Moving Albums Between Libraries

Hello -
I am recreating my iPhoto library, due to a major corruption when I transitioned from iPhoto 08 to iPhoto 09. Is there any way to move my folders/albums from the old library to the new library?
Thanks!
kmw

Perhaps iPhoto Library Manager can help with this - or even do the entire rebuild for you.

  • OSB gives confusing volume information when moving tapes between libraries

    Hi,
We have an SL500 tape library as our main backup device. We also added an SL24 to the OSB domain for testing prior to installation elsewhere. We have an RMAN-FULL-MF media family, which at some point in the past had unexpired media in both libraries.
As part of the process of decommissioning the SL24 prior to shipment, I unloaded the volumes from the SL24 and imported them into the SL500. However, I may not have run the necessary OSB commands, such that OSB has up-to-date information as to where the physical media is located.
Our DBA has tried to delete some old database backups, and this has failed because the backup pieces cannot be found. However, we have a volume in the SL500, RMAN-FULL-MF-000007 which appear to contains the backup pieces (see 'lspiece' output below), but OSB thinks the volume is still in the SL24.
When I do an inventory of the SL500 I get:
    lsvol -L SL500

This appears to indicate that OSB still thinks the volume is in the SL24, which has now been removed from the domain.
Does anyone know what I can do to get OSB to recognise that the volume is now in the SL500? Do I need to run the 'obtar' command with the -G option to re-catalogue the tape?
Ultimately I like to see some documentation on how to transfer tapes between libraries in the same domain, and also between domains, with specifc commands to run.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Not quite as straightforward as you suggest, but we have made progress.
The volume has to have a rotation policy before the 'chvol' command will run, which seems logical. So I created a policy for movement of tapes between the SL24 and SL500, and created and ran the media movement job. However, I then tried to remove the rotation policy, but could not because it was associated with the volume just moved.
    I then tried a 'chvol -R "" RMAN-FULL-MF-000007' which returned an error:
"Error: can't relocate volume RMAN-FULL-MF-000007, volume has no rotation policy"
Which was the effect I wanted really - the removal of the association of the volume with the policy. I was then able to remove the rotation policy.
Also, 'lsvol -f RMAN-FULL-MF' still shows this volume listed twice.
The upshot of all this is that OSB now appears to show the volume in the right location and our DBA was able to delete the obsolete backups via RMAN.

  • Moving pictures between libraries

Greetings, is there a convenient way to move pictures between libraries. Copy and paste doesn't work. I have tried the import function but the other libraries are grayed out. Any thoughts. Thanks

put the picture(s) in an album then choose: File>>Export>>Album as new library. Then import that library to the library you wish to move to. You could just export the master, but you'd lose any work you've done. You could also export the version, but you'd "bake in" any work you've done.

  • Moving photos between libraries

I take lots of photos, and, with previous incarnations of iPhoto, this was a bit of a problem. To get around it, I created multiple users on my computer, each with a themed library (family, travel, hobbies, etc.)
With iPhoto 6 I can have much larger libraries, and multiple libraries for a single user. I have migrated my libraries (via an external hard drive) back to my main user, and open them as needed without a problem.
Is there any way to move photos (original and modified, as a package) from one library to another? Or to merge libraries?
I can export and then import from one to another, but I lose the original. Or I can burn to a disc, and then import, but this is time consuming and wasteful of discs.
    Any other suggestions?

    luba:
Yes there is. The paid version of iPhoto Library Manager will let you move photos between libraries along with the originals, keywords, etc. It's about the only way to do it.
With iPhoto's new alias mode there is a way to have several users use the same set of source files but each have their own edits, etc. You would place the source files in the Shared library and everyone use them as their source files. FWIW I've created some Tutorials to assist users covert from a conventional library to an alias based system.

  • Moving tunes between libraries...

    Hi All,
I want to move tunes between libraries as we have one main desktop computer and two laptops in the house. I have managed to do this before using the sharing set up but im buggered if I can remember how to do it...
I can see and play the tunes from all libraries on all computers but cant copy the files between libraries.

  • Moving images between libraries

In OSX and Lightroom 2, how to I move images between libraries?  I know that probably sounds like a dumb question, but I am a total LR2 newb.  I know I can move an entire library folder into another library folder, but what if I just want to move selected images from one library to another?
    Thanks in advance!

