MS 7246 (975x PUE) = Motherboard of many woes , help if you can.... (pics)

My setup
MSI MS - 7246 v 2.1 (975x PUE)  bios 7.0 / 7.1/7.2/7.4
E6600 2.4ghz w/ 4mb cache
2x 1GB Corsair CM2 6400 (ddrII 800)
Silencer 610w powersupply
2x 74gb raptors Raid=0
I'll try to be as informative and brief as possible.
My journey started with a lot (not enough as it turns out) research for a nice board for the core 2 e6600. Finally choosing this motherboard after reading through the review on tomshardware.com . I'm not new to computer building, but who knows, maybe I've missed something.
I've come to find , the bios are quite horrible to say the least, with each "revision" i loose more options and less things work.
This motherboard will not clock my e6600 correctly.  In system properties / CPUZ it is displayed as a 1.2ghz proccessor.
The bios also confirms this on boot up, Displaying 297mhz (33x9) along with the incorrect DDR2 533 speed.
Here are the settings in the bios (ver 7.0, the only version that seems to work with the RAID)
CPU FSB Frequency = 266mhz
FSB @ memory clock ratio = Auto (i believe thats 1:2 according to cpuz)
It feels like im missing a multiplier somewhere in the setup. Everything is half speed.
I've tried to update the bios to the one's ive listed , but with any other bios revision my FSB ratio option gets locked, and my raid doesnt work.
I've sent the motherboard in on RMA and its been returned, It came with the 7.4 bios flashed on to it  which means my raid wouldnt work (and still would not detect the processor correctly).
I've included some pictures of the bios settings and what its displaying, just to prove im not out of my mind!
Any help would be great!

It seems pretty evident to me that you have a bad board. I've tried all offcial bios (and many betas) and NEVER my processor (the same as yours) was incorrectly detected.
I doubt that dissabling SpeedStep and C1E will help in any way, and if it does, that should be a sign of a faulty board, because I'm running at 3 Ghz (333 x 9) with SpeedStep and C1E enabled and all voltages auto without any problem.

  • Is there a Limit in how many or combined size you can queue before sending?

For many years my application has queued emails with a pdf attached and the SendTo completed. We use OLE to do this. But now a number of users have complained that if the queue is around the 40-50 generated, only 23-25 will open ready to send. They
are queued so the user can insert pertinent information into the body of each email and send. I can count the emails being generated and verify the count as being say 45 but when opened to send there will only be around 23-25 available. Does Outlook 2010 have
a limit on the total size al all emails ready to send? eg 20mb or something? Each of the pdf's generated will be in the range of 120k to 800k in size depending on contents.

I don't aware of such an limitation on Outlook side.
The only limits that I know is that your mail service provider might restrict the number of messages sent per hour/day and the number of recipients per message.

  • Hi, my iPhone 3GS has many problems. Please help if you can!

Havent had my phone for even a full year yet, been nothing but problems. My iPhone will not ring or notify me when people call yet i get the missed calls on my phone after they call 10 times (which they are normally very frustrated by then). It is hard to hear me sometimes when I talk to others using this phone. I will all of a sudden cut out when they could hear me perfectly clear. Also I will be texting a message and I will type a whole message but it wont show up on the screen and after 2 minutes when it finally does its only part of the message. My camera only opens up some of the time. My switch just doesnt work. When you switch it to silent it wont work unless you hold your finger on the switch. My home button doesnt always work. I will be using an app and all of a sudden my phone will freeze and restart itself. I will lock my phone but it will not actually lock until 2 minutes after i press the button. Sometimes my screen gets stuck in a landscape position even my home screen and lock screen, kinda weird. Oh and i have had the problem recently where I will plug my charger in and it will charge on and off. It will charge and then after a few minutes it will say this charger is not supported and it will go back and forth. So i got a new charger and tried it to see if the problem was the charger and it still did the same thing. There are more little problems but these are the major ones. I know there is a lot but any help or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated! Thank you   Oh my phone has also spent most of its time in an otter box so not much damage to my phone. Thanks again!!

Since you are still under Warranty, make appointment with Apple Genius and take iPhone to Apple for resolution of those problems.

Sure, but you'll have to pay for an out of warranty replacement, that is if Apple even permits you to do that...they may not if the phone works fine. Cost is US $229.

  • Is there a limit to how many USB/Fire devices you can connect?

I don't like the idea of having limited USB/Firewire inputs as I plan on having a ...
1). USB audio interface for Logic Express
2). USB connector for both an HD camcorder and a Nikon camera (although I most likely will switch between the two)
    3). digitizing tablet
4). at least two external Firewire backup drives
    5). scanner
6). printer (although that's connected to my Base Station)
Will I "overload" or cause problem with my computer?
    Thanks!

