Move database to the new server
Hello,
I have 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition database (7GB, not in archivelog mode) on Windows2003 server, and need to move it to the new server (same environment). I thought to use OEM Clone option, but it appears cloning to the other host is working only in Grid - and I have DB Control.
I know about manual cloning/recreation, but now looking into export and import option. So I think to install Oracle database on the new server, then import some relevant tablespaces exported from the old database. I will use datapump utility in OEM, under system username.
Is that a good approach ? What rules should be applied to avoid problems in that case ? Sorry if it's very basic question, never moved database before.
Marina
Options for porting the database from one server to another after installing Oracle on the new server incldue
Export/Import using expdp/impdp
Rman duplicate to compatiable hardware
Rman file conversion to non-compatiable hardware
On advantage of expdp/impdp is this option supports reconfiguring the database tablespace/file/object storage layout as part of the migration. Also the adoption of new features like ASSM.
A disadvantage is that using expdp/impdp will probably be slower and involve more DBA work than using file copies via rman. There are approaches to reduce the clock time necessary to support export/import and the work is often beneficial for long-term database management efforts.
There have been threads on this topic before and failry recently. You might want to hunt one or two of them down.

Moving oracle database to a new server with an upgraded oracle software
Hi Guys,
Here is the scenario, we have an existing Oracle 9.2 demo database on a Solaris 5.9 server. I was asked to transfer this to another server with same OS but with an Oracle 10g software installed. The original plan was to mount the exisiting Oracle home from the original server to the new server and from there copy all the database files and bring up the database.
Here are the steps:
- Issue an "alter database backup controlfile to trace", get the script from the trace file
- Copy all database files to the new server
- Edit parameter files
- Do a startup mount recreate the control files, do a recover database, and startup the database on the new server.
I suggested that we to a transport tablespace but due to limited resources and that the 9.2 database does not have this feature we can't perform this process. I also can't do a exp/imp of the database since we really have limited resources on a disk. I was wondering if the steps I enumerated above are correct? Or would result in an error?Hi,
why you want to recreate the controlfile, does the mount point locations are changing from old server to new server?
if you recreating controlfile new incarnation starts, keep in mind.
you have the downtime to upgrade.. :)
shutdown
take cold backup and move to new server.
create the directory structure as exist in PFILE including CRD files.
install software
startup upgrade
upgrade database(need to add sysaux TBS)
shut immediate
startup
*@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql*
change hostname in listner.ora/tnsnames.ora files.

Oracle 10.2.0.3 Databases - Restore to New Server
We will soon be replacing an old server with a new server and I need to restore all Oracle 10.2.0.3 databases to the new server
and ensure Oracle functionality/connectivity with all databases.
I am in the process of testing and need advice and hopefully a 'Step by Step' process I can follow.
I am a systems admin - not an Oracle db admin - so please explain details of any commands I may have to run.
I have already tested once:
ran command prompt: sqplus / as sysdba
SQL>shutdown immediate;
Stopped all Oracle services:
Oracle Database
Oracle Listener
Oracle DBConsole
Installed Oracle 10.2.0.3 on new server
Ensured that the SID and all other Oracle services information matched the old server during installation on the new server.
Stopped all Oracle services on the new server (used the steps above).
Backed-up and test restored to new server.
Enterprise Manager shows: Listener Up Database Instance Down Agent Down
Any help would be appreciatedIt would be good to know your operation system. I hope both new and old match or similar.
You can use RMAN to dumplicate you DB so you can follow [Creating a Duplicate Database on a New Host. Doc ID: 388431.1|https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=388431.1]
but a simple file system copy based manual duplication is also possible if new and old OS system is similar... -
How can I move the distribution database to a new server?
I need to migrate an old distribution database to a new VM. My understanding is that you can detach/attach the distribution DB to make this easier. What are the 'gotchas' in this process? Do I need the detach/attach the system databases as well? The distributor
is facilitating data from Oracle to SQL Server.
Another question.. what are some good benchmarks for figuring out how much horsepower I should have set up in my VM that running distribution?
Thanks,
philHi philliptackett77,
As your description, you want to migrate the distribution database to a new server. Based on my research, you need to remove the replication, create the distribution on the new server, and recreate publication and subscription according to Satish's post.
So you don’t need to detach or attach the distribution database or system databases.
To make this process simple, you could use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to generate scripts and run the scripts to recreate publications and subscriptions or drop publications and subscriptions as the screenshot below. Checking ‘To create or enable the
components’ generates the script for creating the publications and subscriptions, and Checking ‘To drop or disable the components’ generates the script for dropping the publications and subscriptions.
Firstly, please use SSMS to generate the script which is used to create publications and subscriptions.
1.Connect to Publisher, or Subscriber in SSMS, and then expand the server node.
2.Right-click the Replication folder, and then click Generate Scripts.
3.In the Generate SQL Script dialog box, check ‘To create or enable the components’.
4.Click Script to File.
5.Enter a file name in the Script File Location dialog box, and then click Save. A status message is displayed.
6.Click OK, and then click Close. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms152483.aspx
Secondly, follow the steps above, check ‘To drop or disable the components’ to generate the script used to drop publications and subscriptions. Then run the sript to drop publications and subscriptions.
Thirdly, please disable distribution using Transact-SQL or SSMS following the steps in the article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms152757(v=sql.105).aspx.
Fourthly, please create the distribution at the new server using Transact-SQL or SSMS following the steps in the article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151192.aspx#TsqlProcedure.
Last, please run the script generated in the first step to recreate publications and subscriptions.

