Moving Iplanet Temp dir. to another drive

Hi,
I would like to move the temp directory that Iplanet creates on
c:\winnt\system32\netscape to another drive. This is on NT box.
I appreciate all of your suggestions.

I appreciate all of your suggestions.Add the following line to your config/nsfc.conf:
TempDir=d:/path
If config/nsfc.conf does not exist, it's alright to create it. See the
Programmer's Guide for more information.

  • About moving an installed system to another drive.

In the future, I intend to move my install from my very small 9.2gb disk, to a considerably larger one (freshly formatted disk).  What is the best way to do this?  I know there's some way to back up files, but I have a hard time finding this...anyway, I'm just clueless as to what I would do to accomplish any of this.  And what if, just what if I tried to move this from the current ext3 to a Reiser 4?
Question:  Best way to transfer whole system to another drive.  Also, what was that command for backing up the system I know I've seen before, but have a hard time finding every time I think about it.
    Thanks alot!

Using tar vs using cp. There is some info in the forums you just have to dig a few months back. Also google will spit a lot of links if you ask it gently ;-)
Previous versions of the Mini How-To stated that you could also use tar to copy the disk, but this method was found to have a bug.
I have no idea it this is still true but I'm always using cp to move data from one disk to another. Just don't copy /dev, /proc and /sys - they should be recreated and use verbose option with cp.

  • Moving an FCP project to another drive.

i am new to FCP, and my current project is on a small drive. i want to move that project to another drive. i already transfered the project files manually to the new drive, but before i delete the project i want to make sure my transfer is correct. any ideas?
i mean, is there a special way to move projects? or just the manual way ( the same way you move ordinary files )...
    thanx

There are certain folders that go with each project - video capture, audio files, waveform files, render files; these are known as your scratch disk. If you transfer all of these folders to a new drive, you'll have everything you need to be up and running. Sounds like you did that, so just double check that you have all the files associated with your project and you should be good to go.
There is also Media Manager. You can use it to copy all of your files to a new location, among other things. I've only used a little, so rather than explain it wrong I'll just say look it up in the FCP manual.
    Hope that helps.

  • Moving music and video to another drive

I just installed a second hard drive on my computer and I plan on moving all media (i.e. music, video, pictures, etc.) to that drive. As I was thinking through the process, I realized that iTunes might take issue with this.
Any words of wisdom on how best to make this move without major impact to iTunes? Don't care about deleting/re-adding music and movies to the Library, that's easy enough. My big concern is losing any playlists, preferences or the like in the process. Not to mention what happens to whatever music I actually purchased on iTunes (very little).
Bottom line - am I better off making the move with the existing iTunes application installed and left to its own devices (no pun intended), helping iTunes find the "lost" files it will surely yell at me about, and proceeding from that direction, OR exporting my playlists, deleting iTunes outright (losing any music I purchased via iTunes in the process), reinstalling iTunes from scratch, reimporting the playlists, etc.?
    This should be easy, right?
Thanks in advance for your help.

That didn't work. It did lock the video clip into the layer that it was hovering in when I started holding shift (it would slide left and right but wouldnt go between layers) but as soon as I let go of the mouse to grab the audio track it unselected the entire clip.

  • Moved music folder to another drive, now iTunes won't open

I moved my music folder to another drive but when iTunes starting acting up I moved it back (in fact it got moved around and renamed a few times). I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes now but still get the same message when I try and open it "The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is in the "Music" folder". All my songs are still in my iTunes Music folder, everything else seems to be in place. Please help.

    Do a shift-start of itunes.
Press *AND HOLD* the shift key whilestarting ituens.
Keep pressing and holding until you get a prompt to choose an itunes library.
Browse to wherever your music/itunes folder is, and select iTunes Library.itl.

  • Using home dir on another volume, Time Machine let me not administrate it.

My problem is, that I am not able to administrate my home dir under Time Mashine's dialog.
I have moved my home dir to another 2nd softRAIDed volume. Works fine since 3 years.
So the 1st is, when I should select the backup volume, I only see my SoftRAID disk but not my system disk. So I selected that one.
Now I want to reduce the default backup set by pressing the + and there all my folders are grayed out ad with that not selectable, i.e. I am not able to reduce backup set for a couple of folders.
However I could select some folders under my 'empty' home dir on the system volume, which I do not use but it is still there from the scratch installation.
I think Time Machine does not consider those minor uses yet.
    Has anyone an idea?
    Thanks in advance!

You may be right...however you could help me to encircle my problem.
A friend of mine also backups up with TM to the same and only disk he has. There it works. Therefore I claim the same solution for me
There is also not the question if it makes sence to backup to the same disk, there you are strictly right and I commit that.
However I want to use Time Machine not as a usual backup solution and out of that reason it must backup to the same disk.
So it would be great if you could check if you can select your system drive (250GB) in principle. Does it appear? At me not.
Then if you are firm with TM you could change your backup drive to your data drive (750BG) and try to add an unbackuped folder...this is what not works at my set. And this is what I think is wrong with TM. Do you see what I mean?
    Thx!

  • Confusion about moving my iphoto library to another hard drive.

