Multiple FDM users processing in one location, period, year, scenario

Can more than one user go through a process flow for the same location, period, year, scenario with separate data files (i.e. different entities for different locations)? How does FDM handle the queue process?
Any best practice suggestions for the process flow?

Actually the answer is yes. I'm not sure why you would want to do this with one exception. Assuming that the files are in the same format, say you get one file that has balance sheet items only and the P&L data comes later. You process the balance sheet file then later you import as an append for the P&L file and process/load that data. I have seen this before. What this does is maintain your audit trail which is very important. Now say all of the bs and p&l come in one file, yet you want to load mutliple entities because each entity has it's own file. The very first file should be imported as a Replace and the remainder of the files should be imported as an append. Once you have imported all of the files you can then click Validate, then Export so that you process them all at once (you do not have to Import/Validate/Export each file) which would save you time. Again, you maintain your audit trail. However, if you import each file as a Replace, then Validate and Export each file seperately then all of your data will still load into the target system, which for example is HFM, but the audit trail only shows the data for the last file you processed. It's always best to have a seperate FDM location for each file (unless it's my first example where the data for a single entity is split).
On another note, I'm not sure what you mean by how does FDM handle the queue process but it can import mutliple files at the exact same time, such as 5 users importing their own files to their own FDM locations. If these 5 users are importing files at about the same time then the last one to import will "win" so to speak.
If the different entities from different files are loaded to different FDM locations then there is no overlapping because FDM keeps the data for each location seperate, by location, period, and category. It's the combination of the 3. If you have a location called Michigan, the Period is Jan - 2009, and the Category is Actual and you load data it won't overwritten by any entity unless someone takes a file and imports it to Michigan/Jan - 2009/Actual. If they take their file and import it into say, Florida/Jan - 2009/Actual instead then the two will always be seperate in the FDM database.

  • Multiple FDM Import Formats for One Location

I want to import trial balance data directly from the Oracle Financials database. I'm creating an import integration script to pull the ledgers directly via a SQL statement. My issue is that I also want to be able to write scripts to modify each individual field on the import, similar to a delimited import script where I can have a script for each dimension. Do you know if it's possible to combine import integration and delimited scripts in a single location? I'm guessing it may be a combination of the Import Format and Integration Options settings on the location, but I'm not sure which one should go where. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not possible. Any adjustments to the data would need to be done within the integration script.

  • Offer Multiple choice for movies playing in one location (Newbie)

    Hi,
I'm definitely a Flash C3 newbie (newbie for all of flash!).
I've been able to figure out how to embed a flash movie in my web
page, but now I need to offer the user a choice of which movie to
play - and then start that movie in one location... this must be
CSS compliant and HTML STRICT... I think I need to address this
through Flash, as I can't figure out how to do it via HTML or
    CSS... Help me, please.

The steps are correct but you've left out the one that adjusts the 2 through 9 movies position as compared to the others.
The first video would hold a position of 0,0 (upper left). When you add the second video you need to adjust its "offset" to position it next to but not overlapping the first. Since your videos are 100X75 you would set the offset of the second track too 100,0 (100 pixels to the right of the original and 0 pixels different in height). The third would be 200,0 offset.
On the second row your first file would be 0,75 (75 pixels below the upper video). The second file on the second row would be offset 100,75 and the third would be 200,75.
The third row would be 0,150 followed by 100,150 and 200,150.
You could add a slight "border" between each video and give it a color by using the bgcolor="your color" (standard html color codes) and adding that space by adjusting the offset plus your border width in pixels. Hollywood Squares style of video.
http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/ one of my older files that uses multiple track video playback of a QuickTime file. The "TV" set is a track and the video that plays "inside" it is another. The still image movies are also separate tracks and QuickTime .mov files can hold up to 99 tracks.

  • 70-Permission denied while importing data in a specific period for one location

    Hi,
I've been working with FDM without any troubles for the past months, however when we try to import data to period (2013-01-01) in a specific location we keep on getting the  70-Permission denied error.
We've checked that the application has it's proper UNC path and the strange thing is that it all works perfectly fine with all the other periods in all location but not this period on this one location, we simply can't import data.
I have deleted the period and created it again but we keep on getting the error. I am about to delete the only location where we get the error and then create it again to see if this solves the problem.
Could anybody give me a clue of what could be the problem?
    Thanks and regards
    Santiago Ruiz

Has the location / period been locked? From memory i think the option to lock / unlock is in the tools menu option, based on location / period / category.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET
USE LPT2 \\computer\printer password /USER:domain\user /PERSISTENT:YES and then tell the driver to print to LPT2 –  James

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Here adding to the words of “Tim”, a forwarder is a DNS server on a network used to forward DNS queries for external DNS names to DNS servers outside of that network. You can also forward queries according to specific domain names using conditional forwarders.
A DNS server on a network is designated as a forwarder by having the other DNS servers in the network forward the queries they cannot resolve locally to that DNS server. You can refer information regarding forwarders and how to configure from beneath link.

  • Multiple users and devices, one account

I have an iPad 1 and iPod Classic.  My wife has an iPhone 4s and an iPod Touch.  Sonny boy also has an iPod Touch.  They are all linked to my apple id and account.  How do I separate the account so that we can each manage our own devices from our single PC?
Though my wife has her own apple ID and account, everything is apparently linked to my account.
How can I set things up so we each manage our own devices, libraries, downloads, and accounts?

Yes, it does.  Method one.  Multiple Windows User account - to create different Windows User account for your wife and you son.  You already have your windows user account, you just need to add two more. - Go to Windows Control Panel, Users and add user.(remember to choose Administrator instead of standard user).
Each of you will log in to your own windows user profile to manage your own iTunes library, account and sync devices.

  • Integrate Multiple BPEL Process into one project

    Hi,
Can anyone help for the following problem?
We created different BPEL process. One bpel process calls the another bpel process internally .
    EX:
    process1,process2 and process3.
    In side process1, I will call process2 and process3.
I want to integrate all 3 process into one.
Can anyone help how can i do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Bharath

Can't you create a new process, copy everything between the main-scopes of the other processes to the new process (skip some of the receives and callbacks so you have 1 receive and 1 callback left), copy all the variables, namespaces, xsl mappings, and try again.
it's more a bit of 'trial and error' and see what's left.
Hope you can use this a bit.
