Moving TM to another disc

Hello Everyone,
I have realised that the initial disc that I set TM up on is not going to be of adequate size. Is it possible to transfer the TM backup file to a new, larger disc and have TM continue backing up to it? Or would I be better to just start again.
Any help would be gratefully received,
Cheers
Mark

Mark,
Yes, it is possible, and it is pretty simple to pull off.
First, you'll need to decide what size drive to purchase. You will need 2 to 3 times the size needed to accommodate the data on your startup disk. However, I recommend you purchase a much larger drive, if you can. You would then partition the drive using the "GUID Partition Scheme," which would allow you to dynamically re-partition and re-size the volumes at a later time. Let's assume that you currently need 200 GBs for Time Machine, and you purchase a 500 GB drive. You would create a first partition of 200 GBs for Time Machine, then two more partitions of about 90 GBs each (a 500 GB drive only delivers about 480 GBs in reality).
You could use the "secondary" partitions as and how you like, until it becomes necessary to increase the size of the TM volume. At this time, the first of these secondaries could be deleted, and the Time Machine volume expanded into the resultant free space. Likewise, the third partition could also be removed to allow even more expansion when needed. Add to this the fact that larger drives are more cost effective (up to a point), and the argument for a larger drive becomes pretty compelling.
The rest assumes you have your new drive, and have it set up as you prefer:
1) First, turn off Time Machine. Connect both your old TM drive and your new one, then open Disk Utility.
2) In the "source list" at the left, select the indented, named volume on which your current Time Machine backup is located, then click the "Restore" tab.
3) Drag the selected volume (where the current backup is stored) from the source list to the "Source" field in the body of the window. Then, locate your new volume in the source list and drag it to the "Destination" field. Make sure you drag the named volume, not the drive (or "Device") under which it is indented.
4) Enable "Erase Destination," then click the "Restore" button.
Once everything has been copied (it may take quite some time), eject both drives. Turn Time Machine back on, then connect your new drive again. Time Machine should recognize it as "its" drive, and commence backups right where you left off.

  • Error after moving user to another organiz.l unit (Edir)

I am moving users to another org. units.
For 2 users, i keeep seeing the following error in /var/log/datasync/connectors/default.pipeline1.mobility-AppInterface.log:
ERROR [Device_Thread-29] [sync:252] [userID:cn=**,ou=**,o=**] [eventID:] [objectID:] [Sync] Fatal - unable to find folder object for folderId = 2
    Any idea?

If you are moving users around OUs/Orgs then you will need to remove them from the connector, wait for them to vanish, move user in eDirectory, re-add to connector. As far as I'm aware this is a limitation in all Datasync connectors that link to eDirectory.

Do you still have access to the old MacBook Pro? If so, you can transfer the license by copying the com.apple.iwork.plist from Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences to the same location on the new Mac. Note that this IS the main HD Library, not your user library. I have found that these files are not moved during setup or migration.
Are you really running Tiger 10.4.7? If so, you should update to 10.4.11. You can find the updater here. You also might consider buying the retail disk of iWork '09 from a third-party such as Amazon.com or eBay. It will add a lot of features for you. iWork '09 does require Tiger 10.4.11 at a minimum.

  • Moved Masters to another Project, Icons not visible

    Greetings,
In aperture I moved masters to another project. Looking into the new project several icons don't show (greyed) the photos.
Anyone know how to undo or get them visible again?
    Thanks!
Left one is visible, right one greyed-out (2 different photos). I can open the greyed-out photo though but browsing is a hassle, opening the greyd-out photos to see what it is every time.

This looks like the thumbnails cannot be read. Try to recreate the thumbnails for the project:
Select the photos, and from Aperture's main menu bar use:
         Photos > Generate Thumbnails.
Does that bring the thumbnails back?  If not, check, if the backup of your Aperture library is current, back up, if necessary, and run the Aperture Library First Aid tools to repair the permissions, the database, and if necessary rebuild the library.

  • Mouse cursor moving mask over another image.

Hi, Is it possible to have where the Mouse cursor is on the page moving mask over another image. Imagine a black screen with a star cut out of the middle(where the cursor is) and u can see the image behind.
Any examples on how to do this?
Can it be done in html instead?

Create the mask and the background as movieclips and then assign the mask as the mask property of the bacground movieclip... as in background.mask = msk (where msk is the instance name of the mask).
Then assign a MOUSE_MOVE event listener to the mask and in the event handler for that listener have its x and y properties assigned to be the mouseX and mouseY properties

    I'm confused.
You moved iTunes to another drive and then then you copied the iTunes folder to the D: drive?
How did you first move iTunes to another drive?
Then why did you copy the iTunes folder after that? Isn't this moving iTunes to another drive"
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you copied to the other drive.

  • Moving MAIL to another internal hard drive?

I'm out of room on my start-up drive, and I have been considering moving the apple MAIL program off of the main start-up drive and onto one of my other internal hard drives.  (I get the impression MAIL and all the eMail & stuff stored with it takes up a LOT of space!)
can anyone tell me what the steps would be in moving MAIL to another hard drive?
    Thanks!

What else is on your boot drive? Move that to a data drive first and always (music, photo, video, etc) all your user data.
Then consider moving the home folder to another drive, very easy from the User control panel (use to be Accounts).
Move the system to an SSD or SSD-PCIe
Put "user account" on its own drive (SSD maybe as well)
A data drive. 4TB drives are fast and more affordable.
PCIe so you aren't using the 4 drive bays and can do SATA III and faster (SSD devices that are faster than a pair of SSDs)
Create a lean system boot drive with only OS and apps.

