Mouse recommendations

Hello All
I have had it with my mighty mouse track ball... I am always fighting with this thing trying to get it to scroll down, I have cleaned it and, clean it everyday .. it seems to have a mind of its own when it wants to work, I'm really thinking there may be something stuck inside the mouse casing the issue, nevertheless its time to just replace it.
So I'm just looking for good recommendations for a new mouse that will work well on my Imac.
Thanks ..
James

I just like two buttons and a center-click scroll wheel. My preference is for Microsoft's basic optical mouse. They have several basic models with two buttons and a scroll wheel. The one I currently use is this one.

It's solid, it works, it's inexpensive, and it never needs cleaning. The button click, overall weight, shape, and scrolling action all feel good. And you don't need to install any Microsoft driver; it works fine with Apple's generic USB mouse driver. Tip: Apple's preference pane for a generic USB mouse does not have a way to set the center (scroll wheel) click function. However, if you connect your Mighty Mouse and set the scroll ball click as desired, when you later connect a non-Apple mouse with a clickable scroll wheel, the same function continues to work. At least it does with my Microsoft mouse. I have mine set to do Exposé.

  • Bluetooth compact mouse recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for a compact bluetooth mouse without a transceiver for an OSX 10.6 Air? I dont like the magic mouse, and my old Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 that i have for my PC doesnt work so well with the air, but i love its size.

I have the Logitech V270 and it works as advertised-the infamous right click is there. I'd like to program it to some other function but that requires third party utilities. System Preferences won't show you battery life on it but not an issue since it's very power efficient. Realize that it's smaller than the Apple Mouse and has an actual power switch.

  • Bluetooth and/or Wireless Mouse Recommendation?

    Hi Mac People...
I just got a new Black Macbook on Saturday--very happy and would like to find a nice wireless (bluetooth preferred) mouse for it.
I was thinking wireless mighty mouse, but it's white and I'd prefer to have one that is black to match the notebook and my iPod.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

I have a black Logitech v200 cordless mouse that I
absolutely love. With OS X having so much more
available with the control click, Ive gotten used to
having a 2 button scroll mouse. Here's the link for
it on Amazon. I highly recommend it. Only thing is
its not bluetooth, but it lasts a long time. Ive had
the same batteries in it for 3 months now, and I use
    it everyday.

This one looks nice.... I'm going to put it in my shopping cart on Amazon for now and unless something better comes along, this one looks like a winner.
Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions all...

  • Bluetooth Mouse Recommendations?

Does anyone have any ideas on a good mouse to buy?
2 weeks ago I killed my BT Mighty Mouse by using some instructions on the 'Net on how to open up the MM and clean the ball. Unfortunately, there was no warning that one could possibly damage the MM that it would be rendered useless.
The only requirement I really have is that it doesn't have a dongle to hook up, thereby negating the whole purpose of going wireless and using up a USB port.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Mouse recommendation...

Would like a good Bluetooth mouse for my MacBook Pro.
    - light
    - sleep more to minimize battery usage
    - 2 button (I mean true physical buttons)
    - stable
I dont like the mighty mouse (hate this virtual button thing)
Tried the logitech V470 but didn't like it

Do not use Mighty Mouse! These are the worst engineered mice you can get and then they dont even work well. I advice getting a mouse from target. Not to be broad, but I can't remember what it is called. It's about 3 inches from front to back. Very small mouse. I have two and they work wonderfully. I leave it on and hardly ever have to change the battery.

  • Wireless mouse recommendations?

I just got a Logitech mini wireless mouse for my mother's clamshell iBook, after a few frustrating minutes I realized that the usb plug was way too big. I'm going to have to take it back to the store tomorrow. So do any of you know of a good usb wireless plug that actually fits?
    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. I solved similiar problem with a USB flash memory from Kingston that didn't fit; due to molded case design of iBook, with a 3" USB cable. This is cheap, easy to carry, and works in a pinch when required for any other USB device you may need to adapt. See for example: http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&id=ID138371&partno=7 0615&search=USB&rsite=g.usb2&rcode=
If Mom does not travel with the iBook a Hub as above would also work.
If you shop around you can find another Mouse with a more standard connector that will fit directly. I use a three button one from Macally that fits fine ( no adaptor) and requires no software to run in OS 10.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent mouse?

