Multiple Copies of Table of Content

I'm using RH6 and once I publish the project and upload it to
the server I go to view the published project and there are
multiple copies of the TOC. I have tried deleteing the .cpd file, I
have checked the .hhc file to make sure that it did not have more
than 1 copy. But to no avail the results are the same. Please help
Thank You,
Ian

Instead of "publish[ing] the project and upload[ing] it to
the server," why can't you simply generate to the local machine and
then publish to the server? RH does a fine job of that, and will
only publish new or changed files on subsequent generate/publish
instances. Wherever the output folder is on the server, I'd empty
it completely and then publish a clean output.
Good luck,
Leon

  • How do I create multiple TOC's (Tables of Contents) in one Pages document?

I'd like to have multiple TOC's (Tables of Contents) in one document. This is useful for me because I'd like to have a TOC for the regular chapters, then a TOC for the procedures, then a TOC for the tables in the document (it's a tech manual that I am writing). How can I do this? Thanks for any help you can render, and have a nice day!

If you haven't used a paragraph style it can't create a TOC but you get the blue box with the message.
    Paragraph used.
It has nothing to do if there is one main TOC or several smaller TOC to do.
It isn't true that you can only have one TOC in a document. Use styles for your titles and headings. I do and it works fine without section breaks.
You also need to tick which tile and heading you want in the TOCs in the Document Inspector > TOC
    Did that.
Thanks to Yvan's quoting from the User Guide, I see where it says each TOC only indexes the material up until the next TOC. Since I had them follow each other, that is why they had no content.
Still it defeats the objective of indexing different material throughout the document if all you get is what is between the TOCs.

  • Multiple Copies of Same Page Content from Various Trays

I use 'gs' to create postscript, and 'setpagedevice' to specify trays.
I print a single page of content (say the file "f.pdf") on each of six different colors of paper, which are pulled from different trays.   At the moment, I do this by repeating the filename "f.pdf" six times as an arg to 'gs'.  This creates a single postscript file, into which I insert my six 'setpagedevice' commands.
My 65ppm printer has to re-render the same 'f.dpf' postscript six times, which causes it to only produce about 20ppm.
Is there a way to pass a NumCopies specification so that each of my 'setpagedevice' commands switches trays to print the exact same rasterized bitmap? In other words, to write a postscript file that rasterizes 'f.pdf' only once, and still makes use of that cached image for each 'setpagedevice'?
I'm happy to read manuals, but I don't know what technique or feature name(s) I should look for...
    thank you,
    - Randy

    Randy,
If your original one page ps or eps file was e.g.
    72 720 moveto
    /Helvetica 72 selectfont
    (Hello World) show
    showpage
Then you can try something like this:
    /MyPage
        72 720 moveto
        /Helvetica 72 selectfont
        (Hello World) show
        showpage
    } def
and then in paint procedure in the form:
    /PaintProc
        MyPage
Use setpagedevice to select your tray instead of a page size like in the prior post's example before calling the form. Since the form is the same on each
page hopefully it will be stored in the form cache and speed things up but you may need to check the cache size.

  • How to create a table of contents (TOC) linking to specific pages of different (multiple) PDFs

    Hi All,
I would like to create clickable Table of Contents (TOC) that can lead to a sub clickable TOC that would lead to a specific page of different PDFs within a folder.
    Is that possible?
Secondly, is is possible to create a search box that upon typing a specific word (not related to text within the PDFs), that word to be linked to a specific page of a particular PDF out of many within a folder?
To make it more clear, I have a database of specifications of equipment and drawings of a building, all in multiple PDF files. I would like to be able to unify all those PDFs and if I type the room number of the building to be presented with a menu of choces pointing to services assosiated with that room, being elctrical power drawings, lighting drawings or drawings of Air Conditioning and Ducting associated with that room. So I type a room number, then I get a menu of Power, Lights, Fire Alarm, or Ducting all associated with that room, then if I click Fire Alarm to be directed straight to the drawing within a PDF related to that room.
    Thanks

I would say: Try and Error. Create a copy of your document and unmark in the copied document in the document inspector all boxes for the TOC. Then mark them again. Maybe you should also delete the paragraph styles and mark them again. If that doesn't work, try to copy the complete text of your document to a new created one. Maybe that works.
    Good luck!
P.S.: If that doesn't work look here. Maybe this helps.

