Moving TOC Entries Between Projects

Howdy all ye grand RoboHelpers!
I have several topics and TOC entries in a smaller project
that I'm trying to move over into our large core help project. I've
imported the files already, but I'm wondering if there is there a
fast and easy way to move the TOC entries? I know I can go in and
modify the .HHC file and copy and paste the appropriate section of
code into my core project's hhc file, but I'm just wondering if
there's an easier way? I tried copying and pasting from one project
to another, but that doesn't work.

Hi Jared
Well, there's a huge potential wrinkle here.
* Do the topics you have imported reside in the exact
relative folder location in the new project? For example, if the
old project had four topics found in a folder named "MyFolder", do
you have a matching "MyFolder" folder in the new project? If the
answer to that is no, then copying the TOC entries will likely
prove futile.
I see you have listed 7.03 as your RoboHelp version. Assuming
you DO have a folder in the same location in the new project, you
might be able to fudge things a bit by creating a New TOC and
copying the one with the entries. Then using a placeholder in the
existing TOC to insert the section you copied.
To create a new TOC:
Display the TOC Editing Pod.
Ensure you are able to see all the icons in the TOC Pod
toolbar. This may require clicking and dragging to make it wider.
Or you may click the dark blue area on the right side of the TOC
Editor Toolbar and the extra icons will pop down. Click the icon
with the yellow starburst on it. This should display the "Select
TOC" dialog.
Click the New button.
Type a name to reference the TOC and click to place a check
mark in the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. This
should enable the button with the ellipsis on it.
Click the ellipsis button.
Browse to and select the TOC you wish to copy.
Edit the TOC so it has only the entries and arrangement you
want.
To insert the TOC Placeholder:
From the main TOC, click the TOC Placeholder icon in the TOC
editor toolbar. This icon looks like a page surrounded by two red
brackets.
Click the "Select Table of Contents" drop-down and choose the
new TOC.
Click OK.
Arrange the TOC Placeholder where you want it in the main
TOC.
Hopefully this will help get you what you need... Rick

  • Is there a way to remove the .swf extension from the TOC entries in an aggregator project?

I've created a Captivate 5 aggregator project that includes swf outputs which were also published using Captivate 5. The TOC entries in the aggregator project all show the published file name followed by the .swf extension (see attached image). Is there a way to hide the .swf extension in the TOC entries?

Yes, a colleague of mine was able to figure it out. Just double-click the chapter title in the .aggr project. It places it into edit mode and allows you to remove the ".swf" extension as well as make any other changes to the name that you want. It's so easy now that we know how to do it, but it was tricky to figure out since the chapter list does not appear editable at first.

  • Moving photos between projects

I'm having a problem - erratically - moving photos from one project to another. When I select one photo & drag it to a different project - the entire project gets moved instead of just the one selected photo. (I've double checked that there are no photos selected before I select the photo that I want to move.)
If I cancel the move, I end up with missing thumbnails & sometimes missing photos.
This is erratic because sometimes dragging one photo to another project works.

It is really hard to tell what might be happening - we need more details:
What is your Aperture version? The most recent Aperture 3.4.1?
Are your images referenced or managed? Raw or jpegs?
How did you edit them? With Aperture or an external editor?
Do you create new versions when editing and stack them, or edit the current version?
And after moving to a new project, the preview of the version shows the original master, but the thumbnail shows the original edits? Is that correct?
I Suspect, when you moved the images, they lost their previews. As a test, duplicate an image version (Photo > Duplicate Version) and force the generation of a new preview (Ctrl-click, hold down the options key ⌥, select "Generate Preview"). Does that bring back the edits? Also you could try to export the image version ans see, if the edits are still there.

  • Moving clips between projects, without rendering them

Is this possible? I work on a Macbook Pro, using CS4 production premium. How can I move clips between projects in PP CS4?
I KNOW there's a way. Just can't figure it out.
    Thanks!

The easiest, IMO, is to Open your source Project and remove everything that will not be needed. Do a Save_As. Import that Save_As Project into your new one. Be sure to then twirl open the Bins, and Dbl-click on the Save_As Project's Timeline.
    Hunt
PS I also go to Project and choose Delete Unused (or similar syntax) to clean things up for the Save_As.

  • RoboHelp5: Linking between project and subproject

I have a master project and four subprojects They all exist
in a flat directory; that is, the master project folder and all
subproject folders are on the same directory level. I can merge the
projects fine but when I try to add a hyperlink from a topic in the
master project to a topic in one of the subprojects, the link
disappears when I compile the master project.
I searched adobe for the answer and found a page that
describes "Linking Between Merged WebHelp Projects", however the
instructions suggest putting the subproject folders within the
master project directory. I keep a set of test projects available
just to practice things on without breaking my actual work and
tried this out. I couldn't create merged projects using this method
at all. The merged project link would appear in the TOC but when I
complied the master project and viewed the results. the merged
    projects didn't appear.
Any ideas on how I can merge projects *and* create hyperlinks
between the master and subprojects? Thanks.

