MSI K7N2G-L Mainboard Socket A Dual-DDR

Having serious stabilety problems with my mainboard... I'm using TwinMos DDR ram 2x256, Q-Tec PSU 400W Dual Fan Power supply and running Windows XP Professional.... I'm constantly getting a blue screen, and the computer restarts before i'm able to read what the error says... Anyone have any idea what it may be?? ?(  ?(  ?(

Exactly which sort of TwinMos RAM do you have?
I've got 2 x 'TwinMOS PC2700 DDR-DIMM 256MB CL2', my system's been on 24/7 for a month, rock solid.
With a cheap power supply, using onboard graphics (IGP).
Which BIOS are you on?
Do you see Nvidia memory controllers in your 'Device manager'/'System devices'?

  • MSI K7N2G-ILSR Problem! Need help!

Hi,i bought a K7N2G-ILSR last year when i was in Germany. This mainboard never worked as well... I wanted to work with Athlon XP 2500+ and Dual Channel 256MB+256MB=512MB 400 Mhz DDR-Ram. It hasn't worked when i first wanted to use and i changed the jumper to the securit mode than it worked but it has never opened with one button pushing.I was always trying to get screen vision with 3-5 closing and opening. One day i tried to get the jumper back and i tried to open but it never worked. I got the jumper securit again but again never worked. I tried everything but it never worked after that event. Normally i had to inform it at first and give it back or give it to the repairing but i couldn't have time. Now i have to do it this time. Now i want to change this or something else but in Turkey. I am living in Turkey and does MSI Support Centre change it or repair it? What can i do to get rid of this problem. Need help!
Thanks for your helps from now!

  • MSI-K7N2G vs Powercooler PCH-161

Hi, I have a MSI-K7N2G-L mainboard... and a problem with a brand-new Powercooler PCH-161 (http://www.powercooler.com.tw). Well, I did all connections as indicated by the vendor, but the mainboard shuts down automatically. You can see a good picture of my cooler here: http://www.powercooler.com.ar/pch161s.htm This is what I did:
I did not connect the cooler directly to the mainboard, of course. The cooler comes with a TSAC (sensoring system) bringing a splitter with four connectors (two in each end). In one end, there is a three-pin male connector which is to be plugged into the three-pin female connector of the cooler itself... in this end there is also a four-pin female connector, but it remains unused. In turn, in the other end of the TSAC there is a four-pin male connector, which is to be plugged into the power supply itself, and also a three-pin female connector containing only the sensor (a yellow cable). The latter must be plugged into the mainboard, obviously.
Despite I followed the instructions carefully to the letter, the mainboard continued to shut down. Well, I was said by the vendor that the only solution would be to set "Halt on No errors" in the bios, so that it won't stop on boot, but I think that this is a somewhat dangerous solution, isn't it? Besides, I bought a first-class mainboard and a first-class cooler so that I wouldn't experience this kind of problem
Ah! I already checked all BIOS updates (my version is Award 3.4), but I found nothing, and decided not to update... lest a new problem shows up
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

When powering up Gigabyte G35Gv2 laptop, by pressing F9 (function key 9), it goes into recovery mode. Then it tries to use the Windows recovery image stored in a hidden partition to bring up Windows recovery tool (from where the laptop can be rebooted, of course). So that's also adequate to give this trackpoint a good kick, I noticed. You may try if such an ugly/ineligant work-around is available in your laptop. But if you've formatted that hidden partition, then unfortunately it's quite painful.
I got this laptop only a few days ago. I got one problem already fixed by the Kernel folks (namely a WARNING alert by UEFI layer). I've one open bug report for Noveau as well, which surprisingly works well, although floods kernel log buffer. However, things are looking positive for this particular Elantech trackpad issue, in the sense, the kernel input layer folks have had patch submissions directly from Elantech Engineers in the recent past (www.emc.com.tw). So I'm hopeful that this problem might get their attention. If it does, then that would indeed speed up the bug fix process. Fingers crossed.

