Ms office documents printing gibberish

hello i have successfully set up a print server using cups.  but whenever i try to print ms office documents (via mac) it just prints out gibberish.  i have set up my mime.convs and mime.types in /etc/cups but it still doesn't work.
anyone else have similar problems?

This is a problem with Microsoft office documents that's been going on for years. If you Google around enough, you'll find people complaining about it going back to Office 2004. I've been looking into it for a couple of years for a client who uses Leopard and office 2004. Possible solutions include: creating an invisible folder at the root level of the SharePoint called “TemporaryItems” and using Terminal to give it the proper permissions; changing all of the numeric user IDs away from 501 and 502 and using very large unique numbers instead; and changing the owner of the share point on the server to something called NETWORK SERVICE (it's unclear to me if this will work on a Mac server or only Windows).
I have applied the TemporaryItems folder solution, and it did solve the problem for a number of months. But it just came back with a vengeance. So here I am, googling around again. I can tell you this problem occurs, with some variations, in versions of Office from 2004 through 2011, and Mac operating systems from Tiger through Snow Leopard. It's rather mind-boggling that this has never been dealt with.

You can find lots and lots of people online complaining about this. Just spend some time searching. In my case, my clients are only using two computers, one of which is using native filesharing, so it's not even a full-on server situation.

  • Connecting to Printer via Bluetooth, documents print gibberish

    Howdy,
I have a Canon Pixma iP100 and have recently installed the bluetooth accessory so that I could print wirelessly from my computer and iPhone via bluetooth. However, it won't work! I have sent documents to the printer from my computer and the documents come out in gibberish. Varying about 10 - 20 lines per page, it's become a real waste of paper and is getting to be really frustrating. Once it starts to print a document, it continuously spits out these pages of gibberish until the paper runs out as if there is no 'last page.' It does however print photos.
I also am unable to connect my iPhone to the printer. It will not recognize that the printer is available to connect so therefore won't print anything (documents or photos). Any ideas?
I've followed the Bluetooth Guide that came with the Canon Setup Utility and have set up the bluetooth preferences within it.
    I have a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.5.8) and an iPhone 3Gs (4.2.1)
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi again:
Since the printer works when cable connected, it appears that he BT connection is the problem (not exactly a startling revelation! ).
You probably have already done so, but my next step would be to contact Canon (tech support) to see if there is a software update and/or a workaround. I am jumping to conclusions, but I suspect the Canon software is not playing well with your Mac.
    Barry
P.S. There is no OS X setting that I am aware of that would cause what you describe. However, you could trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart. It would also not hurt to reset the SMC.

  • My L7680 intermitently prints gibberish part way through pdf documents.

My printer has recently strated to intermitently print gibberish part way through a pdf document.  It happens most often if the document is long, eg more than ~5 pages or if I send several pdf documnets to the print queue.  If I resubmit the document for printing, often it comes out OK or it goes wrong later in the document.
I'm running Windows XP and I access the printer through a BT HomeHub wireless.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers, resetting the HomeHub and running the HP Diagnostic software with no joy (the latter found no problems).  The problem does not seem to occur when printing Word documents.
    I hope someone can help.

There have been reports of Vista not working well with older networking equipment.  Here's a link to a Microsoft note on this subject.
I also have a couple of other questions:
When the printer stalls, can you ping the printer from the PC?  Can you access the printer's internal web page by browsing its IP address?
How is the PC connected to your network (wired or wireless)?
Are there other wireless devices on the network besides your PC and your printer?
When the printer stalls, can you still browse the internet from your PC?