Just to clarify, I've got my test project organized as
follows (as per information from Peter Grainge's site):
Master: This is the top-level master project. The single
folder contains only one topic which is named "null" and I deleted
all text including the title from that topic. The TOC of this
project starts out as containing no information.
Child: This folder is at the same level of the directory as
the Master folder and contains the directories for each of the
    subprojects.
    Subproject1
    Subproject2
    Subproject3
All three of these subprojects are located inside the Child
folder so that all of my actual project content exist on the same
    directory level.
From here, I go to the master project in the Null topic and
on Null's TOC, I create the Merged Project links to the three
subprojects. So far, everything works swimmingly. Then I try to
create a link between a topic in Subproject1 and Subproject3.
The link seems to be created correctly, but I do get a
warning message stating that it may not endure when the project
files are moved. When I look at the page with the link in preview
mode, the link exists and works.
I compile the three subprojects and recreate the merge links
to the subprojects in the master project, the recompile the master.
I click "view result" and navigate to the page that is supposed to
contain the link and (alas) the link is just plain text.
That's where I am so far. Still going to work through the
material on Peter's site to see if I missed something.
EDIT: I can see the subprojects in the master just fine,
Colum. But when I try to create a hyperlink on one topic in one
subproject to a topic in another subproject, when all the projects
are compiled, the hyperlink itself is broken. Does that
    clarify?

  • Why can't I cut and paste photos between project?

I recently made the transition from iPhoto to Aperture. One of the weird things is that I can't cut and paste photos between projects. In iPhoto this is an easy way to organize your projects if some photos are in the wrong place.
You also can't split projects, in iPhoto you can do this easily. Say, if two day's photos ending being in the same project, in iPhoto there's a button that you split them in the middle. Is there something like this in Aperture?

    Copy and Paste:
In iPhoto "copy and paste" was possible, because it was not possible in the early versions, to see both projects at the same time, the one you are moving from, and the one you are moving to.
In Aperture you simply drag from the source project to the destination project to move image versions around. Also, it is easy to see more than one project in the Browser at the same time, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Two or More Browsers Open
To drag to another project, select the images in the project, then drag to the other project in the source list, for example:
To split a project, select the images you want to have in the split part, then create a new project from these images: Enable the check mark "Move selected items to new project". This will split the original project.

  • Can you import one TOC from one project to another? (RH9)

I have been working on a complicated project in RH9. (all work done in RH)
I made all the modifications to the htm files that I needed.
I went to rename the .htt file and upon entry, RH 9 CRASHED!
When I reopened, my TOC was entirely GONE!
Luckily, I made a backup of the entire directory a few hours ago.
    Options:
A.) Revert to backup and redo hours of work (not what I want to do).
B.) Somehow import the TOC from the backup to the new project.
I hope this is a dumb question and very easy to do. It is a VERY complex TOC (prints out to 11 pages) so I do not want to redo from scratch.
I await all of your expert advice.
    Thank you so much!
    DianaJ

    Hi,
To import a TOC into existing project you may follow the steps as below:
    1. Go to Project Manager POD and expand the TOC folder
    2. Click New TOC in the Right Click Menu
    3. Give the desired name to the TOC you want
    4. Check the checkbox "Copy existing Table of Contents" and browse to the TOC file that you want to import
    5. Click OK and all contents of the TOC should be imported.
    I hope it works
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from appending characters to the end of the URL address for a TOC Entry?

I am running RoboHelp 10 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64 bit OS.
WebHelp is appending characters to the end of the TOC entry's URL address. The characters "bc-n" where n is a number are being generated for all of the TOC Page Entries when I generate WebHelp output. We are exporting the HTML files for import into an application. The TOC Page Properties Link to: property does not contain the characters in RoboHelp.
We have standardized names defined for our application and the appended characters are not going to work in the application.
    cid:[email protected]
When I use the generated html output in IE10 Version 10.0.9200.16635 Update Versions: 10.0.7 (KB2846071) the characters show up in the URL when I hover the mouse over the TOC entry as shown in the screenshot below.
    cid:[email protected]
The two screenshots show that the Link to property does not have the characters "bc-7" but the URL address does.
Is there a setting or way to configure RoboHelp to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from generating and appending characters to the end of the URL address for TOC Entries?

I have never known Rh add any characters so I think something else is at play here. Please open one of the sample projects and see what happens there. Click Open on the RoboHelp Starter page and then click Samples in the ribbon on the left.

  • How do I update linked FM files without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?

    Hi,
I'm using RH 10 with linked FM 11 files to create a WebHelp project and this is what happens when I do an update or force update of a linked file in the RH project:
After the update, the topic that contains updated content gets deleted from project TOC in RH.
After the update, any Map IDs assigned to the topic that contains the updated content are deleted.
Can someone please advise how to update a linked file without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Gabe

    HI Gabe,
You will want to link the TOC from FM in your conversion settings, and set the map id's via TopicAlias markers in FM.