My startup drive is nearly full and I'd like to my my iPhoto library (I still have iphoto 4) and photos to another internal drive to free up some space. I've found brief help pages on how to do this, but I find them vague and unclear. Do I make an exact copy of the pictures folder on my startup drive on another drive? And then how do I get iPhoto to look there instead?
I'm about to import a whole lot of photos and I"d like to be ablt to view them all without filling up the startup drive.
Is there a detailed instruction page on how to do it? the "1.1.1 moving your iphoto library" info page was not detailed enough for me.

How much "more exact" could you get when you duplicate your iPhoto Library folder?
I'm not sure what source you're relying on, but iPhoto Help describes in pretty clear terms how to 1) move your iPhoto library, 2) how to make multiple iPhoto libraries, and 3) how to switch between iPhoto libraries. Sounds like what you want to do involves 1 & 3.
I guess I don't understand your reference to 1.1.1 when you have iPhoto 4 installed. Drag your iPhoto Library folder to the intended destination, then follow the Help instructions for switching between iPhoto libraries. If all is well, delete the old iPhoto Library folder.

  • Moving images along with project to another drive

I moved several projects (and their related events) to another drive, using Command-drag in the Project window.  I answered Yes to "Move Events?". And the video clips and music moved, but not the still images that were used in the project.  So, for example, if you open up that project, the timeline shows the thumbnail of the image, but on playback the image is not there. (Titles, music all moved OK).
Is there a way to move or otherwise relink the images to the project?  Yikes!

    Yes. Use FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA.

Due to space constraints I need to move my SCCM 2012 R2 database to another drive on the same system(server). I will run preinst/stopsite command to stop all sccm services, but wanted to know if I could copy and move the DB and Log files to their

  • Moving Imovie events from one hard drive to another

I have a Seagate external hard drive that started to fail, and I got a warranty replacement. Following Seagates advice, I moved all the files from one drive to the other by dragging them over. Everything seems to be transferred, but all the events are in one folder now rather than seperate ones for each of my kids games, bithhdays, etc. Is there a way to get it back to seperate folders? Thanks...

  • Music not showing up in my Music Library after moving to another drive

My C: drive was full, so I moved the file to my F: drive (have done this before, but somehow it only copied it and reverted to the old location on C).
I found multiple iTunes folders throughout my many drives and got rid of all but the ones on the F: drive. It now shows multiple folders with all my songs on F: drive. However, they do not show up in my Music Library. I've tried the preferences \advanced \general \copy music to library trick and still nothing. Don't think I lost the music since I have all these folders (1 for each artist) and it looks like a lot of bytes.
    Please help..
Alternatively, I'd like to know how to get the whole library on my laptop and off of this old computer that ran out of space. The F: drive is detachable.
    Thank you in advance

Do you use iTunes Match?  Others have complained that it can take some time (overnight?) for items to appear in their library because of Match activities.
Can you play a file with Quicktime Player?  Is it complete?
Delete an item from the library but not the actual file.  Add the file again.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with exporting images to another drive and Catalogue and need some help if anyone can give me some advice
I am currently using Lightroom 5.6 and operating on a Mac with OSX Ver 10.9.5.
I am receiving an error problem when doing the following -
I am exporting selected photos from a particular Catalogue saved on Drive 1 to a folder created on another Drive where a Lightroom Catalogue has been created. In this Catalogue I have arranged for the images once exported to be moved to a different folder - I used the Auto Import process under the File dialogue box.
When processing the Export I receive an error message for each of the images being exported indicating the following -
    Heading Import Results
Some import operations were not performed
Could not move a file to requested location. (1)
then a description of the image with file name
    Box Save As                                  Box  OK
If I click the OK button to each image I can then go to the other Catalogue and all images are then transferred to the file as required.
To click the OK button each time is time consuming, possibly I have missed an action or maybe you can advise an alternative method to save the time in actioning this process.
Thanks if you can can help out.

Thank You, but this is a gong show. Why is something that is so important to us all so very, very difficult to do?

  • HT3523 I can play an .mov file but cannot open it to move it to another drive/disc/etc. When we try to open it, we get a message that says "The movie file for "beanmine.mov" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly."

We can play a .mov file (a full-length film created in final cut pro) but cannot actually open it in QuickTime. We get the error message saying that a file is missing, and the movie can't play properly without the file. The thing is, we can play the film, we just can't open it to move it to another drive. Help?
Also, can the lost file (which was deleted) be recovered from a Mac HD or an external hard drive?

Sounds like you created a "Reference" file here. I.e., a "Reference" file is a file that tells the player how to play the data contained in a "Resource" file. When you try to open the "Reference" file in the QT Player app, the first thing the player does is check to see if the "Resource" data file is is still available where it is supposed to be. (I.e., moving/deleting the resource file or moving reference file without moving the resource file to maintain the relative path between the two will generate the error message you mentioned.)
Also, can the lost file (which was deleted) be recovered from a Mac HD or an external hard drive?
That depends. Deleting a file does not actually erase the data immediately. Instead, the operating system just tells the system directory that the space containing the movie data is available for reuse if/when needed. As time passes, the chance that some of the data sectors will be re-written by other data continuously increases. To restore the file normally requires use of a special utility that both locates and restores all of the linked sectors containing the "deleted" movie data in their correct order. Other methods of restoring files would depend on the software you routinely have active on your system. For instance, do you use "TimeMachine?" or orther software that automatically backs up your data periodically? If so, then follow the instructions for your particular application to recover a deleted file.
