MS Usb Mouse Scroll Wheel Problems

Im having this problem on my laptop running arch.  I have the USB module loaded.  My XF86Config file looks as follows.
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "XFree86 Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Mouse1" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "dev/usbmouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Buttons" "5"
EndSection
I get output from this usbmouse via (cat)
cat /dev/usbmouse
or
cat /dev/input/mouse2
With both cats, I get output by scrolling the wheel and by depressing the wheel(5th button).
I really don't know what else to try.  I have tried putting protocol on auto, and switching device path to /dev/input/mouse2 with no luck.

I have a Twinhead lappie. In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ( Arch 0.6 )
( which is looked for before XF86Config ) I have :
Section "ServerLayout"
# ps/2 mouse not detected
       Inputdevice "PS/2 Mouse "AlwaysCore"
# Serial mouse not detected
       InputDevice        "USB Mouse" "CorePointer"
EndSection
Section "Inputdevice"
Identifier "Serial Mouse"
Driver      "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Microsoft"
Option "Device " "/dev/ttyS0"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "PS/2 Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection
Section "inputDevice"
Identifier "USB Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option Buttons"       "5"
EndSection
That gets the touchpad and USB working for me, allowing for the fact that I copied it by hand, and may have made a mistake.
This works for me, but I must try  'ExploderPS/2'.
I think it was just a straight copy from whatever Vector-soho decided I needed.
Remember that X 4 looks for XFConfig-4 before it tries XFConfig. that can be a trap, if you edit config and leave config-4 alone, you make no changes to X runtime.

  • Possible temporary fix for mouse scroll wheel problem in Lion

This is a potential temporary fix for those users of Lion who are unable to fix the reversed mouse scroll wheel issue. I myself have a Microsoft Arc Mouse (not the touch version but the original version) and when I went into the mouse system preferences there was no checkmark box option to return the scroll wheel to its original configuration. When I called Apple about it I was told it's an issue with Lion not recognizing the mouse as being able to reverse the scroll wheel and that Microsoft will need to update the firmware to allow for this change. On a whim, I tried out my wife's Logitech mouse (can't remember the model but it's a fairly recent one) and checked the system preferences. This time there was the checkmark box to allow the scroll wheel to be returned to its original configuration and I could use the scroll wheel as normal. When I plugged my Arc Mouse back in, the scroll wheel had reverted to its original configuration of rotate the wheel down for down scroll and up for up scroll.
So, for those of you who are unable to correct your scroll wheel through preferences, you might want to try plugging in another mouse, making the correction in system preferences, and then plug your original mouse back in.

I mean it. Apple makes major changes in the way things have worked for years, then makes that change the default, causing 1m people to struggle. Bad Bad App le.
There other changes like this in Lion as well, which are arbitrary and are "App le" policy now, which even App le themselves do not follow! (e.g. Cmd-Delete for "Don't Save" in a few App le applications, where 900 million people have used Cmd-<first letter of button> already, for years)
And yes, I did have to go next door and borrow a mouse. "Why?" they said... "I have a Mac" I said. "<laughter> get a real computer" they said. App le does itself no favors by pulling this stuff.
Many of us cannot buy new equipment when arbitrary changes are made, and "get a new driver" is a slap in the face, especially when such changes as Reversing scroll for many-millions could easily be done by making the "new way" an Option, not a default.
Don't get me wrong, Mac and iPhone etc are way ahead of MS and all, but the rabid arrogance inside App le is App aulling.

