Moving disks while maintaining Solaris 10 install from one v240 to another.

Hi,
I want to move a Solaris 10 install from a sunfire v240
with a single cpu to another sunfire v240 with dual cpu's. Here are the
details of the hosts as well as configuration.
I have 2 sunfire v240's. One has a single 1 Ghz cpu and the second has
dual 1.5 Ghz cpu. I want to move the disks of the single cpu host to
the host with dual cpu's. I want to keep the installed version of
Solaris 10 intact. The installation of Solaris is split across 2
mirrored disks, i.e. 4 disks in total. I am using Suns volume manager
for mirroring and also have one files system mirrored with zfs.
The questions I have are the following:
1) Can I simply shut down the servers and swap the disks to the
destination host, in the same disk slots? The controllers the disks are
on line up and are the same between the 2 hosts.
2) Will the kernel pickup the changes moving from a single 1 Ghz cpu to
dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's with out any problems? Will the kernel pickup the
faster cpu's speeds. i.e. will it know it is now running dual 1.5. Ghz
cpu opposed to a single 1 Ghz?
3) Would we have to break the mirroring on the OS before shutting it
down?
4) As another option, instead of swapping disks, could we swap the
cpus? Move the dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's to the other host? Will the
motherboards read the updates of the cpu or are their jumper settings we
would need to update?
Thanks for your help.

I know there are many factors, but I'm pretty new to both unix & oracle, so I >needed some general steps to get me started. You have many options.
Since you're in 10g, Have the Target Database created in Solaris 10 x86, Oracle 11g.
you can use,
RMAN - Cross platform Transportable Tablespaces.
Datapump Export and Datapump import.

  • Moving directory with Software Update files from one server to another

    Hi guys,
I have recently bought a Mac Mini to move on it my test system Mac OS 10.9 with Server 3.0, running on VM.
    My question is:
Is it possible to move the Software Update packages/directory from one server to another, so I don't need to wait a whole week to have them all downloaded from the Apple servers?
I assume, if replace all the Software update fodder it is not going to work as there are some kind of index files elsewhere that will not accept that change.
I haven’t tried any migration assistant as don’t want to replicate the server.
    Any suggestions, please?

    hi Lucas,
i just stumbled onto this post of yours while searching for solutions for a somehow related issue that's kept me thinking.
your post isn't new, yet it received no answers... maybe you found a solution already.
in case you haven't, a possible hint might come from https://discussions.apple.com/message/20478878#20478878
for the record, i've installed os x server 3.0 on mvrx 10.9 on a 4-year old Intel Core 2 Duo mac mini with 500GB disks.
in my case, it's the almost 200GB of update files wasting what's left of my storage real estate to press for a solution.
tried to do what's suggested here, seems to work fine on my system, too. hope this helps.

  • Error while copying GL Accounts from One Client to another client

    Hi,
We are trying to copy GL accounts created in one client to another client (Company Code is same in both the clients). First we executed FS15 (send) and a file was created on the server. With the help of BASIS team we checked that file and it contained the required values. However, when we are doing FS16 (receive) we are getting following OK messages:
    File /usr/sap/DEV/SYS/global/FBISABC is being checked
Session 1 session name RFBISA20 : No terminations have been found
However, at the same time we are getting following error message:
    File name FI_COPY_COMPANY_CODE_DATA_FOR_GENERAL_LEDGER_0X is unknown
    Message no. SG001
    Diagnosis
No entry was found in the conversion table for the logical file name FI_COPY_COMPANY_CODE_DATA_FOR_GENERAL_LEDGER_0X.
    Procedure
Add an entry to the conversion table for the logical file name. Maintain the conversion table with the transaction SM30.
Can someone please advice is there something wrong that we are doing for copying GL accounts from one client to another client.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

    Dear Sanjay,
Did you check the batch-input? SM35
It could have happend that there was a mistake in the batch-input data and that the destination file has not been written. If this has not been written it could not be found.  (I.E. you tried to transport G/L Accounts with deletion flags but did activate the checkbox "Transfer deletion ****").
There is another point: Did you activate the box "Datei nur prüfen" (English: Check file only)? If this box is activated the programm will check if the batch-input-file will be written without mistakes but it will not write the file. Only if the checkbox is not activated the batch-input-file will be written. (the same with FS16).
    Kind regards

  • Moving a template or input schedule from one environment to another in MS

    Hi team,
Can anyone let me know how does any template or input schedule is moved from one environment to another in MS version?
Please give me steps.. Appreciate your great help....
    Thanks,
    Chandrakanth.K