Why index creation is slower on the new server?
Hi there,
Here is a bit of background/env info:
Existing prod server (physical): Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
RAM: 96GB
CPUs: 8
RHEL 5.8 64bit
Database size around 2TB
New server:
VMWare VM with Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
RAM 128GB
vCPUs: 16
RHEL 5.8 64bit
Copy of prod DB (from above server) - all init param are the same
I noticed that Index creation is slower on this server. I ran following query:
SELECT name c1, cnt c2, DECODE (total, 0, 0, ROUND (cnt * 100 / total)) c3
FROM (SELECT name, VALUE cnt, (SUM (VALUE) OVER ()) total
FROM v$sysstat
WHERE name LIKE 'workarea exec%')
C1
C2
C3
workarea executions - optimal
100427285
100
workarea executions - onepass
2427
0
workarea executions - multipass
0
0
Following bitmap index takes around 40mins in prod server while it takes around 2Hrs on the VM.
CREATE BITMAP INDEX MY_IDX ON
MY_HIST(PROD_YN) TABLESPACE TS_IDX PCTFREE 10
STORAGE(INITIAL 12582912 NEXT 12582912 PCTINCREASE 0 ) NOLOGGING
This index is created during a batch-process and the dev team is complaining of slowness of the batch on new server. I have found this one statement responsible for some of the grief. There may be more and I am investigating.
I know that adding "parallel" option may speedup but I want find out why is it slow on the new server.
I tried creating a simple index on a large table and it took 2min in prod and 3.5min on this VM. So I guess index creation is slower on this VM in general. DMLs (select/insert/delete/update) seem to work with better elapsed time.
Any clues what might be causing this slowness in index creation?
Best regardsI have been told that the SAN in use by the VM has capacity of 10K IOPS. Not sure of this info helps. I don't know more than this about the storage.
What else do I need to find out? Please let me know - I'll check with my Sys Admin and update the thread.
Best regards -
Installation of EBS 12.1 and Database on the same server
Hi,
Due to resource crunch, I would like to do new installation of EBS 12.1 and Database on the same server where already EBS 12.1 and Database installed.
I have one server where EBS 12.1 and Database installed (Single node installation).
Now I want to create another environment for other purpose (another test env.). But I don't have another server .
So Can I start new installation of EBS 12.1 and database on the same server ?
I have enough space and memory on server.
Are the installtion conflict with each other ? any implications happen on the first environment ?
I want my first environment run fine without any prob., after installing EBS and DB on the same server.
Please guide me.

I have enough space and memory on server.Yes you can as long as you have sufficient resources.
Are the installtion conflict with each other ? any implications happen on the first environment ? If you install in different ORACLE_HOMEs you should be OK.

Safely point an NSS VMDK to the new server during transferID
I have two VMWare VMDK NSS Volumes hosted on an iSCSI array for a class, connected to my existing OES2SP3 server. I'm installing a transfer ID server instance OES11SP2 I'd like to to migrate the "locally" hosted vmdk NSS volume over to the new server. (I don't have space to migrate the other two huge volumes.)
So I'm going to install the transfer id server and migrate the main STORAGE volume to it and then remove the two VMDKs from the OES2SP3 VM and install them onto the new OES11SP2 VM. I assume that I do this move after I finish the transfer ID from the old VM to the new VM.
My question I'm hoping to have answered is -> If you move an NSS VMDK to a server after the transfer ID occurs, will the new server have to have the existing NSS edir objects changed in any way or will it simply assume ownership of them when they are mounted at boot? Is it safe to move them after the transfer id or must I do it before. I didn't like the idea of yanking the two NSS volumes out from the old server prior to doing to transfer id.
Thanks,

IF my memory serves (this was a while ago), we did it that way (leave the "old" disk attached). Transfer ID, power off both servers, disconnect "old" disk and reconnect to "new" server. Power up and I think it just worked. I don't recall having to re-run anything in nssmu.
But again, that WAS a while ago. -
Move Publisher backup to new server( Cold Standby Server) ?
We have CUCM cluster consist of 1 publisher, 4 subscriber and have installed a new node like another cluster's publisher(with diferent ip address from existing publisher) . When existing publisher goes down we will move publisher backup to new server and change publisher ip address to new server on existing subscribers.
is it posible ?
Our aim is using new server for publisher down issue.(like cold standby server but diferent ip address from existing publisher)
Or is there any better way to install publisher backup on on branch? When publisher goes down we will use the new server like publisher.Hi
Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.