    Some other info:
You  know that you can control Photoshop input fields http://screencast.com/t/ApVseKYRxz with the mouse scroll wheel. Pretty handy indeed. You just have to click on the field and spin the wheel and values changing.
    The problem:
My mouse wheel cannot control the input fields in this way. I select the field, spin the wheel and nothing happen. When I spin it faster a couple of times, than the values get changing - pretty strange ha? Scrolling normally - do not change, scrolling fast change. But to scroll fast is not an option because I cannot change the values slightly with small increments... There is a bug really...
What I tried and didn't work:
    1. Restarted Photoshop
    2. Plug/Unplug and change different USB slots for both receivers.
    3. Reintalling latest SetPoint Drivers (after uninstall I run ccleaner)
    4. Put all SetPoint settings to defaults (because I programmed some mouse keys to Photoshop specifically).
    5. Install earlier versions of SetPoint drivers.
    6. Set my UEFI BIOS to defaults.
    7. Restarted the BIOS to load all the drivers again, but still no luck
(the last think I didn't do is to reinstall Photoshop)
What I have investigated so far:
    1. When I restart the computer and run Photoshop it works perfect HA! , but after a seconds it do not words again ...
    2. When I stop SetPoint software, when I shut down it, it words perfect.
    3. When I unplug keyboard receiver it words perfect, but I do not have keyboard:)
    4. Everything works perfect in Illustrator and After effects.
    5. Also I noticed that when I scroll images in CameraRaw - http://screencast.com/t/xKnn6cY9 the I have to scroll harder and spin the wheel harder to scroll - the same problem.
    6. Also in photoshop and bridge scrolling here - is pretty smooth and works perfect - http://screencast.com/t/75IXMG6Zria
Maybe the most important part - When I start experiencing the problem:
I had same configuration , same everything and everything worked fine.
I installed SSD disk, reinstalled Windows (same like before), updated my BIOS to UEFI. Installed Photoshop and SetPoint and problem started.
Posted same request to Logitech, but want to ask you for help too.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
    I found a solution.
    1. Uninstall your current Setpoint Driver.
    2. Run CCleaner - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
    3. Download an older version of SetPoint - http://www.oldapps.com/setpoint.php
    (I used SetPoint 6.15 (x64), I tried 6.20, 6.32, 6.50 , but no luck)
    4. Now everything is all right!
    Thanks!
Can somebody mark this as solved? Thanks!

  • Can I use the mouse scroll wheel for zooming the timeline?

    Howdy...
As a recent convert from Vegas, one of the best features that I miss is using the mouse scroll wheel to zoom into and out of the timeline..
Anyone know a way I can set this up in FCP6?
    Thanks...
    -Ben

    Yes.
(I know I'm gonna get flamed by the pros here who will advise NEVER to use third party plug-ins, but... I've been a heavy user of FCP for years and NEVER had any problem with this, so here goes:)
Install USB Overdrive, and program your mouse with:
    - wheel_up to cmd+plus (=zoom in) and
    - wheel_down to cmd+minus (=zoom out).
I actually use clickedwheelup and clickedwheeldown for this zooming in and out, keeping the plain vanilla wheel_up and wheel_down for, well, up and down (or clip_left and clip_right on the timeline).
Nice thing is, it then works in the Viewer and Canvas to zoom in and out, too.
    HTH.

  • Mouse scroll wheel not working correctly.

Just installed Firefox 4 and my mouse scroll wheel is not working correctly. When opening the program, I can scroll as normal for about 5/10 minutes. Then, suddenly, the mouse scroll wheel no longer works. I've since found that it is actually scrolling outside of Firefox. E.g. I had Outlook open and it was scrolling through my Outlook even though Firefox was the open window. I checked this multiple times and it always seems to be the case.
Checked about:config as advised, everything looks correct on the mousewheel settings (i.e everything is set to default). Mouse drivers are up to date. No problems with any other programs. This issue started occurring in Firefox 4 beta. I switched back to 3.6 so I could continue scrolling. Updating to Firefox 4 caused the issue to recur.

It seems a lot of people are having problems with the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball. I actually thought I was done for after just a few weeks of using my first (wired) one. But here I am years later with my wireless variant, beeing perfectly happy with it (in case you don't know, the wireless Mighty Mouse is a much better option due to it's laser based tracking system). In my experience, getting rid of fluff that interferes with the ball is quite easy on both types. Try blowing really hard directly at the trackball (optionally while you press it down with some pointed device) a few times. Rotate it and repeat as needed. Alternatively roll the mouse upside down on the microfiber cloth that probably came with your Mac.