    Hi,
I am looking for some reliable mouse recommendations.  I have a Logitech MX 1100 now but the pointer has become very inaccurate.  I am not sure if there is a way to fix that.
    1. Wired
    2. Wireless
    3. Bluetooth
    Thanks!

Logitech Anywhere MX. Only problems I have with the 2 I own is the scroll wheel is not as positive as other Microsoft mice I've had.

  • Mighty Mouse, Programmable Buttons, and Universal Access

I give up. I asked the folks at the Apple Store if I could program the Mighty Mouse such that one of the "primary" buttons could perform a "double-click" and the other "primary" button perform a "single-click" (i.e., so I don't have to push my finger down twice to both select and open an item). I was told the MM was "fully programmable" but if I can't make the thing do that, I wouldn't call that "fully" programmable. Not good for those of us with severe hand and arm problems and any hand surgeon, PT, OT, and ergonomist will tell you that this is a big deal - all the clicking and finger pushing.
Maybe I'm not seeing something or some way to do this, please advise. I have a Kensington old wired mouse recommended by many ergonomists and PTherapists for this reason but thought that with the advent of Apple's new MMouse, Apple would have thought of this and allowed for such programmability in this new mouse. Too bad... I'll likely have to return it unless one of you can tell me how to program one of those buttons to do the 'double-clicking' for me for the price of 1 click.

Can it be programmed, though, such that one click on an item will both select and open it? Please let me know. It seems impossible to get answers to this question from mouse manufacturers. I have now waited almost a week for Kensington to answer me even after calling and talking to a supposed "technician".

  • Android help

     Hello.
I have no Linux skills and looking for help with Android on the Toshiba Encore (WT8A).
The Android 4.4 image (baytrail for ASUS T100) can boot Android on the Encore feels fast and smooth. Some things don't work so I made this post if someone knows how to fix these problems.
The biggest problem is that I can't get WiFi to work in Android (guess T100 have another WiFi chipset).
The other problem is that the image is only displayed on HDMI (external monitor), not on tablet so it is diffcult to use touchscreen, mouse recommended (maybe something that is easy to fix).
There is also problem with Bluetooth, sensors, camera, MicroSD and physical buttons (not high priority for me).
More info and links to Android image here:
    android-x86
If anyone got any info on how to fix these problems or have an updated image for Encore, please post here.
    Dan

    Thnx for reply.
I am afraid I don't know what Supplicant is in Linux. I have very little knowledge in Linux, that's the reson for my this thread.
Android-x86 is an open source project to bring Android to x86 computers (built on Linux). I have also tried for support on Linux forums but it seems there are few active Toshiba Encore owners there, thats why I tried this forum instead.
I don't think what is missing is very complicated (I can be wrong). Someone with knowledge in Linux just need to add the correct drivers and to the install image. I tried the IWCONFIG command on my Encore (booted Android in debug mode) but it didn't work (command missing or I did somethong wrong).
Most "critical" thermal control on the tablet is managed by hardware, not software, so I am not very concerned about overheating. It can always be good to observe how the system is working, if cpu is throttling, gets very hot or consumes battery fast.
Options for Android-x86 can be Intels Android-IA (problem: 64bit UEFI installer) and ConsoleOS (support for Dell tablets but unsure about Toshiba Encore).

  • Looking for a recommendation of a laptop mouse.

Thinking about using a mouse, either USB or wireless, on my iBook G4.
It would have to be small, ideally to use while the iBook is on my lap. Maybe on the flat surface just to the right of the trackpad.
Any recommendations? And I do have bluetooth.

Things like the Targus Bluetooth® Laser Mouse for Mac® come to mind. There are also small travel mice with retractable USB cables. An example is the Belkin Retractable Travel Mouse.

  • Recommendations for good mouse pad for new Magic Mouse?

Hi, I have several mouse pads with a microfiber, but my new Magic Mouse doesn't operate smoothly on them. Sometimes it hangs up, or is slower to move than at other times. I tried an expensive one made of coated glass, but the noise of the Magic Mouse (with its two long strips) rubbing on the coated surface was too much, so I returned it. Any recommendations? Thanks! I have one of these. Works great, looks cool next to the keyboard!

