Multiple beeps on boot up

The machine locks up when I do a cold start for the first time when external power turned off.  When I do a second reboot I get multiple beeps and xp starts up ok and there are no problems.  However, I noticed I have two entries for 1394 Network Adaptor i.e. #2 and #4 (I have disabled #4 for the mo).
Any ideas what is going on? 1394 is enabled in the bios.

Hi Hondo,
Ha, but you see it is lying behind Ruckus in the folding team in 2nd olace, high speed stuff,.
Now that this Team have reached the top 1000 out of 31000 plus teams, why not join in, there are only 23 members so far, some of these top teams have 500 members. It is all to aid medical research, by computing various molecules, i think.
You can see all about it is 'anything under the sun' at the top 'user MSI projects' explains it all, team is organised by Rexb, and we need more CPU power.
Thats what I call hi jacking a thread. :hypecrite:

  • Random kernel panics + occasional 3 beeps on boot

    Hello,
Our late 2013 iMac 21.5" is experiencing some very random crashes at this moment.
Right after upgrading to Yosemite the problems started, however they proceeded after multiple complete fresh installs and also after downgrade to 10.9.5.
My feeling is that the timing was coincidental.
The kernel panics mostly occur while the computer is just being on, not used, what software is running doesn't seem to matter. It also happens when there's nothing running at all. Strange thing is that it doesn't seem to happen when for example World of Warcraft is running.
Most of the time the computer reboots fine, occasionally it gives 3 beeps on boot. After pulling the plug from wall socket and plugging back it it boots fine again.
I've ran Rember and that doesn't find any memory problems.
Since we are 2 weeks outside of our warranty it's really annoying and I'd like to solve it.
Can these problems be cause by bad memory? As said, Rember say's the memory is fine...

Well, left it idle this morning to see what would happen...
A multitude of kernels and other crashes was the result.
    A few of the logs:

  • 3 short beeps on boot up

3 short beeps on boot up

    Hi James,
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • How to get multiple beep sound?

    Hi
I want to get multiple beep sounds as output if a comparison condition gives output as true.
Can anyone tell me how to get multiple beep sound?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You could make it more pleasant if you would play a different sound file based on the comparison. (look in the windows\media folder for the sounds used by the OS. Try e.g. c:\windows\media\tada.wav)

  • Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting! another one!!

Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!
I have looked at the forum and seen several postings similar, but nothing I have read helps
The MEGA PC651 is built with the following
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz 533mhz SKT478  1mg cache Retail Boxed Processor
    Maxtor 6Y080L0 Plus 9  80GB 7200rpm UDMA133
DVD Samsung 52x32x52x16x Int IDE Combo
RAM Ebuyer 256MB DDR333 PC2700 Extra Value Ram (x two)
Not sure if the P4 processor is compatible, it has 1MB of cache. does that make it a Prescott, I can't seem to find out. the tag on the box reads BX80546PE2400ESL7YP
I do not get any POST beep,  the cpu fan or the HDD does not run when I push the  PC power button, in fact the only thing that starts is the power suply fan. The Hi-Fi Part works fine. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, have to unplug the cable.
Is the problem the processor or the mother board
Tried clearing the CMOS but no change
    Thanks in advance

A Celeron 320 is a Celeron D, as far as I know and so it is also not supported.
Have a look at the official MSI Mega Pc page and you'll find a cpu-support list

  • Notebook beeps while booting up

After a clean up by tech expert who removed messenger (duplicate) from msconfig and one thing from start up menu,
I installed the latest windows updates. First restart was fine.
Next time I rebooted and heard two beeps after I saw the desktop icons. Rebooted.
Heard one beep. Still hear that beep. Google suggests one beep is normal but I'm not used to beeps.
Old laptop but upgraded with six month old hard disc and drivers by toshiba experts.
Had AVG. Installed microsoft essentials after beep (made no difference).
Am I in trouble or is this fine? Programmes work well. (Famous last words?)