  • How do I get the scroll bar back to the right side of the screen and how do I get the mouse scroll wheel to work again?

Yesterday the scroll bar on Firefox was moved from the right to the left of the screen and the webpages do not scroll when using the mouse scroll wheel.

Reset the pref <b>layout.scrollbar.side</b> to '0' or set to '2' to place the scroll bar at the default right side.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.scrollbar.side
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/about%3Aconfig
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Loss of Mouse Scroll Wheel Function

I took a leap and a leap of faith upgrading from Firefox 3.something to 11.0. I'm working through the little annoying differences in the user interface, but I'm having a problem with scrolling.
I can't put my finger on any particular web site or page size, but I find that occasionally my mouse scroll wheel will stop working with Firefox and I must use the scroll bar to move through a document. Once it goes, it's gone. I can move to another tab that previously scrolled with the wheel and it no longer does.
If I close Firefox and restart it, the scroll wheel works again (even with the page on which it previously quit. If I leave Firefox running but switch to another application, the scroll wheel works there, so it's unlikely that the driver has become corrupted.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox 11.0 (downloaded and installed 4/5/2012)

I doubt that I have a PDF open in another tab because I don't use the PDF plug-in to Firefox. When I go to a web site with a PDF and click on it, I get a pop-up that asks if I want to open it (I use Foxit) or save the file. I often have a PDF open when I'm on a web site however. I just opened one and everything's still OK. Then I went to a web site where I clicked on a PDF and told it to open it with Foxit, and things are still OK.
Like I said, I haven't yet found anything that consistently makes it happen.
As for updates, I really want to know if there's anything specific that might cause this problem. I don't like to make updates, not even Windows updates, unless I see that the update either solves a problem or gives me a feature that I really need. I look at the Windows updates and they all seem to be about security, which isn't a problem here. In the case of installing the new Firefox, I was getting tired of web sites telling me that I had an unsupported web browser (though usually I could get what I wanted). I'm NOT going to just let Windows do what it wants with my computer. I depend on it too much to do that.
Could it be that something that Firefox needs is running out of memory after browsing for a while? Is there something I could check for that? I think I have 1 GB of RAM in this Pentium 4.

  • Mouse Scroll Wheel Broken in Commenting Pane

    Hello,
In Acrobat XI Pro, the mouse scroll wheel does not work for me in the Comments List area of the Comment pane. I've read other posts where users are reporting the same problem. This worked in Acrobat X.
I'm a technical writer and frequently get upwards of 50 comments in a PDF that I need to scroll through. It is a huge time waster to use the arrow keys or move my mouse to click. Adobe, is there a fix for this problem? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I've tried two different mice.
    Thanks!
    Justin

Found the problem.  For years the mouse portion of my xorg.conf said
    protocol    PS/2
... as noted previously, that always worked, including scroll wheel usage.  But a little hunting turned up the advice to change it to IMPS/2 and now it works again.  For the record, the complete entry now says:
    Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier    "Maus"
        Driver        "mouse"
        Option        "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
        Option        "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option        "CorePointer"
        Option        "Buttons"    "5"
        Option        "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

  • Keyboard and mouse scroll wheel freeze

A friend and I both using INDD CS4 occasionally find that, while working in an InDesign file, the keyboard input stops working (can't use keyboard shortcuts or enter text) as does the mouse scroll wheel. They work fine in other applications, just not InDesign. We can still click things okay and use menus with the regular mouse buttons, however. The issue stops about a minute after mousing around within the application.
It's a strange phenomenon. Any ideas out there?
Using InDesign 6.0.2 on Windows XP SP3.