  • 975X PUE SATA RAID Windows XP Blue Screen Install

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new MSI 975X PUE motherboard and am trying to install Windows on it.
I have connected 2x WD Raptor 36GB drives, and set them up in a RAID 0 array using the Ctrl+I RAID BIOS utility. I have set the SATA config in the BIOS to RAID mode, and turned off the other SATA controller... The RAID BIOS detects the array ok after it has been set up, and shows it as OK.
When I boot from a Windows XP SP2 CD I press F6 and choose the RAID Driver for ICH7R RAID. Windows tells me that it already has a driver but this version is newer, so I say to use the one on the floppy (I have tried without doing this and Windows does not detect any Hard Drives at all).
Once I have loaded the drivers it continues loading the other drivers for the setup, and then gets to "Loading Windows Setup", here is waits for a minute or so and the blue screens.... The stop code is 0x7B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)...
I have upgraded the BIOS from 7.0 to 7.1 (not 7.2 yet as I have read about problems with it).
I've tried various versions of the drivers from different locations, and each time it blue screens in exactly the same place... I'm beginning to get very annoyed with this as I shouldn't be expected to find my own drivers when there are ones supplied on the CD...
Is anyone able to suggest what I could do?
    Thanks
[EDIT] Also I have tried an install of Windows Vista Beta and that installed fine using the drivers from the CD...

I must say again that the problem is located in the memory modules. As suggested by Hans before, try running memtest86 first,
    http://filexoom.com/files/2006/11/1/41824/memtest86%2B-1.65.floppy.zip
and sometimes even if tests runs fine, doesn't mean that memory is OK. It just might be that that type of memory doesn't fit within your MB. As I mention before, my friend was using Corsair for his MB(getting the message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE), and after replacing with A-Data(definitely lower quality memory), everything went fine. So, try with another memory.
As for Murphyman, when you use the yellow connector, you are using the Jmicron controller, witch asks for RAID drivers before you use the device installed on it. The blue IDE controller is controlled by Intel's ICH7DH, and no RAID driver is need. So, try connecting the DVD drive on the blue connector, and see if will work.

  • Speedfan Configuration for 975X PUE !

Does anyone please have a link to where I can download the Speedfan configuration for the 975X PUE ?
    Thankyou

    Hello Jack The Newbie,
Each motherboard has to be configured differently within the Speedfan settings in order for the software to give correct readings.
The Speedfan website provides configuration settings for hundreds of different motherboards from all manufacturers but not the MSI 975X. I have no idea how to configure Speedfan myself and so was hoping to be able to download the settings from somewhere !
    Thankyou for the post

  • MS 7246 - 975X Power Up Edition (Problems)

Hi! I am from Argentina and 7 months ago I been purchase a MS 7246 board. Since that time, I never could run my memories a 800MHZ and I never could make that my motherboard detect correctly my memories speed. I been really disappointed with msi and this motherboard, and sincerely I lost confidence in the support and manufacturing process; nevertheless, I will try posting my problem in this thread hoping that somebody could help me.
    Details about my hardware
    -   MSI 975x power up edition (BIOS 7.6)
    -   Intel core 2 6300
    -   2GB RAM DDR2 800MHZ Dual channel (OCZ2P8001G) 4-5-4-15
    -   Sapphire x850XT PCI-E
My mother detects my memories as 667Mhz. System do not boot If I set manually my memories at 800Mhz using this configurations:
    -   CPU Clock X7
    -   FSB/Speed (266*7 = 1862Mhz @ Default speed)
    -   FSB & Memory ratio = 1.5 (Using “auto” here system detect memories speed @ 667Mhz)
    -   Memories speed (266*1.5*2=798 Mhz)
    -   Memories voltage 2.1v/2.2v
    -   CPU Voltage 1.25v/1.3v
    -   Other parameters are as default.
    Things that I been tried
    -   I been tried setting by SPD or manually memories latencies at 4-5-4-15 but mother does not boot or simply hang.
    -   I been tried unsuccessfully increasing voltage to CPU or memories.
    -   I been tried unsuccessfully updating my bios but again nothing.
I been read in internet that a loot! of people have similar problems. Some people fix those problems updating bios, but other people could not found a solution. Somebody could help me?
    Thank you very much!
    Eduardo

I had a look at your screenshots.  The first thing I noticed is that you RAM modules have really strange SPD values:
Your stick's SPD values do not seem to comply with the JEDEC standard. Maybe this is an additional explanation to your problems causing BIOS and/or memory controller to be a little confused.
The second thing I noticed is the fact that the automatic frequency/multiplier and Core voltage adjustions done by the C1E feature is now working properly:
As you can see on the pictures I took from your screenshots, VCore and multiplier are now changing.  That means, that the feature is working properly.  If you close all background applications and running programs and leave only CPU-Z running, Core Voltage should drop to a certain minimum level and stay there with the multiplier set to x6.
The fact that C1E is working now, could explain the small drop in temperatures to about 48°-50°C @CPU cores.

