Multiple Desktops & Outlook Problems

Hi,
I recently purchased a Curve (8310), and I've been having a problem with my Outlook sync.  Yesterday our IT people set me up on the Enterprise Server and everything worked fine.  I could send/receive emails, check my calendar and use the Desktop software on my work computer.  Then, last night I installed the desktop software on my home computer to edit applications, and since then my Outlook profile has been acting strangely.  I cannot send or receive emails unless the blackberry is connected (via USB) to my work computer.  As soon as I disconnect it Outlook simply will not work.  I have verified this effect many times, through sending/receiving emails, editing calendar events, looking up Outlook contacts and watching the Desktop Redirector.  My gmail account is working fine, as is everything else.  I have tried playing with a number of settings on the Desktop manager, restoring the blackberry to before I installed the software at home, and having out IT people reset my connection to the server.  Obviously, none of these things have worked.
I think the problem has to do with the way I installed the Desktop software on my home computer.  I used the same installation parameters as I did here, namely setting it up for an Enterprise server.  I do not use Outlook on my home computer, and I'm wondering if that version of the Desktop is interfering with my work version.  Has anyone else had this problem, or could someone suggest some solutions?  Ideally, I would like to have the Desktop on both computers, but maybe it is a matter of installing different versions on the two.  Does anyone do this, or know if it will work?  I'm hoping that when I go home and uninistall the Desktop software from my computer it will fix things, but I doubt it for some reason.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Why aren't you using Outlook on your home computer? What program are you using on your home computer to read your e-mail? If you don't have a program on your home computer for e-mail, contacts, calendar, etc. then there is no need to have the BB Desktop software, unless you are uploading other programs from your home computer.

  • SGD VDI vCenter problem accessing multiple desktops simultaneously

    Hi,
I am using vCenter as a desktop provider and have created multiple flexible desktop pools in VDI. These desktops pools are then assigned to users in SGD. When accessing these desktops simultaneously through SGD either SGD or VDI gets confused and opens up the wrong desktop. When i open the first desktop from SGD it opens up the correct VM then when i open up another desktop (from a different pool) it opens up the desktop from my previous desktop pool. The name on the Java Window in which the desktop opens up corresponds to the name of the application pool i intend to open however the VM that I login to is from a different pool. I can verify from vCenter that the desktops in the various pools are correct.
Is it not possible to access multiple desktops from different pools simultaneously or is there something that is possibly setup incorrectly? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    The versions of SGD/VDI/VCenter are:
    SGD Version: 4.5; Build: 20091119205307
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3.2.1 (Build 11)
    vCenter Server 4.1.0 258902
    ESX Server 4.1.0 26047
    Thanks.

  • Multiple Desktops

Really like the multiple Desktops.  @ 1st thought it was much like Alt-Tab or hovering across Taskbar, basically, another View/Select approach.  In 7 (& 8) would run more than one tabbed browser grouping related sites in each.  This
does that and on a higher level.  Can EASILY be done by 'family' or even if different sign-ins are required.  Can be put to good use, keeping things nicely organized & the Desktop, et al, neat, clean & uncluttered.
Just wanted to reiterate what a cool feature I find this to be of Windows 10. IT is so nice how related things can be grouped together making the experience slick, neat, tidy & very organised & uncluttered... not having a bunch of stuff all mixed
up together on one Desktop.  Microsoft calls it "Virtual Desktops".  For example, I have one w/ Skype, Outlook, Calendar... another w/ all IT stuff.... another w/ Home page & whatever & another w/ sites devoted to a singer/song-write
of particular interest to me. Anyway, you get the idea and certainly can be configured however YOU fancy.  You simply open one, put what you want in it, hit the + sign & open another, fill it and so on.  I am not sure, yet, as to how many
one can have but, a few, @ any rate.
10 sure is easy to use.  Makes such a nice difference not having 'Hot Corners', hidden things or stuff that pops out from edges.  Plus, now, w/ 10 and its menu, I don't have to enable the Desktop Toolbar or create a folder on the Taskbar for Applications
and can, still, not have to change screens for anything; just be 100% on the good ole Desktop.  All w/ hardly any 'learning curve'!  And it sure is speedy!  Certainly, non-touch PC Users should not have complaints w/ Windows 10.
    Cheers,

Thanks for your response. I think we might be talking about the same Desktop... If you close all your folders and applications and just have the Finder - I'm talking about that Desktop. The one that's called "Desktop" in Places. The one that in System Preferences is called "Desktop and Screensaver" and lets you place a picture of your choosing in the background. I think that's what you mean when you say it's "the background that all your windows and folder sit on." That's the Desktop I mean. (It is called the Desktop, isn't it?) The point isn't having different pictures there - that was hypothetical. At the moment I have a few folders and quicktime files sitting on my Desktop. If I create multiple Spaces - no matter which Space I open, the exact same folders and quicktimes remain on the Desktop. What I was wondering - and suspect isn't possible to do - is being able to create multiple Desktops: one that will have nothing but quicktime files waiting to be opened, one that will have nothing but folders waiting to be opened, etc. I hope this is clearer.

