MSI P6N SLI Platinum and SLI!

Hello!
This motherboard comes with that SLI switch Card (required to be inserted before SLI function works)
Also how can I remove that card from its place?
And in what manner do I have to insert that card to make SLI function work?
Helpful replies will be appreciated...

Pull the 2 metal levers at the sides sideways and the card will flip out - Turn it around (Theres 2 arrows saying "non sli mode" and "sli mode") Put the side that says "sli mode" facing the connector, press it down and the metal clips will click back into place.

  • Dual Core Center- MSI P6N SLI Platinum and MSI 8800 GTS 640

I have both the MSI 650i MOBO and the MSI 8800 GTS vidcard. When using an Asus P5B Dlx MOBO and this vidcard, Dual Core Center was installed and displayed the information for the videocard and allowed a mild OC. Now with both MSI products in the case, Dual Core Center only displays the information on the MOBO-- no 8800 GTS information. The tab at the top for the VGA does not bring up anything.  ??? I have tried installing the version on each one of the disks that came with each piece of equipment again and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent version of the utility from the MSI site and still get only the MOBO information. How do I get the display for the video card.
Or since the MSI utilities typically are listed on the forums as not being the greatest, what else can I/should I be using instead?
    {I'll put this in the graphics forum too as it hits both areas...}

Running a P6N SLI Platinum and a MSI 7900GTO with Dualcorecenter 2004 and everything is ok.
Never installed any driver from the MSI CD which comes with the board or graphics card. All drivers are downloaded
    from Nvidia.
Maybe the 8800 series is not supported yet.

  • Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??

MSI web page says the Diamond has:
"Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=638
their Platinum page doesn't list the Silicone Image raid as a feature on the Platinum.
I have K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum and it has the Silicone Image raid - I'm using it now.
    Can anyone explain this?
Another question:  for both boards it shows:  "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different?   What do the mean Raid for 133?
    Thanks!!!

have you tried uping the voltage, the black dragon works perfect at 1066 from 2.2v to 2.4v, however the gskill requires 2.3v to work perfect at 1066 (so my setup its 2x1gb geil and 2x1gb gskill (total 4gb) voltage set to 2.3v) if i dont set 2.3v i get completely random restarts (could be after afew hours or afew days), all passed with prime and occt.
just in case, after bios reset ddr is set to 800 as default ,go into bios and set divider to 1066, then set timings to 5-5-5-15 (dont use auto/sli ready) bios sets strange timings by default at 1066 then set voltage and save.
I've tried everything and even chatted with MSI Techs over it all, been back and forth between MSI and OCZ for about a month now.. bottom line, MSI told me was that they don't certify or support OCZ ddr1066 on the K9N2 SLI Plat; which OCZ Techs told me, basically. B.S!  ...claiming they tested the Board themselves when it came out.   However OCZ doesn't even have the Board listed on their RAM Configurator on their website; which they claim is MSI's fault... and so on, and so on...
Anyway, OCZ is offering to swap my Reaper Set for a different Model set which they claim is more reliable on AMD processors.  Probably their Gold or SLI model set I'd guess; they don't even advertise on their website any difference in their sticks being "Intel Certified" or "AMD Certified" ... and so on.
Worse case scenario; if in the end whatever they give me still doesn't work, I'll EBAY it and try a set of those geIL Black Dragons.

  • MSI K8N SLI Platinum and 4x512 DDR

    Hello everybody,
My problem is with a 2nd kit of 2x512 MB DDR I bought recently. I had a pair of  Kingston KHX3200ULK2 512 MB and unfortunately this model was discontinued, so I got another 2x512 MB DDR, this time Geil UltraX which should work @ 5-2-2-2-1T.
When leaving everything on auto, the motherboard sets the 4 modules at DDR333 with the tightest timing. I want to run them in DDR400, so I set them up manually @ 5-2-2-2-2T. In this config, everything is unstable. Sometimes the system doesn't boot, sometimes I get blue screens, etc.
Can somebody help me with some ideas ? The system appears to run stable with timings setup at 6-4-4-2-2T, but I really paid a lot on those modules and I'd like to squeeze the most out of them.
    Thanks in advance

Latest test I did: DDR400 with 5-2-3-2-2T. Ran Prime95 for more than 4 hours and no errors. Still have to check with some games, maybe a 3DMark in loop.
    Will come back with updates.
    Thanks.

