Mouse Pointer Settings

I have a HPG60-549DX Notebook.  Sometimes when the mouse cursor sits over certain things (but not all things) that can be opened, they open when I don't want them to.  I would prefer that things only open when I actually click on them.  I have gone into the control panel and looked under the mouse options, but can't seem to find anything that appears to control that function.  I am new to Windows 7, so maybe I am just missing this.  Can someone please help?

Have you ever had this external keyboard working with Win7?  As you point out, this is a very old device.
According to the software/driver page for the device, it looks to me like it only has support through WinXP.  There doesn't appear to be a mention of current support in Win7 for this item.
The software for the W530 only seems applicable to the Synaptics touchpad in the Thinkpad itself, not to the external keyboard with touchpad.
Now there is a page for driver/software for this external UltraNav keyboard under Vista, which may possibly be usable with Win7.  You could try it I suppose, as if it's not applicable it just won't install itself.
If this Vista driver doesn't work it sounds like a phone call to Lenovo support is definitely appropriate.
NOTE: I found an article that said through trial and error it was determined that the latest v5kyb04us17.exe driver for Vista (named on the page I provided the link to) didn't work for Windows 8, but that a previous version v2kyb03us17.exe DID work for Windows 8!  The link to that older Vista driver is provided down at the bottom of the page for Vista drivers for the external keyboard.  No comments on usability of either version for Windows 7, so YMMV when trying either of these for Win7.
I'd try the most recent Vista version first under Win7, and if it doesn't work then give the prior version a try.  You might get lucky.   Nothing to lose.

  • Lenovo G550 - Keyboard/Mouse/Pointer Issues - PLEASE HELP Tech suppport couldn't.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support last week to try to solve this issue and it is not solved. The guy had never heard of it and kept researching how to fix it.  I personally  have this feeling that it's a very very simple issue but I can't figure out how to correct it.  I've changed mouse/pointer settings and it still isn't working.  I love my new laptop in every other way but i'm getting so frustrated with it I'm ready to send it back because of the problem with the mouse/pointer.  So if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it greatly.
I will be typing and out of nowhere the cursor will move to wherever the mouse is...or it will highlight everything I just typed and delete it.  I've had to type much slower and keep moving the mouse but when i'm working on my projects and typing away and highlighting/editing, I get into the work and it's a pain in the rear when the cursor suddenly moves a paragraph up and I am still typing away and sometimes don't realize it until i've typed another two sentences.  Hence the typing slower.
Today it deleted discussion posts I had typed up for my online classes before I had hit submit. Causing me to waste another 30 minutes trying to retype what I'd already done.  I was ready to throw this laptop in the garbage.
I decided to not do that and post in this forum in the hopes that someone will be able to help me.
    Thank you,
    Komal

try to un-install touchpad drivers, restart your computer and check if issue persists.
and/or try to flash bios update ( for bios update, read readme file first )

    Hi,
Try this ... reboot your Mac and see if double clicking works again.
Also, you can just select the Application you like to open and hold down the Command+O to open.
Also, did you check your setting for the mouse in system preferences.

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

  • Mouse pointer Problem with CS3 and windows 7

    Upgraded
to a new PC which has Windows 7(32bit) as an operating system. Installed my Photoshop CS3 and everything seems ok except when I magnify in the navagator panel. Once I zoom in my mouse pointer changes to 3 hands in the navigator panel. I powered up my old laptop which has Vista and my CS3
then matched up the mouse settings in the control panel on the new PC. Used the same usb mouse on both PC's, the older Vista laptop worked fine but the windows 7 PC would get a tripple pointer in the navigation panel when I magnified. In the windows 7 laptop I then set the compatibility for Photoshop CS3 to run in XP mode but the problem did not clear. I see in FAQ for CS4 people have complained about tripple cursers in windows 7 but the replies indicated that the recommended fix did not work. Any help apreciated.
    Tom

Thanks for your solution. I by changing the setting to 125% I am now able to use CS3 without tripple pointers.
My eyesight is challenged so the decrease in text is a challenge but I can change the setting when I will use CS3 so I have a workarount.
    Thanks,

  • Mouse Pointer Randomly Changes From Arrow to Pen

A few weeks before I upgraded to Lion, I noticed my mouse pointer started changing from an arrow image, into that of a pen. When I upgraded to Lion, it carried over in the same manner. It doesn't happen all the time and I can't seem to find any explanation for when it happens. Anyone ever seen this? I've checked all the system preferences, including Universal Access and can't find any settings that would have caused it to do this. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the discussions.
Which program or application are you using when this happens?
The mouse pointer changes depending on the type of content on the screen. If the pointer is over a link which can be clicked, it appears as a pointing finger. If it is over text which can be selected, it becomes an "I" (rhymes with "eye") so that you can select text or click at a certain point in the text.
    See Mac Help.
Sometimes it is very easy to unwittingly click the mouse and select something, which can change the screen. The mouse can be quite sensitive. So this may be what you are experiencing.
If you are trying to do a specific thing and it's not working, tell us and we can be more helpful.