  • K7N2G Dual DDR Installation

Ok, i have 2x256mb DDR400 and 1x512 DDR400 memory sticks. How do I fit them into this board. There are 3 slots, 2 normal and one to activate the dual DDR option. Does this mean that if running dual ddr I can only use 2 of the slots?
    Cheers

    dezza9995,
You do not need more than 512Mb of RAM for most applications out there. Your best bet is using the two matched 256Mb Sticks. Now if you need a full Gb of RAM, then put the two 256Mb stick in the first Memory Controller and the 512Mb stick in the second Memory Controller.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • 128bit Dual DDR mode (msi 6373)

    Hello!
I currently have only one 256mb pc2100 ram in my nforce.
I am thinking of buying another 256mb so i can use dual ddr mode on my nforce.
How much will the performance increase be using 2 256mb dimms?
I cant get another identical ram dimm to the one i currently use, will it be worth it buying 2 identcal ram dimms?
Thanks to all who reply, Hope xmas went well.
    Happy new year!

Try buying one more DIMM as close to the specs of the one you have as you can get. If that doesnt work, get another one of the new ones. Since you are using onboard video dual ddr mode will definitely help. You'll get enough bandwidth that your video circuit and your CPU will be able to comfortably co-exist at top speed.

  • Dual DDR problem with K8N Neo2 Platinium.

    Hi all,
    I have a new K8N Neo2 Platinium since last week. My configuration is : AMD 64 Venice 3000+, 2 x 256 MB Kingston Value RAM (KVR400X64C25/256) 160GB Seagate SATA, MSI FX5700 VTD 256MB etc...
The problem is I cannot work them in dual DDR mode! But they works in single mode very good. I know that my RAM pairs are not in vendor list! But I love my RAMs..They are CL2.5 and I think they are valuable...
    So what can I do?

Deathstalker , lots of value kinston ram is qualified .
Just take a look at NF4 testreport:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/7125/memory.pdf
And what you say about value ram vs non jedec spec OC ram is often quite the opposite as valueram follows the jedec spec
and is a more "hit" than miss with most motherboards contra what OC ram is .
Dxvideo , make sure you use memory slot 1+2 as said, also try booting to bios with one stick and save cas as 3.0
then install second module . Se if it helps with looser cas value .They also follow jedec SSTL 2.5v standard
but is verified by vendor -/+ 0.25v so you can also set voltage manually to 2.6v (or more) to help them out .
If it worked in dual chl on NF2 doesn't neccesary mean they will on A64 system as this memory controller is more picky than
the external memory controller on NF2 boards.

  • MSI K7N2G Dead ?

    Hello,
I recently bought a N2G Mainboard together with a 2400+ boxed CPU. Now i've got the following problem.
The 2nd time I switched it on it doesn't do a thing except beeping, on the D-bracket it says lights 1 and 3 are red, which means RTC testing. Now the funny part is when I unplug my floppy cable it says only light 2 green meaning CPU is broke or not properly inserted. Below a list of my hardware which was attached to the system.
    - MSI K7N2G
    - AMD 2400+ Boxed
    - 3x 512mb VT DDR Memory PC2100
    - AOpen 300watt power supply
I used the onboard graphic adapter and also tried a seperate one but no change in the failure.  ;(
I also checked the CPU to see if it had green stuff coming out of the core, but none there
    All input welcome,
    Thanks

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your help.
I bought a new PSU with 550watts, enough power to run my complete house on. This didn't solve the problem tho, but I discovered what was wrong.
I must have made a change to the BIOS regarding the FSB. I switched the (FSB) jumper to 100Mhz on the mainboard. Switched my PC back on and it worked.
Now I went to the BIOS and made sure it was on 133Mhz and saved it again. Switched back the jumper to 133Mhz and switched it back on. My machine was working again. Funny thingy tho is that clearing your BIOS with the jumper didn't change a thing.
Anyways... A new problem i'm facing now regarding my onboard VGA or my Memory. Without installing the nVidia drivers it runs fine.. Really quick and made me happy. Now after installing the drivers my PC shows now and a then blue screens.
Every thing is default, no overclocking or what so ever
    I'm using ...
    3x VT 512 DDR PC2100 16 chip 32M x 8 Gold
    1x Adaptec 29160
    2x 36.7GB 15k IBM HDD's
    BIOS version 3.2
That's all what is in there.
    Anyone ?
    Thanks!