  • ¿Could work together a MSI K9N2 Sli Platinum and a Radeon HD 4890-HD489XZSFC?

Hello. I know that nVidia and Ati chips are not the best friends. However, I have a very good price and opportunity to buy the XFX RadeonHD 4890 1 GB DDR5 HD489XZSFC. Should I try? Actually I`m running a MSI 9600GT-OC which is not bad at all. This 4890 seems to be really great, I`ve been reading a lot of customer reviews and all of them were delighted.
K9N2 use the DDR2 memory and this GPU has the DDR5.
    What do you think about?
    Regards,
    Florin

We are not going to recommend other manufacturers competing products.  ATI video cards and NVIDIA MOBOS should have no problem working together. So, an MSI Radeon 4890 should not have any issue with a K8N2 SLI Platinum.

  • Video messed up with P6N SLI Platinum and ASUS EAX1950PRO

    Specs:
    CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4G
    4 GB Patriot Ram
    P6N SLI Platinum
    ASUS EAX1950PRO
    RocketFish 700w psu
Problem:  I don't get the grpahics card post screen just the MOBO's and the video is all messed up.  There are multicolored vertical blinking lines running up and down the screen.  I can see through the clutter that it is posting fine (it looks for a boot device) but I figure I need to fix the graphics issue before going any further.
I am working on a new system, so at this point everything is unplugged except the RAM CPU and video card.  I have tested it out switching the ram sticks out so unless they are both bad it is not the ram.  What is my problem?  ANy help would be rad.
    Thanks
    Ryan

Test your video card in a different system or try a different video card in the P6N SLI Platinum.

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum and OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition

    Hello,
I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard and I would like to inquire if it is fully compatible with OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition memory? Firstly, I do not seem to get the correct timings with the default settings, speed is not very good, after 5 hours of running Memtest86+ there was 30 errors. I have never had the memory crash and games seem to run fine, but the memory feels much slower than it should be. Is the memory supposed to work fine with this motherboard and I'm just imagining everything? I don't know if I'm also supposed to be worried by the errors Memtest86+ returned?
Thank you in advance for any help.

    If memtest returned errors, yes
Well, there does not have to be a problem with the memory just because it returned errors. There could be many other explanations why there are errors.

Jacobl, please post full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of the details you should provide.
How many modules of what capacity do you have?  What are your current RAM-related BIOS settings?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, please test each stick seperately with memtest86+ and see if the errors are caused by one of the sticks only.  Otherwise there is no way to tell if there is a compatibility problem or just a faulty memory stick.
Please post a link to the OCZ product site and also a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" tab.
    I have this memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel.
This is the rest of the components as instructed by the forum post you linked to:
    Intel E8200
    MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel
    Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI
    500GB Western Digital SATA
    SATA DVD burner
    Windows XP SP3
    Antec 500W PSU
I usually troubleshoot components step by step - eliminating all possible reasons until I have found the solution. My first step was to post here to find out if there are any known compatibility issues with the motherboard and memory. I adjusted the memory timings with a slight overclock because the motherboard did not load the default timings by default. I will start by adjusting the BIOS settings, check if the memory is inserted into the right DIMM slots and then test the memory sticks one by one. But to answer my own question: I think the motherboard and memory should have no compatibility issues and it must be something else.
Quote from: Freestate on 07-September-08, 23:06:36
I have the OCZ 6400 Fatal1ty modules 2x2 GB that is very similar of the ones you ask.And they are running perfectly but i must set the epp latency and voltaje values in BIOS! The simple modules of ocz are in the memory compatibilty list i thought that the SLI and Falal1ty modules are just the same with a little boost.
I had to set the right timings also. As far as I know, the SLI and Fatal1ty modules are probably the same, just with a little boost. I think it would be very strange if a module with the name "SLI-Ready Edition" and a Nforce 750i motherboard would not be compatible together.
Anyway, any other advice on what steps I should take? I assume by now that the motherboard and memory should work together without problem. Sorry if I started out bad by not following the posting guidelines on the forum.