  • Multiple table of contents in one document

I would like to create multiple table of contents in one document. It would look something like the layout below. Each of the documents is a standalone FrameMaker file. Is this possible? I'm wracking my brain for ideas. Thank you!
    Salome
    TABLE OF CONTENTS
    Group 1 Program
    Document: Alligator
    Document: Bear
    Document: Camel
    Document: Deer
    Document: Eagle
    Group 2  Program
    Document: Fish
    Document: Giraffe
    Document: Hippopotamus
    Document: Iguana
    Document: Jaguar

    lawrence,
Pages will only accommodate one TOC, I'm sorry to say. The others will have to be generated manually.

  • Multiple Table of Contents

I am using Captivate 5 and I am creating a course which will essentially contain 3 different version inside of it, I'm wonderign if it is possible to have multiple Tables of Contents within a single course?
    Thanks!

I ran into a similar issue. Mine was a broad topic with "subchapters", for want of a better term. I wanted my users to be able to jump around within topics as needed and the simple TOC didn't cut it. Plus I had several slides during my simulation that were about 1 sec in length so I had several slides named "Cont." on the TOC...not very pretty. My workaround was to create my subchapters as separate projects and then pulled them all together in the aggregator. It wasn't perfect but it was close. I've added the ability to create sub-TOCs to the feature request page. Maybe I should bribe the Captivate developers with cookies???

  • Multiple tables of contents -- any updates?

I've searched the Pages help topic and came here look to see if I could find any help. I'm writing my dissertation in Pages, and I need to have multiple tables of content: one for the chapters, headings, sub-headings, etc., one for a list of figures, and one for a list of tables.
I found one thread on this topic that was already closed, and it looks like multiple tables of contents was not possible at that point. Are there any new updates or workarounds that would allow this feature?
I'd hoped to complete my entire dissertation in Pages but alas, it looks like I'll have to export it to Word and struggle with learning to to TOCs in Word. Bleah.

    Karen,
Sorry to disappoint but you aren't going to easily achieve what you want with the current version of Pages. Hopefully a newer version will do this. You might want to experiment with NeoOffice in the meantime. It's free and IMHO a less of a struggle than Word.
In any event, concentrate on the content of your dissertation. When you have the text, the formatting will be a breeze no matter what applications you have at your disposal by then.
    Good luck!

  • Multiple table of contents in document

    Hi there,
I'm new in FM8. I recently received a document in FM8. The structure of the document is as follows:
Every file of the document corresponds to a chapter. Each chapter contains a table of contents for its subheaders and paragraphs.
Table of contents (here are the chapter from 1 to 10, only the chapters)
Next is Chapter 1 which include a small table of contents with all subheads and paragraphs (e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1 and so on)
The same goes chapter 2 to 10.
    That's not all.
Chapter 7, 8, 9 and 10 are placed in different folders coresponding with chapters title. The rest of them (chapter 1 to 6) are placed all in the same folder.
For chapters 7, 8, 9 and 10 I manage to update the second table of contents (which contains subheads and paragraphs - e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1 etc.)
In the main folder which contains rest of the chapters there are TOC files for the main Table of contents and for the subeahds and paragraohs contents corresponding to each chapter. Here I have problems with updating them because when I open the book and update it only the main TOC will be updated. The problem appears when I create PDF. Because after creating PDF when I click on a chapter name in the TOC it will bring me to the chapter I want but when I click on the TOC for subheads/paragraphs nothing happened, except for chapters 7, 8, 9 and 10.
    So, to be more explicit.
When I click on chapter 7 in pdf, acrobat will send me to the chapter 7 where I find another TOC in wich if I click on subead 7.3 it will send me to the page that includes subhead 7.3. Instead if I click on chapter 4 it will bring me to the page coresponding for chapter 4 but there if I click on subhead 4.3 nothing will happen.
I will attach an example of that PDF.
The file structure looks like that:
    Chapter 7 folder:
         - book
         - TOC file for chapter 7
         - chapter 7 (same structure goes for chapter 8, 9 and 10)
    Project folder
         - book (it contains all files from chapter 1 to 10)
         - TOC file (the main TOC)
         - TOC files for chapters
         - chapters' files
Thank you. Any help will be appreciated.
    Excuse my poor written english.
    Trully yours,
    Fagaras Codrut Sebastian