  • Woohoo, MSI K7N2G-L up and running

Well after much trepidation/waiting/stuffing around I finally got a working cpu installed into my mobo.
And it all worked first go, with ABSOLUTELY no problems.
    I'm now running the following;
    MSI K7N2G-L
    AthlonXP 1600+
(borrowed from a mate whilst I save for my 2400+ or better)
Using the onboard vid/sound/LAN (all working fine)
2 x 256 MB Hynix (Hyundai) DDR333 el cheapo RAM
    80 GB Seagate 7200RPM
    4KUS 52x52x24 CDRW
    400 Watt Ritmo PSU
Temps so far on cpu are 55c idle 60c load.  CPU and HSF need a big cleanup with some acetone, but that's for later this week.
As for DDR RAM compatibility, everything seems fine.  I haven't tried pumping the system up to High Performance settings in BIOS or tweaking the RAM settings.  However I don't think the cheapie RAM will like any changes from the default settings.
Anyway I'll try to get the specifics of the Hynix RAM and post it to the RAM sticky guide on this forum.  Is there a way to show the specific details of your RAM in Windows?

Go update your BIOS now as it will drop those temps to where they should be or close...
You can use something like SiSoft Sandra to get the specific specs on your memory or go look it up on the mfg's website...
Glad it all worked first time...mine did too!
    Cheers!! 8)

  • How do I: Activate dual DDR in BIOS?

This is a totally clueless question, i know, but it's important, i think.
I have two sticks of 256MB RAM and i've placed them in the two slots which are adjacent to eachother on my K7N2G mobo.  Is there anything i have to do to enable the dual DDR channeling in the BIOS or anywhere else?, or is it a function that is just always active?

  • Need help with MSI K7N2G-ILSR

This is probably a really easy problem to fix, but my internet time is limited since my old system is in pieces, and I have to do this from work.
My new MSI K7N2G-ILSR, running with a Barton XP2800 and 2 DIMMs of Geil 512MB DDR PC3200 , doesn't seem to be happy with things. When I tried to turn things on, I got no video output, and there was a regular series of beeps.
I believed this is just a memory issue, and I intended to look into it when I get home...however, it seems things are a little more complicated than I may have thought.
After failing to get any results with the pc3200 512 dimms, I switched to my old 2700 256 meg DIMMS, which I knew worked fine. To my surprise, the system then worked...almost. It got to a certain point, and then gave the message "no drive is connected to fastrack", or something to that effect, and then froze.
The system also worked with combinations of my old 256meg and one of the new 512s, but not with both 512s at once. The 256s, in combination, powered up every time; however, they didn't allow me to install anything. The combination of 2 256s and 1 512 worked most of the time, but would occasionally fail to detect the the RAM - resulting in the same steady beeping as earlier.
For the sake of curiousity, I removed the IDE cable from the DVD drive. To my surprise, Windows (the drive was not formatted) tried to load...which would not happen when the DVD was connected. I then reconected the DVD, and removed the IDE connection from the hard drive. XP tried to install, and then crashed...in fact, the whole system powered down. And now will not restart again. It's dead, and I can't seem to get a single response from it.
This made me wonder if the problem lies with my PSU. Does this sound like something which would happen if the PSU was playing up? I have a 450 watt unit, which I thought would be ok. But the only thing I can think is that the PSU doesn't have enough power to deal with the demands of my new system. I imagine the 3200 DIMMs require a lot more power than the 2700, which might explain why the system can't power up using two of them - the PSU can't handle it.
Any ideas at all? I'm getting more than a little frustrated now. Any advice gratefully received...

