Multi-state scrollable text frames

I've created a multi-state object with 5 different articles the problem I seem to be having is after scrolling half way down on one and switching to another it remains half way down the scrollable frame. Is there a way to have it return to the top of each state when switching between the states ?

Sorry for the misplacement,
I'm making a portfolio and have 5 separate projects to display, I was hoping to display them on one page with 5 separate buttons allowing the viewer to switch between them seamlessly than to have them on 5 separate pages.
I've got the desired effect thus far using 5 scrollable text frames combined into one multi-state object but switching between states keeps it relative to where the person was in the last state. Due to some articles being smaller vertically than others this can be a problem as it shows up blank which will probably create an impression of the information being non existent or the program not working.
I would appreciate any help on resetting the state to the upper left between changes and not just on the initial opening, or any alternative methods that would create the desired effect.

  • Hyperlinks, scrollable text frames, and Multistate objects

I have a DPS layout with a scrollable text frame on one side, and a multistate object (MSO) on the other. I want to be able to hyperlink parts of the text in the text frame to specific states in the MSO. How do I do this?

  • Creating Scrollable text frames in InDesign

I've been trying to create scrollable text frames in InDesign CS6 and, for the life of me, cannot figure out how to do so for an interactive PDF.
I've done so for touchscreen devices before through DPS and the scrollable frame option, but I've never tried to do it for something non-touchscreen/mobile.  I don't even know if it's possible, but I am sending this to someone who may not have touchscreen access with touchscreen scroll functionality and I wouldn't want to risk a good portion of text to go unread because of a lack-of functionality.
So, I guess my question is:  Is there a way to create a scrollable text field for an interactive PDF that could be scrolled through using a mouse or keyboard?
    Thanks in advance!

    No. It's DPS only.

  • Is a scrollable text frame possible with hyperlinks embedded in the text?

I'm new to this whole digital design world. I have a document set up with several links, some active buttons and I am struggling with this scrollable text frame. I have the frame finally working but it only scrolls from the preview button in the overlay creator panel. From the Preview Window, preview on the Internet, or exported as a SWF everything but the scrolling frame. Anyone have any suggestions??

You can, but it's not very elegant. For one thing, whatever text you have will have to basically be on another webpage addressable by URL in the iframes expression. I guess it would work, though. It's just like having two pages, where maybe one would suffice, you know?
There are some javascript examples that I have come across that would probably work. The HTML tags seem to be unreliable....I have seen some that only work on IE and not for the mozilla based browsers.
Anyways, here's an example of a scrolling iframe....it's the messageboard from my Guestmap...
    http://guestmap.dirtdoog.com
As you can see...it's not great, but it's workable.

  • Scrollable Text Frame bug?

    Hello fellow DPS users,
I seem to have activated a weird bug with the Scrollable Text Frame but I hope I can solve it with your help.
I've tried everything I can think of already but without good success.
Here is the problem. I have a page that looks like this:
So this is how it should look like and how it does look like. The red square in the left upper corner with the white text is actually a scrollable text frame which  you can pull down to get more text within a white square. The problem is, the text is above the red square and I want it to come down when you pull. So I can't set the "Initial Content Position" to "Upper Left". That's why I'm using "Use Document Position". But for it to show like I want (like in the image above) my InDesign document looks like this:
No problem, you think, I solved it. Well, not exactly. Since when I go to the real thing and test it, it initially looks good, but when I go into story view I get this:
So in story view it still shows the exact position like in the InDesign document... But in the page itself it does show well. The real problem though, is that it doesn't use the exact document position but apparantly 10 to 20 pixels below it. So it actually shows incorrectly in the page, and in story view it shows the real thing.
Can anyone help me? Is this a known issue or am I forgetting something?
    Thanks, Julien.

Well here is an update: In stead of pulling the red square down and using the "Use Document Position" as a starting position, I tried pulling it up so I CAN use the "Upper Left" for starting position.
It works like a charm, but still I rather want to pull down. But now I at least know it's the "Use Document Position" that's not working correctly.
Anyone know a workaround? Or else Adobe can put it on their todo list
Another thing for Adobe Developers to put on their todo list if they happen to read this:
If you upload your own table of contents preview you cannot undo this.
And you cannot upload your own storyview previews.
    Maybe for in the future

  • Can I assign the text in a multi-state object?

I want to assign InCopy files to the captions that are part of a slideshow, but I can't seem to create assignments for the text boxes that are in a multi-state object. Is this possible?

Currently there is no capability to add text frames withing an MSO to an InCopy assignment. There is limited support for this edit workflow when using solutions such as WoodWing or K4. Please make sure to fill out the feature request form: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform so that we can capture the demand for this function.

  • Text frame rollover states in lightbox display comp widget trigger area no longer working in V 3.0

    Hi
I had text frames with rollover states placed into the trigger area of lightbox display composition widgets
The rollover on the text worked fine, and then when clicked the lightbox composition widget opened
However this morning I updated Muse to the latest version 3.0 (which I was prompted to do) But now all these text frame rollover states no placed into the trigger areas of my lightbox dispslay composition widgets no longer work throughout my entire document
The lightbox will open when I click the text, but the rollover effect will no longer work
Is anyone having the same problem? Is there a way I can fix this? I was supposed to send the site to a client this morning :\
    Thanks

Yes. I'm having the same type of trouble with a site I'm updating for a client. I haven't updated the site since before version 2.0.
But now that I've upgraded to version 3.0 my rollovers and linking for the rollovers don't work. Very strange. I too need to get
the site posted ASAP.  Please someone help us on this subject.

