Moving to CM from non-cm

We are currently tsting moving applications which use Headstart 6i from a non-versioned to a versioned repository. Is there a difference between non-cm and cm headstart application? If so, how do we reconcile the two headstart applications?

Or is the "non self contained" QT movie from FCE, just a placeholder like a >project and as such when burnt with iDVD that is the only encoding step and >the QT file points to the original files?
That's right, it's a Refernece file that will give you close to the original as it gets. Transcoding from DV to Mpeg2 will always reveal some loss regardless of how or what application process is used, CBR or VBR or 2 pass VBR.
I've used FCE and iDVD for years and cannot complain about the output.
The results to untrained eye should be close to playing the DV tape directly from your camera.

We are migrating non-asm file system to asm file system, we are held up in moving the spfile from non-asm file system to asm file system ...
we tried the below method
Recreate SPFILE on ASM diskgroup
SQL> create pfile='c:\initTEST.ora' from spfile;
File created.
SQL> create spfile='+DGRP2/spfileTEST.ora' from pfile='c:\initTEST.ora';
File created.
after this we started both the running instance and asm instance
but after starting the instance TEST we saw the instance still using spfile of non-asm file system
what is the correct way of moving the spfile from non-asm to asm file system..

You need to perform this first:
First rename the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileTEST.ora to spfileTEST.ora_old
create initTEST.ora in dbs location with below contents:
Also i recommend you to recreate the spfile in ASM as it might not be in good shape.
When ever you start the oracle instance there is a specific order to find the oracle pfile/spfile
1. O_H/dbs/spfile<SID>.ora
2. O_H/dbs/init<SID>.ora
3. O_H/dbs/spfile.ora
4. O_H/dbs/init.ora
in your case instance always finds spfileTEST.ora in dbs location (non -ASM) and will stop looking further. If you remove it our of the way it will find initTEST.ora which will redirect to spfile present in ASM.
NOTE: As per your earlier update you created spfile in ASM after puttin spfile='+DG...' in the initTEST.ora..
If you start the instance with this SPFILE you will be getting "maxmimum cursors limit exceeded" error.

Moving Apps-Tier from One Server to Another Server

We are on R12.1.3 and details
Datbase Version : 11.2.0.3
E-Business Version : 12.1.3
Operating System : Solaris 10 on both servers A & B
Source Server Details : Server A
Source Instance : Single Tier
User : Oracle
Tier : DB
User : Applmgr
Tier : Apps
Application Tier : Concurrent / Forms / Web / Others
Our Goal is to moving Apps-Tier from Server A to Server B
Steps we followed as part of this :
1. Shutdown apps-Tier services on Server A
2. Ran adpreclone.pl on apps-Tier on Server A
3, Copy apps-Tier files from Server A to Server B
4. Ran adcfgclone.pl appsTier on Server B
5, perl adaddnode.pl on Server B
By Following above steps we are not able to bring up concurrent managers.
Please suggest us if we are doing anything wrong.

Please run cmclean.sql and ccm.sql as per these docs.

Converting from non-static to static

I am tyring to convert a method from non-static to static. I changed a few variables to get it to work and everything is now static in the method except for the getClass() method which it calls, does anyone know how I could work around this.
Heres the method -

Moved PowerMac G5 from UK to NZ, why doesn't it work?

I've just moved to NZ from the UK and had my powermac G5 (2x2Ghz) and my 23 inch Cinema display shipped over. Everything seems to have survived the shipping, but the plugs here are different from in the UK so I've been having to use adaptors.
Problem is, my cinema display works fine, my MacBook Pro (also bought in UK and using an adaptor) works fine - but the PowerMac won't start up. The LED will light for as long as I hold the power button, but then it goes off ...
do i need to buy a new powercable? NZ theoretically has the same power supply specs as the UK, so what gives? Any help gratefully received..

