Movie import location
hello board
I am running out of disk space where my itunes library is stored but want to import videos
I have a large FW disk for my video storage, my question is this
there is a folder called "movies" in my itunes library folder, I have removed this and linked it via ln -s to a folder on my "videos disk" however when ever I import a movie it seems to put it in the "unnamed album" folder instead????
how can I get itunes to store all of my imported movies in the "itunes music/Movies"
I am using itunes to "organise" all of my media
any ideas would be welcome
Cheers
Steve
Correction. I tried to put the path that the variable
represents in quotes. Not the variable itself. All clear? It must
be late.
Thanks again, J-Rad

How can I permanently change my default import location in LR 3.5
I am trying to change my default import location on my MAC Pro Tower, to one of the internal HD's. I have named the HD Photo Location, and have created a folder in it called it "My Lightroom Photos". I have been able to create this, but cannot seem to ber able to make it my default when I open LR 3.5. I have to manually go in and change it. Is there a way that this can be changed to make it my default?
Thank you.Up to now we were talking about the Destination Folder which can be saved as part of an Import Preset.
You are talking about the Source Folder.
I tried what you did with the "Add" function. The source folder that I had selected previously when I saved the preset was not highlighed when I selected the preset.
It seems that the Source Folder is not part of the saved preset. When I select a different source folder (still in the "Add" function) , the name of my preset remains unchanged.
When I select a preset in the "Move" function and change the destination folder, the name of my preset changes to "something, something (edit)".
This behaviour would support my idea that a source folder cannot be saved as part of a preset.
So in the end, if you do not want to import into LR by copying or moving the images from the memory card you'll have to live with having to select your source folder on each import.
When you select Copy or Move the memory card will be detected by LR automatically and will be highlighted. And in >Preferences >General Tab you can also get LR to show the Import Dialog when a memory card is detected.

Can I move the location of my iCloud Drive and/or Photos Folder?
Hi, I currently own an iPad Air1 64GB with current IOS, as well as 2 Windows 7 64b PCs and one brand new Windows 8.1 Pro 64b PC. On my two desktops, is there any way to move the location of the iCloud Drive Folder from its default location at C:\Users\Brian A, which is on my System SSD, to my 6TB RAID5 Data Array. I'd rather not take up room on my SSD. If I cannot move it, this will lead me to using iCloud for little more than backup. and make it unlikely I'd ever pay for more space. I'd think at this point, more than a few people have SSD drives they might not want storage/data folders on.
I am clueless as to what Apple is attempting with iCloud Photos, as that only ever comes up as a link and under Devices and Drives, with no folder location, and no properties, seemingly making it immoveable. I'm not sure what the thought process was there, but this makes my want to use it even less than iCloud Drive.Drag it there, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it to the new location.

In iPhoto '11, how do I manually move a locations pin?
I'm trying to add locations to some older photos that I've recently scanned and added to my iPhoto '11 library.
While I can successfully add a general location to each photo, what I cannot do is "select, drag, and drop your pin into the proper location" as described in step 5 of this link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2550
If I select a photo and attempt to move its location pin on the map at the botton of the Info panel, nothing happens. The pin moves, but it doesn't "stick" in its new location. If I leave the photo and then return, the location remains in the original general location.
Any ideas?
JoshUpdate: Still can't get it working, I move a pin, and next time I go to that photo it's returned to the original place. Places function is basically worthless.
Another glitch I noticed:
- iphoto adds names from your address book to faces - great.
- If the contact it's adding from your addressbook has changed their email address, the OLD email address shows up!!!!
- e.g. I added "Tommy McTomson" to a photo months ago; I then changed Tommy's email address from yahoo.com email to say hotmail.com
- Any future pictures of Tommy I add show his OLD yahoo email address under his name in "Faces". Whci isn't really a hassle cos I don't see how you can use the email address from that biut of the sscreen in iphoto, but come on dudes, it's really slack................
Also, you can't see an iphone when it's connected when in iphoto 11 full screen mode. But I'll check this & clarify later (not on mac at the moment).
Really not impressed with iPhoto '11, especially after reading all the negative stuff on forums across the net. -
Lightroom keeps changing default import location; how to set it once and for all?
Hi all,
I'm on a mac, and coming from iPhoto. After migrating to Lightroom, I made is so my photos imports from my camera into "/Pictures/LightroomMasters/year/month/day".Now, suddenly, I noticed that they end up in "/Pictures/year/month/day".
I really want Lightroom to keep importing everything inside the "Lightroom Masters"-folder, without me clicking to that location everytime I attach my camera. But going through the Preferences, and Catalouge-settings, I can not find the equivalent of "Default import location". Is there such a setting? Or is Lightroom meant to remember where is imported to last, and keep on using that?
Thanks in advance,
AndreasIt seems to remember the folder structure on my system. But I'm running Windows 7. I just tested it by inserting a memory card and importing the images on it, I don't connect cameras to my computer, to my E drive and to a folder named Pictures 2015. I had LR place these images in a sub-folder of that Picture 2015 with the date in the format of 20150201 and which these picture were taken on the 30th of January so the folder was 20150130. I then closed LR and reopened it and took some more shots around the house and then imported those. LR import dialog went right back to that E drive \Pictures 2015 folder and placed those newer images in a folder named 20150201.
So it remembered which drive and which top level folder it was supposed to. Not sure it it would work with a secondary sub-folder under the Pictures 2015 folder.
To be honest I rarely use the import from memory card feature of LR. I don't care for the naming conventions it offers. I do use the Adobe Photo Downloader applet that comes with PS Bridge as the naming convention in that creates sub-folders with just the month and day in this format 0201. I don't need the year tacked on to the front of that sub-folder name, although it can do that, as I store all my images by years to begin with. Then I import to LR from those folders the APD app creates.
If you are using more than one camera it might remember for each camera so from now on it will go back to the right folder. -
I want to move the location of my iTunes library music files. At present they are all on my time machine . I want to move them all to my imac. Can I do that and keep all my playlists and play counts? Thanks in advance
its 1000s of songs . Originally I used the time machine as a networked drive but it can cause the songs to pause so I'm thinking it would be better to have the songs on the internal imac drive
how can I move the songs so I can re-open iTunes and the playlists (with plays in the 100s) find the song in the new place?Do you mean on your Time Machine backup drive? Or are you actually accessing the backup? In either case you shouldn't be doing that. If you haven't space on your HDD to store the iTunes Library, then at least put it on another external drive.
Since you did not provide any information about what's actually "on my time machine," here's what you would do. The entire iTunes folder should be stored in the /Home/Music/ folder. Within that folder you would have three folders: imm Media, iTunes, and iTunes Playlists. -
How can I set the OS to remember my last import location?
Hi All,
I use Adobe InDesign CS5.5 and QuarkXpress 8 and I am eternally frustrated that the OS will not remember my last import location/folder when importing subsequent pictures from the same folder. InDesign can import several pictures at a time so it is not as frustrating as Quark with this issue. I am sure it is just a setting that I have to apply but I cannot find it. I seem to remember this was an option in previous version of the OS.
I have had a look at the InDesign and Quark preferences and cannot find this option
Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
Kind regards.
Mark1425Okay, cheers, so I guess it's stored in the application prefs. I just installed Snow L last week and it bothered me that everytime I opened a document I had to set my pref again. I wasn't aware that it was storing it for that particular app though cause I'm using so many differnt apps. But you are right, it does store for the individual app. Cheers for the answer!

