MQC QoS - C3650 - DSCP Trust

Hi,
We are migrating from 3750's to 3650's and I need to move the QoS over. In my policy map I would normally trust DSCP, but on the 3650's, there doesnt seem to be a trust DSCP command. Below is my policy map config:

Does anyone have any ideas on what has replaced the trust DSCP command in the policy map or is there a different way of doing it now?

In IOS XE (3650/3850) no trust dscp option on policy map config.

    Open the set up page of the router by typing the IP address of 192.168.1.1 or open Cisco connection go to router settings
    Then go to advanced settings and  then click copy password and hit OK ..once you on the router page
    Go to wireless and click manual after that create network name (SSID) Then set the wireless security as WPA2 personal
    Which would give you stabilize connectivity then upgrade the latest firmware on  the router and reduced the MTU to 1462..
    Unplug the power from  the modem and  the router
    Wait for 1 minute and plug them back wait for 1 minute and then check the speed .

    is it possible to trust DSCP and COS at the same time?
    If so, which one wins?

    It does not really make sense to trust both DSCP and CoS at the same time. You configure your switch to trust one or none of these.
    As an example, if you did have the capability to trust both DSCP and CoS, imagine what would happen if you received a frame with DSCP EF and CoS 0 ? You would be faced with a conflicting situation ... if you trusted CoS, you would give a potentially high-priority packet lesser service. Whereas if you trusted DSCP, you could end up giving a potentially low-priority packet voice-like service... So the option of trusting both is not allowed.

  • Nexus 5020/2248: Best Practice for DSCP-trust, verses DSCP-don't trust

    We have several Nexus 5020/2248's for our server access to the network (approximately 1000 ports). On about 20 of these ports we want to trust the DSCP markings, since they are from out Cisco Unified Comm appliances (these are access ports). However, on all other ports  (mostly access, so DSCP, but ~ 100 trunks so some are COS also) we want to "not trust" or essentially zero out any non-zero DSCP value.
    Does anyone have suggestions on easiest/best method for setting  the trust boundaries for Nexus 5020/2248s?

    Before any other think  I would like you to upgrade your WLC image to 7.6.130.0 & FUS to 1.9.0.0. FUS upgrade will require 30-40min downtime to your wireless.

    It tells me to disable 802.11a and 802.11b. If I go into each radio on 'Network' tab and disable these - NOTHING can connect to any SSID. So unless I've misunderstood something - this is a contradiction in the best-practice link I posted above,
    This simply says, you have to disable radio band before changing QoS profile values. Once you change those value you can re-enable the radio band. :)
    If I enable FT-PSK and PSK - for devices that support FT-PSK (which i'm under the impression is 802.11r) will these devices use that and for devices that don't they'll use 'regular' PSK? How do I know if my client is connecting using PSK or FT-PSK as both are enabled on the same WLAN.
    Read these 802.11r post & you will understand how 802.11r works. There are certain client devices does not like PSK & FT-PSK capability advertise on the same SSID & may have connectivity issues. But most of the clients like iPhone, iPads,etc  will connect without any problems.

  • Question about 3750 mls qos map dscp-output-q and cos-output-q

    1. If a egress packet has both Cos and Dscp setting, which map should this packet used to put into queue?
    2. The 3750 is doing ip route. After the packet is routed, will the packet keep the DSCP and COS? Or it will just keep the DSCP and using the dscp-cos map to create a new COS.

    Apologies for the confusion with the terminalogy.
    The question is where you have configured the trust boundaries, do you necessarily trust the DSCP value prior to being routed across your network?
    Therefore, although you have explicity trusted the DSCP value, do you still trust the value at the remote peer.
    For example, you connect into an MPLS with QoS enabled, you know that the values you are trusting are correct within your network, however at the remote peer/branch they could be remarked by the provider. Therefore do you 'believe' the values, or do you simply not trust them and then reclassify on ingress.

    I wanted to ask the forum one question why DSCP AF-41 marking is used for Video. I know Cisco designed and recommedded it in that way, but is there any other technical reason behind it?

    Hi Sugata,
    Firstly as you may know already, traffic marking are done to classify traffic into different classes according to the priority so that they are meted with a different behaviour. It ensures smaller and critical traffic does not get stuck behind bulkier traffic which may not need priority.
    Among the real time traffic, audio is the most critical. The Cisco recommended markings are according to the priority of the traffic type. Voice has a higher priority than video. Video is further separated into two categories - Interactive (Video conferencing etc.) and Streaming (playing a unicast or multicast video). The order of priority and reason for that is below:
    1) Audio - Voice traffic is very sensitive to packet loss, latency. It requires no packet loss and latency of about 150 ms.
    2) Interactive Video - Sensitive but can tolerate packet loss of about 1% and latency almost same as voice
    3) Streaming Video - Less sensitive - can tolerate about 4-5% packet loss and latency of about 4-5 seconds
    So it’s a general guideline\standard from Cisco to mark voice with a dscp 46 or ef, Interactive video 34 or af41, Streaming video as dscp 32 or cs4. Since this is Cisco recommended best practise, Cisco's most UC apps by default mark the traffic like this.
    You can change it but strongly not advised unless you have a very good reason. Another reason not to change is some of the auto templates etc. you can normally use at access level catalyst switches use these markings, which otherwise you will have to manually change the mappings etc.

  • Why does mls qos trust dscp dissapear after reboot?

    The command takes but after reboot, Invlaid inputs detected show up and "mls qos tust dscp" is gone from every interface.
    Happens on both 2960-24PC-S / 2960-48PST-S switches.

    If i don't include the global 'mls qos' command then the voice packets keep the dscp 46 value.  If I add the mls qos command this causes the switch to set the dscp values to zero.