  • Emails are only being delivered to the WebOutlook inbox and not my desktop outlook

    1.  Big Problem:  How do I get emails sent to my primary email address (name @ wealthblush dot com hosted by Go Daddy) to go to both the
Outlook Web App inbox AND the inbox of my desktop Outlook 2013? They only go to
Outlook Web App and not my desktop Outlook 2013.
How is the email account configured in Outlook (POP3, IMAP or Exchange):
POP/SMTP is for the user @ wealthblush dot com - this is the one where the email ONLY goes to the Outlook Web App, but not into Desktop Outlook 2013.
IMAP/SMTP  is for the user @ charter dot net email. Emails go to both clients, but if I delete on one client it is not deleted on the other.
Exchange/ActiveSync is the outlook.com email and it only goes to my desktop Outlook.
I'm not getting any error messages. Mail is being delivered to the user @ wealthblush dot com, but only to Outlook Web App and NOT my desktop Outlook.
    2.  How can I change the inbox an email account puts incoming emails into? I read somewhere the way to do this is to create a search folder? This question is actually in advance of fixing
    question number 1 above.
    3.   I don't know how I should configure my emails with the new Outlook 2013 now being in the cloud:
        - I have an @ outlook dot com email I setup when MS came out with the free outlook dot com (hotmail), but I never used it because the reminders didn't work the same as in desktop outlook (not being able to snooze for a few hours
or days or weeks if I remember right and the way we get the alerts too).
        - I also have an email with my ISP (@ charter dot net) which is a mix of personal and business emails. I've had this account for over 10 years.
        - Finally, I have a business website (www dot wealthblush dot com) hosted by GoDaddy with one real email @ wealthblush dot com. I've already setup the aliases for several other emails in my new office 365 account (support,
sales, webmaster at wealthblush dot com) which are configured to pass into specific folders using Outlook 2013 Rules in my desktop outlook. I'm not sure if those rules are replicated into the office 365 account.
I still want the aliases to go into those folders like before.
    4.  In the case of my outlook.com email, they do go to both inboxes (on the web and desktop), but when I delete an email from one place, shouldn't it get deleted in the other place as well? How do I get them to synch?
    5.   And then there's my existing .pst files. I have 4 of them with old emails I've saved over the years that takes up just over one GB. I save these .pst files to DVD everyday so I can go back to look at something if I need to (and for hard drive
crashes). Does MS want me to import all that stuff to their servers and get rid of my .pst files? Does MS want me to put everything into one .pst file? It seems like it? If I do then I assume things need to be synchronized all the time between my file and
your .pst file? The synchronization process is as close as you can get to real-time, right? Or does each individual change get sent as it happens?
    6.  I also have a skydrive account from a while ago too. Is this where I should put my documents so they're accessible when I'm not at my desk? Now, that would be a LOT of data (probably close to 80 GB). Or, is the intention for us users
to only put certain current docs in this area. I assume these files can be synced with my desktop too, right? But I don't know how to. Do you keep old versions of the files in skydrive so we can recover them? I want to know if I can use your service to hold
my files (they would ONLY exist on your system and you'll back them up and I can get old versions back when needed).
    7.  Is an option to keep everything on my desktop 2013 like I did in 2010 of Outlook, bypassing the cloud and MS mail servers all together?
Sorry about all the questions, but I'm just getting the feel for your approach and need to decide how this all should fit together, do it, then go back to my business. I'm by myself at my company right now, but I'm planning on hiring a few people
real soon too so I need to keep this in mind. I've worked with Outlook since it came out, and I've configured it, but mainly only for myself and my family.