    Hi Chandrakanth,
if you want only the template the easiest is just copy the xlt file from the same folder from one server to the other.
If you want to copy all the environment (even data) you can use backup and restore from the server manager (appset\server backup save the zip file on the destination environment and restore it).
From the BPC MS 7.5 SP06 and 10.0 SP01 even the SAP Enhanced Change and Transport System (CTS+) is enabled, for this please see http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/25924

  • Moving iLife 08 install from one machine to another (with a twist)

Greetings. I have a complete backup of all the files from an iMac I recently sold. I had purchased a single user version of iLife 08 which is what is on the backup. Before selling the iMac, I reformatted the drive and put iLife 06 and Tiger back on it, keeping the iLife 08 update for myself.
I have misplaced my iLife 08 program disk. It was the single user retail SKU of iLife 08 upgrade. I do have a complete backup from a PPC-based iMac that it had been installed on. I know the iLife 08 applications are universal since by trial and error I moved one app over to my new machine manually from the backup.
I have a MacBook that originally shipped with Tiger. I bought a single user update to Leopard and installed that using erase and install. All good so far. Of course, this wiped out the iLife 06 that had been on the MacBook w/Tiger, but I have a backup of it. I also have the backup of my iLife 08. Both the Leopard and iLife 08 are legal copies obtained at retail. I have the leopard DVD but can't find ilife 08.
I am sure I can somehow handpick the files from the iMac backup to put iLife 08 onto the Leopard-powered MacBook. I've already spend hours looking for the DVD but in the process of moving and just can't find it. So my question is the following:
What directories do I need to copy from my backup to bring iLife 08 to life on the MacBook? I moved GarageBand over and by watching error messages figured out what to move, but would rather not go through this for all the apps!
I am a loyal Mac user with quite a collection including iMacs, Minis, MacBook, had a couple of MacBook pros, and I've even got two XServes in production! I am evaluating Leopard and iLife 08 for use across the board. So far having some challenges with Leopard and web development tools preventing me from upgrading across the board. But for now this one MacBook will be my Leopard test bed.
Help or links to places with this info appreciated. I will keep looking for that darned DVD in the meantime.

yeh true the firewire drive doesnt need to be involved in the story at all... the only reason it is because I already backup my MBP to a firewire drive anyway - so I already have the new system/apps on that FW drive.
I already have my mac pro's current system drive backed up to yet another FW drive, so yea if it does all go wrong I dont even need to do an archive and install, I can directly boot from the old FW drive.
"This should work ok. I have a system on a firewire drive, and I can use it to boot up computer A or to boot up computer B, no problem. They are very different computers. So the same system can start up two very different computers."
Thats very reassuring. If Apple does not disencourage that type of usage then I guess that answers my question. I dont know much about the internal workings of OSX, but was concerned that maybe when installing from the DVDs only the relevant drivers or kernel or something would be installed - etc especially regarding 2core MBP vs. 8core mac pro (it would still work when copying over the system, but not fully optimally) - maybe what I said is total bullcr*p, I dunno! anyways, I will try and do some benchmarks etc and put it through some testing when I get some time - I have my old FW backup to fall back to so its cool...

  • Cant open boot archive after copying Solaris 10 from one machine to another

    We are running "Solaris 10 3/05 s10_74L2a" on a Sun Fire 480R.
I tried to, using ufsdump to copy the filesysem to a T5220 which has 4 disks, the first 2 disks are a mirrored os of a Solaris 10 version already there.
So I restored the ufs inages to the 3rd disk, ran installboot with the bootblock from the restored image for s sun Fire 480R as there did not appear to be a bootblock for a T5220 , as its a more recent server.
    ie:
    installboot /mnt/usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0s0
    /mnt/usr/platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk: File not found
so I do this instead :
    installboot /mnt/usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0s0
Now then I try to boot I get :
Boot device: /pci@0/pci@0/pci@2/scsi@0/disk@2 File and args:
    ufs-file-system
    Loading: /platform/sun4v/boot_archive
    Loading: /platform/sun4v/boot_archive
    Can't open boot_archive
    Evaluating:
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.
but, as far as I know this old version of Solaris did not use a boot archive and there is no directory /platform/sun4v/boot_archive in the restored files, nor on the original server.
So, my question is, if the old version of os did not support a boot-archive, why is this restored image, when I boot , giving this error.
Surely all the data on the 3rd disk should be the same as on the old server.!!
What am I missing here ??
    George