    Hi
Notebook beeps while booting because it runs the POST (power on self test)
This is a usual procedure and nothing unusual.
If you mean this beeps then you should not be worried about that this is ok

  • HP ENVY H8-1414 beeps at boot up due to the lack of a UEFI boot source

I recently messed up my Windows installation, due to this I ordered recovery DVDs from HP. Following the  instructions I was supplied with, I inserted the DVD into my computer to try to boot off of it. It did not show up in the list of boot sources when I went to the boot menu. I then realized that this likely had something to do with me disabling UEFI boot and using the legacy boot option, so I went into the BIOS to switch it to the UEFI boot option. Now when I turn it on all I get is 6 beeps, which is because my motherboard is trying to boot into a UEFI OS, but there is not one available.  So my question is, what should I do now? I can't change it back to legacy boot since that requires Windows (you have to go through Windows to get to the bios) and I can't boot into Windows because it doesn't recognize the reinstall disk as a UEFI enabled device.

COMPUTER INFORMATION: HP ENVY PRODUCT NUMBER: H3Z00AA#ABAMODEL NUMBER: H8-1414 Frank, I do not receive ANY error messages at ANY time. The monitor never comes on. The monitor and graphics card are good as I have chacked them in another system. The MotherBoard does not have on-board video. (Angelica 1.2) I receive 6 beeps, usually indicates video, and then nothing.  However, it is not a video hardware issue. I am 100% positive of this as the video card worked previously and works in another system. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F10 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F1 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F8 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F6 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F2 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit F12 and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit ESC and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. At boot monitor does not turn on (I have tried multiple monitors and keyboards) I hit DEL and I get 6 beeps, then nothing. I have tried every USB port on the machine using the same combinations from above.I have tried VGA and DVI outputs.I have removed the CMOS pin from one and two and placed on 2-3 and back to 1-2 after 10 seconds.I have removed the CMOS battery for 5 minutes and then replaced. I have tried placing a UBCD disc in the DVD drive for boot.I have tried placing a Windows 7 Enterprise dvd in the DVD drive for boot.I have tried placing a linux disc in the DVD drive for boot. This has to be a bios issue, I would think. My concern is two things. First, the keyboard does not seem to stay active during boot continuosly. Therefore, I am not sure if the system is getting a key command. I have tried several keyboards and even found a legacy USB keyboard from many many years ago. Same thing with all of them. The system does not have a PS/2 port. I have also tried using several monitors pulling out a legacy 15 inch VGA monitor to a new Dell 24 inch using DVI and VGA.  I know the system is not bad and there is no hardware that is bad.  I know this with 100% certainty. The system worked, but the harddrive was crashing (internal mechanical issue from within the harddrive). I removed the harddrive and connected to my other system to save data before a complete drive failure. After recovering 90% of the data, the drive completely failed. Therefore, the drive was pulled from a working system.

  • 9 beeps on boot

After having taken the memory out of my 24" Imac Intel, after having put them in, screwed the cover back on, it just beeps 9 times (3 short, 3 long, 3 short) and will not boot at all.
As far as I can see there is only one way to insert the memory.
I have tried searching the net but can't find anything useful.
Is there anyone here who knows what the problem might be?

    Isn't that the S.O.S?
    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • K9vgm-v continuous beep on boot sometimes, reboot and it stops

    Hi All,
Yep it's intermittent, the computer is now about a year old and never had a problem until about a month ago when on switching on, mid way through the boot process I got a continuous beep, I could still log in to my session whilst beeping all the while. re-starting the pc resolves the problem, until next cold boot it would seem and then, not always.
It's an award phoenix bios. I have 2 x 1gb dimms installed, is the continuous beep a memory problem do you know please? Is it possible that memory problems can be intermittent?
    Thanks,
    Brownster.

  • Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!

