Hi,
Here you can find the officially Hardware and Software Requirements for SQL Server 2008 R2:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.105).aspx
There should be NO problem as much as I know if the basic limitation fit you (as shanky mentioned).
I had (an clients still have) several servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard & SQL
Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Standard with no problem (today I have one old developing server with this exact installations work great for several years).

Please help As i am running out of time as i have to upgrade TFS for that first step is to install SQL server.

    Hello,
The following are a few things you can try:
Copy the media to the local disk drive, unzip it (in case you are installing from an ISO file, and run SQL Server setup from there.
Try to unregister and register the Windows Installer with the following two commands:
    msiexec /unregister
    msiexec /regserver
Try to use Process Monitor to log the detailed error produced when the installation of dw20sharedamd64.msi fails. You can download Process Monitor from the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
Share with us the error captured by Process Monitor.
    Hope this helps.

  • Running oracle database xe (express edition) on windows server 2008 r2

Is it supported to run Oracle Database XE on Windows Server 2008 R2?
Database XE is only supported as 32-bit. Current builds of Windows Server 2008 only come in x64 configurations.
Here are the Database XE system requirements for windows:
The docs say that 32-bit windows is required, yet they also say that windows server 2008 is supported.
Windows Server 2008 R2 came out in 2009, and in R2 they eliminated 32-bit OS (though there is the WOW64 subsystem to run 32-bit programs within the 64-bit OS).
    See:
    - [Wikipedia page about windows server 2008 with info on R2|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_2008#Windows_Server_2008_R2]
    - [Wikipedia page on "windows 32-bit on windows 64-bit"|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOW64]
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
Is it supported to run Oracle Database XE on Windows Server 2008 R2?No.
The docs say that 32-bit windows is required, yet they also say that windows server 2008 is supported. So this means that only 32bit versions of 2008 will be supported.
Windows Server 2008 R2 came out in 2009, and in R2 they eliminated 32-bit OS (though there is the WOW64 subsystem to run 32-bit programs within the 64-bit OS).Which is probably why 2008 R2 is not supported.
    You can either take the VM approach and install a 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Linux host, or you can queue in the list of persons waiting for a 64 bit Windows release. See the following thread for details (and the queue) for the latter: {thread:id=2277728}

  • Installing Application Server 10g (10.1.3) on Windows Server 2008 Document

Basically, I need to find out if 10.1.3 application server Enterprise Edition can be installed on Windows Server 2008 with a 64-bit operating system. A yes or no is helpful, but I would like to have a link to the documentation. I'm assisting on an install and have been asked to find this info.
I've done some searching, but haven't yet been able to find anything on 2008. I found this ( [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/win.1013/install/reqs.htm#sthref62] ), which is from this ( [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/getstart.htm] ), but the documentation found there only mentions as high as Windows Server 2003. Our DBA would like to see it say Windows Server 2008 64-bit, not just Windows Server 2003 and up (before we make an order on hardware).
Does anyone have a link that specifically says windows server 2008 / 64-bit is possible?
    Thanks in advance!

Since Windows 2008 was released after the 10.1.3 release, the Installation Guide does not include Windows 2008. In this case, the Certification should be checked before proceeding.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3) Certification Information
    [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle_soa_certification_101310.html]
From here, you will find that 10.1.3 is certified on Windows 2008 and that you should also see the following document for more details:

  • Installing Oracle 11gR2 Standard Edition on WINDOWS Server 2008R2 with ASM

    Hi,
I want to setup Oracle 11g DB (11.2.0.2) Standard Edition on Windows Server 2008R2 x64 bit with ASM Instance. I would appreciate if you could suggest me with the following little but important questions.
The following link from Oracle doesnt have 11.2.0.2 db version for windows x64 bit. Do a patch (which I think is a complete installation) is needed to install after installing 11.2.0.1? or I can directly install 11.2.0.2?
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html
Secondly, I have no such experience regarding installing and setting up ASM Instance on windows. How many disks or etc is needed for ASM (as ASM disks). One of the admin guy said, he has 6 disks (2 for OS and 6 you can use for Oracle or ASM so so). Could you please suggest, how should I divide the disk partitions of what should I say no idea :(
Also, do ASM instance (diskgroups, disks) should be setup before creating DB (through dbca?)
    I was thinking like:
    - Installing Oracle software
    - Creating ASM disks,diskgroups,instance,etc
    - Creating DB (using dbca?), isnt' it?
    Bundle of thanks in advance.
    Best Regards

  • Is Enterprise Manager included or free with WLS standard edition ?

Hello Experts,  I did lot of research but unable to confirm whether Enterprise Manager ( EM console ) is included in WLS standard edition.  As per the information mentioned by Oracle in http://www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/application-server/oracle-weblogic-server-ds-1391360.pdf,  what I understood is  if I have  WLS standard Edition, it comes with Enterprise Manager ie., EM console.  While comparing cost,  I realized that WLS Enterprise Edition is far expensive than WLS Standard Edition.   But all I care is  Full ADF and EM console when I get WLS  so  I think WLS standard edition should be good for me.
Can you please  clarify my concern.
    thanks

From the Enterprise Manager Licensing Information doc:
"The base installation of Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c includes several features free of charge with the purchase of any Oracle software license or Support contract." So if you own a WLS license or a Support contract, you can use the features that come with the base installation (see the doc for more information). Contact your sales team if you need clarification.

  • Compatibility Exchange Server 2003 SP2 and Domain controllers Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi all, I have this scenario:
    - Two Domain Controllers Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
    - Two mail servers Exchange Server 2003 with the following version:
      6.5 (Build 7638.2 Service Pack 2)
I want to upgrade my domain controllers to Windows Server 2008 R2.
My question is whether exchange Server 2003 6.5 (Build 7638.2 Service Pack 2) is supported with Domain Controllers Windows Server 2008 R2.
Can you tell me some official Microsoft website where this reflected?
    regards
Microsoft Certified IT Professional Server Administrator

Exchange Server 2003 SP2 supports DCs running Windows Server 2008 R2. These DCs should be RWDCs and not RODCs:
Exchange 2003 SP2 will now be supported against writeable Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory Servers.  Additionally, with the General Availability of Exchange Server 2010, and those looking to standardize on Windows
Server 2008 R2 we have enhanced the supportability of forest and domain functional levels up to Windows Server 2008 R2.  This change is effective immediately on Exchange 2003 SP2.

  • Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation error while installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard VM server

I've been trying fresh installation of SQL Server 2008 R2 enterprise on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard VM server several times for two weeks, but always get the error "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation". At first, I attempted
to install all features, but failed several times. So I decided to try install just Database Engine service, and still fail at the SqlBrowserConfigAction_Install_ConfigNonRC_Cpu32, with the error "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation".
I remote login to server with my admin domain account. This account is in server local Administrators group. I
    1. Right-click on setup.exe file | properties | Compatibility tab | select compatibility to Windows 8.Then click OK.
    2. Right-click on setup.exe file | Run as Administrator, to start the Installation Center.
I have the document of my installation steps and zip file of the installation logs, if you need to take a look.
    Appreciate for any help!
    ntth

    Hi ntth,
"Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation"
The above error is always related to the Windows account SID mapping. I recommend you login into Windows using another Windows account which has administrative privileges and run SQL Server setup using that Windows account.
Besides, please note that we need to apply SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 or a later update when installing SQL Server Windows Server 2012 R2. For more information, please review this

    Hi,
Check if SQL Server service is running fine. I doubt you may have changed the user account password used for SQL Server service. After restarting the machine, you also need to update the user account of SQL Server service in Configuration
Manager. Re-type the user account name and password under Log on tab and see how it helps.
    Thanks.
