Move data from Citadel to SQL Server 2005

I wish to move data from a Citadel database. I have tried to use an ODBC connection to a Citadel database with little success. I can connect and write queries using Microsoft's Excel, but what I want to do cannot be done in Excel (due to Excel's row and column limitations and because I need a "heavier" lifter than Excel) . The data-tag names are longer than MS Access will accept and Visual Studio Professional 2005 connects but no queries are successful. MS Access can open the ALIAS table.
What I want.
I wish the UTC date and time, Data-Tag Name, and data values between start and end times (logical run) for data contained in the RAWDATA table of the ODBC connection. I need to repeat this for the 400+ data-tags in the Citadel database.
An ODBC connection is inherently slow and inefficient and thus isn't the connection of choice. However, I don't know of any other means to connect. I have years of data from which to extract runs on multiple DAS Citadel databases.
Is the Citadel database the best source for this data extraction or is there a "native" LabView database that this extraction process might use for more efficient data extraction?'
Is there a product marketed by NI that will extract this data to SQL Server or a delimited text file?

Thanks Amanda:
Today, I was able to connect from within MS Access via an ADODB connection to the ODBC Citadel database. That is working well so far and seems to be reasonably fast--returned 3 recordsets from the RawData table having about 370; 1,400; and 460,000 records in a little over 16 seconds from a PC with medium power (cpu configuration and RAM availability). The recordsets were ordered but no "WHERE" clauses were involved.
I'll use these recordsets to vet the algorithm I am developing to identify "runs"--there are 19 complete runs and 1 incomplete run at the end of the Citadel database. The next Citadel database repeats runs 18 and 19 and then has run 20 through whatever. The algorithm currently successfully finds the UTC run start date/time. Tomorrow, I'll work on the run end date/time portion of the algorithm and if all goes well Monday will be the big test of picking the data between the start and end times for each run for each of about 370 data tag names.
Thanks, again.

  • Pulling data from oracle into sql server 2005

    hi,
these days i am working on sql server 2005 on windows server 2008 64 bit.
and oracle 10g on 32 bit unix.
my problem is that when i am pulling data from oracle into sql server it shows me about *500-700 entries less*.
why this is happening? is it because 32 bit to 64bit? or is it because of different os?

    Akki,
are you using snapshot or replication from MSSQL? I am doing the same thing, hope to share your experience.
I am using import/export from MGT studio and pull some data from Oracle database, I am working on how to update the changes on these tables pulled from Oracle.

  • Inserting Data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time Basis.

    Hi Everyone,
I need to insert data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time basis, we have to fetch data from oracle approx 20 tables, and each table has more than 30 Fields. I need to fetch data in every 15 mins.
I have created a job using SQL SERVER Agent by writing insert queries for all the tables with conditions that no rows will be inserted which is already in SQL. note that this job is taking only 1 min to execute.
But in this way our SQL Server getting hanged and it giving problems to other application running in the SQL SERVER.
So i m requesting all of you that what is the best way to insert huge amount of data on the real time basis.
    Thanx in Advance.

    1) Create Linked server
    2) insert data using openquery  and set job in sql agent
    3) run job after 15 minutes

  • Migrating data from oracle to sql server

I have two databases(Oracle and Sql Server) in my company.
I want to migrate some data on daily basis from Oracle to Sql Server.
what are the best methodologies used to perform this task?
Can we schedule this task on daily basis?
    please help me guys

    Salma,
First and foremost, you need to understand that there are architectural difference between Oracle and SQL Server (with the major one being the difference between Oracle's PL/SQL and Microsoft's Transact-SQL) thus, it will not be an easy task to migrate data from Oracle Database to SQL Server. As far as the use of tools is concerned, you can utilize the following tools (third party tools not recommended) to achieve this:
Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (Oracle to SQL)
    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration-oracle.aspx
Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench (SQL to Oracle)
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
But before proceeding with anything, I would recommend you to read through the following post as it lists down the primary compatibility resources and migration guidelines:
Migrating from Oracle to SQL Server
    http://vyaskn.tripod.com/oracle_sql_server_differences_equivalents.htm
    Hope this helps.