  • Document Managment - Printing MS Office Documents

I am using Document Management and want to distribute documents based on an BOR Object Event trigger.  The documents are MS Office documents such as Word / Excel.  My requirement is to print the documents to the default printer of the user who triggered the event.  I am able to trigger the distribution but the result is a SAP mail with the documents attached but I want to actually output the attachments WORD / EXCEL attachments automatically to the printer. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Microsoft Office Documents Not Printing in Complete PDF Books

    Good afternoon all -
Our users load Word documents and Excel documents into Workspace, then add them to reporting books. When they run these books in Complete Book in PDF view, the Office documents do not show up. They show up in every other view.
Oracle Support suggested the following options:
    1) run the PrintServer from a command window --- this worked, but isn't viable long term
    2) change the 'Log On' properties for the PrintServer service to 'This account' and specify a regular admin type account/password. --- I have not gotten this to work yet. I have it running under a user in the local admin group for that server. I see the EXCEL.exe and WINWORD.exe services pop up in the task manager window, but nothing further than that.
I'm wondering if anyone has advice or has run into this problem before. My server admins aren't offering much in the way of help here.
    Appreciated in advance,
    Sarah

I spoke with Oracle Support and they say the patch will not fix this particular issue. I'll keep that in mind though in case we run out of other options to try.
I found the following in the FRPrintLogging.log:

  • Printing Microsoft Office documents

I migrated from an iMac 24" with Snow Leopard to an iMac 27" with Mountain Lion. The result is that I cannot print Microsoft Office documents, nor Open Office, nor iWork documents, nor Adobe acrobat professional documents. All the programs crash and close suddenly when I try, even before the "choose printer" frame
The only way is to open the documents with the application "Anteprima" (i do not know the english  name, could be Preview?) but this is a cumbersome procedure and altering the original formats.
Does anybody else have the same problem?

    To access your user library
Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

Is there a way to convert office documents (doc, xls, ppt)to pdf files without using external program?

Is there another way to print office documents from SAP or should I use some other FM like CV120_GET_APPL_FROM_REGISTRY?

  • HP LaserJet 4300 prints gibberish for one user, but prints OK for all others on a Windows 7 32-bit

HP LaserJet 4300 printer installed via LPT1 using Universal Print Driver v5.2.6.9321 on an HP 8100 desktop running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit.
For one particular user, this printer prints gibberish no matter what type of document she attempts to print.
Not sure when the problem began, the user uses a network printer to work around this issue. She can print to any of the other HP printers on our network OK, including another 4300 down the hall.
Anyone else can log on and print the same documents OK on this desktop using this printer.
Have tried rebooting the HP 8100 and power cycled off/on the 4300. Also uninstalled and re-installed the 4300.
I have updated the firmware on this 4300.
Changing the print processor in the printer properties did not help either.
Virus and malware scans have not detected any issues.
Any advice for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Office PDF Print and office PDF creator(adobe plugin) create different line thickness result

    Hi together,
Office PDF Print and office abobe PDF creator(adobe plugin) create different result. It seems that Adobe PDf creater improves line thickness to 1pt instead of 0,3pt. Is there a setting to change to original 0,3 because this 0,3 are standard line thickness for our documents. with adobe V9 the line was 0,3pt. (we need thin, mid and thick lines)
After 2 day's google searching this is the last change for hope :-)

    Hi Bill,
Thanks a lot for the fast reply, i have tested it with 300dpi but I didn't get a different result. The bad thing is that not all lines getting thicker. if there is no arrow or ball at the end of the line the line thickness will not change (see Pic). I think this is a Acrobat error, i don't think that this will improve the pdf quality if the progam changes only some lanes and not all to 1pt.
I Think we must downgrade to version 9.

  • Microsoft Office Document Imaging

I upgraded Office 2007 to 2010 and found out that I am no longer able to view/print any of my multi-page tiff documents scanned with standard Mircrosoft MODI 2007. The old MODI libraries were removed by the installer and the new office version seems not to have such option in the Shared Tools.
Will MODI be included in the final version of the office 2010?
    Thanks