This sounds like it might be a driver problem of some sort.
You can eliminate the video driver as the cause (a prime suspect) by right-clciking a blank spot on the desktop and choosing properties. Go to the Settings tab and click the Advanced button. Click the Troubleshooting tab and set harware acceleration to none.
If the problem goes away, find an updated driver for your video card. If not, try installing an updated mouse driver. If neither of those works, come back and tell us.
You should also update to 6.0.3

  • Use of mouse scroll wheel in Forms 6i runtime

Is there any way to make the mouse scroll wheel work in Forms 6i runtime? Does it work in some areas and not in others? Ultimately, the user would like to use the scroll wheel to navigate through rows in a block instead of dragging the scrollbar. We also have data in a particular row and column that has scroll bar. I'm hearing that in some instances it works, don't know if I believe, not sure if it's workstation dependent. Client workstations are generally XP.

I think (can't ckeck at the moment) that an animated gif will only run when deployed on the web (you need the JVM)
As I said, I think this is the case but can't confirm it at the moment.

  • Use mouse scroll wheel to change numeric control

Does anyone know if and how I can use the mouse scroll wheel to change numeric control values?

Another option would be to change the timeout.  This would avoid the timeout event every ms when the mouse has not "entered" the contol.

  • The mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg

I recently installed Solaris 10 on my x86 box. One issue is that the mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg. Hmmm... Okay, it sometimes did work, and most of the time went on strike, and recovered at random. This pattern continued.
My mouse is an ordinary PS/2 one with two buttons and a scroll wheel. I want to promise that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it per se. Here is some info:

  • NEWBIE-Using Mighty Mouse scroll wheel to control Color's SMH wheels

Hi, new here & new to Color, working thru Ripples iTunes Color tutorials right now. Loving Color so far. I hope to be back with less rudimentary questions one day but here's the 1st:
Lacking a dedicated hardware interface, I'd hoped the Might Mouse scroll wheel would drive the shadow midtone and hilight wheels. I've tried various permutations in system prefs but no dice. Have I missed something? Thank you.

nadsta, I've found using a ShuttlePRO2 unit very handy. It's cheap, and I can map whatever shortcut I want, and then I use a Wacom tablet for the color wheel adjustments.
I've mapped the ShuttlePRO to jump between grade 1-4, and the different rooms I use the most (primary in/out, secondaries, color fx), turning grade on/off, set/delete keyframes and adjust keyframe type, two buttons for ALT/OPT and SHIFT modifiers which comes in very handy for selecting and adding to a color selection (in secondaries for instance) or holding ALT while click-and-drag in the color wheels and different parameters around the interface.
It's not perfect, but I can at least do some things in less time than I would using the keyboard.

  • How to make the scrollbar function with mouse scroll wheel?

Is there a way how to make my content scroll even with the mouse scroll wheel?... I have to edit the coding??

    Hey!
You shouldn't have to edit any code.
There is an active player bug surrounding this issue however, which causes the following:
    1) It should work on windows.
    2) It may not work on Mac.
We're continuing to pursue this issue, we know it's important to our users.
    Thanks,
    Tara

  • Viewing a video (YouTube, etc.) disables the mouse scroll wheel - switch to Opera and scroll on a page, return to FF and wheel is reenabled.

After viewing a video (usually YouTube, but not exclusively; either directly, or embedded in a web page), the mouse scroll wheel will become disabled. If I then switch over to Opera and use the scroll wheel on any open page, the scroll wheel will be re-enabled upon return to FireFox.

    Important questions:
What ActiveX control are you using?
I'm using the PDF activex control to display a PDF on the front panel of my VI.
What version of LabVIEW are you using?
     I'm using LabVIEW 7.1
What "control pages" are you talking about?
The pages of the PDF: it has several pages. If a mouse is held over it the user can scroll using the scroll wheel, or if they right click they can access the Adobe menu.
It's these that I'd like to inhibit them doing.
    Thanks
    Andy