  • Yosemite consolidating multiple desktops on dual monitors,

I have a Mac mini (mid 2010) - 2.4 GHz - 350 GB - Yosemite 10.10.2 - with dual LG monitors. Instead of using Mission Control I prefer to have multiple desktops on each monitor. I dedicate a single app to each desktop, e.g., Safari, iTunes & iPhoto on Mon1 facing Mail, Messages & Calendar on Mon2, and swipe between apps, which I find more convenient. Six numbered desktops plus Dashboard.
In Mavericks this arrangement was preserved on restart. However, in Yosemite, all apps on Mon2 are consolidated in a single desktop, the remaining 2 desktops - 4 & 5 - have migrated blank to Mon1, PLUS an additional blank desktop - 6 - is generated on Mon1. The single desktop on Mon2 is now 7. On subsequent restarts there become eight, then nine, then ten desktops, etc.
I've been up and down the settings options, tried System Help, outside searches, and even mentioned the issue in passing during an unrelated Apple Tech Support call. To no avail. I had hoped that one of the updates would resolve this. It is easily but inconveniently resolved manually, but as I mentioned this was a non issue in Mavericks.
I mentioned this problem in an earlier post, but in less detail. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this?

I did find a workaround........ that works so far....... If I put FCPX into full screen mode.  Then my events dissapear!!!!  But if I toggle on and off the "Window/Show Events in a separate window" menu then the Events reappear and I can swipe between desktops and all the windows behave as they should.  That's a relief.  The old method doesn't work but at least this one does.  I hope this helps someone who is swiping like a mad man like I was.

  • Webex and multiple desktops

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to set your Macbook so that when you use Webex and share your desktop you can broadcast any number of the multiple desktops on the Mac. Yesterday I found myself needing to share my desktop on a Webex. Everything that was displayed on my main screen, which is where the webex application was running from, displayed correctly. But when I switched to another desktop on the Mac (to show something in Parallels) everyone said the broadcast went black. Is this just how it is, that webex can only transmit from one desktop? Or do I have something configured incorrectly?
    Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem and have not been able to find a solution.  Even trying to move the webex to a 2nd montitor connected to the Mac doesn't work. You have to be on the MacBook Pro Laptop Display and Desktop 1 only.
Would love to find an update to this.

  • IPad will no longer sync with desktop Outlook programs.  Wireless keyboard cannot find the iPad.  Cannot reset the iPad.  What is wrong?

This problem developed in mid December. the synching worked perfectly on my 18 month old iPad 2 until then.  Now the iPad will not sink my calendar, contacts and notes from my desktop Outlook program.  It does seem to sync my pictures. the wireless keyboard had no problem recognizing the iPad until mid-December.  I tried to reset the iPad by pressing the on off and home button concurrently.  The iPad logo appeared but the iPad did not reset.  Instead, my full configuration on the iPad along with all of my apps simply reappeared.  I am at a loss as to what happened and what to do about it.

Your post indicates iOS 4.3 which is now quite old.  I am going to suggest restoring your iPad, which, among other things, will update your iOS to the current version.
I recommend restoring your iPad.  Make sure you have the current version of iTunes on your computer (currently 11.0.1).  Plug your iPad into your computer, let it sync, then press "Restore" on the right side when the summary page of the iPad is displayed in iTuens' display.

  • Calendar Entries not Displaying Properly in Desktop Outlook 2007

We have 3 employees who have the Palm Treo 750 phone.  It appears that since the time change we have started having problems with calendar entries displaying properly on our computer desktop Outlook calendars.  So far we have observed the following:
*Calendar entries disappearing from desktop Outlook but still remain on phone.  For example, I came in this morning and SOME of my calendar entries for the remainder of this week are gone but they are ALL still showing on my phone.
*If disappearing calendar entries are added back via the desktop Outlook, it accepts but then it displays that appointment TWICE on the phone.
*When accepting meeting requests from the phone, they display on the phone but not on the desktop Outlook calendar.
There are other employees who use their phone to sync with our server for their e-mail, contacts and calendar.  All of those are still working fine.  None of them however, are using Windows Mobile 6 Professional.  One employee is using Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and she can't tell that she is having any problems.

  • Multiple Desktop Icons in Sidebar

    Here's the setup:
I have my user profile setup on a secondary (non-booting) HD named "Macintosh HD". I hooked up and booted off of an old laptop in FW Target mode, who's HD also was named "Macintosh HD." Well this caused all sorts of probs with my profile going missing upon disconnecting the laptop and rebooting. Opened up terminal and looked in /Volumes, there was listed "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD1," the latter being the one that held my profile. So I created a temp user and logged in with that name, deleted the "Macintosh HD" volume, which was basically empty, renamed the "Macintosh HD1" to "Macintosh HD" and pointed my user to the profile. Logged out and back in as myself and all my preferences and what not were back in place.
Here's the only problem that I haven't been able to resolve. When saving/opening files from an application, in the sidebar, there are multiple desktops, 3 to be exact. One has a generic folder icon, the other two have the desktop icon and both actually point to the true desktop. If I open up a Finder window, there is only one desktop icon, it's just a problem in the Open/Save dialog box. How can I get it back to one desktop in the sidebar?

