Mouseover effects not uniform across the menu

Question

I created a simple menu in Dreamweaver CS4 using css. The two menu tabs with drop-down effects have a glitch in the top tier. The Black text on white background turns white on mouseover causing the button to go blank.
Where would I go in the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css file to fix this?

This is where the menu colors are defined.
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {color: #000; background: #FFF}
This is where the mouseover colors are defined:
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:hover,
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:focus {
background-color: #33C;
color: #FFF;}