  • Inserting data from Oracle to SQL Server 2008

    Hi All,
I am using oracle 9.2.0.7 and SQL server 2008 in windows server 2003 operating system.
    My requirment is like below.
    1) I would liek to insert data from the Oracle database to SQL Server.
For the above requirement we have created the ODBC, then configure the listener file, tns file, and created the db link. This part is working fine as I am able to select the data from the SQL Server.
But when I am inserting the record from the oracle database to the SQL Server I am getting the error, (ORA-00904) Here oracle can not identified the column name.
My insert statement is like below.
    insert into test@SQLTEST (name, fullname)
    values ('Oracle', 'Oracle server data');
Test is the SQL server table name and sqltest is the db link name.
If I am select the data
select * from test@SQLTEST from Oralce I am getting the data properly.

  • Migrating Data from MySQL to SQL Server 2012

    Hi all,
I'm Migrating a database from MySQL to SQL Server 2012, using SSMA for MySQL v5.2.1258.  I've got the schema migrated over and have resolved any migration issues (stored procedures / views), but when it comes to migrating over the data I'm just hitting
    a wall.
None of the data is migrating and when the migration report is displayed every table has a red x against it's Status.  The Output box has the following:
    Data migration operation has finished.
    0 table(s) successfully migrated.
    0 table(s) partially migrated.
    64 table(s) failed to migrate.
I've seen on the forum that someone else was having the same problem
    (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlservermigration/thread/b835f4b3-3d93-42a4-9b6b-d21d3dfd8dab/)
I've set the project settings mode to default, still getting the same error and tried using both Client Side Data Migration and Server Side migration, with both giving the same result.  I've tried going through the step-by-step blog as well.
I am doing something really stupid?  There are 64 tables, so don't really want to try doing exports from each table and importing it into the new database.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers
    Alex

    Hello,
I don’t have suggestions for you, but you can try contacting the SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) Team via e-mail ([email protected])

  • Data MIgration from Oracle to SQL Server 2005

    HI Gurus,
Kindly please advice me how to migrate Data from oracle to MS SQL Server or Vice Versa.
I came to know about 2 methods:
    1) Using SQL Developer
    2) USing ODBC.
KIndly let me know which method is better. I am in confusion about both option
    Kindly advice over the same
    Thanks

Usually such questions asked and answered on forums of a target system. In this case on MS SQL forums.
    But I will answer.
You should create a LINKED SERVER in MS SQL that connects to Oracle.
    Then issue couple of SELECT * INTO <TARGET_TABLE> FROM <ORACLE LINKED SERVER>..<SRC SCHEMA>.<SRC TABLE>.
Install Oracle Client and OLE DB driver on SQL Server machine.
Also, Oracle is case sensitive by default. MS SQL is case insensitive by default. If there are primary/unique keys that have mixed case values in Oracle, then in MS SQL you need to set case sensitive collation for them.
PS. If you need not only migrate data one time, but also to have a real time replication during an application transition period, you can take a look on heterogeneous replication solutions like Golden Gates or DataCurrents.

During the lifetime of a database (any db not only SAP Business One) and due to insert\update\delete of data, the information in indexes is fragmented.  Fragmentation exists when indexes have pages in which the logical ordering, based on the key value, does not match the physical ordering inside the data file.  Heavily fragmented indexes can cause slow performance.

  • Extracting data from Express to SQL Server

is there a way to extract data from a Personal Express (v5)
database into MS SQL Server (2000) using a DTS package ? I
haven't found any references to an Express ODBC driver so I
doubt it's possible and I may have to use SNAPI from VB.
    thanks.

    Hi
i am looking after a set of schemas and reports. One report is based on data in an sql server that is periodically extracted from oracle.
How might this be done? I am struggling finding the object that does thisThere could be any number of ways. It could be SQL Server connecting to the oracle database and querying the data directly. It could be a script on the SQL Server server that connects to Oracle and extracts the data. It could be a script on the Oracle server that extracts the data and then pushes it across to the SQL Server server. It could be a completely different script sitting on an unrelated server connecting to both databases. It could be a scheduled job running on the Oracle database that extracts the data and moves it across..... and so the list goes on.
It's unlikely we'll be able to tell you anything as you are the one with access to your servers.