Hi. As you say, the mains specs. for NZ are similar to UK and, no doubt, you are using a 3-pin adapter with an earth/ground pin. The G5 should adapt to different voltages, automatically(within limits).
Assuming there is a relay click, low-down at the back of the G5, from the Power Supply Unit when the mains is first connected, you could try a PMU/SMU reset.

Note static precautions and make sure to press the button once only.
While you have the side off, you could check that any accessible connectors are in place.
It's possible that the internal back-up battery has been under a bit of stress during the voyage, and disconnection from the mains, and may need replacing. If the PMU reset hasn't worked you could try it again when you have replaced the battery

It will read the data from excel sheet column wise and then store it in ITAB. you can change the order after reading the file.
In case of Text file use FM GUI_UPLOAD.
You can change the order of the fileds after reading it from file, but the length and all you have to make compatible to SAP standard fields.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Where p_filin is other Windows server.Our applicition server is under Unix.Is it a problem?

Hi,
Yes it is possible to read data from a non SAP server through the statement OPEN DATASET.
The important thing to check is that the SAP Server got enough access to the non SAP server so it can perform a reading/writing process depending on your needs.
You should contact your network administrator and BASIS to help you check the permissions. This can be pretty tricky, specially if the servers are in different domains.

We have facing performance degradation after setting filesystemio_option=setall from none on my two servers as mentioned below.

We are seeing lots of Disk I/O happening. We expected "*filesystemio_option=setall* " will improve performance but it is degrading. We getting slowness complains.
Please let me know do we need to set somethign else along with this ...like any otimizer parameter( e.g. optimizer_index_cost_adj, optimizer_index_caching).

You switched filesystemio_options to setall from none, so, the most likely reason for performance degradation after switching to setall is the implementation of directio. Direct I/O will skip the filesystem buffer cache, and and allow Oracle to read directly from disk to the database buffer cache. However, on a system where direct I/O is not implemented, which is what you had until you recently messed with that parameter, it's likely that you had an undersized database buffer cache, but that was ok, because many (most) of the physical I/Os your database was doing, were actually being serviced by the O/S filesystem buffer cache. But, you introduced direct I/O, and wiped out the ability of the O/S to service any physical I/Os from filesystem buffer cache. This means that every cache miss on the database buffer cache, turns into a real, physical, spin-the-disk, move-the-drive-head, physical I/O. And, you are suffering the performance consequences.

Ok, end of speculation. Now, assuming that what I've outlined above is actually going on, what to do? Why is direct I/O lower performing than buffered, non-direct I/O? Shouldn't it's performance be superior?
Well, when you have an established system that's using buffered I/O, and you switch to direct I/O, you almost always will have to increase the size of the database buffer cache. The problem is that you took a huge chunk of memory away from the the O/S, that it was using to buffer your I/Os and avoid physical I/O. So, now, you need to make up for it, by increasing the size of the database buffer cache. You can do this, without buying more memory for the box, because the O/S is no longer going to need to use so much memory for filesystem buffers.
So, what to do? Is it worth switching? Well, on balance, it makes sense to use direct I/O, and give Oracle a larger database buffer cache, for the simple fact that (particularly on a server that's dedicated to being an Oracle database server), Oracle has far more sophisticated caching algorithms, and a better understanding of the various types of data being cached, and so should be able to make more efficient use of the memory, than the (relatively) brain dead caching algorithms of the kernel and filesystem mechanisms.
But, once again, it all comes down to this:
What problem are you trying to solve? Did you have any I/O related issues? Do you have any compelling reason to implement direct I/O? Rule #1 is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Did you just violate rule #1? :-)
Finally, since you're on Linux, you can use the 'free' command to see how much memory is on the box, how much is free, and how much is dedicated to filesystem cache buffers. This response is already pretty long, so, I'm not going to get into details, however, if you're not familiar with the command, the results could be misleading. Read the man page, and try to be clear about understanding it before you make any assumptions about the output.

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.
