy things so I don't know what's going on?

So you have a Retina or Air MBP. In that case Apple sells a thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.
But that may not be yor problem. It is not that you can't download MT Lion over yor WiFi connection, it should work just fine, but if the WiFi drops out for any reason the download will just stop and not continue. So it is best, In my opinion, to Wire the computer to the router.
Just saying "I have the same problem" doesn't really help in trying to help you. What happens when you start the download? How fast is your internet connection? The MT Lion download file is 4.3+ GBs in size and will take from 30-40 minute to multiple hours to download depending on how fast an Internet connection you have.

Mountain Lion cannot download, need help. Says "The product distribution file could not be identified it may be damaged or was not signed". What do I do?????

If you have Intego VirusBarrier X6 installed
    1. Open /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.
    2. Click on the "Surf" button.
    3. Click on the "Ad Banner Filter" tab.
    4. Click "OFF" next to "Banner advertisement filter".
    5. Start the computer in Safe Boot, then restart the computer into normal mode.
If don't not have Intego Virus Barrier installed
    1. Verify that the date and time is correct on the computer.
    2. Safe Boot once, then restart normally, then try downloading again.
    3. Try with a different user account if the issue persists
    If the issue persists
Install Lion onto an empty partition (internal or external).
Note: You can Use Disk Utility to live partition the internal drive and create a second partition large enough to install Lion.
Start from the clean installation of Lion.
Download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Note that the original startup disk can be set as the destination for Mountain Lion during the installation process.

  • OS X 10.6.8 - Mountain lion will not download. Error: "We could not complete your purchase."

I am currently running OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac (model identifier iMac11,1). I have purchased Mountain Lion so that we can run Adobe CC. I have been advised that Mavericks is not compatible with our proxy server.
When attempting download from the Mac app store I receive this error:
"We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
The following is shown in console when attempting to download:
    28/11/13 10:07:24 AM App Store[1824] *** Assertion failure in -[ISDistributionManager verifyDistributionAtURL:allowsDevSign:error:distributionController:], /SourceCache/Pisa/Pisa-60.8/Source/ISDistributionManager.m:146
Please help! I have read many discussions and there doesn't seem to be a fix for this as yet. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

The following article pointed me in a better direction:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20081398-263/os-x-10.7-cannot-be-installed-on-certain-drives/
I tried to go the partition route, but for some reason the operation failed.
I decided to attempt a Lion install again afterwards anyway, but once again it failed, but now my whole system was hosed and could not revert back to Snow Leopard.
I did a restore from time machine. Once that completed, I attempted to install Lion again, and ta da! it works now.
    What a pain.

  • Mountain Lion will not download

I have purchase Mountain Lion and click the Download button but nothing happens.
Anyone got a fix? I have tried this on 2 different Macs.
    Thanks

No, I don't see the download in the launchpad or the blue progress on the launchpad icon. I suspect that it is a disk space issue. I am investigating and will let you know.

  • My OSX Mountain lion will not download because I have "no support"

I have a Macbook Pro, I bought the new software tonight and can't download it, help please!

I think the subject line and the signature is the necessary clue.   Tjh14, your signature says you are running 10.7.5, this is just plain old Lion.  Mountain Lion is 10.8 and above.   Am I correct in assuming that your software says it needs Mountain Lion 10.8?  If it does, then you need to upgrade to 10.8, which is a paid upgrade.   You also need to make sure everything else you have is Mountain Lion compatible and backup your data before upgrading.

  • Mountain Lion will not download from app store

I have a new macbook pro running Lion, and I tried to download Mountain Lion from the app store yesterday.  it downloaded partly and but then the download seemed to stop. So I disinstalled the partially downloaded software and tried again. But when I try, the icon says "waiting" and the actual download never begins.  I've tried several times with the same result. What should I do?

You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. Call them and they can coach you, the phone number is in your owners manual.

  • Mountain lion will not download fully

i have downloaded it approximatly 2 months ago from app store it says im running on osx 10.8.2 but nothing has changed from my prev system  and in my purchases it keeps saying download so i click on download it says im running on 10.8.2 already continue ? yes.. but the download doesnt complete and still no change to my system
    any ideas?

You're using OS X 10.8.2, so you don't have to download the Mountain Lion installer. The download button appears when you haven't got the OS X installer on the hard disk

  • Mountain lion will not download from the app store. what do I do?

Please help. Purchaced mountain lion upgrade. shows up app store under purchased.  click on download. Nothing happens....My iMac meets all system requirements. Stuck in appland.  Also, I have heard bad things about mountain lion. should I even install? Or can I bypass and go to OS X Mavericks? Confused & afraid now...

If you meet these requirements you can upgrade directly to Mavericks: OS X Mavericks: System Requirements. However, before upgrading I would check the compatability of your 3rd party application at RoaringApps - Application compatibility and feature support for OS X and iOS.
If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
    launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
    3 - try again.