I want to move the location of my iTunes Library db files to a new location without moving the whole lot, including my Media file [Music, Films etc etc files]... in this case I want to move the Library db files to my iCloud Folder so I have a backup of the Library db File [ good idea huh :-) ] and I should be able to open iTunes whether the media can be seen at that point or not. is it possible to just move the Library files and then tell iTunes where they are so it can launch iTunes?
Is this just a case of cut and paste the Library files to the new location, then updating config in iTunes?
This may be a silly question but in my book, no question is silly if it needs to be asked.
Any ideas, advise welcomed.m1g1c1 wrote:
Thanks Chris but I think I have not explained it well enough.
This...
I am using an iCloud Folder on my local Mac hard drive. iCloud Folder syncs with iCloud and works like a backup. It is a subscription service that Apple offer.
You should be adding them to iCloud, not your local drive.
Yes I understand how it works.
The iCloud folder on the local drive is (and should be) managed by the iCloud drive/OS, not you.
You are simply trying to work around iCloud drive.
I just want to know if I can move the iTunes Library cb files to a new folder/location on my macs local hard drive
... and tell iTunes where to look for the Library so that it can launch / startup
The iTunes library.itl file is part of the iTunes library.
I already back up my actual media files (music etch) by other methods.
You should back up the entire iTunes folder, not just the media.
If you wna to backup the iTune slibrary.itl, just copy it to the iCloud drive on the left side of aFinder window.
You don't need to go (and shouldn't) into the iCloud folder in your user library.
This is what the "guru" will tell you. -
How do I move the location of library to external drive?
I started uploading pictures in Revel and didn't realize that it was taking up space on the limited hard drive in my Mac Pro. How can I move the back up, and all related files to an external hard drive and still keep everything on the cloud?
Hi Johnny,
Unfortunately, you can not move the location of the library on your Mac. What you may want to do is turn off "Keep All Originals" - then, upload your images then put those originals on the external HD. Then you'd have your original images backed up on the ext HD, also have them in the cloud, but off your desktop.

How to reinstall plugin Media Core CFHD AVI importer 32 and MOV importer 32.pm?
I instralled the After Effects trial program and it was running okay for a few days, then I was hit with a warning to reinstall plugins. How to reinstall plugin Media Core CFHD AVI importer 32 and MOV importer 32.pm?
Has anyone figure this out?
I started getting this after installing GoPro Studio 2.
Uninstalling it and even deleting the plugins manually didn't work, and neither did reinstalling AE.
All I could get was stop getting the error message at start-up but the problem is that any .AVI file that I import only plays audio, no video.
Please, any help appreciated. -
Import location in wsit-client.xml to file in another jar
Normally the wsit-client.xml has import statements like this:
+<import location="foo.xml" namespace="http://foo.org/" />+
I've found that their can be online 1 wsit-client.xml on the classpath/META-INF, but can I refer to an xml who's located into another jar in that wsit-client.xml? Something like :
+<import location="classPathResource/WEB-INF/foo.xml" namespace="http://foo.org/" />+
I would like to create a single wsit-client.xml who contains the imports for all my webservices but I want to separate the configuration for all the different webservices in to different projects.ApplicationClientInitialcontextFactory class is generally used with thick clients [A java swing client.] The client is bundled as a jar and application-client.xml is placed under the META-INF of the archive.
For JSP clients you can try using com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialcontextFactory to lookup the beans.
[You can also tty placing the application-client.xml under a META-INF folder in the deployed JSP application root folder eg: j2ee/home/applications/MyApp/META-INF/application-client.xml]
hope that helps

I am currently using iMovie version 8. Is there any way to change the default import location when I am importing video from a DV camera? I would like to make an external disk the default location that way my video gets placed there from the start rather than having to transfer it after the fact? This information would be extremely helpful seeing as though i only have 8 GB left on my local disk.
Thanks. You can change the target location on the import screen. Once you change it, that will be the new default until you change it again.