  • Moving an Aperture Library to another disc.

I currently have my Aperture library on an external hard drive, as well as all the image files. Is it possible to move the Library to my laptop's hard drive, but to leave the image files on the external drive, and not lose any of the adjustments I have made?
How would I go about doing this?

Yes you can do this. Relocate the masters in your library on the external HD to a suitable folder structure on your external HD. This will be fast since no images will be copied.
Then copy the library (now smaller) to your internal HD. To ensure you know which library you are opening, double click the library icon when you want to open it. Once you are sure everything is fine, delete the old library on the external drive.

  • Issues with subject line when moving emails to another folder

    Hi.
For the past few months I've been having a problem moving groups of emails from my inbox to another created folder. When I move a group of emails to another folder the subject of all the emails swap with each other. The issue seems to be with the iPhone native mail app only as when I connect via iPad or web the emails are correct.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Not that I'm aware of.
Mail.app isn't a particularly scalable database in general, so you might want to look at your workflow.
For better or worse, email is often ill-suited as a general information-storage and transfer mechanism.
You might be able to set up a Rule to perform the move when the message arrives; if the mail messages involved are uniquely identifiable.
It's also possible to implement server-side rules, depending on what you're up to, and what your own mail server or particular your mail provider supports here.
I'm using a combination of these two approaches locally.
Or swap out for a different mail client or a mail-handling package; a package or a tool that's better suited for the scale that you're apparently working at, and the requirements you have.

  • How do I move my Itunes Libray to another disc on my PC?

My primary (i.e. with the OS) hard disk is nearly full and I would like to move Itunes Library to another larger disk (on the same PC)
How can I move this without losing the shares that exist on my network with other PCs?
Is it possible to install Itunes on the other disk and just do an export?
    I'm using Itunes 8.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated,
    Arnie

You might find these articles useful, the first one refers to using an external drive however the process is essentially the same with an internal drive:

  • Whole gallery disappear when moving it from another folder

Hope i can get some clues here of something i find more than strange.
I was working on Photoshop and moving some images within Bridge and i noticed my Iphoto Library was inside another subfolder, to clarify i keep it in an external drive. So i grab it (the libray) and drag it outside the other folder when i noticed i was actually copying the whole library outside.
I stop the action and i moved the library instead, then i have a message saying that it was a folder already named 'Iphoto Library' in that location (the half copy one) and if i want to replace it, i press ok to replace, then its copying into new location...a window pops up and reads -error action cannot be continue- and the my whole library disappear. No original one nor even the copy bit, gone..
I search through with every keywords, Trash, even making a search in finder for JPEG bigger than 100kb..
I am talking here about over 20,000 pictures, so it is really strange if i'm not bump even into one image at all, and how a folder can just delete itself, specially a big one like that.
    It makes no sense.
    Any help?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Here's a tip: choose between iPhoto and Bridge. Using Bridg on photos managed by iPhoto makes it very easy to damage the iPhoto Library. So, one of the other is my first advice.
So i grab it (the libray) and drag it outside the other folder when i noticed i was actually copying the whole library outside.
When you move an item on the same volume then it just moves. When you move an item between volumes then it gets copied. This sounds like you've moved your Library from one volume to another.
Were you doing these moves with Bridge or the Finder?
o it is really strange if i'm not bump even into one image at all, and how a folder can just delete itself, specially a big one like that.
It didn't delete itself, you deleted it, I'm afraid. It sounds like you made a partial copy then copied the partial copy over the original.
Check out a file recovery software such as File Salvage

  • Submit button doesn't work after moving form to another parent container

I'm re-arranging the page using jquery. When I moved a div or table containing a form to another div, the submit button doesn't work anymore. Using the emulation mode under the Inspect Element feature of IE, the same code works for IE9 but not under IE10
    and up.
    Any ideas?

I will steal the answer that George gave to a similar question, because it turns out it is applicable here as well:
George Johnson  on Feb 23, 2012 11:17 AM
When you distribute a form, it replaces the email address that you've set up in a submit button with the email address you have specified in "Edit > Preferences > Identity > Email Address". So before you initiate the Distribute Form process, change the email address there to the one you want to use.
It is a ridiculous solution, because it means I have to make the identity of my personal copy of Acrobat the email address of someone else or some other department when I make the form, but whatever -- at least the form sends now.

  • Authorization and moving employes to another organizational assignment

Hello! I have a big problem with authorization.
Lately some employes have been moved from one organizational assignment to another organizational assignment.
After moving I prepared the user and the role for this user he will be able to read infotype records for employes in the organizational assignment where they were moved.
And now I have big problem because this user can read data of employes in current organizational assignment and also  data of these people in old organizational assignment, thought I didn't give him authorization for this old organizational assignment.
I checked view of table V_T582A and there in infotype 0001, 0007, 0008 in detailes the field: Access auth was checked, so I executed tests and this field was unchecked. But this test wasn't successfule.

    AUTSW     ORGPD     0
    AUTSW     ORGXX     0

    Hello Marta,
yes, the behaviour is corret. The old one can not see the new data but the new one the old. It's like a personal file where the new manager has access to and the old only knows what was entered up to the end of his responsibility.