    Hi,
if you got an FM book which contains separate TOCs for each chapter, it was most likely created using either
    - the Systec TOOLBOX (http://www.systec-gmbh.com/en/sites/toolbox.php) or
    - FrameScript (http://www.framescript.com/) with an itl script named "DocToc" (http://www.i-frame.itl.info/i-frame-base.html, website currently only available in German)
Without these solutions, you won't be able to comfortably handle a book like yours.
    Regards,
    Bernd

  • PDF table of contents spanning multiple PDF files - is it possible?

    Question for Acrobat Experts:
Question 1:  Is it possible for a PDF file to contain a "left-hand-side" index/table of contents that includes the contents from itself AND other PDF files?
I have a set of documentation in 10 separate pdf "books". However, I want users to be able to see the table of contents for all 10 books, even if they only have one book.  Also, if they click a topic from another book, that other book (pdf file) should open.
Is that possible to do using Acrobat? (and if so, which version?)
Question 2:  Is there a way for the all-encompasing Table of Contents to be generated real-time and always be accurate, (even if the user gets a new version of one of the "books", but not the others?)
We want to be able to slip-stream one book at a time to end-users, but have the TOC be accurate at all times.. Not sure if PDF files can do this. I believe CHM files can.
    Thank you!

    Question 1: Yes.

  • Why are multiple slides under one table of contents button?

I'm using Captivate 8, and notice that when I preview my course, the table of contents buttons directly correspond with each slide but then after that, the remaining slides are lumped under one table of contents button.  How can I fix this?  In other words, when looking at the table of contents, it looks like my course only has 6 slides when in reality there's 30...many of which are lumped under the last button.

You have to scroll, they are not under one button at all.
Good practice is to group slides, then you'll see the hierarchy in the TOC and you are able to collapse all groups. That way the TOC will have a clean look, and the user can open a group to see the individual slides.

  • Make table of contents links keep current zoom level, not zoom out to full page

When Indesign creates tables of contents, they automatically link to the paragraphs the links point to, so that in an interactive PDF, clicks and prods take the user to that page. Great.
What's not so great is, that the hyperlinks / cross-references / jump-links / whatever that are created behind the scenes within the table of contents appear to:
...be automatically set to reset the zoom to full page width
...not be editable in any way
Normal cross references retain the zoom level that the user has chosen, and normal hyperlinks that point to a page in the document have a range of settings about what zoom level change (if any) should be imposed on the user, which can be set to 'inherit zoom'.
How do I set up a table of contents that doesn't annoy users by resetting their chosen zoom level to an artitrary default when they use the interactive table of contents?
I'm really hoping I don't have to ditch Indesign's table of contents feature and create every cross reference manually.

(editted) So it turns out that you can 'expand' a table of contents by copying and pasting it - this fills the hyperlinks panel with links that can be editted (like above) but breaks the auto-update - they're no longer a TOC, they're just a text frame full of links. (I had got different copies mixed up when I thought the frame holding the editable links was also auto-updating)
The greying out of the links was a red herring, just something to do with the fact they were on a master page.
It does mean that one possible TOC workflow is:
Create a TOC on the pasteboard somewhere.
Before finalising the document, update this TOC and alt-drag the 'live' TOC creating an editable 'dead' copy in an appropriate place in the document
Edit the link properties of the links in the 'dead' copy (don't forget that you can select multiple hyperlinks at once by holding down shift, and edit things like the Zoom Setting all at once with Hyperlink Options in the Hyperlinks flyout menu. )
Then, if you make other changes to the document later on, delete the dead copy, update and re-copy the live original, and re-do the changes to the new copy
This isn't a bad method - it just adds about a minute's work each time you export a PDF (delete, update TOC, alt-drag, shift-select the new batch of .XXXX links at the bottom of the Hyperlinks panel, > Hyperlink Options, Zoom Setting  > Inherit Zoom, done).
Alternatively, you could manually build a TOC using cross-references if you want links to the exact position on the page, not just the top of the appropriate page.