  • QoS Problem ( nt getting same DSCP marking at diff.. vpls customer sites

    Hi we are having 3 locations A , B & C
    we are providing l2 vpls service to customer .
    customer is connected to our mpls cloud via EoSDH on my mpls switch on locations A , B & C.
    customer is marking his traffic with DSCP bit XX from Location A when customer checking the traffic
    at location B via packet sniffer ethereal they are not getting the same DSCP Tagging .
    can anyone help me to find out the possible cause of this .
    As far as i know in VPLS services there is limitation of provide multi-QoS.
    But here in this case i m only trusting DSCP on the Lastmile port as well as on the trunks connected from my switches to my PEs .
    so customer tagging should reach from location A to Location B .

  • MPLS QoS - SUP720BXL GE Port not supporting Strict Priority & Priority %

    Hi Sir,
    My customer have few C7609s with SUP720 3BXL and running IOS image s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF6.bin within the MPLS network.
    What I experienced is that I can't configured the built-in GE port of the SUP720 for Strict Priority & Priority Percent QoS.
    Is there anyone outside there know what is the equivalent or alternative to above mentioned two QoS features ? This is mainly to priortize the voice traffic.

    The below has been recommended for a customer using 7600 in the
    Core with GiGs as normal core facing links.
    The implementation goes as below:
    i) Enabling the MLS on the 7600 chassis.
    mls qos
    ii) Configuring Trust Boundary on all Interfaces.

    <--By default the Trust Command trusts the incoming DSCP/TOS.
    When the ports are configured with the Trust Boundary as given above,
    all incoming packets are mapped into Initial Internal DSCP values.
    These values are used purely as a reference MAP for Internal QOS
    processing on the 7600.

    and the same gets mapped to the Output COS, these values need to
    be directed to the appropriate Queues for the desired QOS behavior
    on the MPLS EXP packets.

    can be controlled using MLS, the difference between SUP and Module based
    LAN ports is withing the Scheduling alogirthms supported, the Egress and Ingress
    buffers, and the number of queues and drop thresholds available.

  • Set default dscp on ingress, while doing policer markdown

    I'm using C3850, and want to set dscp AF21 for the first 100 mbps of input traffic on a L3 port ("no switchport"), and set AF11 for the remainder (any traffic >100mbps).  I am not trusting DSCP of ingress packets, but generally they are dscp 0.
    I see that I can use a 2-color policer, with "conform action transmit" and "exceed action set dscp table my-markdown".  Within that table, it looks like I can rewrite all matching traffic (>100mbps) to AF11 ("default 10", or "from 0 to 10"). 
    But I'm not sure how to set DSCP for the "conforming" traffic.

    can "set qos-group" be used for this?

  • Making sure Qos is working?

    This question has probably been asked a million times but I cannot find a solid answer. We had our routers setup by an external company and I'm not sure if they completely finished the Qos settings on the routers. How do I check?
    I am new to QoS so bear with me.

  • "vlan dot1q tag native" end-to-end QoS switched network

    Guys,
    Can I use this in my switched network design, (without using 802.1q tunneling as documentation always seems to mention this vlan in a vlan scenario???)
    I have native vlans and I want to act upon the 802.1p CoS field from end-to-end in my switched network. If the packet happens to be in a native vlan, I cannot do this.
    ie
    pc------accessswitch--------distswitch/rtr
    between access and distribution, there is a dot1q trunk, and the native vlan is the vlan what the pc is in
    Choices.
    run this comand vlan dot1q tag native
    dont have a native vlan, ie have vlan 1 (default as native) on the dot1q up to the dist
    or act only upon L3 dscp
    Can anyone help?

    Many thx for that. This I understand and the question was really, if I wanted to use a dot1p tag in the dot1q header, but the vlan that the PC was on was the same vlan as the native vlan on the dot1q trunk, what is the best option to ensure I can action qos.
    Just trust dscp on the trunks always
    tag the native,
    or just dont run a native vlan
    I hope this makes sense. Sorry if I was a little confusing b4.

  • DSCP to CoS mapping: Avaya traffic

    It appears that Avaya marks its voice traffic as follows:
    L2 signaling cos 6 L3 signaling dscp 34
    L2 audio cod 6 L3 audio dscp 46
    Has anyone interacted with theses settings and what are the right mappings for 6500 series Modules?
    I am about to use the following:
    #mls qos map dscp-cos 34 46 to 6
    #mls qos map dscp-cos 48 to 5 "move IP control to cos 5)
    #mls qos map cos-dscp 0 8 16 24 32 46 48 56 leave cos to dscp unchanged.
    Finally use: #mls qos thrust dscp on input interfaces.
    Can anyone clarify?

    The 6608 and 6624 internal port is treated as trust-cos to the Catalyst 6000. So the default COS-to-DSCP mapping of the cards will determine the DSCP values with which the IP packets are marked unless they are changed in the switch.
    The 6608 and 6624 will tag packets as follows:
    COS = 5 for rtp traffic
    COS = 3 for signalling traffic
    By default on the Catalyst 6000, these COS values map in IP packets to DSCP 24 (COS = 3) and 40 (COS = 5) as shown in the table below.
    Generally, the recommended DSCP values to use in a VoIP network differ slightly. They are:
    DSCP = 46 for rtp traffic (Recommended Expedited Forwarding (EF) value)
    COS = 26 for signalling traffic (AF31)
    It may be necessary to change the default COS-DSCP mapping on the Catalyst 6000 so that the DSCP markings in packets generated by the 6608 and 6624 cards conform to the network policy. For example, if other devices in the network are marking packets with the recommended values.
    Information on how to change the default COS-DSCP mapping is provided in the Mapping Received CoS Values to Internal DSCP Values section of Catalyst 6000 Family Software Configuration Guide.