  • Mouse pointer snap range

Can anyone advise if I can change the snap range (number of screen pixels around a graphics point) for the mouse pointer. I use a CAD program and need to increase the area on screen that the mouse pointer uses to pick up points etc. With the increased screen
resolution the area (number of pixels) that the mouse pointer needs to be in to find a point gets smaller all the time and there is no provision in the software to increase the target area pixels.
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi Mark
As I know,CAD programs should have related settings in options Dialog Box. You should be able to set the display size for the object snap target box in pixels. You could contact with program manufacturers check on this.
This kind of settings might not come with Winodws, Windows provide basic driver for devices, Manufacturers might offer advanced driver program for their products. You also could download these program to modify these settings such as DPI.
We suggest you modify these settings in your CAD program so it can only affect the usage in CAD.

  • Mouse pointer is well above where it should be on Flash Player.

Every time I use a Flash Player window in Firefox, the mouse pointer is horrifically inaccurate. For example, on an online flash game, I'll be hovering over the top of three interactive boxes, but if I click it will click on the bottom box. It's as if it's cut off the bottom half of the player to click into and only allowed the top half, but when you click in the top half, it responds in the bottom half.
A really odd scenario, hopefully someone can help me out because it's stopping me playing any form of online flash game and that's how I pass most of the time!

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

  • Mouse pointer is unchangeable at 100% scaling in multi monitor setup with different resolutions

Hi there, I have been asked by one of the moderators of the Windows 8.1 forums to post this topic here.  You can see the thread relating to this post here
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-tms/cant-change-the-cursor-pointer/ae8ad8a0-3ded-4810-a3be-794f6c4830a4?msgId=2bd7082f-f5d1-4b01-8c70-e0d2a754d66f&page=1<o:p></o:p>
The problem:  The mouse pointer becomes unchangeable in size, type, trails etc when 100% scaling is used.  As in it reverts to the standard small white non-inverted, no trails,
no shadow 'pointer', no matter what options you select in the 'Mouse' control panel settings.<o:p></o:p>
This appears to be a scaling problem with the Windows 8/8.1 display, not an actual mouse problem.  Judging by my own and other peoples experience it seems to happen mainly with multi
monitor setups where different screen resolutions are used.  The issue occurs typically when 100% scaling for all monitors is used or this option is un-ticked and the 'change the size of all items' is on smallest (equivalent to 100%).  <o:p></o:p>
If the scaling is set to 150% or greater the issue disappears and the mouse pointer becomes fully functional.  Also bizarrely when the scaling is set to 100% if the screen is recorded
using a screen capture program, the recording of the screen shows the mouse pointer selected in the mouse options and not the default small white cursor that is present when recording it.  Here is a link to a video where I explain and show the problem
    happening on my system.  http://youtu.be/xs2cxoeaq-A<o:p></o:p>
I have every update installed without exception, latest drivers etc.  I use a 55" 4k screen with 2x1080p monitors in portrait on either side.  All are connected through 1 Nvidia
    GTX 780 6GB graphics card<o:p></o:p>
    Hope you can help us<o:p></o:p>
    thanks<o:p></o:p>
    Jon M<o:p></o:p>

    Hi Jon,
I'm looking into this issue but it will take me some time to provide a reply.
In the meantime I noticed that you have 3 monitors with 1x 55' and 2x27' - please have a try to only connect 1x27' monitor and see if issue persists.
Also please try to change the screen resolution to a lower size and see if issue persists.
Both suggestions are not solution, I just would like to know if it is related to multiple monitor or screen resolution.

  • Tap clicking touchpad causes mouse pointer to move (ALPS)

Usually when tap clicking on a touchpad, any pointer movements are suppressed as a tap is detected. This does not happen on my Arch machine. Whenever I tap click, the mouse pointer jumps several pixels in some direction.
    How can I stop this?
(Arch is fully updated and since kernel 3.3 my touchpad is detected as "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad".)

  • How to place the mouse pointer over the default button automatically ?

I am not content with the mouse capability in Mac OS.
In Windows I used to have a mouse seetting that automatically placed the mouse pointer over the default button in a dialogue box
Any suggestion for a mouse app for more settings ? is there a free app ?

You might try SteerMouse 4.1.5 or if all you want is this one feature then try LazyMouse 2.5.

  • Trackpad keeps "bouncing" the mouse pointer when I tap to select (MacBook Pro, 15" Retina, 2014)

Hi, I got a brand new 15" MacBook Pro a week or so back and had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer "bounces" off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. Very irritating. Supplier got me a replacement machine, and it's doing the same thing! Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices. Any input would be welcomed.

Migrating user from one machine to another should not be a cause of your symptoms.
Curious two machines in a row. Did this happen before you transferred data/ or di you check.
You have 14 days to return/exchange if you are not satisfied.
You could Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379   but I don't see it.
Did you try making adjustments to trackpad settings

  • When mouse pointer changes from arrow to cursor it starts to flicker

I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop (P500-ST5807).
When the mouse pointer changes from arrow to cursor it starts to flicker. The problem seemed to start after I clicked "hide pointer while typing". I tried unchecking "hide pointer while typing" but this did not correct the problem. I have also tried adjusting the touchpad settings to less sensitive -- this did not help either. I have searched the internet and all types of "cursor flicker" seems to be a common problem.
Would anyone have a simple solution?
Thanks in advance for your help,
