Moving files with home share?

Sorry for the silly question.
I have never used the home share.
On my mac mini is a drobo with the main library on.
Back on my imac I have just imported a CD.
I can see the minis home share so select it and my music from the drobo appears, but I was under the impression I would be allowed to copy over the cd I imported on the iMac?
there does not appear to be a way to do that?

Why can't I import with home share?

I have followed the directions for home share. I can see the shared categories under homeshare on my new PC, but when I try to import the import button is like a like gray color and it won't let me import the music. I can play music but the old PC has to be on with the home share up and running. I am trying to get all of my itunes music to my new PC. Thank you for any help. Oh the new PC has Windows 8.

Since you have a miniDV camcorder, you will have to import your video into your Macbook Pro via a FireWire cable, but not just any FireWire Cable... You need a FIREWIRE 800 (9-pin) to FIREWIRE 400 (4-pin), like the one in the picture...
You can buy this cable online at any major tech retailer, such as Amazon, Newegg, Buy.com, etc.
After you connect your camcorder to your Macbook Pro with this cable, iMovie or whichever video editing software you are using, will automatically know that your camcorder is connected and will allow you the option to transer video from your connected device.
Importing from a FireWire tape-based Camera
Connect the camera and iMovie will automatically recognize it. The Import window will appear. You can use the transport controls to rewind, fast forward, stop and play the contents of the camera. Click on Automatic to rewind the tape and capture the whole tape's contents into iMovie. Choosing Manual will allow you to select and record just the parts of video that you wish.
If you connected the camera before iMovie was open, you may need to tell iMovie which camera to use. check that the correct camera is selected in the Import window:

or choose File > Import from Camera...

Simple question about moving files with applescript : Not finisched

I use this script now but the dubble files stays in folder A. I would like to delete the dubble files so the folder is empty after moving. With this script the dubble files keep is folder A.

Your script works fine on the same volume. If you are going to another volume (disk or server) a move become a duplicate by nature. You would have to delete the files after duplicate is complete.
After everthing is moved

Trouble with home share audio using ATV2 and Yamaha RX-V475 AV receiver

When I home share play a movie the audio isn't available. To get the audio I must hold down the ATV2 remote and change the speaker setting to the AV receiver. This has the effect of putting the receiver into Airplay input mode and I loose the video. If I reselect the correct input (HDMI channel) on the receiver for the ATV2 connection I get the audio back with the video. Any ideas?

You're going to have to free up that optical input.

IPhone 4s won't work with home share

Hello
I'm having problems with home sharing on my iPhone 4s. I can see my library but it just gets stuck in the half circle/half moon thing when loading.
My ipad 3 works fine with Itunes home sharing so I know how to set it up correctly. with Apple ID, and turn it on in Itunes.
iPhone is updated to 6.1.
Can anyone help please.

HT4527 Pb with Home share moving music and playlist transfers to new computer

I am trying to move my music library and playlists from my old computer (which I want to get rid of once I get my files transfered) to my new computer. After searching and reading, it seemed Home Sharing would be easiest method. I shared my library between my old and new computer. The help screen indicated you had to then save the shared list to the new computer if you want to deactivate the sharing feature (and not use other computer).
When I tried to copy music I'd shared onto new computer, it appears to work until I go to play the music on the computer. Then all the songs cut off about a minute from the end. How do I fix this problem?
Playlists: With the playlists, I followed the directions and exported my playlists to a memory stick and then imported them onto the new computer via itunes. The playlists all show up, but when I play music from the playlist it only plays the first 15 seconds of the song and then moves onto the next song. How do I fix this problem?

With a Mac, you'd connect the iPhone to the Mac using the USB cable and then launch iPhoto or whatever other photo/movie application you like, and then import the videos from the phone. You should be able to do the same with your PC; use whatever video importer you like, it should treat the iPhone like any other camera.
You can also use this iOS app, but it will only work pictures and with fairly short videos.

Moving Files with multiple HD's

Don't know the best place to put this. I just installed a 1TB HD in my Mac Pro. I was gonna use this drive for all my media files; Itunes, Iphoto, Illustrator and Photoshop, Word, etc. How do I setup to make all these programs save to my new hard drive? How do I move my current files to these HD's? I was hoping this would make things a little faster.
Second, I was gonna get another drive to put all my third party programs on. Can I move them over or do I have to uninstall and reinstall onto the new HD? I was thinking if I only had the OS by itself it would speed things up. Any help or comments would be great.

My reading is that the average useful life of an SSD should be considerably greater than a hard drive. The hard drive will eventually succumb to some sort of mechanical failure like bearing or head motor wear.

Moving files with same name, different extension (automator?)

I'm trying to find a way to move a large number of files in multiple directories (all at once or directory-by-directory, doesn't matter) if they have the same name but different extensions. For example, let's say I have a photo directory with the following files:
Photo1.jpg
Photo1.raw
Photo2.raw
Photo3.jpg
Photo3.raw
I would like to move the raw files "Photo1.raw" and "Photo3.raw" while leaving "Photo2.raw" in it's current location (as a sign that it doesn't have a JPG counterpart. I'm assuming this can be done using Automator. Can anyone offer some help? Also, it IS likely that the vast majority of files will have a common prefix (similar to "photo" in the above), if that's something that can be used.

Moving files with the Rezound

Hi would anyone happen to know how to moves files around within the HTC Rezound? Bought a ringtone with the idea of using it for notification alert. Unfortunately it does not show up in the List of available notification sounds just in the list of ring tones Is there a way I can move it from the ring tones folder to the Notifications folder?

You were almost there. Instead create the following folder structure on the SD card using a file explorer app.
SDcard/media/audio/notifications
Then move your downloaded file from the download folder to the notifications folder that you just created.

Cannot use Offline Files with DFS share: "Access denied" error for DfsrPrivate in Sync Center

I have an infrastructure that uses DFS to move files to different sites and we are using a GPO to define Offline Files for users at those sites. Whenever we try to initiate a manual sync, an error stating "Access
denied" is generated for all DfsrPrivate directories and the Sync Center reports it as a failed sync. We have tried giving Domain Users, Everyone, and invidiual accounts Write, Modify and even Full Control permissions to the DfsrPrivate directories and
as it seems, only users with administrative access and allowed to sync properly. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

I cannot help test on this moment but we should not create offline files on DfsrPrivate folders which will cause issue. Try to exclude those folders as Offline Files and it should work in Sync Center.

TS2972 Apple tv loses connection with home share

Recently received an apple tv as a gift. I connect it to iTunes through home sharing but the connection is lost after only a few minutes.

Well I firured it out, but dont know why it did this. When I restarted my computer and then opened itunes back up. Itunes changed the location of my media to the default location. (I changed the location of my library to my external time machine since it was becomeing to large). Again not sure why it decided to do this all of a sudden but that was the problem

Trying to use

Reading and writing. There is no move. You might try java.nio.channels.FileChannel:

Trouble with Home Share

I'm having trouble accessing my itunes Library from my AppleTV using home sharing. The appleTV can see my computer, and even updates when I change the Library name, but gives me an error message when I try to access the library. Any thoughts?

I am having the same issue as joefromCSH.
I have ensured I have the software up to date on all machines, re-installed iTunes, restored the iTV2, turned off sharing on all machines and re-activated and all to no avail!
I can, for example play a movie (or music) on my iMac's iTunes and select to play it on the iTV2 - this works fine. But when I select my library on the iTV2 I get the error messsage and nothing else.
The turning sharing on/off thing doesn't change the issue.
Other internet features of the Apple TV2 work fine.
Help!