    Hello Everyone,
    Please see this resolution:
How to install MODI by installing SharePoint Designer 2007
Another way to install Microsoft Office Document Imaging for use with Microsoft Office 2010 is to install Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007. SharePoint
Designer 2007 is provided as a free download from the Microsoft website. Microsoft Office Document Imaging is included with the SharePoint Designer 2007 installation package as part of the Office Tools.
To install SharePoint Designer 2007, visit the following Microsoft website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=baa3ad86-bfc1-4bd4-9812-d9e710d44f42
How to include MODI in a SharePoint Designer 2007 installation
    1.
Run the SharePointDesigner.exe from the link in the article. Or, download this file, and then double-click it.
    2.
Review and then accept the software license.
    3.
    Click
Customize to open the installation options.
    4.
    Expand the
Office Tools tree to see the Microsoft Office Document Imaging
    option.
    5.
Click the down arrow for the
Microsoft Office Document Imaging option, and then select
Run all from My Computer to include all of MODI in the SharePoint Designer installation.
    6.
    Click
    Install Now.
Enterprise customers who are installing SharePoint Designer 2007 do not have to worry about licensing.
The MSOCache footprint is much smaller than that of the Office 2007 suite, which ranges from 500 MB to 900 MB, depending on SKU. The SharePoint Designer footprint is about 209 MB.
How to use the Office Customization Tool to make sure that only MODI is installed
To test SharePoint Designer and to use the OCT to lock down where no one can install the SP designer part of the software, follow these steps:
    1.
Download the SharePoint Designer 2007. To do this, visit the following Microsoft website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=BAA3AD86-BFC1-4BD4-9812-D9E710D44F42&displaylang=en
By doing this, you may create an Office customization tool (OCT). You must download the main .exe file, SharePointDesigner.exe, and then extract the files by using the command line. For example:
    \\Servername\ShareName\SharePointDesigner2007_download\SharePointDesigner.exe
    /extract:\\servername\sharename\
This extracts the Setup.exe file, the Admin folder, and so on. After you do this, run the following to create the customizations:
    \\Servername\ShareName\SharePointDesigner2007\setup.exe
    /admin
Within the OCT, go to Set feature installations state, and set everything except the MODI to
    not available.
    2.
If SharePoint is used in your environment, only installing MODI files, Owssup.dll and MSO.dll can be affected by this custom installation. To prevent this, you need to unregister
Name.dll. To do this, run the following command at a command line:
    msiexec /I {90120000-0017-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} REMOVE=IMNFiles /qn /L*V C:\temp\loggingremoval.txt

  • HP C6280 prints gibberish/special characters

HP Photosmart 6280 running on MS XP, USB connected.  Used to work fine, now when I try to print anything from anywhere it wastes paper by printing gibberish. It takes pages and pages to get one good print. I also get a computer message that says printer is disconnected...any suggestions?

Updated the printer firmware and it didn't help.Is there any thing that can be done from outlook side
    Hi,
We don't know if it's an issue on Outlook client side, we need more information to narrow down the issue.
So this only occurs in Outlook? Does this happpen to all emails? You have mentioned that this is an enterprise environment, so how many clients are affected by this?
First try to check for updates and install any required ones (It’s always a good idea to keep current with updates.), then check result.
Please keep us posted with any updates.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
    programs.

  • Programmatically creating postscript files for office documents

    Hi All
I am in the process of experimenting with vb.net to open up a word document in the background and create a postscript file, which i would then use to create a pdf. This currently is a windows service and seems to run ok when the same code runs through a windows form application.
The problem i am having is with the "When creating a postscript file you have to sent the host fonts" error message, which seems to be fairly common judging by numerous articles on various forums. However, none of the solutions seem to solve my problem.
I have set the "Do Not Send Fonts To Adobe PDF" option to OFF on printer defaults, on the current printer setup and even on the printer settings for that application (go to print, properties etc from within Word).
However, whenever i run the code i get the error message. I then made the instance of word visible and checked the application settings for the adobe pdf printer.... the "Do Not Send Fonts To Adobe PDF" is now ticked. But when i close this down, and open word as a normal user would and check the setting it is off! Why would this be?
Can i programmatically change this setting when word opens and before i run the post script file creation code? Where is this value for the setting stored? I do not understand why this is resetting in the instance of word through code? Is it something to do with setting the active printer and at this point using the default setting?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Nic

You say you are doing this as Windows service – does this mean you are running this on a server of some sort?  If so, that is NOT ALLOWED.