    Flashing the safe way:
Use Method 1 or Method 2, both will do the same job.
    Use it at own risk.
    Before you flash!!:
Make and ensure PC is stable before proceed, remove any OC if you have.
Flash it via DOS mode by booting from USB key, CD/DVD.

Noobish question - is clearing the CMOS absolutely necessary after a BIOS update?
Yes, it is recommended to clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  There might be small changes in data structeres between BIOS Versions.  Not clearing CMOS and resetting BIOS settings after flashing can have unexpected side effects.
    Quote
I'm not really comfortable poking around inside my case apart from swapping a graphics card or hooking up power cables.
You don't need to "poke around" anywhere.  You simple need to unplug the main A/C power cable from your PSU, which is outside the case, hit the power-on button to drain capacitors and then press the little button on the back panel of your board for a couple of seconds.  That means you don't even have to open your case to clear CMOS.
    Quote
So again, would NOT clearing the CMOS jumper thingy prevent successful update/boot?
If you restart your system after clearing CMOS, the BIOS will display an error message and prompt you to reset your BIOS settings, that's it.  Nothing to be afraid of.  The only risk involved is the BIOS Update itself, not the CMOS Clear.

  • MSI K8N NEO platinum and MOBILE chips

I just found out a problem with MSI K8N NEO Platinum.
I recently upgraded my cpu from Clawhammer DTR 3200+ 1.5V to Clawhammer Mobile 3400+ 1.4V (hoping for better overclocking). To my surprise the mainboard can no longer raise the VCore voltage over 1.45V (it doesn’t matter if I select in the bios 1.5 or 1.55V). The only working option is raising de VCore by 3.3% 5% 8.3% 10%, resulting in a maximum VCore of 1.45 + 1.45 x 10% = 1.6V
I did some googeling and found there is a VCore issue with the K8N NEO and mobile chips, although DTR chips are fully supported (working VCore and multiplier adjustments).
I am using the latest beta bios 1.56B (moded by Pinochio)
Did any of you found a way to resolve this problem? IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!

    Bad post...

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum AND SATA2

i have  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard with 3500+ cpu and WD 160 hard sata disk.
I 'd like to ask if my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard support sata2 hard disk drives, in order to know which HD  to connect as a second HD drive, SATA or SATA 2 ??

It'll see SATA2 as regular SATA. You won't loose any speed either. There are no hard drives that actually benefit from SATA2 spec speeds. Well, maybe in isolated near theoretical benchmark cases one current model might be faster in SATA2 mode.
We just haven't got the technology yet.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and Venice E6

    Hi!
I have just bought an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard and an AMD Athlon64 3000+ processor with Venice E6 core (ADA3000DAA4BW).
Will this mobo boot with that processor? Or do i have to use a Winchester to flash the BIOS first? Personal experiences would be helpful!
    Andres.

Your new board probably came with the 1.9 bios. The new 7025v1B.zip bios (1B only a couple days old) I think is for some of the new X2 AMD Processors. The MSI link to Products/Mainboards/Neo2/Processor Compatibility is now setup to use the 7025v1B.zip bios. As I recall the previous Processor Compatibility Chart for 1.9 bios was OK for all the Venice cores (E6 or not). I think it is only some of the latest E6 bigger models are affected by the latest 1B bios. Maybe someone has the older 1.9 bios Processor Compatibility Chart.
You shouldn't need to use a Winchester, some X2 processors would be recognized as earlier X1 models until the newer bios was installed. I think you should be OK with the 1.9 bios. I have the San Diego 4000+ and my board, one month old, came with the 1.9 bios installed.