Hi all,
here we have 2 node setup
node 1 : apps + db (cm + db)
node 2 : apps (web + forms)
requirement is we want to move node 2 to new server bcoz os team wants to do some maintainance on node 2.
is this possible to move only node 2 (web + forms) to new server through rapid clone n sync with existing cm and db node or we have to move entire setup to new servers
links n MOS doc ids highly appreciated
versions:
apps : 11.5.9
db: 9.2.0.8
os : RHEL 4
Thanks,
HaafizYes it is possible and all you need to do is the following (you don't need to move node1):
- Install OS on the new server + OS pre-req software and packages
- Run preclone on node 2
- Shutdown the application on node 2 and copy the files to the new node
- Run postclone on the new node
- Clean FND_NODES and run AutoConfig

Restore database Error when restoring database to a new server
Hi folks,
I am oracle 10g on an AIX server (5.3).
I created an rman backup of a database. I then copied it over to a new server where I am trying to restore it (I just created the backup today). However, I am getting the error below.
Essentially, I used an initdb.ora file to create an instance of the database, and mounted it, on the new server. And then I ran a simple "restore database" command, the end of which is displayed below, with a "Restore complete. ..."
I have looked up this error (ora-01152) online and I cannot find a scenario which best provides me with a fix to my problem, about the file not being restored from a sufficiently old backup. Could any one help please?

Problem with the new server UCS C220 for set IP to CIMC
Hi
We’ve a problem with the new server UCS C220.
We bought two servers UCS C220 M3 for CallManager 8.6 with High Availability.
When we turn on the server during the boot and when it tells us, oppress F8 to enter at the CIMC and set the IP. But it never enters at the CIMC.
Then, we configure our DHCP server and our switch, we connect the three gigabyte ports to our switch to give him an IP to the CIMC, so and then can enter via browser, but neither works.
Note. The dedicated management NIC does not link, the other two ports do make link.
What do you suggest to put an IP to CIMC and start installing our applications?
regardsYou may have noticed that there is no DVD rom on the c220. What you need to do is:
Login into the CIMC from your browser
Luanch the KVM
Insert the VMware DVD in your machines drive
On the KVM pop up there should be a tab to mount the drive, after mounting it click on Macros and choose ctrl_alt+delete to restart.
After the VMware OS installs press F2 to enter IP.
Browse to the VMware ip to download the Vsphere client
Open the Vsphere client, enter the ip of the vmware and the username will be root and no password if you did not set one.
You can now upload OVA templates or manually create virtua machine from this enviroment.
Hope this help -
I just bought a new IMac. I have photoshop elements installed on my old IMac and would like to move it to the new one. How can i do this?
Unfortunately, adobe doesn't have photoshop elements 6 available for download, as far as i know, so your best bet is to either get an usb dvd drive or use an computer with a dvd drive and copy the contents of the pse 6 dvd to somethiing like
a flash drive and then copy the contents from that drive to your new computer.
Do you still have your older mac and it has a dvd drive?
You can share files between the two using airdrop or an ethernet cable.

Much the same way as you originally did. Download it and use your serial number to activate it.

If you registered it when you first installed it then your serial number might be available in your Adobe account online. -
Can I get rid of Exchange with the new Server just released?
Hi, I saw the new 8 core machine and all the programs. I also recieved an email from Apple telling me about all the calendaring it has.
I want to get rid of Exchange. I have Outlook on 99.9% the clients, however, and they're not going to get rid of Windows or Office any time soon. Will the new server just released and the server software do Exchange server calendaring, scheduling, etc. just like (or better) than Exchange does?
Thanks.iCalServer uses the new standard CalDAV protocol for calendaring. Exchange uses MS's own proprietary protocols - we do not have those implemented in iCalServer. As a result your existing Outlook users can't use iCalServer right now.
The good news is that there is at least one group working on a plugin for Outlook that will enable access to iCalServer. Whilst this is still alpha quality right now progress is being made, and hopefully in the near future thee will be something usable. See <http://openconnector.org>. -

Please help!