Remove all devices from your setup except the CD-ROM (or DVD device) and the hard drive, and connect each to the end connector on different IDE cable, making sure each device is set to "cable select" (preferred) or "master" (2nd choice). Plug the CD-ROM (or DVD device) into IDE2; Plug the hard drive cable into IDE1. For now, don't plug anything into IDE3.
Your power supply is probably adequate, but beware. While many PS'es are "high wattage," many don't deliver enough power to the critical 3.3V bus. Check to make sure that your PS is rated for AT LEAST 28 Amps for the 3.3VDC supply. If not, get a new ANTEC TRUE PS that is. Don't skimp on power; it's like you skimping on food, then running a marathon.
Only install (1) 256MB module in one of the two slots that are together. I recommend the slot closest to the CPU.
If you are running a video card, remove it and use the IGP for now.
Now, power up, and when you get the logo screen, go into your BIOS by pressing the delete key. If your screen is blank and just sits there, then power off, unplug the computer, and set the "clear CMOS jumper." Wait 30 seconds, replace jumper, plug in power cord, and restart computer.
When you get to BIOS, make certain that it sees both drives in the first BIOS screen. Set your time and day (if you like) and then go to the second screen and set your CD-ROM/DVD as the first boot device, set the HD0 as the second (it should already be that way), hit and save and exit, but don't set anything else. Your computer should now boot from the CD-ROM and try to install Windows (I assume XP.) When it asks for you to press F6 to load RAID drivers, don't.
Choose to format your drive using NTFS, don't choose the quick format.
    Report back!

Back to the memory timings, i'm planning to get 2x 256 pc 2700, so, how can i set the timings?
Pick up ddr 3200 is same price if not cheaper right now than 2700 (for your K7N2 Board)
The timings are in the Advanced Chipset Features then you will see it Memory Timings default is [By SPD] its best to leave it there but if you want to tighten them just set it to manual and go down the list adjusting them to your liking.
    Edit:
We posted at same time, I though that only happed with me and raven

  • MSI K7N2G-L nothing but problems!!!!

I've been trying to get my AMD 2700+ to run in my K7n2G-L for over a week now.  When I boot the CPU registers as a 1500+.  There are no multiplier settings on MSI's website for the 2700+ for this board so I just stepped back and used the 2600+ settings to be safe.  Then my board wouldn't post so I set the jumper to 100mhz and she posted again.  It will register as a 2700+ in Safe mode (100mhz).  But when I try to load an OS I get a BSOD.  I've RMAed my CPU and my memory now so its has to be this board.  Someone please help me out if you have any ideas! Thanks!

I'd look at the PSU that you're using for the system first...do Wonka's formula for checking total power on the 3 main voltages then if that isn't the problem I'd RMA the board...just doesn't seem like a MB problem tho...

  • Replace K7N2-L with MSI K7N2 Delta FSR Socket A nforce2

Hi I think my Mainboard has fried , if this seems to be the case I will have to replace soon , I was wondering if I replaced my Existing K7N2-L Nforce 2 board for the MSI K7N2 Delta FSR Socket A nforce2 , will my Operating system realize that ive change boards , Its just i recall going from one Board to another in the past and I ended up having to reformatt my Machine as i was getting all sorts of problems ..
i have recently Formatted and I dont want to do it agian , I have a spare board but its a SIS chipset , and wont support my CPU or My Kids CPU .. Any help would be great Cheers Kurvz

You will need to do a repair install of Windows, and you will need to reinstall the mobo drivers. Formatting isn't necessary, and was probably not the last time either. A repair install will not damage any of your important files, and you will not need to reinstall other programs (perhaps a few monitoring programs), but the updates you made to Windows will be gone.