That works in a normal Finder window, but not in the Save/Open dialog within an application.
However, I deleted the sidebar.plist file within the Preferences folder, restarted and all is back to normal.

  • Desktop background problems:  27" iMac/Mission Control

I've just installed a 27" iMac running 10.8 with 16 GB RAM.  I use 4 desktops at a time with different backgrounds in each.  When changing between e.g. desktops 2 and 3, via CTRL-right-arrow, Mission Control annoyingly flashes the desktop 1 background before replacing it with the desktop 3 background.
I have replicated the problem on the other 27" iMac's I have access to, and with a variety of desktop backgrounds (e.g. only the Apple provided ones)
and with various amounts of RAM (8 GB to 16GB).  It is a consistent problem on all 27" iMac's running 10.8 as far as I can see.
Mission Control handled multiple desktop backgrounds flawlessly under my previous set up (iMac 21"/10.7).
Does anyone know how to fix this behavior?

  • Multiple Desktop Windows suddenly not available how do I fix this?

I changed one preference in MIssion Control System Preference - - assigning Dashboard to F5. I then noticed that when I open mission control it shows only Dashboard and 1 application desktop. Also the ways of accessing desktops have been limited to control up arrow and control down arrow. I used to be able to assign control 1, control 2, etc. or control left arrow control right arrow. How do I regain multiple desktops and more ways of accessing them? I'd be most appreciative of any insight or help. Thanks.

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Multiple Desktop Icons

Have any of you seen this before?
    http://oz-bits.com/dl/odd-desktop.png
See the multiple desktops? Seems to get duplicated when I install things sometimes. When I open a normal finder window after an install, I can see duplicate Desktop, Applications, Documents etc, which I drag off the finder window, but when I do a File -> Open in Word or Text Edit (which is what the pic is of) those multiple desktops show up.
Any ideas? I've trashed the finder prefs file, but not sure where else to go. Thanks much.

  • What has happened to multiple desktops?

I'm unable to set up multiple desktops.  Is this feature no longer available- has it been replaced by the displays hooked up?
I look forward to your comments.
    Paul

    Hi
Thanks. I didn't explain myself too clearly. Here's an example of my problem: in mountain lion, I had two displays; one display 1,desktop top 1, I had safari, and on display 2, desktop 1, I had iTunes. Dis.1, desktop 2:Mail, and dis2, desktop 2, iCal.
Now, display 1 changes as it should, but display shows both iCal and iTunes.
    Ideas?

  • Desktop Outlook not sending from alternative email

I'm using Outlook.com. I have used Add a send-and-receive account (POP account) and added my own email address ([email protected]) and I am now able to receive all my emails to the outlook account and also I am able to send emails from the outlook account
as my private email address ([email protected]).
I added this outlook account to the desktop Outlook. It synced and showed me all my folders and I'm still perfectly receiving all emails, the problem is with sending the emails. Using the desktop app I can only send emails from the outlook domain ([email protected])
and it doesn't give me the option to send through my own domain like I can from the website.
What did I do wrong and What should I do to be able to send and receive from my own domain name, yet use Outlook's servers?
    Thank You

    Hi,
You didn't do anything wrong but it's not possible to send as your private email address if you don't add it to Outlook, I'll try to explain.
The "send-and-receive account" feature in Outlook.com works through the 3rd-party's POP protocol, which means Outlook.com still sends/receives emails through the outgoing/incoming mail server of your private email address's
email provider, not through Outlook.com's server.
When setting up the Outlook.com account in Outlook, Outlook only looks for the information needed from the Outlook.com, it doesn't seek for anything from your private email address, since the "send-and-receive account" is an Outlook.com feature,
    Outlook doesn't know about it.
As for receiving emails, Outlook.com has received the emails via the POP protocol and stored these emails on its own server, Outlook just synchronizes the emails to local, not directly from the POP server. This just explains why you can't send
emails but can receive emails from your private email address in Outlook.
In short, in your scenario if you want to send as your private email address, you will need to add it to Outlook.

Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.