Well, I just read a lot of postings but did not really found a solution to my problem. There are  a few similiar postings but they are often not really the same. So here it comes. Sorry if I repeat anything.
Well I built up this Barebone with the following components:
    Intel Pentium IV - Northwood - 2,4 GHz; 512kb Cache; 533 Mhz (133FSB)
Maxtor IDE HDD - 160 GB
    DVD MSI 16x ...?
RAM 512MB 2700 Infinion (1 module, no crap! - inner slot)
I do not get any POST beep, neither the cpu fan nor the HDD starts to run wenn pushing the power button. The Hi-Fi Part works. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, hust by unplugging the cable.
I should not have the wrong CPU, and I installed it carefully. I am really somehow experiences so I don't think it's that, if it has not been delievered already dead.
The RAM module was installed at the inner bank. I have to admit that I did not test it at the other bank, I am not at home now but I will test it.
Does it make sense to clear the CMOS even if I did not boot any time, beacause it doesn't work ?
    thanks for all replies

Bsically, I have the same problem as the post entitles. It just wont boot. No beep at all. All of my parts are brand spankin new out of the box. As far as I know the Ram is perfectly compatible and I cant figure out what the deal is. Somone please give me some dummy directions. I want so badly for this thing to just run so I can finally use a cool PC for me and the family.

  • Multiple kernels on boot

    Hi
I am wondering how can i keep different kernels. I am used of Ubuntu which keeps different version of kernels which i can choose on boot. Is it enough to just rename existing kernel to, let's say, kernel26-old.img and edit the menu.lst accordingly before installing new ones?
Thanks for help because i really miss that freedom and simplicity.

kernel26.img is not your kernel. I can't wait for this naming convention to go away. Currently, the way we build kernels, its not possible to keep multiple kernels with the same package name installed at the same time. For any given kernel series, the module directory will always be  the same (e.g. 2.6.39 as well as 2.6.39.3 use /lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH). The name of the kernel is hardcoded into it during the build and you cannot get around this without some fairly hackish maneuvers. Installing a completely unrelated kernel (with a differing package name) is your best bet.

  • Satellite L350-12N - Beeps when booting

    Hi there,
I bought this as a reconditioned laptop, and I'm having trouble getting it to boot. When it's switched on, it shows the welcome to Toshiba screen where you can press function keys to enter the setup screens, then the screen goes black, makes a continuous beeping noise, and goes no further. It doesn't load the operating system.
I've tried restoring the operating system from the hard drive as instructed in the manual, but the same fault remains. Is this a known indicator of a hardware or software fault?
Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    Hi,
If we just switch it on and leave it to it's own devices, it reaches the toshiba screen, then the screen goes black and it makes the loud beeping noise. It sounds like separate beeps back to back with no gaps. It doesn't load the operating system.
We did manage to install the operating sytem by interrupting the normal boot sequence by pressing F8 and selecting Windows Vista. By doing this 2 or 3 times, Vista installed and launched as we would expect. At it's final restart during setup, it booted and launched without beeping.
This morning, I switched it on, and it's beeping again! In an effort to stop the beeping, I pressed F8, and it took me to the logon screen! I entered my details, and it launched windows as you would expect. This surely is not normal!
We seem to nave no option to enter the bios settings.
We've restarted it once or twice since, and it's started up just fine, so it seems to be in intermittent fault.
We haven't made a recovery disk yet, as last night we couldn't get that far! We used the HDD recovery.
Is this looking like a hardware fault we need to get the vendor to sort? Are there any known reasons for this beep? It sounds like a warning beep.
    Thanks for your help!

  • [Eclipe SLI] 3 beeps at booting and D-LED2 gives CPU ini. (System looks stable)

    Intel core i7 920 D0 @2,66
    Msi Eclipse SLI Bios V1.4
    Cossair TR3XG1600C8D (3x2GB)
I have tested the mainboard 3 days without problems on a cardbox. Now have i build it in a case and the D-LED2 gives only CPU ini. at the POST.
During the POST the mainboard gives 3 short beeps and with the last beep you hear also the normal beep (that what you always get when the POST is OK). The beeps sounds like what you hear at the racetrack.
I have installed Vista during writing this topic and it looks like it is stable.
    Anyone knows what's wrong?

I thought when not good seated, the board will not boot and you get a long beep.
That's what I meant by not work, no boot.
I also had some issues with the temp sensor not being plugged in properly.  The only CPU-ini code I have got so far is from a bad overclock.  Not sure what your settings are in the bios.  Maybe try to clear CMOS and see if it will pass CPU-ini.  Check the overclock dip switchs, I've bumped them before on accident.