    Comments:
    - Maybe cpu sensor is broken or bad? (I touch cpu cooler and is not so hot)
    I really doubt that.
    Quote
    - The northbridge 975x definitely is hot. (But i suppose that your should have same situation here)
Yes, it has a tendency to get rather hot, especially if the system is overclocked.
    Quote
    - If I do not use my computer from 5 or 10 minutes temperatures decrease at 50ºc (core 0) and 48ºc (core 1), but not much more.
This is the kind of drop I expected with C1E working properly again.
    Quote
¿Do you see something strange in my temperatures
Your temperaturer are elevated and a little higher than average, but not really dangerous after all.  You should not worry yourself too much.  The shutdown temperature of your CPU is around 85°C.  So you still have some headroom.
However, if you find the time (and the money  ) you should at least consider optimizing your cooling solution, either by re-installing the heatsink and applying new and better thermal paste and by tweaking the airflow that goes through your case, or even better by installing a more efficient heatsink to your CPU.
    Quote
¿Do you see something strange in my temperatures and memories?
The issues you are experiencing with your memory are definately strange.  As I said before, I believe the reason is a rather simple incompatibility issue.  If this is caused by non-JEDEC SPD values or because your modules are of an older revision that use Elpida or Powerchip chips I don't know, but I am glad you were able to find a workaround.
    /UPDATE
I googled around a little bit to find more information on general issures with the particular kind of OCZ modules you are using (OCZ2P8001G).  What I found was the following thread in the OCZ forum:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=112411
If you find the time read a little bit around in it.  The fact that this thread exists asking for user reports on success/problem stories with this memory, if a clear indication that it is not an issue that has to do with your particular mainboard alone. In case you find 10 spare minutes to read around in it, pay attention to what is said about the revision and the chips used on the sticks.  Here are a few quotes from the thread. There are of course other voices as well, pointing to the chipset or the board in use.  But there seem to be quite a few different boards by all brands involved.  However, I dare to say that overall picture doesn't look to well for the modules:
    Quote
Yea but if you RMA them you just get the same model back. I don't think it would solve anything  (Unless they are giving out Rev2s?)
    Quote
Well i've had nothing but problems with the 2 sets i've had. No one at OCZ informed me that i needed the rev2's to work how i want.
    Quote
I'm pretty sure that OCZ gets the same Elpida chips from Samsung that other DIMM makers get. The only things specific to OCZ would be the PCB, SPD programming and speed binning.
    Quote
That is what prompted Tony to suggest an RMA. That is how I know it is the ram having problems not the board.
    Quote
If the ram won't do specified speeds, no matter what divider used, then off course something is wrong, but getting 4 sticks that stops at the exact same speeds is close to impossible. Send either myself or Ryder an email and we will sort you out. I will make sure you get an advanced shipment sent out today if you want.
    Quote
All I really know about Rev. 1 ELP is that an OCZ rep told me it used the same Elpida chips as Gold but was higher binned. Rev. 2 uses different chips.
    Quote
I don't know but IIRC, I read someone here post that they are using Micron D9xxx. Given the higher cost of rev. 2, that seems plausible enough.
    Quote
If you are using Rev1, you are the first I've heard without problems.
    Quote
I think the problem is rather isolated to only a group of people with bad sticks.

  • MSI 975X PUE Power Connector !

I've just noticed that the 975X has a 24 pin ATX connector. My Antec Truepower 480W PSU only has a 20 pin connector.
Is this an adaptor available or will I have to dig deep and buy a new PSU ?
If a new PSU, then any recommendations !
    Thankyou

