MS Excel "Database Daemon" Running at Startup

Looking for some help.
I recently ran MS Excel for the first time on my Mac Mini Intel Core Duo. Since that time, each time I start up my mac the "Database Daemon" seems to be running in the background. I check the activity manager and it appears everytime.
Does anybody have any idea (1) what that is to being with and (2) how I can spot that from automatically running up boot?

I had the same problem on a Mac Mini, the mini would not go to sleep and after hours with Apple tech support we discovered this program was in my account login items. Deleted it from the login items and everything was find. I had no problem with Excel, the Database Daemon will start when you run Excel.
I am not a expert at this however it worked on my Mac Mini and now on my iMac. Try apple support and see if they can give you some advice.
One note, it is not in my login items now and I just ran Excel before replying and the Database Daemon show up in my activity monitor. When I shut down Excel the Daemon stopped running.
Again look for other advice before using anyone source for information.

but it is now asking my to close all open applications:
    Microsoft Database Daemon
    SyncServicesAgent
I cannot find a way to close either one of these applications as they do not appear in any place for me to do so.
To close them open Activity Monitor, select All Processes, find them in the list of processes and quit them.

If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.
    Parallels has a forum here:

I think you'll get a faster response there.

  • MS Database Daemon-Older Version Prevents MS Office from Launching

I just updated my MS Office, and i get an error message that it cannot be launched since an "older version of MS Database Daemon is still running". It instructs me to delete the older version from "startup items."
How do I go to Startup Items and delete the older daemon so the new one can launch?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)
All your documents will be fine.

  • When i d.load system update - the installation stops b/c of 2 programs:MS Database Daemon

Hi.  Everytime i try to install an update - the installation template says that 2 programs still running:  Microsoft Database Daemon.app & SyncServicesAgent.app  and i cant find how to close these 2 applications...  Thxs!

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance. You can skip this step if you don't care about the data that hasn't been backed up.
Reinstall the OS.* Your data should be unaffected unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Need help writing a script to delete a folder to run at startup

I have no experience with this and need full assistance to set this up.
I am hoping to write a script which can be run at startup on a single client machine which is giving me font trouble. Our client machines are network controlled by our server and have multiple users all in the Server user database.
The fonts are behaving badly until we trash this folder HD>Library>Caches>com.apple.ATS
On restart the fonts behave as expected.
Can someone help me write a script or give me a command I can insert in a crontab with Cronnix to delete this folder at startup?
    Thanks

They both work fine (read that as: it can be added into either place) While that message in crontab seems to intimate that Apple will do something drastic like disable or make it hard to run cron I cannot see how, cron has been in all *nix's since the beginning so to remove it would anger quite a few people...
Having said that, If you want to make a launchd item you would put the below into /Library/LaunchDaemons/ create a file (call it someting memorable like 'Delete_com.apple.ATS') put this into it:
    Code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

    </array>
    <key>RunAtLoad</key>

    and finally load it...

  • Configuring EM Database Control when database is running on different IP

    OS Solaris
    DB Oracle 10.2.0.2
    The have the following situation:
We have a veritas active/passive cluster. This is not RAC. Server name is abc. But the database is running on VIP xyz. How do I configure database control to run on vip xyz. whenever I run emca -config dbconsole db, it always sees the server name as abc.
I also tried emca -config dbconsole db -HOST xyz but finally it always shows the hostname as abc.
I was able to get EM to see the targets (database, listener) properly on the vip xyz by manually editing the targets.xml file. So now the situation is, on the home page it shows that the datbaase is up and the listener is up, but it complains that it cannot connect to the database.
I really appreciate any help in this.
    -Nags

