Move large photo files

How do I move large photo files from my MacBook on to my  time capsule.

And where does the OP say anything about Aperture or any other Image editing/management program.

Thak makes a lot of sense, i did not thik about those issues.  Ok then, how do I move these files to another external drive i.e. WD Passport?
You are making an assumption that might be totally incorrect.

  • Opening large photo files produces black screen

When opening a small (less than a meg) photo, it works find. I'm able to move to the next file. If I open a large file (8-10 megs) it sometimes works fine however if I use the arrow to move to the next file in the folder I get a black screen. Also if I have a folder of many large photo files I can see all the thumbnail photos at a small size. If I try to increase the view size to large some will be black, however if I click on the file many times it opens fine, sometimes not.  It was working fine, just recently started to act up.  Using adobe photoshop I can open each file so I know they are there and not corrupt files.

I have read your post on how opening large photo files produces a black screen on your desktop computer. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
If you boot your system into Safe Mode, are you able to open large photographs? Is this a recent or a reoccurring issue?
In the meantime, I recommend following the steps in this document on Computer Locks Up or Freezes (Windows 8). This should help prevent your system from defaulting to a black screen.
I would also encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number.

  • Pre9 will not take large photo files, is 13 any better

pre9 will not take large photo files is 13 any better

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 running on - with version 9.0/9.01, it is a 32 bit application whether it is run on 32 or 64 bit computer. So, you will get that "too large" error message when your still total pixel count exceeds the limit.
If you go to Premiere Elements 10, 11, 12, or 13 (the current version) and you are running one of those programs on a 64 bit computer, each will be a 64 bit application and program will not throw off the "too large" error message. I have challenged these latter applications with stills 10000 x 7500, and each was imported with issue.
But, the question becomes, because you can, should you? No matter how high the resolution of the image, it will be forced into the resolution characteristic of the import. Just how much you can get away with in this regard goes to your computer resource and how many of these stills oversized for the project settings.
If you put Premiere Elements 13 on a Window 7 or 8 32 bit system, I am fairly confident that you end up with "too large" error message. That would not be the case if Premiere Elements 13 on a Windows 7 or 8 64 bit system.
Please review and consider. Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.

You cannot use the iPhone unless you have the previous owners AppleID & password.
See this -> Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
Sounds like you need to change your process when you buy used iPhones.

  • Mail.app unexpectedly quits b/c I tried to email VERY large photo files

Help!  I (stupidly) tried to email several large photo files from iPhoto via mail.app. All five of these emails are still sitting in drafts folder.
Now I can't even open mail.app. It immediately quits.
I deleted the drafts in Finder (or at least I think I did) and emptied trash. Still doing same thing.
Here is what Console says at the time I first started having this problem:
    6/8/12 5:51:44 PM com.apple.launchd[87] ([0x0-0x14014].com.apple.mail[130]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
    6/8/12 5:52:30 PM com.apple.launchd[87] ([0x0-0x1b51b5].com.apple.mail[6622]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
    6/8/12 5:52:49 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.backupd-wake[6599]) Exited with exit code: 1
    6/8/12 5:57:36 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (0x10a420.mdworker[6504]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
A little farther down the log it says this:
    6/8/12 8:58:46 PM Finder[114] [QL ERROR] quicklookd crashed while thumbnailing file://localhost/Users/cynthiabartz/Library/Mail/[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages.mbox/Messages/29051.emlx

You might try deleting the file located at:
    /Users/cynthiabartz/Library/Mail/[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages.mbox/Messages/29051.emlx
If the quicklook daemon is crashing on it, Mail might be too.

  • I have a large photo file (8.5 MGB) stuck in my outbox in my outlook email in my phone that is just spinning and not sending.  I want to delete it.  How?

I have a large photo file (8.5 MGB) stuck in my outbox in my outlook email in my phone that is just spinning and not sending.  I want to delete it.  How?

You may consider putting the phone in Airplane Mode (Settings -> Airplane Mode or pull up from bottom of screen and tap the airplane icon if on iOS 7), then going to your outbox in Mail and swiping to delete.

  • Large photo file

I have a very large phot file in iphoto > 63k.  Noto all of my photos are separated into events.  How do I correct this?

63 K is not a large file.  In fact it's a very small file.  Did you mean you imported a 63 Mb photo into iPhoto?
If all your photos are in one event the easiest solution is to get you current backup and replace you library with it.  If you don't have a backup then try selecting the Event and then select the Events ➙ Autosplit Selected Events menu option.

  • I have 2 WD external HD for back up. One is hooked up to the Time Machine and the other is used to store all my large photo files. The time machine excludes the second one. I need to back this up as well . How do I reformat it so it will ?