Well, you can't just copy an OS from one type of system to another and expect it to work. For one thing the OS communicates with its hardware through the /dev/ and /devices layer, and that layer will be completely different when you transfer it to another system.
Second of all the lack of boot block for the T5220 in your installation indicates that your version of Solaris 10 does not support the T5220 platform, which probably means that it will be impossible to boot completely on it anyway..
I'm not sure when the SPARC systems started to use the boot-archive..
Anyway, the two things you have missed is to create the boot-archive (with bootadm update-archive -R /mnt), and to run devfsadm on the new platform (devfsadm -r /mnt ).
Even so, there is no guarantee that your version of Solaris actually supports your hardware.. But i guess that's documented in the Sun System Hardware Handbook..

  • Copying install from one machine to another

Hi all, I have a macbook pro and a mac pro, both of which I would like to reinstall from scratch (i've installed and removed LOADS of crap over the past year and want to start from fresh).
I've reinstalled the OS on my macbook pro (discs provided was 10.4.8) and done all the software updates, installed and configured all the software I use etc.
I was wondering if it would be safe to now copy my mbp system partition to a firewire drive with superduper, then boot my mac pro with that firewire drive and use superduper again to copy the firewire drive to my mac pro system partition - effectively copy the system partition from the macbook pro to the mac pro. It would save a helluva lot of time for me! I know I could just reinstall the OS on the mac pro, then do a 'get settings and apps from another partition' thing - but that still means I need to reinstall the OS and do all the updates - which takes hours, and THEN i need to do the settings transfer! and I cant really afford the downtime on my mac pro, the superduper method would be way quicker - and completely unmanned throughout, i can start the process just before I goto bed and its ready in the morning. But I'm not sure if it would be a 'safe' system - with the hardware being different and all on the MBP and MP...

yeh true the firewire drive doesnt need to be involved in the story at all... the only reason it is because I already backup my MBP to a firewire drive anyway - so I already have the new system/apps on that FW drive.

  • Moving a hard drives with songs from one computer to another

I'm going to have my collection of music on one external hard drive, but I'm streaming from one computer using ATV to my home stereo system, but managing the music on the external drive (adding mostly) from another machine. (The reason is that the streaming machine is much older and slower - works for streaming but my USB ports are crappy and so I want to be able to add music directly to the hard drive from my newer, faster notebook).
Given this scenario, if I add music to the external drive from the newer notebook, when I go to connect it to the streaming machine, what do I have to do each time to update Itunes on that computer?

you could try copying and pasting the songs on to a usb.
plug the usb into the desk top and paste them onto itunes.
idk if it will work but its worth a try. i managed to get songs from my psp to my ipod this way

  • Moving a Solaris Zone from one server to another

    Hello,
I have a Solaris 8 zone running on a server. It is running on a ZFS file system. The hardware that it is running on is no longer under support contract, so we want to move it to our newer solaris hardware that still has support.
I have done a lot of looking around and can't find a definite answer.
The zone was created by a flash archive and installed to a ZFS file system. Worked like a champ and was fairly easy to do.
However, I want to take this zone, halt it, and then export the zfs file system to a new server. Let me know if this sounds like it will work...
    newglobal# zfs create zones/temp -o sharenfs=on
    oldglobal# zoneadm -z zone halt
    oldglobal# mount -F nfs newglobal:/zones/temp /net
    oldglobal# tar -cf /net/zone.tar /zones/zone
    oldglobal# zonecfg -z zone export -f /net/zone.cfg
    newglobal# zfs create zones/zone -o quota=10g
    newglobal# tar -xf /zones/temp/zone.tar /zones/zone
    newglobal# mv /zones/zone/zone/root ../../
    newglobal# mv /zones/zone/zone/dev ../../
    newglobal# zonecfg -z zone -f /zones/temp/zone.cfg
    newglobal# zoneadm -z zone attach -F
    newglobal# /usr/lib/brand/solaris8/s8_p2v zone
    newglobal# zoneadm -z zone boot
Does this seem feasible? I really don't want to create another flar of this server if I don't have to.

I basically did what I said I would from my first post and it worked like a champ.
I created the zfs mount point, ran the tar command, moved it via nfs to the next server, untarred it to the new zone zfs space,
exported the zone cfg from the original host, modified it so that it had the correct zonepath, and network devices for the new host, imported the config with zonecfg -z zone -f /tmp/zone.cfg. I then attached the zone with zoneadm -z zone attach -F. I then ran /usr/lib/brand/solairs8/s8_p2v zone and it installed all the patches required for it and then I ran zoneadm -z zone boot and it came right up and worked like a charm.
Thanks for all the info you guys gave me.