  • Recommendations for a bluetooth mouse?

    Hello,
I've been looking for a Bluetooth mouse for a few weeks now to go along with my Macbook and after coming on here and reading some of the troubles that come along with them, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I've never used an Apple mouse before, never really understood how the one click deal without the "right-click" worked, so i've been looking at other brands mostly. Would you even recommend the Bluetooth mice as opposed to a wireless one with a USB connector? Thanks!

I have the original wireless mouse (one "button") and a Logitech MX 1000 which is not Bluetooth but uses it's own wireless connection to a USB base station. The separate base station probably leaves this out of what you would be interested in for a laptop. However, my comments:
Both Mice work reliably and are accurate pointing devices. The original mouse uses the red laser. The Logitech mouse uses an infrared laser so its working is not obvious from the light of the mouse, although there is a combination activity/battery level LED that let's you know its working.
The Apple mouse is small, about the size of a bar of soap. The Logitech is a large lumpy affair that is molded to the shape of your right hand and fills it up. Some hate the small size of the Apple mouse. Some hate the large size of the Logitech mouse.
The apple mouse has one "button" (no discernable button, but you push on it and it clicks). The Logitech mouse has two buttons on top, a rocker button (3 switches) under the thumb, a scroll wheel, and a 4 way button run around the scroll where for a whopping 9 buttons plus wheel up/down/button of control.
The Apple mouse runs 2 to 3 months before needing to swap its 2 AA batteries. The Logitech mouse recharges itself in its cradle, which it needs about every 2 or 3 weeks depending on use.
My opinion is that mouse choices are very personal things. Some would pick solely on size/confort. Both are reliable. For gaming one-button mouse doesn't cut it, or leaves you at a severe disadvantage depending on the game. The infrared mice are more accurate based on product specs. The Apple mouse is an elegant lump of plastic sitting on your desk. The Logitech mouse is a big lump of Borg technology looking like a kid's toy sitting on your desk.
    Hope that helps.

  • Recommendations for a small portable bluetooth mouse?

Does anyone have recommendations for a small portable bluetooth mouse? There don't seem to be a lot out there.

  • Can anyone recommend and mouse to use with Aperture?

    Hi ,
I have been using the Apple Mighty mouse with my iMac and am looking for a replacement. I have a lot of trouble using the right click on the mouse and am fed-up with it.
I want something bluetooth that will not take up one of my USB ports. I have set the third button to expose all windows as I frequently switch between applications and I like this function with the big screen I have.
Aperture and Photoshop are my main applications so I’m looking for something that is going integrate with those well. I want to be able to zoom and scroll around pictures with ease.
    Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am using a Logitech VX Revolution, actually a wireless notebook mouse but I have small hands, so prefer the smaller size over a regular size.
Apart from the size (which is an individual feature and there is a normal sized version called MX Revolution) it should fit most of your needs. It has six buttons a four way scroll function and a zoom slider. Using the Steermouse 3rd party mouse driver (Logitech's one is known to cause problems) you can individually set all buttons and functions of the mouse systemwide and for specific applications. Speed and accuracy is more than sufficient for my needs.
Only thing is that it uses a proprietary wireless dongle, so you still lose one of your USB ports.
Microsoft also produces good mice (imho their hardware is a lot better than their software , even some with real BT support (they still come with a dongle but you don't have to use it). However, from what I've heard, sometimes it can be a little bit tricky to get them to work with Mac OS X.
    Bye,
    Carsten

  • Can anyone recommend a good mouse...

I want to be able to control Keynote 3 presentations via a Bluetooth mouse. Not just advancing slides, though - I need to be able to go back a slide, go back a build etc as well.
I have the standard Apple bluetooth mouse, but as a one-button mouse, it's not as flexible as I'd like.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance for your intelligent counsel!

I don't think a bluetooth mouse is the best way, there are of course loads of cool ways to control keynote:
Salling Clicker, amazing application for bluetooth remote from your mobile, provides excellent keynote control!
Apple IR Remote, although apple don't ever mention is, if you have a computer with an IR Sensor (iMac g5 / intel / mini / MacBook Pro) the apple remote will control your keynote presentation.
