MPD won't play AAC files from Streamripper

I'm having some problems playing AAC files created by streamripper.  The files play just fine in Mplayer. This is the output I get in .mpd/log:
faad: error decoding AAC stream: Invalid number of channels
After googling I got the impression this might be a DRM issue.  I'm ripping a service I'm paying for (I only like about 80% of the music so I want to be able to skip tracks), so this seemed likely. On #mpd I was informed that mplayer wouldn't have played these files if they were DRM protected, so I've abandoned this line of investigation.
If I try to run one of these files through faad I get:
Error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
Is this fixable?

It seems you just need to rebuild your mdp package, because mpd supports AAC via ffmpeg but  new ffmpeg libs released yesteraday and you still have mpd built for old ffmpeg's libs.
Use ABS for this and if all will be ok then report bug.
I have the same problem from yesterday but with the moc  https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31743
Doesn't the log message indicate that MPD uses faad to decode AAC file and not ffmpeg? A new version of MPD came right out after your post; it did not solve my problem.  For now I'm manually converting the files from AAC to ogg in order to play them, using the latest version of ffmpeg.

  • My Nokia 5130 won't play *.aac files

I have a Nokia 5130 and I filled the microSD with 306 aac music files, then the phone says "Updating Library" and sends the message that 306 files has been added and updated in the music library, but then when I try to play one of those files it won´t play, and it keeps going from one file to the other as if I keep pressing Next every time. I tried resseting factory settings but it didn't work. Now I don't know if it doesn't work because all the files are .aac or if I have to convert them all to .mp3.
    Thank you for your help.
    Greetings.
    Uli.

I don’t know if you have tried this, but I use OSX on a Mac and when i add songs (in .MP3 format) my Nokia 5130 does the same thing you described by skipping the file to the next song, however it only does this until it’s reached the last ‘duplicate’ of the song. (if you have 300 odd songs, you may not have let it cycle through to the end of the song list)
When I add songs to the 5130 it seems to make a duplicate file of the song which is just a dud, but when I look at the song title on the phone the ‘duds’ all start with “._” for example “._Led Zepplin” but when I scroll down I eventually reach the real file simply called “Led Zepplin” then the phone will play the actual song correctly.
I don’t know where the duds come from but they don’t appear on my computer when adding files so I assume its done when the nokia updates its library. I just make playlists and add the ‘real’ song files and skip all the duds - so it’s a quick work around, but annoying. Maybe this is happening with your .aac files too.
PS. A quick test of this would be to go to the music menu - All songs - then push the up button which would take you to your last song alphabetically on your phone (so you don’t have to scroll through 300 dud songs) so might be quicker to scroll backwards to test.

  • Airtunes won't play Quicktime files from iTunes?

Last night I made a playlist that had MP3's, Quicktime files, AIFF files, and AAC files. I then set iTunes to play on Multiple speakers, so it would play on my computer speakers and my stero via Airtunes. All of the songs played fine through my computer speakers but the Airtunes refused to play the QT files. When a QT song came on, the stereo went silent, it would then play again when a non QT file came on. Anybody else have this problem?

Some information on Quicktime player. The last two links are you other applications you can download to see if they can play the movie:

  • My Macbook won't play movie files from my camera.

My girlfriend and I just recently bought a Macbook and love it. However, for some reason when we import movies from our camera to our Macbook, we can't get them to play, no matter what media program we use. The camera, which is a Sony CyberShot DSC-W30, saves the movie files to MPEG format. We cannot get the movie files to play in Quicktime, iTunes, and I even downloaded VLC media player (which I heard would play almost any format), and still no luck. However, the videos for some reason will play when we open them through iPhoto, but that's it. How do I solve this problem?

Thanks to all who responded to my problem. After toying around with it for a while, I ended up finding out my problem was very easy to solve, and I'm not sure why I didn't realize it sooner. I was importing the videos from my camera through iPhoto, and I suppose that somehow messed up the video file when I did that way. So I simply copied the videos directly from the camera, and pasted them to the hard drive, without the use of a third party accessory to import them, and they work just fine now. Thanks to all that helped.

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen won't play AIFF files from Logic Pro 9

Hi, so I've bounced a few tracks I was working on in Logic pro 9 as AIFF files, imported them into iTunes and then synced them down to both an iPod Touch 2nd gen and this iPod Nano 3rd Gen. The tracks play fine on the iPod Touch, but on the Nano, when I try to play a track, it shoes the "player" screen for a second, but it always bounces back to the track listing.
According to the iPod Nano 3rd gen spec sheet, it does support AIFF files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP14
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Also, I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.4, iTunes 9.2 and I reset the iPod nano just before starting this whole project.
I'd like to keep the tracks in AIFF if possible...