  • Performance Issues DPS - Single Edition - PDF Rendering, Multi-State Text

    Hello,
Please advise on the above issue...
On a retina display ipad, I'm having issues with multi-state objects that contain text. The column on the left is crisp text, non multi-state object. However when I place the text in a multi state object (right) it's not rendering in high resolution. A bit pixelated.
Single Issue - Creative Cloud License
iPad Gen III Retina Original Version
My application is compiled using app version: v24
Also I experience performance issues using PDF mode... when you change a page everything is super grainy, and then ~2 Seconds later it renders crisp. It used to be prerendered, or much faster. Perhaps I was using PNG? I switched to PDF mode as recommended in countless articles. Is the slow render just a side affect of PDF? Anything I can do to optimize? Recommendations?
    Thanks so much!
    Richie

    Thank You, Bob!
Vector fixed it! I only have to change it on 29872498329 pages
One thing I just realized is, that I have the same issue with buttons. I have a button with Normal, and Click states. It has the same rendering issue (grainy) and I couldn't find a place to make the button render 'vector'.

  • How to access the Text Frame, when we use scrollable frame,

    Hi Friends,
How to access the Text Frame, when we use scrollable frame,
    Thank you,
    [ Nav ]

    That's the same question:
how can I access something (a page item) on a page…
Answer: you need something unique in that object you can get a handle on.
Or you use the selection a user of your script is doing and work with that selection…
A "scrollable frame" is nothing special. What it makes it a "scrollable frame" is the DPS software.
So you have to look for attached labels on the object, that identify the object for the PDS plug-in "Overlay Creator" as a "scrollable frame". That's possible with the "extractLabel("KeyString")" function. But you need to know the appropriate key-string in advance.
In another of your thread in the DPS forum, I basically answered the question how to obtain those key-strings.
When knowing the key-string you could loop through all your page items (you can skip all text frames) in the allPageItems-collection, to identify the "scrollable frame" by extracting the right label.
If you have more than one "scollable frames" you need a second unique identifier for the particular object.
That could be nearly any property.
Keep in mind, there is no "scrollableFrames" collection in the DOM !

  • Am I wrong to use multi column text frames

In every publication I encounter, all articles use one text frame per column on a page.
Why not simply use multi-column text frame per article instead of threaded text frames, one per column.
Am I the only person who thinks its better to use a single text frame with multiple columns.
I only ask be cause I would like to conform to a standard if it had any benefits... but I'm really struggling to find any.
Most of my publications are newsletters where the articles span anywhere from 2-5 columns but mostly 4-5. I like the confidence in knowing that all lines on an article are perfectly aligned.

It all depends on your circumstances. When you need columns of unequal width you have to use threaded text frames: when you set a text frame to more than one column, you can't specify the width of the individual columns.
Another difference is that in a frame with columns, footnotes always span the width of the frame. If you want footnotes the width of a column, you need a frame for each column.
Yet another reason why you sometimes need frames rather than columns is when a page contain different stories which may continue on other pages, as as the case in most newspapers.
So if your documents contain one story, don't use footnotes (or if they do, can span all columns), and all columns have the same width, then use columns. For example, indexes at the end of a book are candidates for columns; columns are probably good for telephone directories; and newspapers and magazines are maybe best set in frames.

  • Why States don't work on Tablet view for text frames over background image?

I have Macbook Pro with Top config on top S/W everything updated.
    Using Muse.
    Tablet view site.
Simple text frames buttons with states over a full width background image - DON'T WORK!
The text frame buttons are in TOP layer.
Visible but do not respond to to any touch. UNLESS I delete the background image.
Can't figure it out for days.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Eli @

    TO MUSE STAFF!!!!
I Found a major bug that needs to be fixed:
    In Tablet view:
A linked text frame or state button has to be in the top layer to respond to states.
If a composition menu is opening up and covering the button when triggered - THE BUTTON WILL NOT RESPOND EVEN IF THE COMPOSITION IS CLOSED!!!
Only if the button is ARRANGED ABOVE the composition in the layer and becomes the absolute TOP OBJECT in the layer - ONLY THEN it will respond.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU GOT IT.
I have tested it on a few projects and the bug is consistent.

Thanks for fixing it in the near future

  • ID CS3 - text wrap doesn't work at the end of a long multi-columned text frame

Did a search - don't think this specific issue has been addressed:
We design large graphics often used on walls. When working with a text frame that that was 11 feet long and had 8 columns, text wrap would not work on an image placed in the last column. The same image with the same text wrap applied will work fine anywhere else in the text frame. I found that if I shortened the width of the text frame a little bit at a time eventually it would work, but there doesn't seem to be a specific cut-off width - sometimes the last column won't text wrap when the frame is 115 inches wide and sometimes it doesn't work when the frame is only 80 inches wide. Again, all of the other columns work fine. I have tried all of the obvious stuff, the only variable between the columns that wrap and the one that doesn't is it's position at the end of the text frame.
We have gotten around this issue by using multiple threaded frames instead of one long frame with multiple columns, but I am curious if anyone else has run into this or might know what the issue is.
    thanks