Open a catalog and choose FILE...IMPORT FROM CATALOG. Choose the other catalog and then select the images you want. That will copy them into your catalog. If you don't want them in the second catalog then open that one and delete them. Just choose the remove from catalog option since you want the image source files to remain on your drive for the other catalog to reference.

  • Moving albums between iphoto libraries

I have three iPhoto libraries on my mac book pro. I have created albums and events in each and want to consolidate the albums to a single Iphoto library.
    How do I do that?

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • How to export and import albums between libraries in AP2

In AP2, I transfer projects from my travel library to the home master library by exporting each project and then importing it into the master library. All objects created within a project will transfer over.
However, I'm not sure how to export and then import objects that are "outside" of specific projects, for example, an album or smart album that pulls from multiple projects.
Can anyone tell me how to transfer these sorts of objects between two libraries?
    Thanks

    Ian,
So, in other words, you're saying that it's not possible to export directly objects (like smart albums) that reside outside of projects?
I know, for example, you can "export" anything created inside a folder by dragging and dropping the folder to another library; but you then have to rebuild the library to get the new folder and its contents to be recognized. For my library, this takes too much time to do.

  • Quickest way to move albums between libraries..

I am splitting my itunes libary because it is too big...is there any way to do this easily...I figured I'd create a new libary and copy about 100 albums in..and then go back and delete them from the first library..
    does that sound right..

If your aim is to move some of your iTunes content to a different drive to free up space then try the script Re-Locate Selected. Although this will work in the long run life is much easier if your transfer your library en masee to a drive big enough to hold it and with room for growth.

  • Moving photos between two iphoto libraries

Is there any way to easily move photos from one iphoto library to another? We have two macs at home and my wife and I keep separate iphoto libraries on each one. Both computers are using iphoto '08 (version 7.1.2). I back up both libraries on an external hard drive. Recently my wife was traveling with one computer and I needed to access some pictures that were on it. The only way I could figure was to:
    1) hold down the option key when opening iphoto on my machine, choose the library on the external
drive that had the photos I needed.
    2) Then from within iphoto export those photos.
    3) Then close out iphoto and reopen it with the library on my machine.
    4) Then finally import the photos into the library on my machine.
Is there any faster and easier way to extract photos in a situation like this?

Like Larry said, use iPLM to copy events or albums between libraries while keeping metadata, keywords, titles and descriptions, intact.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Migrate Roll between Libraries?

I imported a set of photos into iPhoto 6.0.6 on one computer and edited them. Now I'd like to merge the entire "roll" from that computer into my main iPhoto library on a different computer in such a way that preserves all the "roll" attributes, including edited photos, original photos, and all metadata. (In other words, I want the result to reflect what would have resulted if I'd done all the work on the destination computer.) Is this possible?

    William:
You can do that with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It allows you to copy rolls/albums between libraries (they must be the same version) while preserving keywords, comments, ratings, etc., like this.
    Do you Twango?

  • Moving Photos Between iPhoto Libraries

I have established a second iPhoto library but an not clear on how to move photos from the original library to the second library. Seems it should be simple - from the original library I highlight the photos to be exported to the second library, then click "export", but the export to the second library doesn't happen. Also, while in the second library I tried to import the highlighted photos from the original library, but that didn't work either. I have iPhoto 6.0.6 Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    HDP

    HDP,
You cannot export directly into another iPhoto Library folder, because all files must be imported in order to be recognized by the database. Don't ever try to manipulate your files directly inside the iPhoto Library folder. Importing photos from one library into another will get you the photos, but strip them of their albums and other library metadata.
The only way to move photos between libraries and preserve albums, keywords, and other metadata is to use iPhoto Library Manager. It will save you a lot of work.
    Regards.

  • Moving masters and their versions between libraries?

Is it possible to move masters and their versions between libraries?

the best and easiest way (that i have found) is to create a new project and put the masters and versions in there ... use export project to "extract" and then import the project in the different library ...
this is if you only want to move one or two masters/versions, if you want the whole project disregard creating the new one and moving images ...

I'm not sure if it is possible, but can you work in and transfer photos between two open libraries at the same time? It is more an organizational question...i.e. I want to have some photos only appear in a particular library...

    nk3:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can only have one library open at a time but with iPhoto Library Manager (in the free mode) you can transfer 20 photos at a time between libraries and keep keywords, comments, etc.
