Moving clips...fce drops the clip as soon as mouse stops... quirky glitch?

Ok so i have a bit of a problem with FCE. I am trying to move clips around in the timeline. I can move them, but as soon as I stop moving the mouse the clip just gets dropped onto the timeline.
any idea on how i can turn this function (or does it sound like a bug?)

no its not snapping. I'm litterally dragging the clips around, and as soon as I stop dragging it just drops the clip like onto the timeline.
sorry for my inaccurate explanation. I'll boot up FCE and try again to make sure its not just a 2-3 times thing.

  • Display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor

Is there a way to display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor? Clip names are usually set by the camera and are of no use to me. What i would like the clip and the source monitor to display is the name of the shot from the metadata. That's,in my opinion, a very useful info when you're editing a film.  If that feature doesn't exist, is there a way to batch rename clips based on metadata?

    thanks
is that new or was that always there. Not to sure if I have tried that in the past
anyway it helped and will makes things much faster
one other question maybe you have an answer to that too. it seems both Audio tracks are independ when putting on keyframes is there a way when using keyframes in the time line that it affect both channels of audio for example a1 an a2
once again thanks for your help

  • Why is "Create Multicamera Clip" disabled on the clip menu?

I cannot enable "create multicamera clip" on the clup menu.  I was just doing this the other day, how can I get the feature re-enabled.

I must have been out cruising the galaxy, there was only 1 clip selected!  Well, at least I finally installed my pending updates.

Hey! I tried both suggestions but even the self contained quicktime file has the green screen frames popping up.
I just dont get it, it's infuriating!
I used "chroma keyer" effect on the clip, only enable "key on saturation", the green screen disappears, I place clip on V2 and image on V1. Image is then visible where the green screen was. All is well until the last frame before a next clip because on that ast frame the green screen appears again. Where am I going wrong? Please help!

  • Can i see the length of the clip writen on the clip?

    Hi
I want to know the length of each clip, when i look at the timeline (like in Avid), can i do that?

It's odd how that is staring you in the face and most of us completely miss it.
I noticed some info at the bottom during the weekend .. .. .. and promptly forgot about it.
Does any other info appear there apart from clip durations?

  • I have converted m2ts files to .mov to edit in FCE (4.0.1) When I drag the clips into the timeline they need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 sec. clip. Is this normal? I am using OS 10 . My easy setup is apple intermediate codec, 720p30. Any help

I have converted m2ts files to .mov in streamclip,  for editing in fce 4.0.1. When I drag them into the fce timeline the clips need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 second clip. Is this normal? My OS is 10.6.8. My easy setup in fce is apple intermediate codec 720p30. Any advice to avoid the rendereng would be helpful. Ann

To what codec, frame size & frame rate did you convert the files in Streamclip?
If it isn't AIC 720p30, you'll need to render.

  • When I drop a clip on V2, why does the clip below on V1  jump to the right?

That's it! When I drop a clip on V2 the clip immediately below it jumps to the right leaving a gap in the timeline.
It's easy enough to drag it back - but what am I doing wrong in the first place?
    Ian.

Not really, I managed to install LiveType so that it worked, last Sunday!
I had been playing (struggling) around with LT and was dropping a "hyper-space" background I had just created into the TimeLine.
It was then that I noticed the baffling phenomenon and remembered it had happened on previous occasions.
So I am just messing about. Perhaps my next film will be a "Starwars Epic" or a rip-off of "I'm a Ladeee" from "Little Britain"...........
.......It could even be a combination of the two......Now there's a thought - Darth Vader in drag!

  • Importing my video from my event library into my project library, it shows the full width of the clip, but on the viewing section, it's zoomed in and cut the sides of the video off.  How do I stop this from happening?

When importing my video from the event library to the project library, it's zooming in and
narrowing the width of my footage.  How do I stop this from happening?

In the project, double-click on the clip to open the Clip Inspector. In the Clip tab you will see an item about two thirds down labelled "Stabilization". If checked, uncheck the box "Smooth clip motion".
Stabilizing clips causes a zoomed in effect, with the extent of the zoom dependent upon how shaky the footage is. There is a slider beneath the check-box labelled "Maximum Zoom" - this can be draggged back and forth to adjust the zoom effect if desired, once the clip has been stabilized.
You may have chosen to analyze clips for stabilization when importing to iMovie (that's a choice provided by iMovie upon import). If so, it's best to turn off an option in iMovie's preferences. Go to this from the iMovie menu item iMovie>Preferences. Click on the Browser tab and deselect (uncheck) the box labelled "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed".
I prefer to import clips without analyzing, as this speeds up the import process. Afterwards, in the Event you can check for any overly shaky clips, then analyze them in the Inspector. If necessary, once dropped into a Project, you can stabilize them as desired. You can also stabilize clips directly in the Project without having to first analyze them in the Event.

  • Time and clip duration not the same ???