  • Copy my arch install from one HD to another HD, as is...

Is there a sure fire tutorial/way to copy the contents of my arch install as is on my one HD to the bigger faster other HD.
Yes, I have searched and read some articles. But, I have also in the past followed the advice of some tutorials and found myself knee deep in a huge pile of ****. So, I am asking if anyone has tried this personally on here and what was there method of madness. Please DO NOT forget to leave out important steps. The one I could think of recently was when I tried to resize my ext3 partition and the tutorial forgot to mention that I shouldn't re-write the FS once I re-created the partition. <-- yes I know idiot mistake. Lesson learned!
Thanks in advanced for any help you can offer me.

I just boot using Arch install CD (with arch root=/dev/sd[xx] option) and then run mkinitcpio -p kernel26 and grub-install /dev/sd[x])
Wanna explain this a little more in depth, where do I add the option to boot arch with root=/dev/sdxx? I only used the LIVE CD once before, not to familiar with it. Just covering all my basis as well.
In the meantime I will get started on the rest of this procedure. Thanks for the link, seems to be pretty straight forward. I also like the idea about doing it from LIVE CD session, this way I know exactly what is getting copied over. Makes me feel a little better about this process.
    Boot Arch Linux CD
As you follow these directions, you may find the Official Arch Linux Install Guide helpful as well. In addition, a printable copy is available.
Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and boot from it. You may have to change the boot order in your computer BIOS or press a key (usually F11 or F12) during the BIOS phase.
Some useful options when booting off the Arch Linux CD:
        * ide-legacy if you have trouble with IDE drives
        * noapic acpi=off pci=routeirq nosmp if your system hangs during the boot process
        * memtest86+ if you want to check your memory for errors
        * lowmem is useful for older machines. It requires only 96MB of system RAM vs 256MB for the normal install
Choose "Arch Linux Installation / Rescue System". If you need to change the boot options press e for editing the boot lines. The system will now boot and present a welcome text with some explanations when ready.
I answered my own question... thanks arch wiki!!!

ATIt's still not at all clear, but let me outline what I think you are after
    Given a database, ORCL_A
In database ORCL_A we have a schema, HALFTRACK
User HALFTRACK has a table, MYSTUFF
    Given a database, ORCL_B
In database ORCL_B we have a user GREENBRASS
User GREENBRASS needs to be able to query the table HALFTRACK.MYSTUFF.
In database ORCL_B, as user GREENBRASS
    create database link mylink
connect to halftrack identified by halftracks_pswd
    using ORCL_A;
select * from mytable@mylink;The db link defines a connection specification to ORCL_A, using the credentials of a user on ORCL_A. The target of the USING clause in the link definition must be an entry in the tnsames.ora file on the server hosting database ORCL_B.
When querying through the link, database ORCL_B is simply acting as a client to ORCL_A, no different that a sqlplus session on ORACL_B's server. As far as ORCL_A is concerned, ORCL_B is just another client requesting a connection, connecting with the credentials defined in the link definition.

  • Error while loading Delta request from one ODS to another

    Hi,
I have 2 ODS . ODS1 is the source ODS and ODS2 is the target ODS. ODS1 has full loads daily
I have initialised delta from ODS1 to ODS2 and i was loading delta on a daily basis.
Today while loading from ODS1 to ODS2 it failed. Then i deleted the data from ODS2 (Target ODS) and tried loading again. But it again said 'No delta possible'. So i deleted the full loads from ODS1. But when i load again it says the previous delta is invalidated since the full loads in the ODS1 are deleted. Can anyone of you please let me know how to handle this situation without re-initialising.
    Regards,
    Pramod

    Hi,
I am not sure if you can go ahead without initializing again.
I feel you may not have reset the datamart before pulling the repeat delta. This was a mistake. On top of that you have pulled a Full request. It should have been ideally a full repair.
If you still have that full request in target try converting that into full repair by using this SE38 > RSSM_SET_REPAIR_FULL_FLAG (Change a full request to full repair request )  .
If it works you have a chance of continuing with your deltas. But you may have lost the last delta.
If it doesnt work and you have not pulled any delta after that load you have two options to retrieve the delta.
    1. See if its in PSA. then pull from PSA and once done force request to green , next delta should be fine.
    2. If its not there try reset the datamart in source ODS and pulling the delta again.
If both doesnt work you may need to perform full repair and then reinit.
    Thanks,
    JituK