    Greetings WonderfulT1,
If you are having an issue with being unable to start your iPod nano when it is not connected to the computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps on this page -

  • AAC files from iTunes 7 won't play on third party player

I use my Sony Ericsson W900i as my main digital audio player, and since i have upgraded to iTunes 7 i have found that any file that i have imported or converted into the standard (128Kbps) AAC format (and then transferred) will not play on my W900i. However, my W900i has no problem playing AAC files encoded with any previous versions of iTunes.
Can anyone tell me the possible reasons for this (is it to do with gapless palyback?) and let me know if there is any way of solving this problem.
    Thanks
    Compaq Presario   Windows XP

Thanks, Kay. Here's what I found after trying your suggestions:
First, I was using CD-R, and I know that's important.
Second, I double checked and yes, I was burning to AudioCD.
Third, I tried new CD-R media, et voilla!, it worked (first media was Maxell CD-R Music CD, and what worked was Sony CD-R). But here's the catch. Before upgrading to iTunes 5, CDs I had burned using the Maxell CD-R Music CDs worked fine in the player (still do). Now they don't. What could possibly cause that behavior? I thought a CD-R was pretty much a CD-R, and further, that the software should work pretty much the same re: how it burns to different media, even after an upgrade. Guess I'm wrong on at least one account.
BTW, I don't want to blame iTunes 5 as I don't know for sure, but I have had lots of crashes and kernal panics since upgrading...

  • Front Row won't play .mp4 files

I just recently started using Front Row and, for some reason, it won't play .mp4 files. The said files are in my Movie folder and show up in Front Row's "Movies" menu, but when I try to play them it says "Selected video could not be played, format was not recognized."
    Please help!!

iTunes only supports MP4s encoded using the Main Profile, but many MP4s that you can download from the web are encoded using High Profile. These need to be converted.
You can use an app like VideoSpec or MediaInfo to list the encoding characteristics of your MP4s.

  • I updated my computer and now I can't play mov files from anywhere

I updated my computer and now I can't play mov files from anywhere - won't play in FCP 7, Quicktime. Not sure what updates they were specifically since i hit the "update All" button without going over each one. Please help!! operating on 10.6.8 with FCP7

Just take a look at the last few days posts here and you'll see many people with the same problem and some possible solutions.
But you should never do any software updates unless you have a bootable backup of your startup drive.  FCP7 is no longer being supported by apple and updating anything is fraught with dangers.

  • How to get Music Player to play AAC files and show...

I feel the need, the need to share my recent experiences with you! Firstly to restate the already known facts: The Nokia Audio Manager in PC Suite is incapable of reading any tags as far as I have seen, from a tag (AAC/MP3) or from a CD itself and it crashes on my pc after sending 2 albums to my phone or on initialising once the phone has 2 albums already on it - so I've binned that. iTunes creates .m4a files which are AAC files but in mp4 containers with mp4 tags. The N70 will play AAC files and read ID3 tags up to v2.3 Here's how to get musak on your N70 with tags and artwork. 1. get yourself copies of dbpoweramp 11.5, their AAC codec (the Release 5 one) and The Godfather and install them 2. Go into the dbpoweramp config, select the ID tag tab and change the tag to ID3V2 for AAC. check the version field is set to v2.3 3. Use Poweramp's CD Input to rip a CD (you can specify under options to use AAC (Advanced Audio Coding (CLI)), you can custom the folder/filenames and set the bitrate (I use 100 BVR which creates files about the same size as MP3) 3.5. Rename any file that has an apostrohpe in the filename - removing the apostrophe - as the Music player will not read the tag 4. Go onto Amazon.com, find your CD and save the artwork image to your PC (create a folder for artwork) 5. Run The Godfather, select the folder containing the ripped album, click on the 'TAG' button, tick the picture box and click the button to it's right and browse for the .jpg file you just downloaded. then click on Update which will bring up the edit dialog, check that the picture is visible at bottom right and is ticked and then click 'Update All', then 'Sync' and then 'Exit'. Finally, click on the 'Apply' button 6. Transfer the folder to your My Music folder on the MMC 7. Run the Music Player and select Options-Update Collection 8. Now go into Albums and you should see your album title. Click on it and you should see all tracks. Click on a track and you should see, in the playing window, the artist & track and the artwork too. It has taken me weeks to get this far but for me, it is worth it. I hope this system works for you too Regards, Brian.

It sounds like a dud program.   I would remove it (highlight its icon, then Options -> Remove).  If you don't see a remove option, look for the program in the Application Manager.

    Hello:
This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

  • Playing .wmv files from Blackberry

Is is possible to play wmv files from a tour?  I have a user requesting it and the file he is trying to get to work.

    Hi!
See this KB for supported media formats:
KB05482 Media types supported on the BlackBerry smartphone
If the file still won't play, then you can use Media Manager to move it to the BB and that should perform a transcode to a format that will play.
Good luck and let us know!

  • I get audio but no video unless I play the file from UTube

I get audio but no video unless I play the file from UTube

    Use a different browser?
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
Even if it's just to redownload the driver. I recommend another browser.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.