    Quote
The Antec article is very interesting and basically seems to say that it is OK to use a 20 pin ATX supply on a motherboard with 24 pin ATX connector. This is contrary to the link in a previous post !
Not really.  Here is a passage from the arcticle the other link did point you to:
    Quote
The 24 pin connector is actually just the 20 pin connector with 4 extra pins added on the end. The original 20 pins were unchanged. The extra 4 pins are not separate rails. They're just extra lines to provide more current to the same rails. On every motherboard I've seen, the extra lines for ground, 3.3, 5, and 12 are just connected to the other lines on the same rail from the 20 pin connector. I've never heard of exceptions and it doesn't make sense for motherboard makers to create any. As a result, you can plug a 20 pin cable into a 24 pin motherboard and it will work just fine. At least, it will for a while. They added those extra 4 pins for a reason. When you plug a 20 pin cable into a 24 pin connector you're not providing the extra current carrying capacity which may be needed by the motherboard. If your motherboard's current requirements are low enough then it will work properly with only a 20 pin power cabled plugged in. But if the motherboard draws enough current, then you can overheat the 20 pins you're using on the 24 pin connector.
    Quote
I assume that the 4 pin connector next to the first PCI-E graphics slot on the 975X PUE board takes the same connector/supply as the one that supplies power to the IDE [...] drives !
Yes, it is the same connector you usually use for IDE drives:
Floppy drives usually use this kind of connector:

    Jack the Newbie,
I've seen the spec. The OCZ I recommended will run his pouter.
It probably will. But I am a little afraid that the 450W-PSU you recommended might come close to its limits on the 26A/+12V-rail.

  • One year later, I still have problems with the 975X PUE

A year ago, I bought the 975X PUE board and turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made when purchasing something computer-related.
To start with, the board didn't recognize the OCZ memory that I had bought, so I had to change it for some gSkill memory.  That, however, involved a trip to Argentina since at the time it was very hard to get DDR2 memory @ 800 Mhz here in Uruguay.  I had also complained about how the temperature monitor was unreliable and problems booting the computer.
I still have those problems, but I learned to live with it since no major problems arised.  Sure, I'd have to boot three to six times just to get it running, but hey, no big deal.
Later, I decided to go for RAID1 and surprisingly, it worked so I had no new complaints.
However, lately something new has been happening.  The computer seems to reboot randomly and without warning.  This had happened before when lightning struck nearby (I blamed it on electro magnetic something) but now it happens all the time and I can't find a solution.  I leave the computer on during the night and in the mornings, I come to find that it has rebooted when I was sleeping.
    Here's what I have:
    MSI 975X PUE (7.1083006)
    INTEL E6600
    GSKILL 4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM
    WD 320 GB 7200 RPM
    2x WD 500 GB 7200 RPM (RAID1)
    NVIDIA 8800 GTS
    Windows Vista 32 bit
    PSU Biswal 780W 30A +12V
I've looked over the latest firmware thread that used to be a sticky on here and noticed that everything else seems to be beta.  MSI never released something better for this board?  Here's that thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99818.0
The only thing that I could think of for these random reboots is that maybe the unreliable temperature sensors fool the computer and make it seem like the CPU is a lot hotter than it actually is.  I've fired up Everest and right now, with only Firefox and a couple of IM clients running, CPUs are at 50 and 54 degrees celcius.  Taking into account that the case is open and I'm in an air conditioned room set to 24 degrees celcius and that there's a mini Typhoon on top of the E6600 as well as a couple of fans in the case, these CPU temperatures are nearly impossible.
What's going on with this?  Can anyone help me out?

Quote from: daiver on 04-January-08, 21:59:50
Ok, lets say my PSU is degraded. That solves my spontaneous rebooting issue.  How about everything else?
I still have to boot my PC 3-6 times to get it to start.  Temperature monitor still sucks as well.
Is 7.1 the latest official firmware for this high-priced mobo?
Daiver the biswall brand is a very cheap one, I think you should buy a trusted PSU. In Argentina you can find many brands, like Topower and Power Cooler, that are good PSUs and at a fair price.
The latest bios for this mother is 7.7, but some users find it not so good as 7.6. I use 7.6 and works perfect.

  • 975X PUE: SATA vs IDE Combinations: 2+2, 4, or 1+3?

    Hello,
I searched but didn't find info.  For a new build with a 975X PUE, what is the optimal configuration of IDE/SATA drives.  I want to have a configuation like:
    DRIVE                 PURPOSE                    SATA or IDE?
    C:                     VISTA OS                            ?
    D:                     Data drive                   2 SATA, RAID1
    E:                     Backup for Data                    ?
My question is:   Should I use SATA for drives C and E or IDE?   Or one of each?   Is there a general rule for which is preferred?   All things being equal, I prefer SATA since cables are smaller.
    Thx.
    Scott
    PS   C and E will likely be single-drive, non-RAID.