I just purchased 2 WD TB external hard drives. I have one formatted to be used with the time machine and it is working well. the other that i am using to store large files is excluded from the time machine. I can't click on it and add as per instructions. It won't allow me to. I need to back t his up as well. Ive backed up this one so I am able to reformat it but it doesn't recognize the drive unless it is formatted in FAT which is what WD advices it be formatted in. It should be in Mac extended journaling but I can't get it to mount in that. Help?

In addition, TM will not backup drives partitioned in FAT as the OP stated his 2nd EHD is formatted. My recommendation to the OP is to reformat the 2nd EHD to Mac OS Extended  (Journaled) and then include it in his TM backups. Of course in order to do this the OP must first move the data on the FAT partitioned drive to his internal HD and then once the EHD is re-partitioned correctly he can move it back.
In addition as Pondini mentioned the 2nd EHD must be directly connected to the iMac rather than be a network drive, TM is NOT, repeat NOT a network backup solution with the single caveat of using a Time Capsule backup.

  • Can I create a field to upload larger photo files?

I need to have a field for people to upload images, both photos and graphic design images but when I try and use the basic "upload a file" field the user gets a message saying the file cannot be over 100KB. Is there any way to allow them to send larger files?

OK, if you upgrade to a paid account the maximum combined size of all attached files with a single form is 20MB. So if you have just a single file attachment field, users will be able to attach a file up to 20MB.

  • Move large video files from ipad

I have made several movies with my iPad, and I am having trouble moving them to my PC. It saves the file on my PC but without any data! If anyone knows how to move these files over, that would be awesome!

  • One large photo file?

I think I read this somewhere that iphoto8 now puts all the photos into one file rather than into finder folders. Is this correct? as it makes backup a bear. I hope not.

FYI: LaCie's free backup application, SilverKeeper, also sees the iPhoto library as a folder and can do incremental backups.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Large online photo files cause slow Mac with spinning color wheel

My Mac Mini has been gradually getting slower to launch apps, any app, and now usually includes 15-30 seconds of spinning color wheel. Sometimes I get the wheel and delays while browsing. Finder windows populate slowly with file icons/names.
This behavior seems to have started, and gradually increased, since upgrading to 10.6 about 8 months ago but it also seems to be related to viewing large photo files online, since Snow Leopard.
One repeatable problem is viewing a large 2 or 3mb photo file online. I notice in Activity Monitor that Safari (both 4 and now 5 at 64bit) will dramatically increase the Real and Virtual Memory used, and not decrease even after the browser window is closed. In a few minutes the User CPU % will max out (at about 75% while System uses 25%) and the Mac while freeze for several minutes (Safari not responding) until CPU usage goes back to normal, but the Mac will be so sluggish then that I have to restart. I usually Force Quit Safari.
I have Repaired Permissions (1000s of Airport Utility were repaired but the JavaVM permissions report fixed but are on the list of repairs again a few minutes later) with Disk Utility and Cocktail, scanned with VirusBarrier X6, monitored network connections for months using Little Snitch and usually leave open Activity Monitor for checking out the action. I have read a lot of support docs and forums but I can't find the problem.
Any idea how to rid myself of this bizarre behavior?

  • I tried to move my photos to MY PASSPORT and they populated all over my screen; I can't get rid of them.  HELP!

I tried to move my photos to MY PASSPORT and they populated all over my screen - I can't get rid of them.  HELP!

This problem sounds like a missed target and too many files: user meant to drag and drop files to the WD My Passport icon on the Desktop but dropped files on the Desktop instead. If so, there could be thousands of files on the Desktop; Finder is trying to create icons for every dropped file--and one day Finder might finish--but the Mac is essentially stuck till those files leave the Desktop.
Various solutions exist, with increasing levels of difficulty:
    1. In Finder, hit Cmd-N to open a "list" display window of the Desktop, then move files from this window to a new folder--or, as others advise, Cmd-drag files to the WD My Passport  (easy, but given the bogged-down system, probably not an option).
    2. From the Finder menu, Go > Desktop to get to a "list" display rather than an "icon" display window, followed by drag/drop clean-up to a new folder or Cmd-drag files to the WD (again, easy, but also perhaps not possible).
    3. Start in Safe Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564) and then move the excess Desktop files to a new folder or Cmd-drag files to the WD. (Safe Mode loads only essential graphics routines, so the Finder may be more snappy even with an overloaded Desktop).
    4. Boot from the installation DVD and then navigate to the overloaded Desktop to move the photo files to a new folder or Cmd-drag to the WD.
    5. Use a second Mac to connect in Target Disk Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/ph3838) to clean up the messy Desktop.
    6. Use Terminal and unix commands to clean the Desktop. Try the easy ways first.

  • Compressing of photo files

When uploading images from a camera into iphoto, how can I compress large photo files that take up too much space?
    Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If your photos are too large change the settings on your camera to take photos at a lower quality. But remember that you will be reducing the quality of the images.
Other than that, you will need to edit the photos in a photo editor prior to importing to iPhoto.
If disk space is an issue, you know that you can run an entire Library from an external disk?
    Regards
    TD