I got a clip with 3 correction layer above of same lenght and I toggle from one another and they shows 9;09 in info all excepts video clip which shows 9;10, but on timeline they are same lenght and show in info same In and Out TC. Also, when I go in Time by right-clicking clip, Time indicates 9;09.
As my AE smoke dope or is this known bug?
Which do I trust in ?
The Cs4 on the machine in updated to last patch and has Cineform ProspectHD on it.

There's no bug here. If you go to the end of the clip in AE you'll be at the last frame. Go 1 more frame and you'll be at the end of the clip. This is where the confusion comes. If you were butting together to clips in AE then the first frame of the second clip would start when the preceding clip ends, IOW at the end of the clip.
Dropping a clip in an empty timeline or dragging it into the new composition icon creates a composition exactly the same length as the clip, but the frame number of the last frame is one less than the length of the comp.
Maybe the confusion arises because you're not counting bananas, you are measuring time. 60 bananas are 60 bananas because you started with a banana, but 60 seconds is a minute because you started with no seconds. The last second in a minute is the 59th second. When that second is over the minute is up.
In Premiere, or any other NLE, when you go to the end of a clip you don't see that clips last frame, you go to the first frame of the next clip. This makes sense because you wouldn't want to overlap the clips by 1 frame. When you go to the end of a comp you see the last frame, but the frame number is one less than the length of the composition. This also makes sense because you wouldn't want to the render to have one blank frame at the end of the movie.
I hope this clears things up.

  • The sound in the middle of the clip was missing.

    Dear Adobe Premiere Pro friends,
Can anyone help me, recently I have the problem when I have succeed imported the clip, some of the clips was missing the sound at the middle up to the end of the clip.
The clip was imported are MTS taken from my Panasonic Camcoder HVC 550.
    Awaiting the advice.

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Every time I try to open a new movie project the clips from previous project are already in it

How do I start a fresh movie project that's completely blank? I go to New Movie start a file and then when I click import clips it imports the clip fine but the old project clips get imported along with it. How do I stop that?

I ran into nearly an identical problem after upgrading to the newest version of iMovie (with Mavericks) and then attempting to move a lot of older events and projects to an external hard drive. Mind you, this was AFTER I watched not only a lynda.com movie on how to do this, but a Tutor for Mac movie on it as well. Guess what? I have a jumbled mess where projects and events no longer seem to be paired whatsoever. Very disheartening and I haven't yet found a system to right things again.

  • Movie clip shows no time amount, but properties show the clip is 1.36GB

    Hi all,
    I have a weird problem. I set up my Canon HV20 with iMovie 6HD to capture a time lapse of butterflies comming out of their cocoon. I had it set to capture 1 frame every 90 frames. I started it at 10:55 pm last nite and woke up 5:25am this morning. Guess what! All four of them came out! I thought "GREAT", let me see what it caught. There are three clips;
    Clip 01 - time- 2:00:13, 1.37GB
    Clip 02 - time - 0:00:00, 1.36GB
    Clip 03 - time - 26:04, 284MB
The properties show that clips 1 and 2 started capture at 10:55 p.m. and clip 3 started capture at 1:55 am. I could have swore that when the clips were in the clips pane, there was a time amount on clip 2. After i put it in the time line it went to all "0".
What could have caused this? When I opened the package I see that clips 1 and 2 show the first frame of the clip, but clip 2 only shows the quicktime logo. It doesn't play when I try to play in Qt. Is there a time limit per clip? I thought it would just record as 1 big clip.
    Thanks for you help

A bit confused by your statement

Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

  • Using the Clip Plane

Hello, I seek the wisdom of the Labview Gurus.  I have a VI that I can succesfully create objects and display my data.  I can then manipulate the position and do a host of other things that I need done.  Unfortunately, I cannot seem to figure out the Clip Plane.  I have tried using the Create Clip plane VI and then using the property node to add the Clip Plane, but this does not work.  I also created an object called "Clip Plane", added the Clip Plane to that object, and then added Object "Clip Plane" to the parent object.  This did not work either.  None of the examples seem to have Clip Plane usage in them.  Any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Austin
PS - The solar system VI was an awesome example in 3d modeling!

I found out my own problem.  To turn on the clip plane, there is a control node under objects called "Set Clip Plane".  Under this is an option to turn on clip planes for the objects.

  • How do i delete a part of a clip and rejoin the audio on each side

How (or where in the manual are the instr) l) do i delete a part of a clip and rejoin the audio on each side. This is most frustrating. The join command is never available. If i select an area to delete everything above and below is deleted, whether or not its selected and whether or not its mute. I find in the manual only ways to move entire clips. I need to remove 2 words from a clip in one track.

i'm assuming your working in the multi-track mode since you didn't specify. select the razor blade tool and make two cuts to the audio, one where you want the cut to start, the other where you want the cut to end. select this smaller region that you want to delete and press the delete key.
now you'll have a gap of silence where that unwanted clip was. select the clip(s) to the right of the cut and drag them left. the default behavior is to do a cross fade when the clips overlap. you'll probably have to play with the cross fade amount in order to get it to sound natural.
    hope that helps!