DBConsole installs requiring different hostnames (virtual) than the physical hostname, simply set ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable to the new virtual hostname and run emca.
in detail please read this note , it might help you
Configure DB Control 10.2 for use in Active/Passive High Availability Environments
    Overview and Requirements:
In order for the DB Control to service a database instance after failing over to a different host in the cluster, the following conditions must be met:
    1. Install on a shared disk/volume which holds the binaries, the configuration and the runtime data (including the database). Installations on non-shared devices are not supported.
    2. Configuration data and metadata must also failover to the surviving node
    3. Inventory location must failover to the surviving node
    4. Software owner and timezone parameters must be the same on all cluster member nodes that will host this database
    Installation and Configuration:
    • In order to override the physical hostname of the cluster member with a virtual hostname, you must use the parameter ORACLE_HOSTNAME to configure DBConsole
    • For inventory pointer, software must be installed using the commandline parameter ‘-invPtrLoc’ to point to the shared inventory location file, which includes the path to the shared inventory location.
    • The database software, the configuration of the database and DB Control is done on a shared volume.
Note: The use of OCFS V1 to install shared Oracle binaries is currently not supported.
If you are using an NFS mounted volume for the installation, please ensure that you specify rsize and wsize in your mount command to prevent running into I/O issues.
    See Metalink Note <279393.1>
    Example:
    lxdb.acme.com:/u01/app/share1 /u01/app/share1 nfs rw,bg,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,hard,nointr,tcp,noac,vers=3,timeo=600 0 0
    A. Setup the alias for the virtual hostname/virtual IP address
You can do this by either allowing the clusterware to set it up, or manually before installation and startup of Oracle services. This virtual hostname must be static and resolveable consistently on the network: All nodes participating in the setup must resolve the virtual IP address to the same hostname. Standard TCP tools like nslookup and traceroute can be used to verify.
    B. Setup shared storage
This can be storage managed by the clusterware that is in use or, you can use any shared file system (FS) volume as long as it is not an unsupported type, such as OCFS V1. The most common shared FS is NFS.
    C. Setup the environment:
Some OS versions require specific OS patches to be applied prior to installing 10gR2. The user installing and using the 10gR2 software must also have sufficient kernel resources available. Refer to the installation guide for more details.
Before you launch the installer, certain environment variables need to be verified. Each of these variables must be set identical for the account installing the software on ALL machines participating in the cluster:
    • OS variable TZ
Timezone setting. Recommended to unset this prior to the installation
    • PERL variables
Variables like PERL5LIB should be unset to prevent the install (OUI) and DB Control to pick up the wrong set of PERL libraries
    • Paths used for dynamic libraries
Based on the OS, the variables can be LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LIBPATH, SHLIB_PATH or DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH. These variables should ONLY point to directories, which will be visible and usable on each node of the cluster.
    D. Ensure that oracle user name, ID and group name and ID are in sync on all cluster members
The user and group of the software owner should be defined identically on all nodes of the cluster. This can be verified using the ‘id’ command:
    $ id -a
    uid=1234(oracle) gid=5678(dba) groups=5678(dba)
    E. Ensure that inventory files are on the shared storage
    1. Create your new ORACLE_HOME directory.
    2. Create the Oracle Inventory directory under the new oracle home
    cd <shared oracle home>
    mkdir oraInventory
    3. Create the oraInst.loc file. This file contains the Inventory directory path information needed by the Universal Installer.
    a. vi oraInst.loc
    b. Enter the path information to the Oracle Inventory directory, and specify the group of the software owner as the dba user:
    Example:
    inventory_loc=/app/oracle/product/10.2/oraInventory
    inst_group=dba
    F. Start the installer:
You need to point to the inventory location file oraInst.loc (under the ORACLE_BASE in this case), as well as specifying the hostname of the virtual group. Debug parameter is optional.
    runInstaller -invPtrLoc /app/oracle/share1/oraInst.loc ORACLE_HOSTNAME=lxdb.acme.com –debug
    G. Update the SPFILE and tnsnames.ora file
Add an listener entry to the spfile file that points to an entry in the tnsnames file calling the virtual IP directly. As an example, set a tnsnames.ora entry that points to the virtual host name:
    LISTENER_DBC =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lxdb.acme.com)(PORT = 1521))
Then update the spfile parameter local_listener to point to the new tnsnames.ora entry:
    SQL> alter system set local_listener='LISTENER_DBC';
    SQL> show parameter local
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    local_listener string LISTENER_DBC
    H. Startup of services:
Ensure that you start your services in the proper order:
    - establish IP address on the active node
    - start the TNS listener
    - start the database
    - start dbconsole
    - test functionality
    In case of failure…
    - Establish IP on failover box
    - start TNS listener lsnrctl start
    - start the database dbstart
    - start dbconsole emctl start dbconsole
    - test functionality
If you want to manually stop or shutdown a service:
    Stop the application
Stop DB Control emctl stop dbconsole
    Stop TNS listener lsnrctl stop
    Stop DB dbshut
    Stop IP

  • Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent won't close during MS Office Update Install

While running Microsoft Office Updater I tried to close apps that were preventing the Installer from continuing. Two apps wouldn't close: Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent. Out of desperation rather than knowledge I ran the Disk Utility and repaired permissions. BINGO! the Installer closed the errant apps and completed its task. What is going on? I read the same advice repeatedly in this forum that repairing permissions is a waste of time. Clearly not in this case I think.

A message to quit applications occurs in Office for Mac
If you see a message to "quit the following applications"  while installing an update for Microsoft Office for Mac  (See image) , click Continue, and then quit the applications listed in the message. To quit an application, click its name on the Apple menu bar, and then click Quit <application name> or press COMMAND Q. You can also quit an application if it has an icon in the Dock by pressing the CONTROL key, clicking the icon, and then clicking Quit.
You'll also have to turn off Sync Services in Outlook. To do this, start Outlook, click Outlook > Preferences, and then choose Sync Services under Other. Uncheck all boxes and then quit Outlook.
You should now be able to install the update for Office.
NOTE The message to quit applications may also appear if you're installing Microsoft Office for Mac. Follow the same steps to quit the applications before you install Office.

    Hello,

this. Does this mean that the field names in excel are not
understood by SQL? If so, how do you get the data in there.

I'll second the recommendation for Navicat. Yes, it's $99,
    but it's saved my
butt a lot. I recently had a client during the election who
    was adding
candidate endorsements to their db a few times a week. Five
    minutes to add
their Excel spreadsheet each time. And making changes was a
    breeze. I don't
    touch MyPHPAdmin anymore.

  • Database Daemon Fatal Error

Has anyone see this "Database Daemon Fatal Error" when using Entourage? Here is the rest of the error message:
"The Database Daemon has encountered an unknown error. The daemon will need to quit, and Entourage may need to be force quit."
I downloaded VMware Fusion2 to my Macbook a couple of weeks ago and started getting these errors when using my Macbook/Entourage for e-mails. Everything worked fine before that. It could be my proxy settings or something as the IT guys helped with the install and maybe they changed something.
Just wondering what this was and if anyone had seen it.
    JJ

    Hi Jessel_j,
Unfortunately I've not seen the error first hand but I did track down an article that talks about it. The steps recommended were identical across the 4 or 5 articles I quickly glanced at.
    http://blog.petermolgaard.com/2009/06/12/databasedaemon_fatalerror/
What's interesting, it would appear, that running this database utility may resolve the issue for a period of time but not permanently.

  • Outlook 2011 - MS Database Daemon crashes constantly

    Hi there,
We're having an issue with Outlook 2011 where the Microsoft Database Daemon will crash within a few seconds after launching Outlook. I've tried every recommended solution I've been able to find, from deleting .plist files, rebuilding the database, to completely removing Office and reinstalling. Even reinstalling OS X over top of the existing system doesn't work. My only solution thus far is to re-image the Mac and then restore from Time Machine. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them. I've included part of the error log below. All of the Macs affected are using OS X 10.10.0-2 and the latest version of Office 2011.

Haven't seen that problem before - and I've a 15" late 2011 running Office for Mac 2011, version 14.2.5 (the latest version that I know of).
Check for updates in Outlook (or any other Office app) - if there are no updates available, take your question to the Office for Mac 2011 forums - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum?tm=1357128197958 - maybe someone there can help.