  • Can I create a custom table of contents and link to other .pdf files based on responses to a form?

Hey Everyone! First post ever, so bear with me:
I'm trying to create a streamlined method to use a form  to let myself and others add information and select certain options to put together a custom table of contents. Basically, I would like to have a form with a series of text fill and single/multiple choice options that will automatically populate a table of contents based on the selections and will link to other .pdf files that are associated with the selections. I was hoping this would be possible with a form, but I'm relatively new to the function of the software as a whole and my research came up short. Any suggestions on how to start are more than welcome, and if I wasn't quite clear enough I would be happy to elaborate.
    Thanks for your time!

You would need to search for other PDF creation software that can accomplish what you desire.
There are many cheaper  PDF creation alternatives other than Adobe's Acrobat Pro software.
Also, try doing a web search under these terms to see if you can find an app/software/solution that may work for you.

  • Multiple copies of same database on a 2 node RAC server - How to merge ?

I currently have multiple copies of the same database running on a 2 node Rac system. I am looking for a way to combine them into 1 large database but keeping the data separate.
The databases are copies of production for testing, development and a yearly "historical" databases .
All the databases are created from production, and generally have the same schema's , tables, procedures, etc however may be different versions and need to be.
Is There a way to use one large database and logically split all the different versions of the same objects into their own space in one database ? The structure cannot change as the database is for a 3rd party's Forms application the relies on the objects not changing names etc.
Ideally I am looking for a solution that will allow the forms application to connect to "test" and "historical" copies of our production database separately in the same database container.
    Thanks for any direction.

  • How to synch multiple ios devices without making multiple copies on Mac

I keep most content on Mac Mini.  Prior to Christmas, we were using about 200 GB of the 750 GB hard drive on the Mac Mini.
At Christmas, we added 5 iPads for the family.  We synch each iPad to a shared iTunes library on the Mac Mini.  Suddenly, the entire 750 GB of hard drive on the Mac Mini is FULL.  I strongly suspect that the reason is that when we synch (or backup) all 5 iPads, multiple copies of the exact same content (mostly movies) are getting created on the Mac Mini.
How do I configure the Mac Mini, iPads, or synch within iTunes to NOT make duplicate copies of content?  For example, if each IPad has movie "ABC" synched to it, we don't then want the Mac Mini to have 5 copies of movie "ABC".
    Thank you.

Yes.  The serial parameters cluster that contains the slave address is something you will just programmatically change as needed as opposed to using a front panel control.
By the way, you don't need to have 30 copies of the index array.  Create one copy.  Expand the bottom downwards.  It looks like you start at #16, so just wire a 16 at the top, the ones below it will be successively 17, 18, 19.....  If you need to jump to another number, then just wire a constant in for that one.
You also have some awkward datatype conversion to the dynamic datatype.  This is going to cause you problems somewhere down the line.  If you want an array from 3 scalars, just use Build Array!

  • Multiple copies of same files in my hard drive

    hello:
Somehow I have managed to fill up my hard drive with multiple copies of
the same files. So, these copies are filling up drive space.
Does anyone know of a software that can point out the copies? Something that will make it easier for me to determine that I have copies of the same file and so I can delete the copies.
    thanks!!

    thanks for the reply.
    I have tried Spotlight already.
But it's not a good solution.
First of all, I don't even know which files i have multiple copies of.
And even though I may have files and folders with the same name, I don't know if the contents are identical ....etc.
    It's just a mess.