  • Extendscript that duplicates a hypertext marker in a TOC entry

    Hi everybody,
I guess many Framemaker users have encountered the following issue in Framemaker: when adding a character format to a word/character inside a heading (while the rest of the heading has its "usual" format), the corresponding TOC link area is partially clickable. The reason for this is that the “foreign” character format somehow disrupts the hypertext command. The only workaround proposed on the Web is to use a Framescript to duplicate the hypertext marker in the TOC entry each time the character format is changed. Is it possible to create an Extendscript that does that?
Thank you for your input in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Roman

    Roman,
Yes this is definiotely possible and the algorithm could be identical to the FrameScript solution. I can think of two methods: Either using Copy and Paste to create the second instance of the marker or – as a marker is such a simple object – just read the MarkerText property from the existing marker and create a new Hypertext marker at the appropriate text location and set the MarkerText.
I once did a comparison between FrameScript and ExtendScript solutions (see http://wp.me/p25LLF-4n ) and you can use the same algorithms.

  • TOC entry without new topic

I have a multi-chapter project in FrameMaker 12 that I've linked in RH11. I use RH to auto-generate the TOC. The first page of each topic has the first two headings from each FM chapter, with the remaining headings starting each remaining topic. I've done this by creating and mapping two paragraph styles in FM. H0, H1, and H1A. I use FM to auto number them like this:
    100 H0 Chapter title
    101 H1A Topic 1
    102 H1 Topic 2
    103 H1 Topic 3
In RH Project Settings / FM conversion settings, I set H1 to start a new topic, which creates a corresponding TOC entry. I've set H1A to not start a new topic because my client wants it on the same page as the first topic. However this of course doesn't create a TOC entry. This makes it look like the H1A entry is missing from the document.
Is there a way to have RH include a FM paragraph in the TOC, but exclude it from creating a new topic?

I already had the TOC in FM, along with the index and glossary. I'm transitioning my client to publish online, but they want to keep the PDF publish option. When I brought the FM content to RH and started styling the Responsive HTML5, I wanted to keep the first two H1 sections on the first page of each topic and have the remaining FM heading start new topics. So I created the H1A format in FM and used that for the 2nd heading in FM. Then in the RH conversion settings I set H1 to start a new topic, but not H1A. But the H1A was excluded from the imported and published TOC. I mistakenly assumed that was because I didn't have it set to a new topic also. Once I read the responses here I backed up and realized that it was actually because I didn't add H1A to the FM TOC after I created that para format in FM. Stupid mistake.

  • Right align page numbers that are to the left of TOC entries

I posted a similar question about a year ago that I believe Harbs or Peter answered, but darned if I can find the thread. At that time they provided a script that did a GREP search, finding a sentence that starts with a digit and replacing it with a tab. I still have the script, but for some reason it is not working correctly with my new TOC layout. It should insert a tab to the left of the page number (page numbers are to the left of the TOC entries), and force the numbers to right align so that a single digit page number right aligns with the right edge of a double-digit page number.
    Find: ^(\d+)
    Change to: \t$1
What happens in the new TOC is the script finds a digit and inserts a tab to the left of the page number. The page numbers move to the right, but they don't right align. They are further to the right, but they numbers themselves are still left aligned.
I'm mystified as to why the script doesn't work on this new layout. I'm using CS4 now, and it still works on the old layout. There is nothing terribly different about the new layout except that the column is much narrower, and there are several threaded colums in the TOC instead of one long column, and the chapter titles don't have page numbers (but all other entries do have page numbers.)

    Peter,
Thanks for your reply. Between the page number and the entry is an en-space.
    I started with these settings:
I then changed the left aligned tab to a right aligned tab:
    But still no luck.

  • Link between Project and Sales Order

Apart from sales order can we have a link between project and customer master ??
I know that WBS element assignment can be made in sales order but i want to have link between
customer master and project. I don't want any user field or text field in sales order.
    Any idea ?
    Regards
    Ashish

    Yes Mr Ashish!
As far as iam concern there is no link between Project & Customer Master, you have to link it with SALES order, I had check in XD03,XD01, the complete customer master, i didnt find any field in customer master which links with Project.
I'll let you know if i find any links.

  • File not found in Link Between Projects Window - test no edit rights to other file

    Hi,
I am doing a test to see if i can create a link by typing the link path (f.i. <>\plan2\1) in the predecessor column without having edit rights to the other plan.
I expect this to be possible as the edit in the other plan (creation of link) is only done after the change is accepted through the LBP (link between projects) window. Besides, when i do it to both my own plans, in this LBP window i get 'create external
    link' as difference to accept.
When I do it on Project Server 2010 to a plan I do not own or having edit rights on, I got the message 'file not found'.
Is this message related to what I am trying or does it have another cause?
Does someone know if what I want can be done?
    Rgds
    Sander

    Hi Sander,
I confirm that for creating a link between projects, you need to have access in read-write to both files.
Indeed creating such a link will write in both files information about successors (in the source file) and predecessors (in the destination file).
Note that if you only need to update the successor, you don't need anymore to open in read-write mode the source file, since you won't write any more information in it.
    Hope this helps.