    Quote from: jsmartin22 on 16-June-07, 14:51:31
I thought perhaps there would be a difference data rates between the IDE/SATA, which arise only when you reach a specific # of SATA drives--in which case it might be better to begin using IDE.  Looks like I was wrong.  Thx.
    Scott
SATA II 300 has 3.0 Gbit/sec available per port, so the number of SATA ports used should not make a difference. There is a theoretical advantage in using SATA, as it is a serial connection instead of a parallel connection with PATA.
Furthermore, because of your RAID 1 setup, you will be using AHCI mode for the onboard Intel controller. The Intel Matrix Storage driver (used for AHCI mode) might give you a couple percents extra drive performance over an IDE interface, even when using single drives.
So SATA would be the way to go...

  • MSI 975X PUE + MSI StarHub 7-port USB 2.0 + Windows XP SP3 = Fail

    Hi,
today I bought a MSI StarHub and connected it to my computer with MSI 975X PUE and Win XP SP3. But XP does not recognize the hub. On the same computer I have Win 7 installed. There the hub works very well. Any hints to get the hub working on XP? I have same problems with my mouse, logitech G500. It works on WIN 7 and does not work on XP. What can I do?
    Regards

There was no driver for the StarHub included and I did not find a driver to download on the msi homepage. When running Win7 the hub is shown as Generic USB Device in the device manager on xp it is a USB 2.0 HUB [mtt] and I do not have the driver for this.
I installed the logitech G500 driver on both, win xp and win 7, but xp does not recognize it.

  • SATA to SATA transfer speed for 975x PUE

hi guys, i'm using this 975x PUE currently and having this problem. when i tried to copy large data files from a SATA HDD to another SATA HDD it always takes very long time to complete. ofcoz both HDDs are internal and no RAIDS card installed.
eg : copy files about 160GB size take more than 12hrs..
i think it shouldnt take such a long time to copy such huge file. this dont happen to me in my previous pc. can anyone advise pls?

thanks hoshigami, to be honest your pc spec is as good as anyone else but i hope you have sata2 hdd and not sata1 as they are much faster than sata1 when it comes to transferring of data. also i  assume your ddr2 is ddr2 800.
when i cloned about 30gb from one hdd to another hdd it took about 25 minutes therefore 160 should not take more than 2 hours in fact much less as cloning is slower process than just copying..
as far as bios is concerned there is no parameter in which it can speed up transfer of data but what you can do is go into bios then click on default setting then click yes and save and exit. and also before copying you defrag your hdd a few times or use speeditup [link below] for further defraging.
    http://www.geardownload.com/system/speeditup-free-highly-recommended.html
also do you have  FAT32 or NTFS file management., also your hdd 7200 RpM or 5400 RPM.
i think your prob  lies with the fact you try to copy 160gb in one go by doing that large chunk of data is scattered on your hdd without being defraged.
i would first copy about 20 to 30gb then defrag hdd a few times then copy further 30gb and defrag....and so on..
to be honest i can not think of anything else . lets see what others have to say. good luck

  • 975x PUE random reboots during games

    Here is my setup:

    2GB Gskill 800mhz DDR2
    X1900XTX  (PCI-e)
    300GB HDD
    Xfi Fatality
    Windows XP And Vista
My system seems to reboot randomly when playing games.  No warning, No errors, just straight reboot.  It could be 5 mins into the game or 45mins into the game.  I have tried formatting and reinstalling windows XP Pro, I also tried installing Windows Vista Ultimate,  I made sure the voltage in the BIOS is setup correctly for the memory, I run memtest86 for almost 24 hours with no errors, I run Windows MemTest for about 20 hours with no errors, I run PRIME2004 for about 9 hours with no errors, I tried different RAM, I bought a new hard drive, I replaced the Power supply with a brand new Antec 650 watt.  I updated the BIOS.  There are games which I have played for a few hours with no reboot, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, Quake 3, Counter Strike Source.  Games that reboot the system all the time are Command and Conquer 3, World of warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online Beta, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and Neverwinter nights 2.   I have also tried installing Ubuntu, and the install goes fine, but I cannot install the video drivers, and I get a PCI error every time I boot up, the error is too quick for me to take a note of.

That would lead me to believe the MB is defective then, not the RAM. If the MB is fussy about RAM why would the onus be on the RAM manufacturer to replace the RAM until something works instead of the MB manufacturer, who is the source of the problem, to properly design their MB?
FYI I'm also having issues with my 975x PUE where it won't boot with neither my very high quality OCZ RAM nor with just basic Crucial RAM. They've RMA'd my first board and the new one fixed my original problem (wouldn't even initialize POST) only to give me different problems. MSI royally screwed-up with that board and I hope they find a solution quick because I'm not very enthusiastic about being beta tester for hardware I pay hundreds of dollars for.
